Much of the recent spam has been manually entered, as far as I can see... I'm guessing it was copy-pasted manually by people.

Which is pathetic lol.

How about getting a firing squad together?

Does anyone here believe that a notification should be given to a user when someone quoted or replied to them? There are sometimes that I post a bug or question in a ROM page and I don't log on for 2 days and then forced to go through 50 pages of replies to find the fix.
Another thing is that thread creators should have the ability to separate the thread. Like between beta1 and beta2 of a ROM the developer should be able to separate the thread then when I want to see the bugs and feedback submitted for a particular rom or mod I can zoom straight to where it all starts. Or at least add a option where we can view replies according to date?

When you click on the little > in front of the thread you'll be taken to the first unread message - which should be right after you've posted your question.

It looks like you've learned a valuable lesson about doing something you don't fully understand. I'm sorry to hear about your troubles, but you may well now have an expensive paperweight. Consider it a life lesson, and learn to read and search and understand fully before you start playing around with your expensive gadgets.

Galaxy series anything is unbrickable. I myself got extremely excited when I "bricked" my captivate. Finally got to use the jig I made. 3 bricks later and I bought a jig from mobiletechvideos's Josh. I have yet to brick my SGSII.

Just read bud. Read some more. And post in the Q & A for your phone after you've read more.

On a side note, using a download mode jig on an unsuspecting person's SGS is pretty amusing. "Downloading ......Do not turn of device"
"Ahhhhhh what do I do!!??"
"Don't turn it off"
"Then what"
"Idk"
"Ahhhhh"

6 months membership isn't a requirement but its very hard to prove you have the right qualities with only a short membership as we review all your history to ascertain what sort of person you are

I really have no idea as the moderator committee make the decisions on that kind of thing, however I guess that if you post history shows you to be a helpful and polite member then I don't see how an extra month will make that much difference.

Like I said though, can't really give you a conclusive answer I'm afraid.

All new mods are fsm's at first and are assigned to a particular forum to see how they cope. We ask you to choose a specific forum (generally people choose device they have or are going to get), but we cannot guarantee you'll get your desired forum as others may choose it.

As for your infraction. Depends when you got it, why you got it and whether or not you have learned from it.

As for the 5 months membership, again, this will depend on your maturity, experience and other criteria we look at.

Everyone is free to apply as do do a thorough search on all candidates and select only the best and most worthy

Good luck

Aliitle background, The thread turned into a train wreck due to thread title, but the OP admitted he could have worded it better, anyways it turned into a flame fest, the mod was not watching it, maybe he was to busy managing 8 forums or what ever....anyways i used the report button that the thread needed cleaning up, the mod did not like that and sent me a nasty gram....blah blah...anyways i stated i would be willing to step up and help, that was when he posted this

Thread Closed, too many childish comments here.

If you think that a Moderator must check every posts of every thread in every assigned forums, well, you must be a fool.

Actually i moderate 8 forums and i check them every time i'm online, that's is many times per day.

Applications for been a Mod are closed right now, you will know when they will be open again by checking announcement but keep in mind that you will NOT moderate A500, in case you will be promoted as a Mod

Two issues, One. a Mod should be respectful
two take the time to understand what was going on and not just close a thread because he/she does not want to spend the proper amount of time resolving the issue...

three , do not discourage users willing to step up...yea i cannot count...:D

Anyways as to when i asked to be a mod, that a couple of months ago, and i only did so cause of the lack of activity from the currently one...i did so cause i do value what XDA and the time spent by the Cajun and other admin/mods here to make this place what it is...

Cajun is a mod right ? or did i just un cover a XDA super duper secret agentman ?:D

I'm not a mod, nor am I on the staff here, but I will tell you that it's not good form to openly criticize the staff on any forum like this. It is much better to take these matters up with either the mod with whom you have the issue, or, if that user is unable to resolve it to your satisfaction, with a Senior mod or admin.

It's all about respect. You have to give it to receive it.

Step666
10th February 2012, 10:15 PM
Two issues, One. a Mod should be respectfulIf it is foolish to believe something, then a person who believes it is by definition a fool.
It's not rude, it's a point of fact - call a spade a spade and all that.

