The Hermes wiki lists all the file contents of all extended roms of the hermes variants, but there is no explanation of what these things are.

I have a Vario II with a T-Mob ROM and _depetrately_ want to get rid of their "interesting" pink theme.

So I hard reset the handset, soft reset it just before it auto launches t-mobile customisation and then make the extended rom visible.

Problem though, is that after that I dont know what is what in the extended rom: I want to avoid everything pink, but at the same time still apply patches, etc...

SO: here is a list of all T-Mob ext rom files, and if anyone knows for sure what they do/are, please post here. It may even be worth updateing the wiki with the results.

CAB: \Extended_ROM\MP-Hermes-Camera-patch-060613.CAB *** CAMERA PATCH
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_Account-MMS.CAB *** MMS CLIENT?
CAB: \Extended_ROM\MT_PC_Hermes_TMO_REG_060612.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_HER_TMUK-UXC_12JUN06.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\PP_pIESetting_TMUK_050906.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\ST_Her_BT_FIR_Param612.CAB
CAB: \Extended_ROM\P_rilgsm_patch.CAB *** GSM PATCH
CAB: \Extended_ROM\Patch_RTPlugInEx2.CAB

I can't help you with what bits are what in the extended Rom but thought I would mention that you can change the theme even without having to change the Rom.

All you need to do is go into the 'Start Menu', 'Settings', then click on the 'Today' button. In there you will see a list of themes, just select the 'Windows Default' , click 'ok' and the pink will be gone :) You can download lots of free themes off the internet as well if you want to customise your phone further.

Not sure if this helps but hope it does.

thanks Nicky :D , but I was actually after more than that (i am currently running Vistabliss theme).

what i was trying to do is remove ALL operator changes: e.g. program groups, ie favourites, certain installed apps (i am allergic to the mms client... dont ask why... i dont know myself...).

what i want to do is start with a wm5 in its most patched and up to date state, withoutt anything the operator thinks i should use or look at, and then add the 4 or 5 apps that really matter to me.

the best way to do that is by differentiating what is in that extended rom (e.g. a standard Hermes, with no patches of any kind cannot do any video calling...), and separating operator marketing material from functional applications.

Oh, okay ... I thought from your post that you sounded like you were fairly technical so I suspected that you probably already knew about the various standard settings options available but thought I would mention them anyway just in case you didn't :)

I haven't quite ventured into the area of Roms, extended Roms and registry editing yet but I am gradually building up to it :D
