Universal goes to standby mode with Wi-Fi turned on, then I switch the device on, and it starts trying to register in Wi-Fi net forever (shows "tower" but without circle and rays)

Sometimes when I close Comm Manager device draws only upper part of screen and hangs, but if you wait for about half minute, it returns to life
I have this errors too...
Can i fix this or wait for next beta?

Contacts/tapping any contact/Menu/Save to SIM. The last item namely "Save to SIM" is not available (grey color, not black). Looks it's necessary to change a value somewhere in registry, but I did not manage to find what and where.

Does some1 face such problem? Or there is a solution the problem? Does this bug exists in beta8?

Before I commence with B8 can you advise if you are intending an EXTROM from the SD card like Tuma did on BAs?

If so, are we able as yet (say without an EXTROM) to repartition out the EXTROM after unhiding & unlocking? (like the various partitioning tools we used on the BA)

SPB Backup is supposed to support restores for ROM upgrades - is this so when upgrading from an O2 Exec release ROM to one of your betas?

Sorry for the misunderstanding, SK Tools does work on my device, I just meant that after using the trial of PM, I uninstalled it and carried on using SKTools :oops:

henk-jan: Are you using version 2.xx of Pocket Mechanic, or are you still using version 1.xx? Perhaps the latest version might work if you're having problems? And if you're using version 2, make sure you use the "Static" version, not the "Dynamic" one...

indeed the download-link of beta9 is wrong. just remove the little 'c' after the beta9 and it should work. or just go manually to the ftp-site in the respective directory and voilá, the beta9 update appears :-)

Your ROM version from beta4 to beta8, I have installed to my PDA (O2 Exec), It works very good. But when I open the setting phone to change the ringtone from default to my favorite ringtone, it was *Midi type of ringtone. My machine can not reads this type of music file. Please advise for me the version beta9, can it uses the ringtone for phone on type *midi music?

I miss though button 4 separate tap / hold assignments. Use to put voice command on tap & used hold for the record function. Any way to reinstate?

People with camera problems, try www.ateksoft.com and see if that works.
Maybe there is different hardware versions? Coolcamera does not use the built in software, I think.. Just curious.. Thats all.

Darn. Beta 10 is not working for me. Not sure why. But could it be because I have no SD card in there? Immediately after it does all those .cab installs, and it shows me the Today main screen, it's locked up. The screen won't respond and the power button won't either. Backlight does not work either. So I did a hard reset and upon boot up it tells me a certain file is missing... ssdaemon.exe. Then it's responding, but I don't think that's good. I tried reinstalling it all from scratch a 2nd time too, same thing. Is there a way to fix that one file? It says something about not being trusted / restoring it. But I wonder if it would have a problem with another file after that?

I eliminated the need of a extrom because all settings are ready to work. There is no need to tweak anything anymore to get the full functionality. This is the reason why it isn't needed anymore.


Regarding the bug elimination:

If you use a special cab file and do not see a error someone mentioned please post your observations and if you can the cab file which solved your problems.

Got a question, basically to Ivan:

I have a perfectly well running Universal with Beta 8.

Contains more or less all I need:
- CF2 installed on SD Card (Beta Version 2.1 allows that). Does Beta 10 have this version also ? Saves quite some space in memory (although of course there are still some GAC Files in memory)
- I don't care about all the Voice things
- well working jmm
- all my other apps running w/o problems (WA2, PBreeze, iLauncher, Pocketweather, WeatherPanel, SKTools, Tweaks2K2, Resco, Opera, Netfront, FlexMail07, PI07, egress, PocketPlayer, TCPMP, etc. etc.)

Therefore: what can I get in addition when upgrading to Beta 10 ?

Hi Ivan,

great work regarding Beta 10! A few comments:

The new Wi-Fi has the enroller functionality included, so potentially you can remove the "Enroller" from the Programs Menu.

Same is true for the Wireless Modem - I am using the Internet Sharing now, which is probably the way to do it in the future WM releases. So you can remove that as well...

I am using various GPS programs, so it would be nice if you'd unhide the GPS control in the "Settings", but maybe that's just me...

Net CF 2.0 SP1 is integrated into the rom

I think we should have 2 versions: 1 with and 1 without CF 2.0 SP1.
That would be VERY useful for people who want to install CF 2.0 on the SD Card. Otherwise, we would have to delete CF 2 aber flashing and then re-install it again.
Or even better: make it a (separate) CAB

I believe it's slightly faster and more responsive than beta 8.
still having some problems with bluetooth stereo headsets, with a fair bit of stuttering, for some reason more than the 'official ROM' releases. regular bluetooth headset working fine.

