Hi all
A few of us Moderators have been getting PM's that in my case have not been dealt with due to the fact I am not always on the board.
All of us do this for free and in our spare time, and over time we move on, get new toys, or even go back to a real life without a keyboard under our fingers.
Please try to understand that some of us are Bias (I admit to it I have a BA and am not intrested in many of the other sections).
Thus I for one do not read all posts and all sections, I feel this is true for others, like I said I feel this.
We all however try to check the trash and keep the news clean.
For this reason we need a form of communication that is not based on a person but directed to a group and in this case its the Moderators and Admins.
It is with that motivation in mind that I have opened this thread and made it sticky in the hope that you are able to post issues that you think that at least one of us should deal with.
Please note that this board does not tolerate cracks, serials, pirated versions or the posting of software that should have been aquired by legal means and we will remove (delete) them when found. Please help us keep this site clean by posting links of that sort in this tread as well as telling us if you have found anything on the ftp site.
Please use this thread, use and edit the wiki and remember this board would not be as great as it is without YOU.
Thanks for your support.

Thanks MDAIIIUser.
And remember, mods aren't Gods, despite us all being flaxen hair'd Adoni.
We can't create new Forums, change the Welcome page or Index page, or supply you with new flags or avatars. But ask anyway, it helps us put pressure on the Admis, who are the true Smooth Operators of this board.

Think that is correct that is the main page, the forum is a sub element which you can get to from the main page. If you just want the forum then bookmark it.
Link above worked for me

Let me first thank you for moving to a much better forum application than phpBB.
I hope one day we can have access to a mobile friendly theme from owr phone. If implemented, I would also like to request that the theme option be stored in cookies rather in the database so we wouldn't have to enter User CP and change the theme every time we log in from our mobile or desktop.

Just wondering, with the recent spamfest that seems to be taking place is there any pattern developing in the IPs used that would allow an IP ban to be placed? or are they using anon proxies? I know from my own experience as an admin on another forum they can be a pain, but they really seem to be targetting this place.... A friend of mine is a developer for vb and if there is anything that could be of use I can ask him if he would be able to create a plugin to help you block it.
In many ways this is one of the best sites I have seen (apart from the one I am an admin on of course, we all take pride in the sites we run heh) and I would like to assist in any way to stop any of the users being taken in by spammers like that. (yes, I know most of the users here are smart enough not to fall for it lol) Certainly it's one of the most informative on the HTC devices.

Would it be possible to sticky/provide links to what are probably obvious things but that I have not been able to find using search, and I think would maybe help stop newbies (such as myself) from posting obvious questions all the time.
For example my main problem is that I don't know how to change command line options/parameters/registry but it is mentioned in nearly every thread (and the wiki) that I visit, but no instruction how to do so.
Yes, I have Total Commander but if I simply type in whatever a thread says to, nothing happens and TC has no instructions.
Thanks

I recall seeing in some other forums the ability to Sticky posts (ie a post that would appear at the top of every page in a thread).
This may be a useful feature for the forum, especially in ROM threads where questions are often repeated.

the forum has the option to make certain posts sticky which will leave them at the top.
However the option to make posts sticky is only available to moderators and admins.
If there is a certain post you feel should be sticky please let the moderators or admins know by posting a motivation and thread link in this thread.

I just noticed that a sticky post may be useful in ROM threads, especially the AKU3.3 v2 thread right now. While one may argue that noobs shouldn't be babied, having a post saying "Read the first post and the wiki for a solution prior to posting your problem. If your rom doesn't change, your phone is NOT CID UNLOCKED. Sim unlocking is DIFFERENT from CID unlocking." or something along those lines may be helpful.
I just often see people getting flamed for posting such questions.
I'm not saying flamers are at fault, I personally work as a tech and I've seen some pretty dull people and got really frustrated myself. This won't stop noobs from posting such problems but it will hopefully reduce the number.

rom collector
15th March 2007, 11:39 AM
Hello mods and admin.
Would i be allowed to start a thread with the aim of collecting roms?
For example start a list of roms that are available for my device and ask all to contribute. My aim would be to add the ones that people suggest to my personal collection with no hint of intent to distribute. I would also aim to seek these roms out myself, without encouraging others to divulge where they obtained them from. My intentions are only to collect them for myself.
Im aware that the wiki lists alot of roms but im not really keen on collecting carrier roms if you know what i mean.
I did search the forum for definitve answers as to whether this would be allowed and i found it to be a grey area. My next move was to approach mods here and ask whether making this list would be acceptable. I hope you appreciate me approaching you here and asking permission instead of just going ahead and posting.
Thanks for reading this long request and i am sorry about the length of the post but i wanted to make it as informative as possible.

