Here she is folks..... Keep in mind this is *BETA*.. there are still some things that i have to clean up... So go ahead and give it a whirl... This has only been tested on the 8125 G3 unlocked phones, i dont know if it will work on anything else outside of that!!!! So install at your own risk... Dr Puttingham seems to love it, and i think its pretty good. Dr Puttingham is also working on the stripped down version..

Major thanks goes to Molski for providing the core rom and his tweaks, and Dr Puttingham for his input and advice! And everyone else who made cabs for various things found on this board!

So install and give me your comments and suggestions.. and i will better prepare the final version

oh yeah, you need the link

ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Roms/Other_Unknown/Shogun_A_La_Carte_Cingular_WWE_2.exe

And for the N00bs.. d/l the exe, choose to unpack it to its own folder, then run ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID

**UPDATE**
Myself and faria have been working very hard on a future release.. it is currently in a private beta testing phase.. Anyone that is interesting in checking its current status feel free to check our blog

Just so's everyone knows ... the install appears to "stall" or "hang" at 94, 98 and 100% so don't be alarmed! DO NOT DISCONNECT YOUR DEVICE NO MATTER HOW LONG IT TAKES! Sorry to shout but I'm expecting somebody to think that their computer's locked up and "brick" their phone! (And one really shouldn't be running any apps like Outlook or such while upgrading...)

Look around in the Programs group for folders called WIFI, Tools and 800Message.

Wow, that's great to get a new rom - Awesome! But sorry, not to sound ignorant... can you please explain what the G3 unlock is. I'm running a 64k SIM in my phone, not 3G.

Is the 8125 capable of running at 3G speeds, or are earlier models limited? Is this a hardware or software limitation... I would like to get my card swapped out with Cingular if possible. Thanks for your help.

when i mention G3 and G4 its the difference in chips in the wizard, if you boot your phone and get .001 at the end of the ipl and spl numbers then you have a G4 and i dont recommend using my new rom, although i might be able to make an identical rom for the G4 (i just dont have a phone with G4 to test it) And the wizard does not do UMTS only Edge, so no its not capable of 3G speeds... wait till cingular offers the 8525 and you can get 3g

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe he is talking about the 3rd Generation 8125 not the 3rd Generation wireless protocol.. Anyone try this ROM yet.. I'm still on Summiter's 2.17 and am not in a situation where I can experiment with my device no matter how much I want to..

Shogunmark, what advantages does this ROM offer up over my 2.17?

1. I was able to install this rom on a non G3 or G4 chipset and it works beutifully.
2. I would not include Pocket Controller since many people, including myself, don't have that software and thus its useless to me at least.
3. I don't know what program you installed to fully close applications but its a little annoying and puts a red dot in the X. I would recommend instead Smartsky.
4. Nice job including Omap and Omap plus. Very very nice.
5. Amazing job and keep up the good work.

Running it now. All I can say is IMPRESSIVE. This is the best custom rom for the 8125 yet. Thanks!

oh yeah, pocket controller will be left out of the final.. i forgot that it was in the beta.. i just got tired of having to re-install it when i was trying out different cabs and such..

i havent used wclose before, which is the program that fully closes the program.. it is kinda growing on me though

anyway, thanks for your input, i will keep a list of all suggestions for the final. The input is greatly appreciated!

i havent fully tested that aspect.. I mean who makes calls with a phone anyway  ... but this is built of the molski 2.26 rom with the good 2.25.11 radio which i ran prior to this and cant think of where i ever dropped a call with it

Cool. My dropped calls might be the fault of weather panel and flexmail2007. but i've gotten extremely irritated with my dropped calls. I'll give your ROM a shot once you release the final.

Oh and I second the "no need for the app closer software" movement as i'm a wisbar guy anyway.

On your pervious thread you mentioned that you would look into a stripped down version of this. I would like to try it but really dont want all the add ons. Are they removable via the remove programs thing in the settings? Also could you put together a complete list of all the features of this rom...or somewhere that list all the features?

Thanks for all the work!

im an Xbar kinda guy, not free, but used it alot when i use to run smartphones, its a cool little program. But i did like how appcloser will actually close the program from just clicking the x instead of just minimizing.. but at any rate, this rom is for everyone and will be built accordingly to whats popular by use, so if the general population dont want it then i will exclude, or maybe make a cab so it will be easy to install/uninstall.. who knows, just keep up the suggestions!

Dr. puttingham has decided to work on the stripped down version so i can focus on this one.. right now only some of the features are removable from remove programs.. in an effort limit the massive amount of cabs it took to install this i had combined some..

i will compile a full list later today, right now i gotta hit the shower and get to work..