Well, I've been messing around with nk.nbf, and I've found that adding the 'missing' dll's which were in Beta 9 means you get back your video calling. So that'll be easy enough for Ivan to fix ;) No idea which one is the important one as yet, and I have to go out now so I won't be playing around again until tomorrow. Sorry.

I've also managed to add in the files and registry settings from "BCHS107.ARMV4_mod.CAB" which adds the extra bluetooth profiles, but when I open the bluetooth settings screen for the first time, the stupid security message pops up to ask if I trust the .dll - someone please tell me how to 'sign' the file. (As you can tell, I'm only a noob at this ROM editing thing!).

BTW, those .dll's I added back, which got the video calling working again were:
all the "elate" .dll's
outputfilter_dll.dll
MediaPicker.dll
DPadMenu.dll
ContactsPicker.dll

In the last days I was so desperate with my Beta8.
I wasn't installing extra apps for a while, but my device stability was going down, down,... also softreset issue became a nightmare.
The phone HW buttons were not working liable anymore.
Pressing green button switches off device. At second attempt it was Ok.
Answered a call, but device didn't react properly anymore and getting more and more unstable.
Phone switching loud on/off spontaneously during a call...

Downgraded to AKU2 and problems gone, inclusive the softreset. At least I was able to conclude that it was not an HW issue :-)

Now I'm with Beta10 and didn't installed any extra SW at all.
Lets see how it behaves and evolves or degrades during next weeks.

I fell Ivan is making a remarkable work and effort, but only was able to put his hands into an intermediate development AKU3.2 OS build (15605 always the same). So we are going to have the same instabilities for a while, despite several hacks and adds may get available in the meantime.

In my deepest dreams, I even feel sometimes the M$ is behind the scenes making us all beta testers with our loved and powerful toys...
Sorry if I can't control my dreams, but I do not intend to offend anybody.

Found this version of SIM Manager version 5.22 somewhere in the net, it contains lots of new functions like transferring contacts to SIM, managing contacts from SIM, Hope this helps!

Since Beta 10, I never (twice, two 11 and 11 upgrades) was able to get out of bootloader mode after upgrading, without needing t use mtty :-/

At least my softreset issue, seems to have gone, since Beta 10 :-)

Since I installed your Beta 4 of AKU 3,2 my MDA was fast as hell. Never seen such a speed on it.

Beta 8 although didn't work at all how it should. Now I switched to Beta 11 and it works for now (since 30-40 minutes) great, but if I kept the old ExtROM and let it install I get a lot of Problems (for example the message with the sddcontrol.exe or something like that).

Well, I reseted again and didn't install the ExtROM. Everything's fine so far, EXCEPT: My SpeedDial (the most important App for me and my nearly 800 Contacts) is GONE (well, I know it's in ExtROM).

Could you add it to the normal ROM or create one with just a few apps?
TotalCMD Pocket, SpeedDial and perhaps IrfanView? Or just SpeedDial, or where can I download it?

I think it depends on radio version ruther than AKU ROM version. Try last radio update 1.13. You can get it on xda ftp.

1. GPRS connection icon still showing "G" instead of "U" when UMTS is connected.
2. Sometimes, programs cannot be actuated....just no response...a soft reset is required.
3. Sometimes, when in suspension mode (switch off automatically to save power), you cannot activate the device unless a soft reset.
4. Sometimes, when restart from suspension mode, the previously connected wifi cannot retain. You have to switch off and on again for reconnecting.

everything working ok here with beta 11 for the most part. dont appear to be having some probkems others are...

HOWEVER, my previously reported bug is still present, where the phone 'loses connectivity with the radio'.....

I upgraded the radio to 1.13 on upgrade this time, from 1.10.03 and it happens on both...

Hello Ivan, I just installed beta 11 and can confirm that push mail works. Does seem to be a little slower than usual but I tested only one message.
I also updated to radio 1.13 and my radio problems seem to be over. Off to work now, so I keep my fingers crossed :-)

Install your VGA applications on the phone not on an sd card. That seems to work for me.

although the ms software does have some advantages, you do not have to tag all your contacts in cyberon. this is optional, and i don't find helps very much.
when both are working, i find the ms software more powerful, but the cyberon, is more reliable in starting up from the headset.

is the smartdialing feature is when you are trying to make a phone call and you are typing the phone number the system starts to pick up the names for you....

After upgrading the ROM you shuld do HR by holding the 2 - buttons and reset.
what you are doing by holding power and light button and reset is exactly the way to enter into bootloader status.

I think stuttering because hardware. It's the same with all AKU2, All AKU3 beta. With 1.30.77 (I-mate), 1.30.115 (T-mobile) and beta 3 to beta 9, I neadn't install Zoki A2DP. When you upgrade new bt driver, I must to Install.
I think that Stammer depends on distance, wireness power and audio format (bit rate, audio sample size, audio sample rate) to send by BT.
If you increase bit rate, distance is decrease and stammer is increase.

