Link isn't valid anymore. However I know the Blackberry website has shown connect software for quite some time. I have yet to see it for a Smartphone however I know some people got it up and running on thier Wizards.

I am hoping someone find the bb connect for this device, especially since HTC has a track record for releasing a client for their devices. I have not seen BB connect for any wm5 smartphone device yet. I don't think it exists.

It would only install on a Moto MPx220 device running WM 2003 and gave a uncertified device error when I tried it on any other device. Any programmers out there want to give it a shot and change the cab file so it does not require a particular device to install on? I never did get it to work on my Cingular provided MPx220, but perhaps there was an app lock issue I wasn't aware of. I've learned a lot in the last few years about WM issues. If anyone would like to take this Cab apart with an app like CabWiz and rebuild it, we could all try this out on a WM 5.0 device, and see if we could get it to work.

Well, I was holding my breath, but I heard it is now released on the Dopod version, the C720, in Asia. This is huge. It shouldn't be long before we can pull that app off the Dopod ROM and use on any Dash, S620, or other HTC Excaliber model! If anyone has any updates, or gets their hands on this Dopod ROM, please post it here.

Got it installed on my Blackjack with no problems but alas, I have the Pending pin. There is a BB Connect dekstop software out there that will generate a pin for a bis account but I cant seem to find it. I even tried my Treo 750 desktop dsoftware but it wont work. We need a dekstop Software to generate the pin.

SP,

Perhaps you can show me how to get it done then.

I installed the software and connect the phone, then I got an unsuccessful connection error. I think the software is running (How do I verify it?) and it is connected to the desktop.

I wouldn't be asking questions if I had all the answers.

It's probably not supported, since it's not an excalibur type phone. Do you have blackberry service plan enabled on your sim card? If not, that may be it also.

Yes, I have Blackberry service enabled. If I pop the SIM card into my Cingular 8125 (aka HTC Wizard) my Blackberry services works. I stick it in the Qtek 8310 and nothing.

Why wouldn't the cab file work as the device is a WM5 smartphone?

It doesn't work like that. The blackberry client is usually locked to a particular model id of the phone and sometimes even the rom. When the blackberry client for the wizard for came out I remember I had to us an old tmobile uk rom in order to get it to work. I remember it was so slow and unstable, I hated it. I ended up getting read of the phone and going to a Nokia E61. Glad to be back to a windows mobile phone :)

I know, but I thought this was the "generic" version for smartphones and not one "locked" to a particular model.

Nope it's not generic, wish it was as I would have bought a blackjack instead of a dash so I could get some 3G action going. Edge is ok, but not fast enough for me.

Yup, that's the problem. The client is not compatible with the radio stack on the BlackJack. It would be nice if it gave an error message instead of just not generating the PIN. It never even attempts to connect to the Blackberry APN.

Hey guys,

Just done a quick surf around to see if this is available at all for Windows Mobile 5 devices.

I've just jumped onto a free Blackberry Enterprise Server and CALs offer from Blackberry, as they're promoting it for Lotus Domino at the moment, which is great.

So I have the server-side sorted out .... but I'm using an HP IPAQ 6920 device ... which runs Windows Mobile 5.0 ... and want to connect from there!

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Politely? :-)

Cheers for England,

What speculation? It has been confirmed it works on the Tmobile Dash and other HTC Excalibur variants. It does not work on other smartphones, just like other version of BB Connect for HTC phones. It will not work on a treo 700w, because they run windows mobile pocketpc edition. I know there is a version of BB Connect for the treo 750, you may want to give that a try. I doubt you can get Verizon to enable blackberry plan on a Treo 700w though.

I have it configured to use the BES server with my company, and have previously used BB Connect with my HTC TyTn, using the same WM desktop software for BB Connect. Here's the weird part, you had to have Activesync disabled(disable the USB Connections under Activesync), then launch the WM BB Connect software. Then, reactivate USB Connections under Activesync, immediately click back to the BB Connect desktop software, and click CONNECT right away. The Connect button should no longer be grayed out, and you can connect. Then, it asked me if I would like to generate a PIN(or in this case use the new PIN since I had the old one from my TyTn already in there, but the principal is the same). I said yes, moved my mouse around to generate a random new PIN, and there you go. I also had to disable the Calendar sync in Activesync before I could get the BES Calendar sync to work, but once I did that, smooth sailing baby! I tried to install this on the Cingular 3125 as well. No dice. I think it's Excaliber locked, which in this case is the Tmo DASH. Hey, it works, and I am a happy camper. Finally! I can actually save attachments and see them in more than just plain text! :-) Not everyone may have to do the weird hoop jumps I did to get the BB Connect Desktop client to get to the device, but it worked for me!

After installing the latest ROM update (with bootloader 1.09) I wasn't able to activate the calendar any more in the BB Software.
When the desktop client wants to provision it says it can not access the data store. I do not use calendar sync with Active Sync (only contacts).

