hey
mustafin, the SIP client you have which is in russian, could you please upload it to here so that perhaps someone can work on translating it into english
how does it work? does it allow you to use your sp5 as a voip handset through your existing voip account?
thanx

Sure, it's in french, but I bet you can use it for any WM smartphone. Do a google search, it's supposed to work on the Tornado.

personally, I've been using SJphone for Pocket PC, but ripped out the needed files and ran it on my SP5m.
It works well, but the interface is awkward since it was designed for a touch screen.
Has anyone found anything that works well and was designed for smartphone?

Still looking for sip client for my sp5m. I installed Skype (not sip) and its working great. However, I would like to tap a sip client to our VOIP system we have at wrok.
SJ Labs - Did not releas one yet
All other I saw, are asking you to connect to a pre-define SIP server
Any help/tip is welcome.

I have GoSIP but again it's a french client
I tried to get it form their site, but it seems that they want me to download it in stages through SMS (my french is rusty, but that's what it looks like).
Do you have the complete .exe or something that I could try?

Skype works for me
Hey Acsguitar.
I think you're missing the point here...
Sure, you can have skype call a landline for a fee, and even have your own incoming number for another fee... But those of us who already have a regular VoIP-based landline phone number (such as with vonage or broadvoice) can call through their already existing service using their already existing number with the proper SIP compatible softphone.
I am able to take my home number with me when I travel using SJphone, but because it doesn't have a smartphone version, the interface is a bit buggy when you run it. I'm looking for something smoother.

Try WengoMobile, I have found it useful thus far.

Hey Guys
Been using this Software from Peer 2 Phone for a while now and it works fine with my Voiptalk account, only downside is you have to ask them very nicely for it on an individual basis, and then they E-Mail it to you, there website address is: http://www.peer2phone.com/telephony.html
Hope you all have the success that I have with this SIP client, happy Hunting chaps,
Kind Regards Ashe

You have to E-Mail them for the software, I am sorry I respect peoples software rights, I am just a bit ethical that way, however they will not have a problem, in fact they will be more that delighted to send you the software if you E-Mail them,

For your information, GoSip = Peer2Phone = same softphone. GoSip=Wingman was released by Peer2Phone in 2006 and is freeware (in light version).
What I understood so far: when you mail Peer2Phone to get a free copy, you get a full version if you asked on behalf of a company or an operator. If you're just a consumer, they send you the URL to download gosip light: website is in english now and the software in english is available for download.
I'm using it, nice software, nice GUI :) , several probs though,
a/ I cannot call WiFi(VoIP) with the regular ear speaker! always handsfree speaker. the prob doesn't occur when calling in "cellular" mode
b/ no video call button & no smartdial in the gosip GUI
c/ heavyweight sofware: takes almost 8MB in RAM
if you guys want to try: www.go-sip.com
Cheers

anyone had any good experience with gosip on their device?
I tried it, and it felt like a hostile takeover of my phone. It practically froze the thing on reboot.
I like the concept behind skype and SJphone PPC, where you can open and run the software when needed, and close it completely when not.
Sadly, SJphone isn't available on smartphone, and Skype's calls are not stable when calling in from outside (skypein has terrible echo, everyone hangs up on me).
any other options, or is Go-Sip worth trying again?
There's hardly any talk about it...

The problem with Fring is that it currently doesn't support DTMF key tones, which means if you want to receive a call from GrandCentral, where you must press 1 to accept the call, you cannot do so. The call comes in, but you can't accept it because pressing 1 does nothing.
I was able to use GoSIP with my Gizmo SIP account and receive calls through GrandCentral, so I recommend that method. It responds to key presses just fine.
WM6 has SIP support nicely built in allowing VOIP calls to come in just like regular calls (using existing address book) but of course that means dealing with the buggy nature of the cooked ROMs available here.
I have used Skype on my T-Mobile SDA (US) without problem. Unfortunately I can't justify using it anymore when I can get a free incoming VOIP number using GrandCentral and SIP through Gizmo.

You can always keep the stable WM5 version! :D:D:D

I have considered that! I do like WM6 though, and I'm looking forward to trying out your new ROM you have in the works. ;)
