Did anyone have problems with SDHC memory cards? I have an 8GB one; I can use it but it gets corrupted with errors every time I put it in the device. In my PC I can check for errors but I put in the Mio it is again corrupted. My 2GB SD card has no problems.

Unfortunately very common nowadays you buy a 8gb card and it only holds 2gb and you get gobbledegook after that there are some very unscruplous sellers around.
If you bought it on Fleabay you can make a claim and get your money back and the same with most credit card companies.
P.S. Only use SD cards for upgrading.

The card seems to work fine outside the Mio P350. I really think it is the P350 that corrupts it. So if anyone else has this type of problem, please say so, because otherwise it may be just my card not operating with the Mio. The manufacturer logo on the card is takeMS, if that means something.

If you are happy that the card is okay you will have to install anti virus software as your unit has some sort of bug in it and needs to be cleaned.

i have solve my airis t620 without jtag solution. if appears just blue and red leds and black screen it doesn't meen you need jtag solution. in my case i didn't need jtag solution. what you have to do, and will not affect your PDA, is just to let him charge untill the charge led is off. then if you want to enter in boot menu you put the button in OFF position, then press the joystick down and the reset button together and don't let go. you switch the button to ON, continue to press down both buttons 5 seconds, release first the reset button, you still keep press the joystick down for 1 sec, then you release, and the then quickly press the joystick down just one-two times. then you release and will apper the boot menu. i was having the same problem like others, i was try to install CrashOverHead wm6.1, i made LowLevelFormat and then just black screen and blue&red leds.
if you want to install wm6.1 on the "dead" PDA, follow the step that i have written to enter in boot menu, and you can only install the wm6.1 if you make another LowLevelFormat, and you can install the wm6.1 only by memory card, but has to be format in FAT a.k.a FAT16 mode, NOT FAT 32. if you try to install by usb cable it will stop at 99%, that was in my case, and i try several times by cable, but didn't work.
i wish you good luck and hope to help this!

Ray,
In my knowledge, P550 has been first shipped with Windows CE 4.0 then with CE 5.0. There is no official update to Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5.
There are however a few versions "cooked" based on Windows Mobile 6.1 or 6.5 . For WM 6.1 you can find both the English and French version. For WM 6.5 only the French one.
Hard-reset is when you return the device to the state when the box has been first opened. In this way, you will loose all applications you have installed later on like TomTom. How to? By sliding with the point of your stylus the ovale hole at the bottom of the device to Off, let it in this Off state for 2-3 minutes, then slide it back again to On position. If you continue to see things exactly like before, that means you have to let it in Off position for longer time to allow the device to unload its memory.
For Soft reset, just insert the stylus point into the tiny round hole at the bottom of the device and press. It helps to unfreeze the device and you still have all your installed apps.
There are 2 ways to upgrade the rom on this device: Via a SD card (most used one) or via USB with additional USB driver to install on your PC. When you install via SD card, you'll have to:
1. Extract the rom file using 7-zip or WinRAR
2. Copy the 'winceimg.bin' file to your SD card.
3. Insert the card in your device
4. While holding the joystick button down, soft reset with the stylus point
5. A blue screen comes up (Bootloader). Use the joystick to navigate up and down:
6. Choose '0= Image Upgrade Tools'
7. Choose '1= Image by SD/MMC'
8. When the process is done, soft reset with the stylus point
I do not talk about USB flash as it has been already and largely discussed on this thread.
When you flash a new rom, it erases the existing. No need therefore for the existing version to run OK before flashing.
If you really have WM 6.5 in English (?), thanks to share.
I followed this step and I somewhat recovered my uncle's P550. I flashed the Windows Mobile 6.1 by CrashoverHead and it booted up fine and made a noise twice. Now I see it says "Tap the screen to set up your Windows Mobile-based device" so I did, but nothing happens. Before the P550 was a complete brick. Now I can at least boot up to the splash screen.
Edit: I did a lowlevelformat and now, the screen turns off on splash screen. Tapping it brings the screen back, but I still cannot get past the splash screen.

I tried to do the 6.1 Rom by "CrashOverhead"
It said everything went OK but there was no way I could get it to boot again.
Luckily I could still get the boot screen and I found this (stock?) 5.3 Rom.
"MioP550 - Osc260A R05_P09.nb0"
It formatted and loaded - although with error messages. (I thought at that point I was getting me a paper-weight)
But I turned the power switch off/on and after a few it was back and working.
I still want to try an upgrade but I'm now waayyy more leary than I was at first.

I now have Crashoverheads' 6.1 rom installed and I really like it.
Seems that to just power off and on after the update is the way to go. (I previously tried the soft and hard boot with the up and down toggle.)
It gives me my 4 gig too!
If you find that the entries on SDHC disappear look in file directory and you will find several listings for storage cards. (Just click and it's back.)

Hello, yes of course you can use it. P350 is based on the same architecture. You will choose only different memory type in SJF2440 menu (I think K9F1G08). There also could be more possibilities for this memory type in menu (as Save Block To File – for example you can use it for saving content of Block 0 – bootloader section to file, Erase entire memory). When you also follow tutorial on site onyx.motronik.com.pl/mio/ you can’t make mistake.

