View Full Version : SMS BG/Font Customization

_TB_TB_
20th September 2006, 01:28 PM
What do you think about this? There are MANY elements that can be changed in SMS/mail forms, since they are html - based ones...

http://bodz.elsat.net.pl/sms1.jpg http://bodz.elsat.net.pl/sms2.jpg

Note, that the vertical scroll bar is hidden, until it is needed;)

The bg images can be independently changed for write and read of messages...

Edit:
There is a test bg included as an attachment - only the background is changed in SMS window. You can replace the default image, it is \windows\sms_bg.gif
You can modify the fonts, etc by editing \windows\read_style2.css and \windows\compose_style2.css

xan

\Windows\compose_sms is the file....

_TB_TB_
20th September 2006, 07:38 PM
Really?;)
read_sms.html also. As well as compose_style.css and read_style.css ;)

xan

yea XD
how to get rid of scrollbars?

_TB_TB_
20th September 2006, 10:08 PM
Remove all the

near to the end of the file :)

The one thing that I can't yet figure is object.richedit font size/background :/ (SMS text input field)

_TB_TB_
22nd September 2006, 10:09 AM
Simple HTML:
Just create an image similar in size to this: http://bodz.elsat.net.pl/girl1.gif (240x265)

Modify the < body > tag to make it < body background="file://pathtoimage" bgproperies="fixed"> and voila;)

Hi
I have tried this,
Copied the file to PC editted them and when i copied them back I get the 'Access is denied' Error message,

I think those files a protected & Hidden system files when on PC, any way of getting around this?

_TB_TB_
22nd September 2006, 04:58 PM
Yes, yes - bgproperties, not bgproperies :)

You should REPLACE the < body > tag with < body background="file://\image.gif" bgproperties="fixed" >

Use Total Commander ON your PPC to change attributes (un-check read-only)

bigsteve
22nd September 2006, 05:57 PM
i have tried that, but the attribute is re-ticked when the properties are shown again.

1. Extract all files in the packed attachment below to your SD Card,
2. Then use Windows Explore or Resco Explore copy them to Windows directory on your device.
3. There will be some notifications that "...blablabla... might damage your windows" Pass over it, tap on OverWrite.
4. Return to your SMS Inbox, you'll see......

Hey _TB_TB_

Thanks for this simple tweak my exec is now much nicer when composing and reading sms,i notice that my exec is a little slow when composing sms but its tolerable, did you experience this _TB_TB_. i think the bgproperties="fixed" doesnt work because when im scrolling the image scrolls too. do you have any other image you can share. i use my exec always in landscape mode and i edit your image to fit my exec screen. attached is my screenshot.

To bigsteve.

Just copy your read_sms.htm to your sd card using resco explorer then edit the properties of that file uncheck the system, hidden, read only so you can edit it in your pocketpc or desktop using notepad. then copy it back to your windows directory in your pocktpc using Activesynch overwrting the orginal read_sms.htm (make sure you have a backup for futere preferences, also copy the gif you created mine i name it sms.gif )i used this line:

<body background="file://\windows\sms.gif" bgproperties="fixed">

erase all the

near to the end of the file so that there will be no scrollbar

Kindly see attached pictures. I type my name all the way down but didint see any problem on my margin. the only problem is when composing a large amount of text, the image is overlap by the text. you can see it on the my screenshot were its been overlap. i think you've erase something in your compose_sms.htm. mine are all woking perfectly.

Can anybody post a tribal like image, like the one posted by _TB_TB_

Again thanks to _TB_TB_

this is a welcome change. are there other images to "play" with?

_TB_TB_
27th September 2006, 08:49 AM
Well basically you can put the images anywhere you want using pathtoimage , you can chnge the layout of the read/compose forms, eg. you can have the FROM field at the bottom, the contact picture somewhere in the background, etc... I'll try to make a CAB as soon as I get back from school - around 2pm CET ;)

I've tried this code and test it on a pc and the background image became fixed when i scrolled it, but after I place it on my ppc, the image is gone. Do you think wm5 doesn't support css style in html? Can we upgrade the html driver of the ppc?

Your work is not forgotten _TB_TB_

I have a view tips for you:

The background image should have a size overall 320x265 so you can use it on landscape too.

Its better to use a white background, so you don't need to adjust the stylesheet for the text color.

Change the DPI to 96 else 72.

Don't use GIF's, 24-bit PNG's looks better on the BA and the size of the images is not much more as a GIF.

it's possible to use different background images for read and compose sms.

I have a Q9 WM6 and I managed to successfully change the read_style_409.css and get the fonts in the view message window to look nice and small. Anybody figure out which of the CSS/HTML files need to be edited to shrink the font in the outlook message list. I can only see 4 message headers at a time and by shrinking that font it would be a lot like my old Treo.

What are all the template numbers for (why 10 versions of read_style_xxx.css)?

Hi
I have tried this,
Copied the file to PC editted them and when i copied them back I get the 'Access is denied' Error message,

I think those files a protected & Hidden system files when on PC, any way of getting around this?

I have the same problem and i do know the reason. Unfortunatelly in some devices (like i.e. ours) these files are included in ROM. That's why on these devices there is no possibility to edit them nor delete them. :(

this works quite well for composing SMS.

may i know how to change the readSMS font size using a registry editor?

thanks!

got it to work now. and there's no need to use the registry editor.

even if the read_style.css is hardcoded in the ROM, resco file explorer is able to let me rename it to a file with a .txt extension, remove the read-only/hidden/system properties, edit the file to change the font sizes, and rename it back to read_style.css to overwrite the existing one.

i use a font size of 14pt. much easier to read the messages.
