i got an OEM car charger for the O2 Exec and it does not seem to functiona as expected. here's why:

- when the o2 exec is turned on (either running a navigation program or not) and the car charger is plugged in, the o2 exec would not charge.

- when the o2 exec is turned off and the car charger is plugged in, the o2 exec can finally charge. however when i start a navigation program, it would show that it is charging but the battery capacity does not increase and after a while, the unit will automatically switch off after a while. while on battery the unit does not turn off automatically after some time.

is there a problem with my car charger or is this normal for all car chargers? is there any way to solve it?

all help rendered is much appreciated.

I've had very mixed results with twelve different models of aftermarket car and mains chargers for the Exec.
The models that list their output at about 550mA seem to exhibit the troubles you mention - you need to switch on the Exec after the charger is working and even then with a high drain their output is not enough to power and charge the Exec at the same time.
The models rated as 1A output seem able to power the Exec and charge it at the same time. The o2 supplied mains charger is rated at 1A.
I've seen similar things with computer USB ports, especially laptops.

Thanks astage for your input.

The thing with the car charger that I have is that it is actually rated at 1000mA or 1A and thus I thought it should not pose such a problem. But apparently it does. Is there any way for me to check what is the exact output for the car charger? I am kinda alien to electronics and circuits board.

The thing is that You ll have to get special charging USB cable. I was trying 4 cables and finally 5th was working - it was cable for xda-2. Try it for Yourself.
It have something to do with wiring 5th line - normall usb cable have 4 lines connected.
Aha - one more thing - Your original Universal cable wont work ...

Could you tell me where you bought it? Was it an online shop or a physical shop?