Also, the Mod in question did not direct his comment at any particular person, so it was not a personal insult, merely a general observation.

two take the time to understand what was going on and not just close a thread because he/she does not want to spend the proper amount of time resolving the issue...Well, to become a Mod you must have proven yourself to show good judgement and to generally be fair and reasonable, so if a Mod chooses to close a thread then it's only if they have good reason to do so.
Leaving a thread open if you have good reason to close it would be the wrong thing to do.

Or, put simply, some threads are too far gone to recover.

And you have to remember that Mods are people too - they have lives to live outside of XDA, they cannot and are not expected to spend every moment of their free time on here and as such, so spending potentially hours trying to deal with problems in a thread is simply not practical or expected of a Mod.

three , do not discourage users willing to step up...yea i cannot count...:DThat's a fairly questionable interpretation too IMO.
Arguably he should not have said that any prospective Mod definitely wouldn't be given a particular section - but, equally, when you apply there are no guarantees you'll be given a particular section, so his comment had at least some merit.

As to posting this , some may "think" it is bad form, in some cases yes you are correct, but when it gets little response from other channels, then posting it pubic-ally is the correct way when a thread like this exists... (From the Users to the Mods & Admins)

I have seen many issues get addressed by this doing this if done in a respectful manner. Will it rub some the wrong way ? yep i am sure it will, but those that can see it for what it is will work to make the needed improvements . BTW just reiterate, i only asked to help out, i have been a mod and a admin on several forums so I git what it takes, but i also know when to spot that to much of a work load is being placed on Mod when you see responses like the above...

If you did request help already for that issue, then my suggestion is simply to state that when you request for action on the matter. The main problem that I would take with the post above is just that you seemed to be using it as an example to someone else. Matters like that are best kept private. If you don't get any action taken on your issue, then posting it here would be the logical next step, but you still need to make sure it stays in context. We can't take things like this personally and have this place turn into a grudge match. :)

Obviously, this is just my opinion and suggestion. You've been a very helpful user for as long as I've known you. This post caught me off guard and a bit by surprise that you would even post it at all in this manner.

All I'm going to say here is that whenever I see comments such as the ones in that thread about "mods needing to patrol more" and "mods please close this" I get annoyed.

AF was exactly right with what he said about not being able to read every thread in a forum, especially when you have seven others to moderate which are probably much busier.
This does not equate to the mods being overworked, it's simply down to people wasting their time by posting something like the comments above and not using the report function.

That thread should have been closed at post one because this is a resource to resolve any issues you may have with a device not to complain about them.

Tbh, I see nothing wrong with his post.
I can see how it may have been misconstrued as slightly blunt or insulting but I am positive it was not intended that way.

Obviously if you wish to raise concerns about a moderator then any senior mod or member of the mod committee will be more than happy to listen.

As for comments mentioned previously, it is impossible for mods to see everything. This is why we also rely on the report button. If you see something wrong or it breaches forum rules, report it.

Also, if you see anyone, including a mod behaving out of line, again, report it.

Mods do have lives outside of XDA, so if you PM a mod and they don't respond it may be that they are sleeping or out. Allow 24hrs due to timezone differences......... and remember, my PM box is always open

my little sister ended up getting a lenovo ideapad for christmas, (i had no input) but was looking into the dev for it on xda, and it has some stuff in the lenovo THINKpad section (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1432).

the think pad section seems to be a mix of the thinkpad / ideapad A1 / ideapad K1.

I suggest re-naming the forum to reflect this, as none of the 3 devices alone have enough to warrant their own forum, but together they do. Properly labeling the forum to reflect this may generate some additional traffic/development on the other 2 devices.

The only problem I foresee with that is the Thinkpad is completely different from the other two. The Ideapads are just different in their pricing. Specs for them are similar. The Ideapads should then have their own separate forum.

i know they are different lines of product and would take different dev, but none of the 3 devices have enough activity to warrant their own forum, re-naming to " Lenovo IdeaPad/ThinkPad Tablets" would just be to consolidate and organize it properly as, it has naturally formed this way already. just needs to be labeled what it is.