Mark, what tools are you using to make your ROM's? I've been trying to use mamaich's (think I got the name right), and although I can extract everything fine, I can't seem to turn it back into the binary file..

Looking to see if you might have any ideas.. I've searched the forums more times than I can count..

Thanks!

Well... nothing personal but I'm staying on with shogunmark's Cingular experiment. Lot's to do here but it's geared more for me. (gee I wonder why!)

OK, let it all hang out!

wclose should be left out of startup (my add in, kinda like it - install by user
smartskey - fantastic - install by user
omap - again fantastic -install by user, perhaps with smartskey
CF2 in ROM - get to it Mark!

I'm with the leaner, meaner ROM myself. This one faster, even with omap left out. molski's tweaks and my additions I think help.

And I like the idea of a Cingular ROM as ... that's my ROM...

Lot's of hard work being done here... respect to all!

Cheers!

you know.. come to think of it most of these apps were yours  Here is an interesting idea.. how about putting all of these apps in in the extended rom and building shortcuts in a folder in the programs menu to install them?!?!? then it would give the user a choice on where to install them?!?

i would like to make a program and make it all pretty... but im not that advanced yet.. all i would need is a gui that would access the install cab from the extended rom

the best part is that even though all these programs will be in the extended rom it will have no affect on actual storage space.. kinda like a clean rom with options :D

So far here are my impressions:

Likes:

1. REALLY fast. I swear, this is the fastest 8125 ROM I have *ever* tried.
2. Some nice options, I especially like the THIN slider bars
3. It always asks me if I want to CLOSE programs (usually YES!), and I love that. AWESOME.

Dislikes:

1. there is a little icon near the battery/charge status and when I try to do "configure" it throws an error.
2. The little "Comm Manager" icon that's on the desktop by default in the cingular version isn't there. Wish it was.

All in all it's progressing nicely!

Thank you.. and glad you like! And i also appreciate your feedback... and as far as your dislikes... that one little icon that throws an error is something that i accidentally left in.. and will be removed for the final release... and i will see what i can do about the missing com manager.. if anyone know a quick fix feel free to let me know.. i have a lot on my plate already...

also i was gonna plan on using the new aku3.2 on my rom... HOWEVER i am having some serious slow issues with it.. maybe i will release 2.. we will see...

Hey Mark,

Any chance of a stripped down ROM, kinda like the 3.2 release that's running around? I'm trying the 3.2 again after a hard reset this morning (made a post about it in the 3.2 thread).. But, I'm looking for minimal apps.

Also, what apps are you using to make your ROM's? I'd much rather ultimately cook my own, as I've got a couple of apps that I'd love for them to be in the ROM, versus installing them every time I blow the brains out on it, much less the space savings. I've tried using mamaich's imgfs tools, but have had problems with getting everything back into the format they need to be for flashing.

Thanks!

I have heard that if you install your back up from SPB on an updated rom that it will give your older components back as well as all your user data... i havent tested this, so i cant confirm nor deny it.. you can always make a back up and try it... if it dont work then you can install your old rom and run the back up.. just a thought

don't like red d on close (X) button
unsure if like yes/no when closing program
Really want voice command from BT hands free in final if possible
comm mgr on today screen will be nice

Biggest problem:
Frequently does not recognize SIM "may make emergency calls only: no sim" loses carrier (Cing). can't wait for final version, really pleased overall, honestly how important is it to use the phone "feature" when you can do so many other things on it?

i didnt like the yes/no close at first, but when you choose yes it fully closes it, not just minimize.. at any rate.. my final version will let you choose what you want to install ;)

as far as it not recognizing the sim.. hmmm, so far your the only one that had this issue... on regular phones with no mods i know this is usually a defective or loose sim or maybe even a loose sim, and your phone didnt do this prior to the rom change?!? Would the rom even cause this... hmmm i am gonna have to check around on this, im baffled.. but your right, who wants to use a phone as a phone anyway :D

In the meantime please delete the wclose shortcut from \windows\startup to get rid of the annoying red X. I use it in conjunction with Smartskey as so many of my clients use the stylus a lot and close (they think) with the X instead of holding the Contacts key to close. A number of months ago Faria made me a custom ROM as a favor and included SMClose, which is basically the same program, and I really liked it.

I am still waiting for the new version, but about what was asked above about integrating voice dialing via bluetooth: would that be possible to integrate as well? would this process below work? (apologies if the link doesn't work...)

I haven't tried this yet but I figure it would work. if it could be integrated then that would be so much more complete :)

I am so excited!!!! also, I would not worry about the AKU 3.2 if it hinders speed. these devices are already slow enough...