Little request...
Jwright has started to digitally sign his works for authentication purposes (on Universal forum)... just thinking that as we may be loosing our ftp section, maybe it would be a good idea for all developers to do this to save any dodgy cooked ROMs found on torrents/p2p flooding the net? Purely a little precaution that seems to make sense.
Thanks for your time :)

have a rule against posting rom kitchen roms. normally its not a problem, but there are soo many of them at (for universal at least) and they are all the same save for minor registry tweaks and/or oem packages.
Everything in these roms can be done with cabs or a cooked extrom as they all use one rom as a base.

Hi Guys,
I've added:
Serbia - Telenor
Serbia - Vip (not sure if the image is right, please let me know)
Moldova - Orange
Also Serbia - Telekom was requested, but there is an image for Telekom already, if it needs updating could someone supply me with the right image?
I can't find a logo for Hungary - Westel if anyone can supply me with that, that would be great.

MTS (Russia) changed its logo quite a while ago... FYI, it's almost country-wide, I think "Moscow" is useless.
And why leave others behind? "KB Impuls Beeline" should be "Beeline" with the new logo, "North West GSM" is no longer a brand name either, you can safely change it to "MegaFon". Logos for both are attached.
Maybe one should also divide all them by regions, not by brands? I feel that's too much detail, but if so, I'm willing to provide the info.

I would love to get some real good XDA-Developers into the chat room on the IRC server I use a lot so maybe we could add the chat room to this site as a direct web chat room. I have definetly see alot of problems resolved when you have the ability to talk to the same people in chat that you do on the forums. Talking in realtime is way better than through the forums.
All moderators will get channel access! (Ops/+o)
The server is: irc.icq.net
The chatroom is: #XDA-Developers
irc://irc.icq.net/XDA-Developers <=- Direct Link if you have an IRC client installed that supports chat links.
Maybe if we can get enough people to use it, and like it, we can get it added to this site as an embedded irc page to the channel.

This thread:

Has basically become tech support and advertising for a commercial product. There was some controversy about FingerFriendlyFriends in a thread in the Development and Hacking forum and that one was closed with a warning about advertising commercial products.
Can you please do the same with this thread?
Bellfazar
15th December 2007, 06:08 PM
My concern was simply because there was a thread in Development and Hacking that was closed because whomever closed it considered it to be advertising his product.
I think it wouldn't be such a big deal if the software was not initially tested by the community and I do think it makes the developer a bit of an opportunist, but for me at least the issue at hand is both consistency and community support.
Like I said, the previous thread was closed so that's a consistency issue. And as far as community support, there are quite a number of people both in the thread I reported as well as the previous one that felt slighted at the developer's use of the community as a group of testers for a commercial product that in the end, the community doesn't see any reward from.
I'm kind of ambivalent on the subject because I recognize the difficulty that WM developers have and I understand that compensation for a lot of work should be in order, but I think taking advantage of the goodwill of the community might be going a bit overboard. Perhaps if the developer offered an XDA-Dev discount or something then it might not feel like such a slap in the face.
Anyway, it's up to you, I'm simply presenting my point of view on the issue.

This device seems to be the burner for 2008, so i think many users will get one.
Already many people here are already using the great plugin from LG, and it seems to have more good stuff inside for xda-devs.
Would be great if we get new xda-forum to see cooked KS20-ROMs and more.

Hi! Nice forum, so many knowledge, but...
Can You improve search engine? If I search for "only system" and want to find something like "if you want to install only system on your..." i will get results with 1000 threads with "only" and another 2000 with "system".
I tryed many syntax tricks like "+only +system" , " 'only system' " , "only and system" etc.
Or, as a solution can You make some help in search page with corect syntax.
So many repeated questions will be reduced, and this will bring much more eficiency to user.
There is a lot of free forum engines on Internet with integrated search, optimized for saving space and server resources.
Thank You.

Just to expand on your thoughts -- is it possible to make Search a prominent part of the page -- really stand out -- large box? Then maybe users would use it before they start new thread where there already are many threads with the same info. Just a thought.

Hey guys,
Great forum, just spent the whole weekend reading threads about a ppc purchase I consider right now. Anyways, bet a lot of question are still to come but first a quick note - your carrier database is quite obsolete at least regarding Bulgarian providers. As for now we have three mobile operators - M-Tel (http://www.mtel.bg/checkpoint.php?lang=en) (former MobilTel AD and Vodafone partner), GLOBUL (http://www.globul.bg/eng/) (a Cosmote Group member and i-mode provider) and vivatel (http://www.vivatel.bg/en/index.php) (the Bulgarian Telecomunication Company mobile operator).