I have been a member of XDA for nearly five years, and spend a decent amount of time on XDA, and from time to time, I come across activity that violates XDA rules. Albiet I'm not a MOD, but am I allowed to politely post a reminder of a rule infraction on that thread? (I also use the report button). To my understanding, (correct me if I'm wrong), but in the XDA rules thread, it is stated that guidance by other members is encouraged.

My goal on XDA is to become a MOD, because I geuinely enjoy guiding and helping other members. I recently went through a very stressful time in my personal life, which affected my attitude, which ultimately led to a 2 week ban. That ban was an eye opener for me, and have since made an "attitude adjustment" and will now conduct myself apprpriately. I even took the time to post a formal apology thread, explaining myself, and taking full responsibility for my actions.

Hello

This is my first post in xda.
I have been a lurker in the galaxy ace section for a while.

Iam neither a developer nor even a scripter, iam just a consumer of the work which other developers are large hearted enough to share in these forums.

Obviously iam greatly thankful to them, so its especially painful for me to see the malicious and intentional throttling of latest ROM release threads by unscruplous individuals regularly occuring in Galaxy ace section.

The most common tactic is to abuse the rating system of threads to quickly down rate a newly released ROM. Such one star ratings without any greviance/justification posts in a newly started ROM thread (and which has barely progressed 2-3 pages) is becoming the norm rather than an exeption in the galaxy ace section.

This misuse of rating system has the twin effect of immediately discouraging the developers who have started these threads and preventing the adoption of the new ROM by consumer's like me by planting seeds of doubt regarding its quality (even if the actual quality of the ROM (performance and stability) may be good or even exeptional). The effect being the developers stop uploading newer iterations and drop the thread and the ROM dies a slow and painful death.

I donot want to implore to the individuals who are indulging in these acts to desist while considering the larger interest of keeping the development of a lowend device like ace to unhampered. Obviously they are either too childish or too jealous or too snobbish to care about others.

Thus the decison should come from Admins to stop this menace. Options to consider would be to disable rating system for newly started threads in development section (may be upto a week?- to let the thread mature) and/or revoke rating priviledges from all but the highly thanked individuals.
Because the best judge of a ROM cannot be anyone else but a developer.

thanks for reading.

Interesting idea. If I'm honest I ignore the votes on threads and a lot of the time peoples criticisms. I prefer to test and make my own judgement tbh. But maybe that just me

As for your idea, another one may be to restrict voting to senior members and developers only

I have noted several threads in Development sections rated one-star simply because some dipshit calls out the Developer for 'kanging' just because they haven't posted their github or whatever. They get a few knuckles on-side in-thread, and all of a sudden a good first effort gets ridiculed and locked because the thread is full of junk.

That said, there have also been a couple of threads where the call-out has actually been legit and just handled in a ridiculous way (i.e the Development was copied and no credit given where due, or implied that it was 'new').

I personally only ever use the rating system to give five-stars to ROMs that I've had great experiences with. By-and-large they're already five stars, but occasionally you stumble across a gem.

I'm not sure limiting the rating system to senior members and staff would be too effective, as it's more-often-than-not a Senior member that starts a witchhunt anyway :)

hi,

i'm finding the "troll, psycho & useless drivel" count in the forums i frequent to be much too high for my own, personal tastes. and, of late, rising quickly!

the nice thing about forum software is, different strokes for different folks -- the 'add user to ignore list' is an effective solution.

even when ignored, though, there's message trace in our message view -- simply a topic/header, and a notice that 'This message is hidden because XXXXX is on your ignore list. '

in some page views, i'm ending up with nothing BUT these messages.

is it possible to completely eliminate all display trace for ignored users? i.e., ideally, i'd like to not see anything related to their messages -- even the minimal header ID'ing that message as ignored.

another nice-to-have would be also eliminate from view any/all messages that even make mention of the ignored user's handle (e.g., in a quote, a return rant, etc).

