Caveat: I am unfamiliar with the ideosyncracies of Windows Mobile in this area...

As the Universal only has a limited amount of storage space, I have been storing pretty much everything on a 4Gb SD card. What I'm wondering is, when it comes to large video files, it takes roughly 1000 years to transfer across using the ActiveSync pipe. Will it bollux anything up if I simply take the SD card out of the slot and copy the video file over into the appropriate directory, or does WM need to do some weird-ass magic when it does a transfer via ActiveSync?

Thanks,

Doug

I have never had a problem with this. It is the only way to move large files across. Give a try.

It will work. My only recommendation is that you create a separate folder called "movies" to keep your sd card tidy. Or that may just be my OCD talking!

Thanks, all.

And hey, you want OCD behavior, take a look at my follow-up post on the TCPMP thread. That's OCD, baby!

Suggest that you install the free wm5storage application on your PDA then you can transfer files between your PDA & PC without using Activesync, its a lot quicker.

You should find a link on this site.

Will do. Thanks, Mike.

See; that's what's driving me crazy about Window Mobile vs. Palm. While there were a number of applications on PalmOS that were nice to have, it pretty much comes out of the box with everything that I needed. With WM, I am having to install a whole buncha apps just to get things running the way it seems they should ("You need to install Pocket Hack Master, and Magic Button, and WM5Storage, and . . ."). I have been spending the last couple of weeks installing and tweaking. It makes me nuts.

i use an SD to PCMCIA convertor on one of my laptops for 100's MB files, it's much faster than activesync/USB. for some reason though, on one of my PC's with a '5in1 USB adapter' it doesn't recognize the SD card filesystem (i never formatted them out of the box).

another thing, be careful when using the usb sync too much. i fouled up my battery because i used wm5torage heavily.. but im wiser now, i'll be getting an sd card with a usb adapter.. :)