Some differences I've noticed with the new post email notification here as opposed to other forums. Are they by design, or am I missing a config option?
1 - The links in the emails I receive always end in "&goto=newpost". This always directs me to the newest post in the thread instead of to the first post I haven't seen. I need to scroll backwards to find the post I left off at.
2 - In this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362566)it seems like I receive a notification email for "almost" every new post posted. Is there a way to get only one until I revisit the thread? The thread is pretty active, could it be due to a lagging notificator?
Thanks guys, and please let me know if I should have posted this somewhere else...

I'm sorry if this has been covered before; I did search quite a bit for it in this forum. I would like to see something different from the Number of Posts in each message box: could you make it something like "Post Number 28 of 32," or something like that? Every time a user adds a new post, the Number of Posts on all of his/her messages changes to reflect it. So when I read a post from a user who has 800 posts, I automatically add validity to what turns out to be their 4th post. I assume they have the full experience of their 800 posts in each of their posts (unless I look at the date of the post vs. the date they joined, but even that can be deceiving.)

Hey ya'll -- i have a site feature request -- I think it'd be GREAT for each thread to have it's own wiki in (for example) the 2nd post, so that important information in the thread (some of which are PAGES AND PAGES....AND PAGES) can be easily found in the first few posts (that everyone can edit), as opposed to trying to find stuff by reading every. single. post.
an example of what i mean can be found in the posts at fatwallet (called "quick summary", http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/828440/ for example), or the "wikipost" over at slickdeals (example, http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=425&t=811586 )

Well, I did create a poll for a "Sticky Rollup Thread" - Link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403684)- in Elf\Elf upgrading etc. (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=374)
If the other members accept it, it would be nice if a moderator makes it happen:)
I was also wondering if any moderator has the elf forum under his/her attention-"responsibility"? (If not I have in mind some guys(elf-users) who are already dedicated to helping people&xda "work" together without problems)
If you look at "Elf upgrading etc." subforum you'll notice that it has become (90%) "Elf bricking etc. (http://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk145/k0k0tas/sad.jpg)" ! First of all they don't read and search, then they decide to mess with their phones and
finally they open a new thread for every dead device in this planet while there is a thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=379318) about that issue! A lot of junk-threads over there! Please have a look at this!
Thanks in advance whatever you decide to do!

Just an idea, if it is possible to add thanks button after every post (or first post) it will save a lot of space from the thanks posts which take a large chunk of this site.
the other think which can be usefull is the ability for the regular user to delete hes own posts (usefull when doublepost)

Any chance one of you Mods want to make a Roll up sticky for some of the threads in the General Forum, I only get 3 non sticky posts when I first load the screen without scrolling? Stuff like V's Naked Chicks and the Rules should stay as stickies but some I'm sure can be rolled up.

Two suggestions.
First off there has been a fair amount of stress generated by persons with varying opinions as to the appropriateness of posting suggestions and/or requests in the Hacking and Development forum. While the outward and open expression of new ideas and needs on the part of users is indeed critical to the development process this could be better handled and more efficiently managed if provided with it's own venue. Perhaps this venue could be installed as a sub-forum to the Hacking and Development forum... to make sure newer users are more likely to notice it and also to acknowledge the relation between the two.
My second suggestion concerns themes and skins. In my mind these pose an even greater source of confusion and distraction than the previously mentioned topic. These threads are posted very frequently, often a new thread for each persons newest skin for an individual application. These are not related, directly, to the development of the applications for which they are intended nor do they really constitute "Hacks". They are generally "eye candy" and as such I feel that these too would be better managed and more easily navigated if provided with their own space.
I appreciate that the general topic of XDAs and all that is related is very expansive and could easily lead to such a multitude of categories that would result in a site as difficult to navigate as a forum with no categorization. However, it seems obvious that these two specific cases have proven they generate enough interest to merit their own homes and that such a division would also prove to help the moderators manage the forum content more efficiently... everyone likes more free time, right?
Thanks!

Hi Everybody,
First of all my apologies for not dropping in in this thread lately, there have been a lot of personal and work issues that have prevented me from posting here.
Provider flags:
I've added:
Lebanon - MTC Touch
Lebanon - Alfa
UK - Virgin Mobile
Brazil - Tim
Forums:
I saw requests for the HTC touch pro (raphael) and the ipaq 600
The raphael already has it's own forum. I have no issues with adding a forum for the ipaq 600 provided it's an HTC made phone, if anyone can provide me with any "proof" of that.
I know the proof thing might sound silly but we receive loads of request for forums for supposedly htc made phones which turn out not to be..
Text color picker issue & user profile fields issue:
The issues are in our customized themes, i'm working really hard creating a new customized theme that is up to vbulletins standards and will last us for a long time to come but unfortunately it takes a lot of time which I don't always have/get I hope you can be patient a little bit longer...
Best regards,

Please can we have a distinctly seperate section under the Athena form for the x7510 device?
In fact, to save devices being bricked it maight be a good idea to have seperate x7500, a x7501 and x7510 sections.