in this way, it'd allow each of us to be much more effective at self-policing our own experience/view, without (immediately) pestering a moderator.

having poked around in config and not (yet) having found these options, this all's just my $0.02 ...

thanks

re: trolls, possible. in my experience, not likely. of course, it should be your choice to manage your experience with your own interests in mind.

like i said, "this" is "just my $0.02". in any case, i'd like the choice to be manage how, and with whom, i experience XDA. the current state of affairs is making it a PITA to navigate around "their" tracks.

my request is simply for the tools to let it be my choice, rather than having the system decide it for me.

then i can choose specifically if, when and why each ignore is done.

if i really want to have a look-see, i could certainly temporarily unignore -- re-exposing those messages -- and then act accordingly.

it's exactly the same way i manage similarly 'colorful' personalities on #irc; i certainly wouldn't accept the irc client determining whom i do/don't hear from -- just asking for the same here.

I've noticed over the years here on XDA, that the term "troll" gets thrown around a lot. From what I understand, the definition of a troll, is someone who deliberately provolks, or disrupts the natural flow of a topic or conversation. More times than not, I've seen people labeled a troll for offering their point of view on a particular topic. I've also seen people labeled a troll for posting in multiple threads, in an appropriate manner. I just saw where a member said "sometimes trolls have the answer you are looking for." If somebody has something useful to offer, why are they being referred to as a troll? If engaging in a topic and sharing a point of view earns somebody the troll status, technically, aren't we all trolling?

This just sounds like madness to me...

(Obviously this does not include the one's who go around XDA being obnoxious and rude.)

how is that at all relevant to my request? who, other than you, cares -- or should have anything to say about it -- if you think i'm a troll, or a pest, or annoying? it's your opinion, and your choice.

the very POINT of my request is that what YOU think, what YOU see, and with whom YOU want to communicate should be up to you.

i'm not suggesting for one moment that my visibility settings and communication choice should be foisted on you. or anyone else.

in fact, i'm requesting exactly the opposite -- that i get to make my settings and choices on my system. period.

If you want to control who you communicate with that specifically, PM people.

This is a forum. You are bound to deal with "trolls" or in another term, annoying users. I have yet to use my ignore list, because all it will do is complicate things. If the amount of trolling is so bad, that you can't read anything useful, start reporting people instead if ignoring them.

If all else fails, take a look at yourself. If it is stressing you, log out for a while.

??

If I find your drivel useless to me, it's my choice if I simply wish to ignore you. You simply don't get a say in the matter. And vice versa.

Like I said in my OP, that's what the ignore button is for.

All I've asked for is a bit more UI flexibility, to remove the last dregs of cruft from my 'view'.

Really, I'm neither here for, nor interested in, a debate about with whom, and how, I should communicate.

Did you bother to read the entire post? This wasn't even directed at you. It was an observation about some people unfairly being labeled as trolls.

The ignore feature works. If you happen to notice a partial comment in the header of your email, by the person you have ignored, the best way to avoid that is to unsubscribe from that particular thread. By doing so, you will no longer receive emails when that thread has been updated. If for some reason, you want to be a part of that thread, you can easily visit that thread without being subscribed to it. To put it simply, you do have control of what you want to see or not see.

Essentially what you are asking for is an adjustment to the vb software, if you are going to ignore someone then it only makes sense that the option to view those ignored posts is there.

Tbh I don't see this being possible.

Likewise, none of us are here to carry on and debate with you, over an issue that could be remedied in less than one minute. You're getting an attitude with everybody over nothing. The problem is not with the UI, but rather your lack of taking a couple of simple steps to put an end to the problem. Or, you could just ignore the header.

I don't get it, isn't what you're asking for already given to you in the form of the 'ignore' button?

Having the option to read what people you've ignored have said, without actually being 'forced' to see it first-time-around, can be incredibly useful :)

The free flow of information here is why many of us are here, the few problems are easily ignored or dealt with appropriately. As others have said, I've yet to use the ignore button, I quickly learned to glaze my eyes over and move on when I saw garbage I did't care for - or hit the report button and let us deal with it. Just move on with it and don't stress the small stuff - because in the end, it's pretty much all small stuff.