By the way does anybody have experience installing the BB Service on The storage card to free some memory?

Is there any advantage of using the calendar sync on bb connect vs exchange activesync? I suspend bb connect off work hours and connect to exchange ota for syncing the calendar and contacts. Am I missing anything besides immediate syncing by not using bb connect calendar feature?

I guess to sorta answer my own question... exchange activesync brings over the private flag on my outlook calendar items. I have business and personal entries and share my calendar for work. I believe with BBC the private items don't come over to the desktop. That was the case when I was running PalmOS version.

Works great on Rogers here in Canada. Installed app on my flashed Dash, then contacted Rogers and had Blackberry added to my account. I told them I was using the Nokia N62 which uses Blackberry Connect as well (only it is designed for Symbian OS). For whatever reason, they are offering 7MB per month for $40 when using Blackberry Connect but only 2MB per month for $40when you use a RIM device!?? I am not complaining :)

Of course, to receive emails when tethered to the pc via the USB cable, I need to disable USB in ActiveSync to continue to receive emails (just like everyone else has reported)

Copy the .cab file to your HTC device. If you don't have an SD card installed then just copy it into the root directory. Click on the start soft button on the phone and selct the file explorer icon. Click on the "up" softkey to get you to the root directory. Click on the .cab file you copied. The program will install.

Then just get the blackberry service added to your voice account! I'll leave it up to your employer's IT guys to provision your device on their equipment after that.

Sorry to have so many quesiotn so many for everybody, but this is the only place I have even begun to figure our BB Connect.

Here is my situation - my company was just bought by another company and they do not have Windows Direct Push capability, just Blackberry. I have grown to love my Dash (T-Mo) and do not want to give it up. I never have had a BB serviuce before so I am a complete beginner. I have dowloaded the BB Connect cab from an earlier post and have successfully installed it on my device. Here are where my questions lie (the new IT dept has been less than responsive and are no help)

1. I am assuming I need to call T-Mobile USA and change to a BB plan - is this correct? I believe based on earlier threads that I need a new sim from them as well - correct?
2. I am assuming I need to install some BB software on my computer. I do know the New Co is runs BES - if this is a correct assumption then where do I find the software
3. I then connect my phone to the PC through the USB cable and then what? I really have no clue where to go from there?

Thanks so much in advance for anybody that may be able to help out. I really, really do not want to give up my Dash!

countfloyd

Answers:

1. You do not need to "change" your plan. If you currently have a voice plan, just get them to add the blackberry service to it and choose the plan that best approximates the amount of data you will consume per month. There is NO NEED to change your sim card.

2. You do not need to install any PC software if your IT department provisions your device on their BES server. The only purpose would be to sync your desktop with your device...I don't need to do this personally.

3. You don't need to connect your phone to the PC since you have already installed the device software.

Ok, as far as the BES, doesn't matter who the service provider is, the apn is the same for all networks connecting to Blackberry NA (blackberry.net) So it doesn't matter what network you use, as long as you have blackberry service on your plan and the blackberry connect software or blackberry device is set to go over blackberry.net

As far as any type of browser functions provided by work (as in they apply an it policy to the device) may cause issues for browsing as they can force the device to use specific apn. This is where the problem may come in connecting to work. Depending on what services they want restricted may have your browser or other data features in question. I have no way of testing this, but in theory the dash should be able to ignore the settings because according to the servicebooks I've sent to the device, none of the browser [config] or other blackberry specific servicebooks get delivered; with the excpetion of the [cmime] books for the email service. The BBC doesn't show this anywhere

Also, someone mentioned

This is in part to how their network is setup. wap.voicestream.com uses a DCHP to route connections. If you use internet2{3}.voicestream.com for the browser and BBconnect blackberry.net the network only allows connection to one of these at a time. They're both seen as priority because they are direct connections. I believe the browser speed is effected by this, because as the device is connected to blackberry.net any connection to wap.voicestream.com is in part routed through the blackberry system using the browser[config] servicebooks bypasses this and allows blackberry devices easy access. I'll double check their settings, but I belive if you create a new gprs connection with the information from the browser[config] servicebook that this should correct some if not all the connection speed of the browser itself. I'll post a reply to this when I get my information....

Hope this helps; more info to follow.

Hello

I am very close to having the bb connect client working on my unlocked sx66 (or whatever name you prefer). I took the SIM from my blackberry and put in the sx66 running wm5. I got the bb connect client installed on the phone and the desktop software on the pc and am able to connect while cradled. The problem is that only my contacts and calander are being syncronized during cradle sync but not mail, and once removed form the cradel, nothing comes in or goes out on the blackberry account. The BES server has refreshed and shows my new PIN (as in not the old blackberry one) but shows an error for policy status (probably ok) and no updated last connection time (though the last policy time sent 'and' received are updated). Any help would be most appreciated, I am sick of the blackberry and would like to just run it and the box full at my desk over with my truck.