I think you are basically right.
It's why when at home I stream music from my home computer to my wireless headphone, using a bluetooth 2.0 dongle, and Bluesoleil. Much easier and greater range.
However, I think driver software plays a part as well. Some roms have less stutter than others and you can achieve a higher bit rate and quality. (you can change the registry for this rate, as discussed elsewhere in these forums).

I must be the odd one out? Early Betas eg 8 were brilliant - stable and fast, but 11,12 on my MDA pro keeps freezing. If I try running PocketMusic it doesn't run and just freezes the PDA??? Very odd. I guess I'll go back to an earlier ROM as my Mototola headphones and pocket music worked flawlessly!?!

Just wanted to chime in and say I've been watching this ROM with much interest since it was first announced in the old thread. I finally decided today that it's progressed enough for me to use so I took the plunge. I'm still getting all of my apps reinstalled but so far I'm very impressed!

One thing I will say though, is in the third post that mentions a working VGA mode, please make mention that the SDKCerts from that site must be installed for it to work properly! Took me a lot of messing about to figure that one out!

With that said though, much thanks to Ivan and co for getting the ROM this far. I can't wait to see the final product!

Edit: A question... The changelog says there's a new MMS client in this ROM, but how do I get to it? The normal place for viewing and configuring MMS settings has nothing so I'm a bit stumped.

I'm testing Ivan Roms since beta 6 and I've always several problem on the phone.

Often (2/3 time per day) it hangs and it's impossible to make any call. I've tried to switch of /on the phone but the only solution is a soft reset.

I've upgraded Radio Rom from 1.04 to 1.11 without any result.

Obliviously when it happens the direct Push connection stop to synchronize with my exchange server.

Anyone else has got a similar problem?

Yes, in the original thread I detailed exactly that problem....several others experience it to different degrees....it seems people who have data active a lot experience it most (push email, you and me)

I've try ROM Beta12 for these 2 days.
Before I use Beta8, I feel B12 not fast as B8... Don't know why.. A2DP running well, another thing is .. BRIGHTNESS LEVEL when you doing a VIDEO CALL... the Image of brightness level looks not to good... I think image file of it is broken...

My jabra fs250 cant work under beta 12,it can talk but the talk key doesn't work .I have to push the talk key of d900.

Ｉ got the same problem ...seems the battery icon not working well.
This rom fixed my bigest problem - once press the answer button in standby mode,don't need to wait 15seconds for the phone dial shows up

Yes, I have the exact same issues... You are not the only one, there are more people. However, so far we have not been able to find a reason for this behaviour.

I had this in beta 8 (& on the standard O2 ROMs of old) but not now in beta 12.

I haven't changed any reg settings for this (other than those required for VGA & VJ Big Phone), is there are replacement dialler skin that has this & why has this been dropped out of beta 12 ?

This makes using the phone a real pain in the neck .......

Otherwise, still happy with AKU3.2

I had the same problem and tried the same solution posted heredown by Perazzi.
Anyway there is a funciton missing. the one taht allows you dialing by double tapping the name you want.

Just upgrade to beta 12. Just having one problem. after a soft reset i looase the wireless card. software still shows that it is there, but doesnt turn on. when turning it on and the do a soft reset the wireless will remain after soft reset. Any one else having a problem ?

I don't know what you did Ivan but I'm finding these latest Betas extremely fast and stable. My machine has never run as fast. They do have these minor bugs as are being reported in some moduels, but the main os is working very smoothly.
One thing I've found: I've been trying to use Spb Backup rather than re-install everything. After 2 betas, the system doesn't work well with that. Not sure why. Maybe Sprite Backup would work better?
I would suggest to people who are having odd problems to do clean re-installs.
In any case, I have the clean re-install down to a fast art, but it would still be nice to have a back up program that could do it.

I have installed the latest AKU3.2 and i have the HT820 Motorola Headset the buttons to control pause, next and previous seem to not be working. Does anyone have the same problem and if so does anyone have a fix?

I agree, but FWIW, Sprite Backup has a facility for just an eventuality. My view is it's probably worth a try, and if it doesn't appear to work properly, you simply hard reset, and install from scratch anyway. Looks like a no-lose situation.

Well on upgrading to Beta12 I found my MDA Pro to be very sluggish and prone to freezing. Plus my HT820 headset didn't work anymore with mediaplayer etc!?

I went back to Beta 9 and loaded Radio 1.13 and all is fine again, fast speeds, no freezes and the headset works fine with PocketMusic (which would not run on Beta12)....