That is EXACTLY my point! With such big hardware differences, why ISN'T there a seperate section?

16th October 2008, 04:41 PM
This board is powered by vBulletin, which is extremely easy to use, and makes setting up a sub-section something that can be done in a minute or so.
There are a number of members here who followed advice they thought also applied to their devices, which resulted in several bricked devices. This is because the advice and tools, provided in good faith by some excellent members, were meant for devices with substantially different hardware.
There are many members that have asked for a specific x7510 sub-section under the Athena forum, so owners of these devices can have device-specific advice and tools. See the posts here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409190
There are members here that criticise HTC as HTC NEVER responds to questions or suggestions, and the company is actually not helpful at all.
The Admins on this board are aware of the hardware differences between the x7500, x7501 and x7510, yet refuse to comment on requests for a seperate section, and refuse to create a seperate section.
Perhaps they learnt how to be helpful from HTC?

Hey, can we get a Neon400 sub forum under the HTC nike.
Neon400 was relased exclusively to canadian mobility providers in sept. 2008. It is the CDMA version of the HTC Touch Dual (Nike), and its hardware is vastly different than any of the Niki's or previous Neons, to the extend that all existing mods/roms will not be compatible.
if that is not an option, could you please sticky this thread?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437083
us Neon400 users are unfortunatly isolated from any of the software and modifications available to previous niki and neon users, thus having a our own place to toss around ideas and give advice, would help in building a community to start making software and mods that will work with our device.
Thanks!

I would like to put in a request for a Treo Pro Forum. Since it is made by HTC I believe the GREAT CHEFS here can make it a serious player in the smartphone game. I just got mine and am transitioning from the wing/herald and have used roms from ttran, papamopps, etc. The roms ive used from here were 100x better than stock so i know it would be the same for the T-Pro. Well nuff said, hope to hear from someone or see one soon. If a rom dump is needed and I can be walked through it I would be willing to do so to contribute.

Dear Admins/Moderators,
Quite a lot of us over at the Xperia X1 sub forum would like to put in a request that the Xperia X1 be given the 'three (or four) subforum layout' as (most of) the rest of the phones on this website.
We believe that there is more than enough users/supporters of the Xperia X1 to warrant this. As you can see for yourself there are many many posts and threads being added each day, a lot more that some of the other devices on this website.
I personally thought that it wasn't set up like this in the first place as it is not a 'branded' HTC device. I.E. Its being sold in the retail world as the 'SonyEricsson Xperia X1' and not by its codename 'HTC Venus'. But I see the HTC Dream aka T-Mobile G1, which is also not being sold in the retail world as a HTC device, has been given the 'three subforum layout'
Below are two threads started by users who would like to see the Xperia have its own 'three (or four) subforum layout' forum, as you can see there are quite a few posts about this topic. These are not the only threads, there are more but the links have eluded me as of right now.

It would be great to have four subforums like the Diamond:
Venus
Venus ROM development
Venus Accessories
Venus Themes, Applications and Software
I look forward to your reply, and really hope you see it in your hearts to give the Xperia the place (we all think) it deserves! :D

Yeah. As a upcoming owner of X1 and current owner (and cook) for Kaiser. I really hopes X1 could have forums similar to Kaiser or suggestion above.

Dear Admins/Moderators
I have mentioned that you have both our, Armenian GSM Operators, thank you for that. But in last 2-3 month they both changed their Owners and respectively their names.
Armentel has been bought by Beeline Russia and now it is just Beeline, no more Armentel anymore. www.beeline.am (http://www.beeline.am)
VivaCell has been bought by MTS Russia so it is now VivaCell-MTS www.vivacell.am (http://www.vivacell.am)
Both have changed their logos. When you have some time please update the info. I have attached Both New Logos.
Thank you for your Time and Work.

I don't know where else we can go for our last cry, but it is sad to see that the HTC Panther (Palm Treo Pro, Treo 850) is still not rewarded with own forums, even though its main thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419354)in the General section has more than 11.000 views, which is more than all Palm750 forums combined, and definitely more than a lot of other HTC devices around here. Other devices like the G1 and Touch HD have own forums with almost no views yet.
What's the story behind this?

Dear Admin,
I found the operator list in user CP is not complete, and also my operator is missing logo. I see that one operator is missing so I attached here their logo, hopefully some admin would update the list.
Thanks
Best regards
