Active sync usb connection problem

Hi, I have an mda compact II but it's a similar beast to the wizard.

Anyway, just recently I have not been able to connect to my pc via the usb cable although I can via bluetooth.

I have disabled firewalls, antivirus.

The pc sees the phone as a mobile device within networking but the active sync icon just spins and eventually says it cannot find the device.

The only thing i can think I have changed recently is adding wm5torage but even an uninstall doesn't fix this

Any ideas? it is frustrating that the pc sees the phone but active sync doesn't.

Now tried on the pc at work and have the same problem. Must be something on the phone. I'm guessing something has changed in the registry. I'm sure a hard reset will cure it but it would be nice not to have to.