Voice Dialing with what program? What BT? Trust me, BT dialing has never worked quite right. Several posts here and elsewhere attesting to this. Some BT's work... sometimes. Others, no. I found a really good blog recently that documeted that the frequency Microsoft Voice Command used was different from what the Bluetooth developers finally adopted and hence some of the problems...

Actually a quick google .. http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/archive/2006/02/03/524289.aspx

I have been able to use my BT headset to voice dial by pressing the multi func. button (moto hs810) now this button brings up phone and voice dial is not in Settings menu ??? honestly no big deal...
Now I have never had issue with SIM before. Now during a call I will be cut off and get an icon where bars are of sim card shape with "x" over it and/or antenna with no bars "searching" in areas where have had full coverage. says "no sim or unrecognized sim may only make emergency calls dependant on carrier."
Have unlocked phone with cing sim card, maybe not related to ROM but pretty big coincidence, minor annoyance at this time reset seems to temporarily treat but no telling how long I can talk before cuts out, anyway can't wait for final and forgot to say love having A2DP!

I will look into the voice dial thing.. The sim thing baffles me.. from what i understand i dont believe the rom would affect this.. and no one else reports this problem.. all i can say is weird.. does anyone else have any insight on this?!?!? this bothers me.. i have to know whats causing this, since no one else has reported this problem do you think you could drop by a cingular store and tell them that you think your sim is fried and give them the description of your problem? If a new sim doesnt fix your problem and they charge you for it i would be willing to re-imburse you the cost of the sim...

Thanks for this ROM. I would also appreciate it if you could write up a HOW-TO customize your ROM. I am looking to install several other apps into the ROM in addition or versus the ones you have graciously installed for us.

I am looking at CF2 or CF2.1
Pocket Informant 2007
alarmToday
Phone Alarm
Magic Button vs wclose
iSilo

This way I can customize to my hearts content.

Pocket Informant 2007
alarmToday
Phone Alarm
Magic Button vs wclose
iSilo

This way I can customize to my hearts content.

This ROM already has netCF2 on it.. and i will look into those other programs, are they all freeware programs?? What i plan on doing with the final version is making a GUI installer that will allow you to install what you want instead of it all installing initially.. that is the current hold up..

It is a very nice and fast rom however I am also having problems with voice dialing. It will not work with ms voice command or speed dial even when set with voice enable just brings up the phone dialer.

The only one that is a freeware is Magic Button. I have attached it's cab to this post. The others are programs I use.

Pocket Informant - PIM replacement for WM Calendar/Contact manager/Notes Mgr.

iSilo - very good cross platform reader.
PhoneAlarm - good phone profile manager.
alarmToday - allows one to set phone to silent but still be used for Scheduled alarms that will actually ring.

I have a couple of other programs I use to like:
TimeTracker MX2 for billing and time keeping for client projects.
Also Microsoft Reader.
StopTime - A good freeware stopwatch.
Kasmi Orionic - Star Map. Freeware.
PocketPutty - Freeware edition.
NewsBreak - Good RSS Application reader.
Pocket Streets - Mapping ala Microsoft.

Most of my programs are Payware. Thats why I want to Create my own OS ROM not Ext ROM. This way most of these are in the Program Memory versus Storage Memory. I use most of my Storage memory with the 5000+ emails I have on my PDA. Yes I really sync all of them. Plus all my contacts and calendar items. So memory is a precious thing to have.

I've also got almost a 1000 contacts in my setup. I do this all via Exchange ActiveSync. Thank goddness for push email. I really wish manufacturers realized that some of us would appreciate about 512MB of Flash ROM or even MORE!!!! Sometimes I think the HTC people troll boards like this and Howard Forums.

I can't even guess how many calendar items I have. It takes a couple of hours for me to resync after setting up a new ROM or doing a hardreset.

sorry for asking, but I'm a newbie, had the phone a year, but haven't had the balls to try to try Roms out. Heres my question, should I take out my SIM card when I upoad this into my 8125 and does the HTC need to be unlocked in order to run this rom correctly? Has anyone tried it on their locked phone.

Thanks... and appologies for the stupid questions if they are already answered, please direct me to the correct post.

by the way.. dont worry about the Noob post with me.. i was there not to long ago.. some guys on here get nasty about it (which i can understand, im sure it gets old answering the same questions over and over), but it dont bother me (yet), im just glad i could help ;)

my current rom includes IPL/SPL 2.26 and was made for a G3 chipped phone.. So yes, your phone will need to unlocked.. my final release will be different.. and also if you boot your phone and it is says 2.25.001 this its a G4 chip and not a G3

They are my Inbox'es and Sent Items for clients with all their history. This way I don't have to lug arround my laptop. The only time it get broken out is when I can't connect to a router via SSH or telnet and thats getting rarer nowadays. I'm a network engineer. Also self-employed. So lots of email to run my business.

