Can I use a locked phone abroad ?

I intend to buy a new phone (MDA Pro/Qtek 9000). In case of buying a phone with sim lock (t-mobile germany), can I use that phone abroad for example with a swisscom prepaid card ?

no if it's sim locked it's locked to the tmobile sim
when you go to a place where your cellphone company dont cover you roam on other gsm networks which ones depend on the cellphone company's agreements with other networks

it's most often pretty expensive

which is why when ppl go to another country it's best to buy a prepaied sim from the country they go to since if they have a prepaied from another country it will also roam

If I am not mistaken, this phone is also known as the Universal. If you look on www.buzzdev.net you will find a free SIM unlocking utility for it.