I think it's because the phone now boots so fast that the storage card hasn't had a chance to initialize before the program tries to read the icons. In Pocket Plus you can hold down each icon and choose "Change Icon", by this time the storage card will have initialized and the correct icon will be the first choice you're given.

It's a bit of a hassle to do it after every boot but until SPB make a feature to delay icon reading it's all we can do other than installing everything to the device.

Do I have to put my device in bootloader first in order to flash the new Rom?
like I do when I want to flash a new Radio Rom. before Universal I had mda vario and i did not have to put it in bootloader mode to flash a new rom.

I bought my device simlocked, but somone told me to use it anyways so it will set the CID in superCID mode, and then i could flash it, i did it, but still can't flash new aku3.2 I get the country ERRORcode 120 when i use the MaUpgradeUt_noId.exe i get and error this rom utility is not compliant with yor device or something like that... somebody knows the answer to this?!?!

Yes, put it in bootloader mode and you should be fine. for clarity check the universal wki for detailed instructions.

First of all, I'd like to thank Ivan for these releases. It's great to put them on my uni and play around with them. For the most part, I have to say they're great! This forum has been great in giving advice when things go wrong, but the instructions for trying out new things are usually pretty clear and thorough to minimize problems in the first place. Good job and thank you to everyone.

Now, here's the point I kind of want to make. Sorry if this has already been said, but here goes.

I'm not exactly too sure about the policies that go on between MS and the manufacturers and distributors (i-mate, etc) but it's quite a shame when someone like a private user/developer such as Ivan can sit down to work on these AKU updates and a professional manufacturer that sells and services its products does not really work to develop these things. As an i-mate JasJar owner, I'm still waiting for the promised AKU 2.2 update. Can I even expect i-mate to release an official AKU 3.2 update anytime soon in the near future? I doubt it.

Like I said, I'm not exactly aware of what goes on in the process to make these AKU's officially released, but I just think it's ridiculous when I have to resort to unofficial releases to get the latest MS officially releases updates to its software... and by this I mean NO OFFENSE what so ever to Ivan. As far as I'm concerned, he's the only person that is really speaking out against this by creating these ROM updates himself.

Anyway, that's enough ranting. I love this forum and what it stands for.. the freedom to use our hardware as we please.

Hi there jacquie,

Beta 12 doesn't have the Radio rom included - I would guess this is to reduce the time it takes to update if you have already updated your Radio ROM

If you wanted to run a Radio update at the same time as installing Beta 12, you would need to grab the latest radio_.nbf and put it in the same folder as the rest of the AKU update, then the Radio ROM would be upgraded.

The D 2.50.00 tells me you've sucessfully installed the Beta 12 update, so if you do want to just update the Radio ROM, grab it from the XDA FTP, rename nk_.nbf (so that you don't have to wait for the Beta 12 to install itself again) then run the upgrade utility as before and you should find that your Radio ROM gets updated.

I tried beta12 on my Universal and that, what I found:

1. Wi-Fi doesn't support WPA2 authentication and Wi-Fi Multimedia (or Wi-Fi Quality of Service), but in AKU3.2 it is suppose to be;
2. No SMS via GPRS support
3. No Bluetooth FTP profile
4. No Speed Dial

I disagree ! Just put the bare minimum into the ROM, to keep it small, clean and fast. Bugfixes should of course go into the ROM but not features that not everybody needs or wants

I have an error in my new OCZ Dual 80X. After booting the device doesn't recohnize the the card and the message "Do you want to try formating storage card to make it readable?" appears. When I select yes, the device hangs, and if no, the card will not appear in the file explorer or can access any file on it unless reinserting it again. I have upgraded with latest Orange rom, and reformated the card with Anton tomove pocket mechanic and worked very nice, but when i upgraded again with Ivan's beta 12, the proplem reappear, even tried the pocket mechanic again but with no success. Any help?

i am using beta 12 and i found a problem. It is with connectivity gprs. I use universal as umts modem. When i use gprs on uni and after i run wireless modem, it give me error such as close data connection. But i dont know how.must reset uni to start wireless modem. thanks for help

Ivan, Please put the bluetooth patch for ftp. It's only 100kb so it won't make the rom larger or slower. And one questions: Which skin does your rom use? Is it Microsoft's default ot some operator's skin? And is the bootsplash still O2's one?

With Ivan's great work, I have almost 10 Mb empty space in the extended-rom. I have a SD card so I don't really need storage space. Any suggestion whether there are ways for me to utilize this 10Mb to improve on the Universal's performance?

Just unlocking it requires some Ram usage... Looking for ways to better use of the extended-rom.

in the times of the BA, there used to be a utility to repartition the Extended rom. Thus making it as small as 128Kb and allowing the rest of unused extrom to be given to the Storage... I wonder if such tool would work on the Universal.