Exactly. I'm kinda wondering how the member deals in real life. Completely stopping from going to a coffee shop because he found his experience in line with a fellow patron less than desirable? Moves on to a new place because he is reminded of a bad experience? Anyways. Connexion has written a thread on how to tailor your browsing experience here to your liking. Maybe that can help you in your quest to sanitize your forum lurking.

If it's a @VB issue, and as such not possible, fair enough. Thanks for actually reading my suggestion and addressing it simply enough.

Actually, Old English for Commissioner would be the Modern English equivalent of "chief," or a town magistrate. The old English word for it is "burhgeréfa."

I love that show. Sorry for the "schooling" post. Most people think that Old English is just what happens when you put an "e" at the end of old. It's actually a completely different language. I find it really fascinating to study. Since I'm kind of a grammar whore, I often correct things like that without really thinking. Sorry. Lol

Don't be sorry bud. I was referring to the whole "aire" part of the word. I swear, my version of Chrome came with the British or Australian dictionary sometimes.

Example: theater, is corrected to theatre. And other oddities like that.

LMAO. Being a theatre major, that's how I usually spell it. It ticks me off when my browser or Word document tries to tell me otherwise by putting those passive-aggressive red squiggles underneath it.

In any case, I usually refer to "theatre" as performing arts. "Theater" is what I would call the movie theater or the cinema. I rarely go to the movies, so that generally isn't something I say. Hollywood has been doing nothing but ruining my childhood lately.

So you went to school with my dad. Raised on a bean farm in New Mexico. He really did walk to school. 20 some odd miles. Mostly hitched a ride. Graduated in a class of 24. His mom saved bread bags all yr to put over his socks so the snow wouldn't wet his feet. Played every sport at school so he could take showers at school. Had a 14 ft well dug by hand behind the house for water. He truly is one of those big stick walking tall men.

Wow. Every post on that site under the "Mobile Applications" heading is pulled directly from XDA. The only difference is that the other site appends "in Pakistan" to the end of each title.

a weird concern i have come up with browsing different device forums...seems in different forums they have different ideas and rules on what "paid apps" and "breaking copyright" is...

in the captivate area we have created, posted, shared and packaged into roms, themed swype versions forever.
in the galaxy nexus forums, they speak of themed swype like mythical unicorns, and noobs awe at screenshots of it... until a mod shuts-down the thread for a member asking to be PM'd a themed swype.
see thread.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1502695&page=2
jayharper08 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=772094)>
No one needs to be pm'ing anyone an .apk of a paid app.http://media.xda-developers.com/images/VA_XDA/buttons/threadclosed.gifSwype is FREE. goto http://beta.swype.com and sign-up and download for free. there is NO way to pay for swype if you wanted to.

we also at xda support theming and apps that automate theming without source compiling all the time.
so i would think that themed swype would/should be allowed here at xda.

am i right?

The only time anything like that has happened in the Samsung Epic 4G section was when someone posted the Nexus S 4G/Sprint swype and Swype requested it be taken down till it was publicly available.

But jayharper is a mod in our section and hasn't closed our themed swype beta thread

just looked in the lenovo thinkpad section and it is filled with IDEApad K1 (and few A1) dev/threads/q's

there is more idea pad stuff than thinkpad.
suggest renaming forum to match/ include all 3 (19 dev threads for all 3 devices, 7 are for k1, 4 are irrelevant)
found some A1 dev in "android general" too that could use a home.

yes,, thats how it works....standalone swype apk,s are not allowed.

But build into a Rom for a device shipped with it is fine.

Also the Swype beta is free... sure... but it still needs to fill in a form to use it.
So serving the beta as a free stand alone apk is also not allowed for that reason.

also this:
Off-site downloads are permitted if the site is non-commercial and does not require registration. :p:confused::cool::eek:
so even linking to the beta bla bla .......

I think this belongs in Q&A. But you might have better luck getting help, if you provide more information.

-what was the last thing your friend did before the bootloop occured?