Hello, I need some help.
I'm trying to install 6.1 on my P550. I can't use the SD-card option because I have no SD card reader to put the files on it or a non-SDHC 8Gb SD card.
But when I connect via USB Windows detects the P550, the P550 itself still says "Waiting for download… Cable not connected."
When trying USB>Transmit in dnw.exe it says "Can't open USB device."
Rx Test gives "Error: can't receive data from the USBD".
I installed the 3 drivers via right-click install (wceusbsh.inf / secbulk.inf / giveio.inf)
DNW setting have USB Port Download Address at "0x3000000".
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is? And more pressing, how to fix it?
Thanks
EDIT: Never mind, I intalled the drivers a different way and it worked.

I asked a number of questions about my Mio P550 from March 2010 onwards.
All the problems were solved by Mio fitting a new motherboard free of charge … it seems it had been faulty from the start.
It has been running perfectly for more than a year and used most days.
I still have it on Windows Mobile 5 with the following programs/applications loaded.
Windows Mobile 5
P550_DVT_R05_P11_PATCH
.NET Compact Framework 3.5 Redistributable
Mio Maps
Tom Tom 7
Microsoft E Reader
S2U2 (Slide to Unlock)
S2V (Slide to View)
TCPMP Video Player
Resco Explorer 2008
SPB Time
Close Sudoku
On a 2GB SD Card … FAT32
Several Video clips
Da Vinci Code full length feature film
Spreadsheets

You don't have the battery drain problem?
Even though I have the Power patch and the "Active Sync work around" it still drains battery unless I use the OFF switch, but then the date and time will be reset.
Running CrashOverhead's 6.1 English version (with a little French) battery drain seems slightly less with this version but still remains. Never heard of P560 users with the battery drain problem so I guess it's a hardware flaw in P550?
Cheers and Happy 2012!

History.
Right from the start, if you turned mine off using only the front button and later turned it back on, nothing would happen.
In order to be able to turn it on “instantly” you had to turn the slider OFF when you had finished. Turning the slider on, later, it would start from the green and white screen with the wrong time and date, but otherwise OK.
If you forgot turn the slider off, then tried and failed with the front button it wasn’t a simple matter of just operating the slider to get it back in action – it had to be left for a while with the slider off before it would re-start.
Otherwise it worked normally until I had the screen freezing problem, which coincided with installing TT7 among others.
You don't have the battery drain problem?
From a battery point of view mine has no problems at all.
Which is strange considering this …
During the freezing up stage I bought and fitted a new 1230mAh battery which made no difference.
When Mio agreed to carry out the repair I understood fitting your own replacement battery was frowned upon so I replaced the old one prior to mailing.
The P550 was returned in December 2010 with a new motherboard and the same original battery. It has worked perfectly since. I charged it about 4 or 5 days ago and have used it for about 15/30 minutes each day since … the battery meter is showing 96%.
Three Mio’s were bought together and I have one of the others on my desk supposedly bringing it up to the same standard as mine for a relation. From fully charged in the evening it’s down to 75% by morning and 60% by lunchtime and maybe 40 or 50% by dinner time … without using it … just turning it on to check the battery.
I stopped ActivSync, installed the power patch and fitted the “new” battery I mentioned earlier … it’s gone down 10% while I’ve been typing this.
There must be something going on while it’s turned off that has been solved on mine by Mio … either simply changing the motherboard or some other action they took at the same time.

I had a P350 a few years ago and found that all wi-fi and gps .bluetooth had to be turned off in order for the battery to last any reasonable time with the gps the highest user of power it should always be off except when navigating of course.

Thanks for the reply; I understand what you’re saying but I always make a point of stopping all "running programs" prior to closing down.
Is there any further control over whether GPS etc is running?

Sounds great! I would like to contact the same Mio service as you did since my contact with Mio resulted in NO ACTION TAKEN for my P550.
I assume flashing a newer firmware to the motherboard should solve this as well, but I don't know where to get one and since flashing to CrashOverhead´s WM 6.1 didn't solve the problem I am not sure...

With regard to Customer Service at Mio … we had bought three P550’s at once so were able to prove that one of them was different to the others in that it wouldn’t restart when solely relying on the front button. It had been faulty from the start.
I’m sure they would do the same for anyone if they paid for it … but the cost is more than the machine is worth :(
I’m going to ask them about the battery drain problem … I’ll let you know.

History … I have two P550’s on my desk … one working perfectly (The motherboard was changed 12 months ago) and the other draining the battery … both were bought at the same time.
In my email to Mio I pointed out the battery is the same age as mine and been used a lot less and that other people are having the same problem.
The questions I asked were …
What did you do to mine to solve the battery problem?
Was it changing the motherboard?
How much would you charge?
Whatever you did, would it work for every P550 and bring it to the same as mine.
The Answer
From checking the last repair notes the motherboard was replaced. So it may have a different charging circuit and later firmware loaded.
To replace this would be around £70

Hello,
I want to install WM_6.1_English_v2.1_MioP350-P550_by_CrashOverHead.7z on my Mio P550 (old WM 5.0)
Is this rom the last English stable version?
Is it possible to make a backup with WM 5.0? How?
These steps are enough?
Thanks