Ok so here is the deal. My firm uses an enterprise server but they are adding devices to the server by registering the devices remotely (i.e., the phone registers remotely with the server). They are not willing to allow me to install the BBconnect desktop but want me to find a way to register my T-mobile Dash remotely with their server. The problem is that when I click "registration" on the BBconnect software installed on my phone, I keep getting the phone's home screen and nothing happens. Any suggestions?

Just go to the blackberry setup in your carrier's website and it will ask you to switch pins to the new device. Then it will send the service books to your new device, including email. Anyone able to figure out the ie slowdown? It is deathly slow surfing when using the blackberry service.

Just Tried It On The Beta An It Does Work.

Any other way to do this? I tried on mytmobile account but cannot find anywhere to change pins. Maybe our computer tech blocked it. Or I'm looking in the wrong place. Maybe you can be more specfic. Thanks :)

You were able to get it working on WM6? It registered on the network and got a pin? If so, I will load up right now... hehe...

Sting0r / All -

Please get us a WM6 compatible bb connect client. I installed version .39 which worked beautifully (on WM5) which you posted last after I upg the ROM. Device connects fine to the PC, generates PIN but won't receive emails.

You need to login to your account online to resend service books or sync up using blackberry connect for activesync with your BES server. Either way will get the necessary service books on the device.

Login in to Tmobile.com. Make sure you have blackberry enabled on your sim. Change your phone in the profile to a blackberry phone, just pick an 8800 or something like that. Then you should see an option to configure blackberry email. One of the options will be to resend service book. Did you already have blackberry internet service already setup? If not, you will need to configure your email accounts as well..

Anyone get this to work with an upgraded Tmo Dash to WM6? Mine installs, gets a pin, but then connection doesn't stay. I noticed that it didn't add any GPRS settings for the blackberry whereas under WM5 it had some new connections. Can anyone help? And yes, my phone is app unlocked. Weird.

Anyone able to get their hands on the Blackberry Connect Version 4.0 for the Smartphone???

Ive got the 4.0 for Windows Mobile 5, 6 Professional

I had to write my own setup dll to get around the smartphone checking and that part works... but it just wont activate and assign a PIN to the device as the OS build number is not approved by Blackberry(RIM)...

Ideas???

Happy to report it works with WM6, WM5 must have an older radio version than what is needed. My only problem now is the stupid policy my company has. I have a blank policy file, just need to figure out how to get it onto my device, so I don't have to use a password ever few minutes to unlock...

Thanks nmanero you are the man!!!

I am having problems connecting to BIS, I installed BBC4 on WM6, I was able to send the service books and everything worked great (email, browsing through BBConnect).

After soft reset, it won't connect, the status on the main page is Blackberry: Unknown. In identity I get my PINand IMEI but no connection, in status it says Stoppend and I can't restart it; in Services I have 7 services, the first one, Provisioning I can't delete it and it is for BES, I have the Blackberry Internet Service BIS, and it seems it is waiting to be BES provisioned or activated.

Anyone know how to configure it for BIS only?

Finally I have my SGH-I600.
I have tried to install BB Connect 4.0 but, the problem is the same. It doesn't give any PIN. So I can not register it on Blackberry site.
Have you any idea?
I need to use with BIS (Blackberry internet services).
I have used HTC S620 very well, but SGH I600 is lighter and faster, that's why I'm trying.
Please can someone help me?
thank you very much.

One stupid question from my side:
do i need this blackberry stuff for pushing emails to my device? when I boot, my windows says: "direct push technology"

isn't wm5 able to receive emails from an exchange server without bb software?

it is!

you need a exchange server with published OWA directly in the internet!

best way you have a frontend server in the DMZ ... use URL Filter on the Frontend or a ISA Firewall in Application Mode to Protect your Exchange Frontend Server. Next use Certificate for secure Client connections.

If you have enough knowlage ... its a half day work with all security futures.

I installed BB Connect version 4.0.0.76 and it seems to have messed with my Wi-Fi?

Symptoms:
- after connecting to a WAP, SSID is not displayed on the homescreen "Wi-Fi: ___________________" instead of "Wi-Fi: default"
- manually chaning the connection option in PIE to Secure WAP or WAP results in PIE prompting me that I do not have a connection.
- if I turn off the phone radio and turn on Wi-Fi and connect to a WAP, I cannot browse in PIE. It states that I should check my connections, etc.

Suspending the BB Connect service does not help any of this.

Anyone have any issues like this? Any remedies?

Hello there.

Question for you: I have a regular BB account (BES) through my mobile operator and my company's BES server.

Do I have to ask to my company to remove my previous account (regular BB device) prior to install BBConnect on my WM device ? I would avoid this, since my company is quite reluctant to these "changes".
Maybe I can use the same PIN I can read from my regular BB device ?

thanks in advance.