Shogunmark.

I have attached a small app that I am currently testing/building that may allow us to have a custom installer build.

It would work something like this:

My program would be the only CAB file in the extended rom - the others would be called CA_ or similar.

My program would launch and display as it does now - reading a list of the possible install programs that are present as CA_ files in the extended rom - from the XML file (installed into the program directory - or read from ext rom - havent decided yet - probably best from ext rom in the end so that it can be configured at cooking time).

The program presents a simple list of programs and in the XML file - the location to the CA_ file - now currently the program simply executes Calc/Word/Excel if you select them.

My thoughts are: the program will copy the CA_ file into ram and then execute it in the same way (to install).

Would this work - should I continue development on it or am I missing something?

Please note - if you want to edit items in the XML to test it's dynamic ability - make sure the tags are in proper case as XML is case sensitive.

J-Man5Wow! I'm also a self employed network engineer with lots of client history. I've been lucky in that I can carry 1 months's emails and 2 weeks back on my Calendar and carry on. There's times I've had to go back further but typically I'll always been able to borrow a PC onsite and connect to my terminal server, OWA as a last resort. We've all different needs though!

(doesn't that many Calendar events slow your PDA down a lot? The two clients I've had that insisted on keeping all the Calendar history couldn't stand the sluggishness)

And, being as that I flash my device about as often as a cloud passes over the sun, I'd never get anything done!

Wow.. Lot of network engineers around here.. I kind of loosely clump myself in the group of network engineer.. I'm a contractor, and I actually pretty much own the network for the client I'm at all day every day.. And I rarely need to go back more than week or so for emails, even when I did deal with multiple clients..

Admittedly though, I do have my entire Inbox and Sent items downloaded though. I just have a tendency to archive like crazy.. :)

That would be fantastic! There are some apps that were included, Total Commander for example, that I don't have a use for... I paid for Resco Explorer ;)

I like the ROM a lot... though I'm not a big fan of the dialer pad replacement... I ended up spending a ton of time last night trying to replace it... heh. I installed some Vodaphone thing that hosed it (no numbers, everything else worked) but then I couldn't get it back to yours. Long story short, I found an acceptable solution, but I have two dial pad themes... one portrait and one landscape. :)

When do we get a new release? RC1? Keep up the dandy work!

OK - development will continue then!

Am home from my contract now for the weekend - so will be putting some work into this.

I could only run this as an emulator at work as they dont allow smart devices to connect with their PC's!

So should get a lot more done. Once I have a working version - I have no reserves about donating the source code here for anyone that would want to deviate or make mods.

I have picked up a fair bit from these forums - so is about time I gave back.

Only real limit I can see will be the amount of space in the Ext ROM to the number of programs we can built in up there.

Zero - thanks for the remarks

Hi, Not a network engineer (or self employed) so I have what it probably a dumb question.

Am I correct in understanding that our phones have 2 kinds of memory, storage and program. I show 47.46 storage and 44.01 program with 25.29 and 31.11 in use.

What are the differences between the two? Is it a fixed or dynamic allocation? From what I understand by creating a custom ROM you will be able to include apps in the ROM to save memore, but which kind?

When Shogun and I were talking I was envisioning a ROM loader in which everything under the sun (or at least available freeware, tones, themes etc) was put in the file and you could then choose to load what you wanted. You would then install your own programs.

Am I correct that what you are creating now is a way that anyone can take the basic ROM, add programs they have purchased, and then install? That is even cooler than I thought!

The extended Rom on the wizard is allocated at 10megs.. whether you fill it up or not, its 10megs.. Also even if its not full you still dont get that extra space.. (anyone feel free to correct if i am wrong at any point) and i dont think anyone has figured out how to get that space available for storage (to my knowledge) and that if you try to write to it that it can trash whats there already...

what i decided to do was put as many freeware programs that people use in there and make a GUI interface to install those programs if wanted.. that way you dont end up with extra junk you dont want and have the stuff you do want in case of hard reset... i want to make a fast rom but have many options available!