Your friend can try using a stock PG58img.zip file by placing it on the root of the sd card and booting into the stock bootloader by removing the battery for a few seconds. Replace the battery, press and hold down the power button and volume down keys. HTC's stock recovery should automatically flash that stock img.zip rom. In order for this to work, the file MUST be named PG58IMG.zip. That should restore the phone back to stock.

You can go to this thread for more info.

As I know, that animated images might cause extra server load, but what if we can use external hosting for animated avatar, as currently I ma using it on my signature from my Dropbox account, and we can do it without increasing any server load. I am quite sure, that there might be some plugins already available for the same.

I think most of us agree that animated avatars are a bit annoying mostly. Yours seems fine to me, but I find a lot of people take it overboard. Most of the animated avatars I see on other forums I visit become eyesores, so it ends up forcing me to hide all avatars, since there is no filter for it. I rather like the static ones here.

External hosting might reduce server load, but it also makes policing the images more difficult. Animated boobies are a no-no here. (xxxda-developers.com) :D

Basically the page translates news from the portal into chinese and posts it.There are not much people who are a fan of this page yet because I'm afraid that XDA won't allow this page to exist, so I haven't started any publicizing of the page yet.
Is this ok?

Does there exist a way to show the relative or absolute activity level of a devices forum, or sub forum?

Some of us technical people are motivated in our buying decisions by how much community support for a device exists. Some of our devices are orphans, while others that are years old seem to have very vibrant communities.

This post is the product of some discussions with Developers and fans in IRC.

Thanks

Oh hai thar LargePrime :)

I agree with this..I know we *should* buy our phones for their usefulness, then do our hobbies later, but as he said, I'm afraid when I upgrade, the development won't ever catch on. I'm thinking of devices like the Kyocera Echo, Samsung Stratosphere, which in their own rights, are good devices.

Heck, I'll probably get whatever mkasick gets anyways, why am I worrying.

There can be many reasons for a thread being closed and tbh I think that this is a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why it was closed.
The specifics are not important.

Rest assured if a thread is closed to something having the potential to damage your device you will be notified, if not. You probably do not need to know ;)

I asked with warm words, got kinda arrogant answer, but can live with it...

Sorry, I didn't intend for the response to sound arrogant.

My point was simply that we generally do not explain the specifics of why a thread is closed. This often leads to people creating more threads to discuss the issue which can lead to arguing and more drama that is completely unnecessary.

Hope that answers your question. :)

You need to make your request here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416406).

Well, they already have a forum for the Touch Diamond. They just need an Android sub-forum added to give their devs a place to do business. The voting thread is for devices with no home. I think they're sharing development from the Rhodium at the moment.

Certainly when a section reaches critical mass, he's the person who sorts out adding the Q&A sub-section.

But of you've already PMed your FSM, I would just leave it at at that - they'll pass the request on for you, so there's no need to bombard sv with PMs.

Each member of the XDA Moderator Committee provides their time and effort without compensation while managing personal commitments such as work and family life. Additionally, we receive a significant number of applications and it takes time to fully review each applicant to ensure that they will fit well within the XDA culture.

Moderating a forum such as XDA requires folks who are able to see past their opinions and prejudices so as to effect fair and unbiased moderation as XDA members live in various parts of the world, have different customs/cultures ... what is considered acceptable in one culture isn't always acceptable in another.

Once selections are made, successful applicants will receive a notification via PM.

Time Zones and busy schedules are usually the culprits. That said, I've posted a notice in the Portal Admin mailbox with a link to your post above:

Did anyone see my post and check it out? Or is this not the right place to post?Really odd co-incidence... I just went to check this out and, on the Chinese page he is referring to, my name is in the 5th post down quoting a post of mine. unfortunately the english to chinese to english has mangled the content and cant recognize what it is saying i said, if anything a post from almost a year ago..

the further co-incidence is the user UAL4588 has my new user guide linked in his sig..

such a small world. :)

Please re-consider your 10 post newbie policy. I maybe a newbie to this forum, but I've been in the development game a long time, and I've got stuff to contribute, but can't. There are questions in developer forums that I can answer, and there are bugs I'd like to post, but I can't. I have not interest in posting to the general forums - I've got nothing to say there.

