Can I add my own icon on the menubar?

I have added an icon on taskbar to show a status, but after I open some apps. it hide some words. I tried to use SHNotificationAdd, but the left softkey of today screen becomes notification. I give up.

Can I add icon on menubar?

I tried to find window MS_SOFTKEY_CE_1.0 and create a static on it, then in home screen it will be OK.
But in other application I should add new one.
Is there a way to add once and it shown in every toolbar?

I have seen a DELL ppc with querty keyboard show the key state on the menu bar. How did they do?