You guys are the ones that rock! i know i have said it before but i am gonna say it again.. This rom was truely built by all of you on this XDA board, the ideas, the comments, the various cabs all over this board!! Merely think of me as the guy on an assembly line that is just taking your ideas and putting the pieces together! So give yourself's a pat on the back and tell me to quit typing and get to work on this thing already :D

I also want to point something out to everyone else and the n00bs out there... before coming to this board i didnt know jack shit, except an understanding of how things work, and thirst for wanting to know how it all works. After countless hours of reading and searching i have gotten the knowledge to get this far! This board is full of great information, search and you will find (and you will also learn how to search better, lol)

ok, im out.. time to do some work on this thing! Have a great weekend and dont do anything that i wouldnt do.. but if you do, then name if after me

Hi Guys,

My phone is an unlocked i-mate K-JAM running on the Cingular network. I currently have Summiter's AKU 2.3 Cingular ROM running. The phone reports the following on start up:

IPL 2.24
SPL 2.24
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.24.10.1

Device information reports:

ROM ver 2.24.10.1 WWE
ROM Date 4/17/06
Radio ver 02.25.11
Protocol ver 4.1.13.12
ExtROM ver 2.25.11.102

1. Does the IPL & SPL indicate that I do have a G3 chip set?
2. Is this ROM an advance over the ROM I have loaded?
3. Would you expect some performance improvement?

Presently the phone is quite sluggish and I have to reset and run MemMaid 2 or 3 times a day.

OK - update time.

The full installer is built and occupies only 39K in total. Therefore 9.9meg is free in the ext_rom for optional programs!

Shogunmark is now building the list of programs we intend to include and then once I have built the XML and recompiled this should be good to go.

The flash rom will burn the new rom + put all the programs in the ext_rom - but will run none of them aka a clean rom.

It will run my installer which will install a program called "EXT-ROM INSTALLER" to your programs folder.

By running this you will have the ability to install whatever you need from the EXT-ROM.

One little bug to squish is that although you can multi select programs to install - it appears to only install the first at the moment...hmmm...working on fixing.

Unfortunately i didnt get to use everyone's ideas just yet, i am still working on something else to be able to squeeze them in there.. I have nicknamed this one A La Carte due to the fact that there is now a program where you can choose exactly what you want to install! There is a small bug in the Ext Rom Installer and that is you can only choose 1 program at a time to install, Mr. Dazzling Daz is working to correct that as we speak... so chew on this for probably another week.. I know it doesn't "look" pretty - but does the job. Does it work for everyone? has anyone had any problems with it (besides only installing one at a time?)

Let me / Shogunmark know what programs you would most like to see stored up there - that way we can build a generic set.

Thanks and great job.

dazzlingdaz
18th September 2006, 03:33 PM
The installer lists all the available programs that are currently built into the EXT_ROM hidden locked memory.

It's just an "easier" way of providing a clean rom - but storing all the programs away so that less experienced users can install their required programs from the free "locked" memory that we have.

The installer basically does the same as going into the extended_rom folder in total commander (or similar) and running the cab to install.

Just nicer and easier to be presented with a list which you can tick and run.

Guys.....let me know what you think of the installer.

I know it doesn't "look" pretty - but does the job. Does it work for everyone? has anyone had any problems with it (besides only installing one at a time?)

Let me / Shogunmark know what programs you would most like to see stored up there - that way we can build a generic set.

Mark/Daz
Some of the programs/tweaks that are freeware that I always have installed are:

FDC PPCContacts Manager - This came with the Summitter ROM but supposedly it is less buggy than stock and since I have never had any problems I left it in.

Registry Wizard - GUI interface for reg hacks/tweaks
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=39725&highlight=

TofClock Today Plugin - Allows for picture speed dials a la 700w
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48545&highlight=picture+speed+dial

TCPMP

Smart Dial+Eten Skin with Landscape Eten skin
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=48325&highlight=eten+smartdial+landscape

Smartskey Simply the best thing to happen to my phone ever

BTW, any progress on getting Voice Command to work with this ROM version?

Like i said, its not a complete list, but i wanted to get something out there with this multi-installer so i can get some feedback on it... and we are aware of the issue with it only installing 1 at a time.. it is a pain, but i know that darren will get it figured out, so im not worried!

I also added zoA2DP and a wireless today plug in that makes the wireless today a direct link to your Comm manager which those install from the extended rom!

.NET CFv2
Flash
Molski Performance tweaks
Molski Customizing tweaks
Molski Voice Dial Customizer (makes your voicedial button a lock button)
Omap
1800message.com Message Vault
1800message.com Call Recorder (i still never tested this yet, has anyone else?) lol
Wclose (the annoying red X that will close programs instead of minimizing)
PocketRar
Search Today (today plugin to search the net)
Today Agenda (today calendar plugin)
VXutil (a network utility, pings, traceroute, etc)
WifiFoFum
Wifi HitchHiker
Stop Time (a stop watch program)

There will be more to come on the final.. so keep that feedback rolling!!

