Orange SPV M500: Unlock OR Change rom

Hi!
I need to unlock an Orange SPV M500.
I've read some post telling some problem doing unlock (for ex: SPV M500 Locked to all Networks after Unlocking).
Do you think is better to unlock or is better to totally change the rom? :?

How old is your phone?
Do you have insurance??

My personal advice is, upgrade it if you don't mind if you lose your phone if things were to go wrong... Any doubts or concerns, then don't.

If you are willing to risk it .. its all a personal choice.
Could you live without the latest software changes??

Please note that unlocking and upgrading ROMs are different. Upgrading to the latest ROM may not cause any errors mostly but the device will still be locked to your network.

So if I change rom (for changing language) it will not remove simlock.
I need to proceed separately for removing lock, before or after changing rom (or update it).

My personal experience:
I tried all the tools and such here, nothing worked so I installed big storage rom. Was still locked, but then the unlocker worked, where before it said the phone was unlocked, but wasn't really.
