Actually, you can do this without resetting your device - AND without replacing the original sounds as well. Just throw any ol' .wav file (yes, ANY ol' wav file - even a converted full song - but see CAUTION) into the /windows/ folder, and you will be able to choose it as one of the possible sounds to play on an event.
Yes, I'd have to do it one by one in my case - but the only sound I ever change is the SMS recieve one anyway. I don't have any other system sounds on to save battery power.
It's similar to putting mp3s directly into the windows/rings folder and having it playable/selectable as a ringtone. No need for wierd unzipping stuff.
CAUTION: Sure, you can put a .wav file of any length into an event in your PPC phone, but be aware that THERE IS NO WAY TO STOP THE WAV FILE FROM PLAYING TO THE END! If you set the full Monty Python Spam Song as your SMS recieve event (like I did) the song won't cancel when you acknowledge the message! Use only short .wav clips, please. This is for your battery life and the sanity of the people around you.

i think you're right, but i don't think that playing such short sound clips takes much of the battery life
anyway i wanted to replace the orginal ones just to save memory or what do you think :?:

... the Spam song is like >1min long, which is why I mentioned battery life - it's like playing your MP3 player at full volume. If you're an SMS junkie... <_<
Sure, go ahead and replace the originals if you want to save memory.