Enjoy

the voice command is next on my list.. this weekend was not my weekend for this stuff.. i ran into problem after problem after problem.. stuff didnt start working right for till i wanted to go to bed last night... after stuff started going my way i put this all together to get it out...

Also i did fix the regular voice dial on the phone with using the button on the bluetooth... i know that was an issue with someone on the last beta

i used up to much space.. and i know its cause of .net and flash, they are both over 1meg each.. my final will incorporate them into the OS instead of the extended rom... but that will be a project for this week... hopefully it will co-operate with me better

i dont think so... besides, aku3 is slow and gets worse day after day.. did you figure out the loop problem with the installer yet? Anyway i need to get in the shower and get ready for work.. email me when you get the chance!

oh and people.. there is an issue with one of Molski's tweaks changing the Edge icon back to G.. which isnt really a problem, its still edge.. just a different icon... if this bugs you then use TRE and navigate here to change the reg key

HKLM,"Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL","EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon", change the value of 0 to 1

This one seems like DA BOMB. I have not seen a ROM yet with this kind of customized installer capability (or have I missed something). This is really a Wizardly ROM in many different ways!

well i dont think its been done to this extent.. or else we both missed something...

think of this post as an info-mercial.. You'll get this rom, and this customized app installer, all for the low price of nadda.. but wait, there's more (but i aint gonna leak that yet :p ) yes i do have a final trick up my sleeve.. but before that i am gonna work with darren and get this app installer working just right and probably release another beta for testing for other people.. then the final release will have my next secret idea :D

lets just say i plan on doing something that will benefit more than cingular people :Dlet me guess what is yor secret....
you are going to configure the extended with various operators settings ,so when the extended rom runs it will ask the user what operator is he on and install the aprropiate cab file in automode.this i have done to a rom that i have built to an XDA user called DR. SOMETHING
I BELIVE. this is just a guess.

about wmclose...

this little app was build then by a portuguese felow and sent to me,then i have integrated it to the rom above ,and thats is how it is here now.

if you guys need any help with the rom let me know.a can integrate apps into the rom, like adobe pdf for instances.
good work every one.

after you install the regular 3 second customization will begin, after all of that then you will have an app in the programs menu called Ext_Rom installer which will allow you to choose which program you want to install

Will this work with Orange in the UK?

It is not, I thought I saw something posted somewhere here that was a seperate CAB. hmmm, interesting... it almost sounds like a provider problem if you have the same issue on different phones.. try an experiment.. before entering the subway put it on flight mode, after exiting the subway switch it back off of flight mode... see if that saves you a few strokes of the stylus! Everyone is in for a good treat... its almost like a having a superstar team build bits and pieces and thrown together into 1 rom!

On another note.. i noticed that no one is asking for themes or ringers... i dont ever really care for them and dont really like them taking up space, plus i think most people either use the default ones or have ones saved that they like... therefore decided not to really include them in my rom, yes there was just a few themes, but they were basic...

faria, if you have some already included a rom you plan on modifying then its cool, if not then i dont think you really need to worry about including any! Unless people want a variety.. but so far in 5 pages no one has mentioned it.....

beer glass screen?? im assuming your talking about the first screen you have when you boot? or the 2nd splash screen? must have come from your old rom.. my final will include a different splash/htc logo.. different projects for a different day..

Unless someone out there wants to take part in that portion also?? i have a few ideas, but suck at any type of drawing, making pics, etc... i was definitely not born an artist

you can read this thread for more info...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=56179

i also want to take a qoute from that thread for other G4 users looking around here...

Currently you are right - A G4 rom cannot be unlocked free via any software available on this site. If you truly want to unlock you're phone, you're going to have to pay.

That noted, you will always have to make sure that the ROM you're flashing will not replace your bootloader (which is a safe way to go anyway) or flash with a newer bootloader than what you have (which is the IPL/SPL 2.x). Do not ever go backwards (1.x bootloaders) because you will brick your device.

The only saving grace you can give an attempt to is the lokiwizMSL03a or lokiwiz03a programs by machinagod. I cannot confirm if these have or have not worked with a G4 chipset wizard.

Safe bet currently for G4 wizard owners - pay to get the thing unlocked; you won't brick your device.

With that being said i want to mention that my new rom does NOT include a new ipl/spl so G4 shouldnt brick but with any custom cooked rom.. every device is different.. Brickage is always a possibility and cant garauntee it wont happen (this is always the scary part for noobs)

i also suggest wm5storage (sp?) as a program to have in the ext rom if possible. i will keep testing with a few of my fav programs u canot istall wm5storage from the extended rom because it requires a reboot and therefore crashing the extended rom installation.but dont wory, it will be integrated into the rom if the author of the rom does not mind.thanks for reminding me.