What's more, the policy is not actually serving its purpose. The quality of posts in the developer forums are terrible. People asking the same questions without even reading the OP which contains the answers, and bug reports (like "my thingamajig is broken. when are you gonna fix it") that are pretty much useless.

So Devs. Please reconsider.

if you have a bug, send a PM to the dev.
if you have a question, post it in questions and answers, if your device forum doesnt have Q&A, then sorry you are going to have to use general.

if you have an answer for something in dev forum, #1 there shouldnt be questions in dev, #2 let the dev of the project handle it.

10 posts isnt that hard, and can be done in an hour. sorry it is NOT CHANGING.
in our oppinion it is too low.

If you are experienced and want to contribute, then help out the people posting problems in the General and Q&A fora. You'll get your ten posts in no time and build your reputation around here.

As much as you think the rule isn't serving its purpose, you are wrong. Things were WAY worse before this rule. It's not going away.

To achieve ten posts is easy and takes a small amount of time. All we ask is you help a few people before we grant you access. Is that such a bad thing?

I already posted this somewhere (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22883498#post22883498) else but I was suggested to post it here.

----

I find that looking though android roms is often a pain with this site I think there can be a lot of improvements to certain forms (for software, rom development etc) that will enable users to see content easier and find what they want.

1) Posts to a thread does not bump it. This will let you see the newest roms on top and stop necroposts

2) Devs can update their post (bump it) when they release a new version

3) Enable better filters that will sort out specific roms / versions. This will let you just find roms of one version number (ex 2.3.6 / 4.0.3 / JVS)

4) Allow better sorting, You can make sort filters with most views, most replies, highest voted, highest weighted voted, last posted date ...etc

It would be better if devs simply complied with the general naming convention and posted the last update dates in the title.

We that would be needed for this change but the other ideas I have suggested would make it much easier in other ways as well.

Bumping threads is important to a lot of people. If you just want to find out when the ROM changes, make sure the ROM thread uses a last modified date in the title, then subscribe to it. Check your UserCP every so often to find out if it's been updated. The bump thing is here to stay.

Ok, I know I mostly answer questions here, but I have a request now.

Please do something about Off Topic post counting. Either Off Topic posts should not count towards your total, or it should be restricted with the dev forums to prevent those with less than ten posts from spamming their to get their count up. Now that I think about it, that should be easier to implement than the not counting at all thing.

searching can be very useful.

in the android section look for the " Search this forum " button, then search for:
[ROM] #yourdevice# #anythingelseimportant#

or the advanced search button...http://media.xda-developers.com/images/gear_advanced.png

or what device are you on? do you have a specific device forum?

might want to fill in your signature with some device information so others dont have to ask you what you have and what youre running.

You have a nice, clear screenshot. It's a PNG.
You upload it as an attachment to a post and suddenly it's a JPG, it's bigger and it looks worse.
Can you not configure it to leave PNG's alone?

Can you not configure it to leave PNG's alone?i use dropbox to host all my images on forums, that way they show online exactly as they exist on your pc. and if you make a change to them on your pc they update online in the forum AUTOMATICALLY as soon as you click save on your pc in the image editor.

optional...(use link in my signature to sign up)

after loggin in website, click your user name and download dropbox...
install dropbox on your PC
in the new created " Dropbox " folder use the " Public " folder for online hosting.
create a folder in public called " images " for organization.
any file you put within Public, you can.. right click > Dropbox > Copy Public link.. (will copy a http address for that file to your system Clipboard)
in any post on xda or other forums you can paste that web address for the image.
on xda it is the http://media.xda-developers.com/images/editor/insertimage.gif button, then paste (ctrl+V)...

now your image is in your post exactly as it exists on your pc

i have been hosting most of my images and downloads myself from dropbox on xda. i have hundreds of images in my public/images folder, and quite a few in public/files folder. After time the public folder gets full of things you host here and there, thats why i recommend making the separate folder for images now... because if you move them later the links break!!!