Greetings faria! This is indeed turning into a dream team!

A little ways up menupop was mentioned. That was from a "nosounds" cab that I created with molski from two filles I found here. It's in the original beta.
My spacebar broke, waiting on replacement phone... not used to using the stylus..

Cheers! allo old friend

so far i have inegrated into the rom;
soft key applet

java

WiFiTray.exe

SwitchUSB_PPC.exe

netcf2

new task manager

missing fonts

mms missing file

all of this are coming out of the extended rom therefore giving more storage space to the end user.

tomorow i will do some testing
then the rom will be sent to the author at diferent stages so he can test and put out the final version for everyone.

ps.

excellent... and i took the OS from a Molski 2.26 rom as it seemed to be the fastest

i somewhat disagree... or maybe you meant it in a different explanation.. did you maybe mean you cant run it from the ext rom? WM5 storage is packaged with Molski's voicedial customizer which i installed out of ext rom with no issues

xpress mail ?

i just took the plunge and installed this ROM but i can not get express mail to work.. i keep getting ERROR s7109 connection timed out.. when trying to "retrieve account settings" - initial re-setup.

i can get to the web.. so i am unsure why its hanging with this.. anyone use it ?

or have anyother push mail recomendations ? my company is still in the process of upgrading to exchange 2003 so i use this option to push my email to my device.

hmmm, you got me on that...i know it can act as an aggregator, however when you reply it will come from the mail2web.com address... let me play with that tonight.. i will set up xpress mail and see if i can duplicate the same error... where did you get the install cab from? i will use the cab from the cingular ext rom, but would like to see if thats where you got yours

makes me wish someone out there had an exchange server out there that would let you configure a pop3 account... that would be cool.. that way i could sync all my data like mail2web, but still use a different email address....

You shouldnt have any problem reflashing, i only change a few cabs and the xml in the installer... but if you can flash this real soon let me know if you run into any issues so i can fix before i go to work!

I agree about the tones and themes.... it seems most people interested in my rom have a more professional need i guess you could say.. Most people in this thread and through my experience get a phone like this for the functionality, the apps, etc, which is why i went that route...

This may sound like i am putting DUlrich1227 down.. but im not... i would say that 95% want apps.. the other 5% wants tones and themes as well as the apps.. in which there is nothing wrong with that.... OK since, i feel like i am putting DUlrich1227 down when i am not lets do this...

DUlrich1227 you are in charge of the tones!!!!! Get the ones you want either to me or faria

Tones and themes could always be put in a seperate cab perhaps...
I'm not into the ringers and themes and such myself, but that's just me.
A fast lil PDA is what I'm looking forward to!
Functionality first and cosmetics later...
But that's just MY opinion...

I was referring to a cab that one could keep on their SC to install at their leisure. I really need the apps! the vxUtil came in quite handy just recently. And the WIFI apps are also appreciated. Just wish there was a PDF viewer that actually worked. Speaking on those lines, any TIFF viewer ideas? My faxes come in both flavors...

off topic. but doesnt active sync allow you to sync up more than one device.. since i flashed i cant access my contacts etc since i guess activesync detects it as a different device. it just connects me as guest

EDIT. ok difference so far is that this time it actually installed the apps instead of putting extrom installer in the programs. It looks like all apps from the ext rom were installed.

i also now notice pocket controller in the bottom tray. when u click to configure it though an error appears. "missing configuration component. the software may not have installed properly."

The wireless today plugin used to take me to communication manager when clicked but not anymore.

Hi Mark and crew,

'Tis I the little birdie that contributes nothing but comments!! I have a question about the direction this ROM development project is going in... From my understanding the original intent was to create a rather large package that had a very bare bones ROM and lots of options.

This way, Dr. P (or his twin) could download the large package and install just the basic ROM. Ringerboys (you know who you are) could download the same package and install rings and themes to their hearts content.

It seems as though the project has moved towards putting everything into the ROM. Am I simply mistaken or have technical limitations forced you guys to move in that direction?

Please take this as an honest question not harping criticism.

good question, i did sit back last night and question the project to make sure its going in the direction and i intended.. and let me elaborate..

I have always intended on making a fast rom, one that everyone will be happy with (even though i know i cant please everyone) and one that will have lots of commonly used freeware in the ext rom in the case of a hard reset.. basically something for everyone

there was a few technical complicatios and limitations that did force a few things to change, but i dealt with accordingly.. that is when i decided to have .net and java and mms folder, etc incorporated into the OS... Having those added into the OS saves 3-4 meg in the extended rom...

So yes, you still get a barebones OS for the most part, just a handful necessary things added to the OS to save room for apps in the ext rom, anything that is getting put in the OS is being deemed as necessary.

So in the end result a few things are being added to the OS, but the added option of installing other freeware apps is still there... its not going to change much from this last beta.. I also wont put out anything i dont like, so if i try the OS faria is putting together and i dont like it, or i think its slow then i will request a re-work.

This is why everyone's comments and problems and praises are so critical to me, heck the guy with the problem of an invalid sim.. i even offered to re-imburse him the price of a sim if it was my rom causing it. I enjoy seeing that everything thinks its a great rom, and i will stay as true to that as possible.

I know i have said this once and i will say it again... This rom is being built by the members of XDA for the Members of XDA, My TEAM and i are merely assembling it.

now i better get back to work :D

I was referring to a cab that one could keep on their SC to install at their leisure. I really need the apps! the vxUtil came in quite handy just recently. And the WIFI apps are also appreciated. Just wish there was a PDF viewer that actually worked. Speaking on those lines, any TIFF viewer ideas? My faxes come in both flavors...adobe works great ,but it is massive.

your right, i changed that also.. i like moslki's customizations.. however i feel it would be better for others to have a little more control over their customization

Tones and themes could always be put in a seperate cab perhaps...
I'm not into the ringers and themes and such myself, but that's just me.
A fast lil PDA is what I'm looking forward to!
Functionality first and cosmetics later...
But that's just MY opinion...

actually there is only one i am looking for and i am unsure of the name of it .. but its loud an obnoxius ..

like a horn and than says check the screen... i have my pager forwarded to text messages and it gets my attention.

thanks

why does it keep on saying 503 login error
I am logged in...and have dl other things from this forum before. Is there a special username and pw for this particular link? Anyone else having problems?

thats strange... username and password is built into the link.. hence the xda:xda@ i havent heard of anyone else having issues... are you using IE or an actual ftp program (which actually shouldnt matter since the user/pass is in the link)

try to reflash... power off the phone, hold down the camera button, continue to hold while pressing the power button, you will then get the RGB bootloader screen... hook up the usb cable and reflash

Either use IE or look for FireFTP or download a real FTP client.

HOOORAYY!!! i got it working. i think there was something with the 1.0 rom. i first flashed the cingular 2.25 rom and then i flashed with your guys rom and now its working fine. got full bars and working perfectly. thank you guys for the help. and now to play with the new toy. Oh and one more thing fellow modders out there that have a cingular 8125 with a g4 chip, do a warranty exchange and they will send you out a 8125 with a g3 chip. thats what they sent me. that way it'll rid you of all those headaches of not being able to flash roms and all that good stuff. well good luck with everything guys and i cant wait for the final release. Adios :D

no need to unlock all over again.. you can go to www.htcamerica.net and obtain a factory rom to update the bootloaders.. or as long as you have a G3 chip (no .001 at the end of the IPL/SPL) then you could also download my first beta as it does have updated 2.26 IPL/SPL then re-install my latest beta

weird, that was one of the aspects i fully tested with this rom, and i didnt have any issues on mine, i have 2 routers, both with wep keys, one 64bit one 128bit keys, and no issues... verify that the key you are typing in is correct, if that fails, as a test turn off the wireless security on your router and see if it will connect like that... let me know what happens

oh man............oh man oh man oh man. the things i have missed for goin from an htc, to a horrible sidekick 1 and 2, and now back to an mda. God i loooooove roms lol and this one is no exception. i just installed it so im gonna check it out. i do have one thing with my email tho, i use mail2web thru wifi because i still havent changed my data plan so i get no data on the phone unless i attach to a wifi connection, well, when i installed xceleions rom, my attachments would download automaticaly then from his rom i went to RUU_RIsidoro_2.26.10.2_WWE+CF2SP1_G3.exe rom and my emails stop automatically downloading the attachments and if the email was to long it would also cut the email after a few lines and post a link for me to download the rest. also when i tried to attach a picture to an email it didnt show any pics in the windows and the drop down menu would freeze when i selected it. So i decided to upgrade the rom again with this one hoping to fix the problems. well i can attach pics now no prob again but my attachments arent downloading still. any thoughts on what i can do?

Well I am not sure about mail2web but I know that when I flash a ROM I have to go into ActiveSync options (since I use it to sync with my exchange server) and change the settings so that it gets the whole e-mail as well as attachments. You can also choose what time span to sync calender, etc.

I don't think this will affect your pic attachment issue but hopefully gives you an idea where to look.
