Hi .dredd,
regarding your problem with ram, as I deleted 1000 contact from my 1281, after sr I have now 30.0 MB Program ram, despite of many running programs.

PS. Exactly it was 30,1 MB, but magicss took 0,1 MB as I made this screenshot
Really this is the best rom - many thanks to Jwrightmcps- on Universal what I ever seen.

Hi Xanadu,

I too have about 31 Mb free program memory after a reset. But 15-20 seconds after the soft reset, this figure automatically decreases to a 25 Mb without doing anything... Do u face a similar prob?

Try doing this..
1) Soft Reset
2) Go to Start->Settings->System->Memory

Observe it for about 30 seconds...

I wonder where this memory gets drained.

ALSO,

If i open a few programs ( third-party OR default) the available memory further depletes, which is OBVIOUS but upon closing these programs, i recover only half of what was spent in opening them.. This continues till the available memory settles down at some 15~16 Mb...

Could you confirm these two behaviours...

Lets hope the new bad boy heading out of Jwright's Factory has this issue taken care of...

Regards,
mOrph

Hi mOrph!

Right after SR I also have 31MB, but it decreases in 30 secs to 26MB.

You described exactly what I experienced still even a few days ago... the RAM could not been reclaimed... I also had 20-25MB after SR but after using progz I had only 15 (even less) reclaimed.
Now I have 23-25MB after SR but I can reclaim at least 17-18MB... often above 20MB.
I am using Magicbutton and Oxios Memory (both freeware)... they look more agressive in reclaim RAM than the built in app.

Xanadu!
Congratulations... I just finished cleaning up my contacts from duplications... I have some 530 contacts now... I will see if RAM gets bigger or not.

Could somebody let me know why Internet Explorer eats that huge RAM? I go to 2-3 bigger sites and the MDA gives up...
...and as all you know the sites are large enough nowadays...

Webby looks better but not able to display one column..:(

Tried JASJAR_WWE_19096_19505_11300_AKU_3_2_ship and JASJAR_WWE_19094_19503_11100_AKU_3_2_ship on my I-mate JasJar.

USB HDD doesn't work. It says "Can't initialize USB host" or smth and stops. Why it tries to initialize USB _host_?

DirectX doesn't work. DirectDrawCreate returns an error 0x80004005 (E_FAIL), Direct3DMobileCreate returns something, but GetAdapterDisplayMode returns an error, while the factory ROM (JASJAR_WWE_13076_164_10900_WWE_SHIP) works well.

So I had to return to factory ROM. :(

Hello mOrph,

3 hours after sr, some calls and programs using I have now 27,9 MB RAM.

I made a soft reset, was 29,7 MB RAM, went to system/setting/memory I saw 28,41 MB RAM.
Then opened/closed skype, word, tcmd, memory was 27,3.
Started oxion's closeapps, reclaimed 0,7 MB ram, then was 28.0 MB memory
Started/closed Task Manager, tcpmp, played some sec., with mobipocket opened a book, then closed all: memory 25,7 MB; started oxion's closeapps I have again 26.9 MB RAM
SR again, then 29,8 MB, sbsh pocketweather and ilauncher are running.

I started USB HDD on disconnected PPC then I pressed 'Activate' and I had that message about 'USB host'. :(
But it was not the main problem - I could use WM5Storage instead.

But DirectX!! That IS a problem for me. I can't run any application using DirectDraw or Direct3D and I can't use these functions in my own programmes. Why??

Have u tried hard reset or reflashing the ROM coz it seems that some required dll files must b missing.

That's what I'm talking about. After flashing 1.90.94 (and 1.90.96) I lost DirectX. I think some DLLs are missing. :)
Surely I did hard reset a lot of times. :)
So I had to return to factory ROM - 1.30.76. And it's a pity because 1.90.94 (96) is much faster than the old one...

Hi Bro
You're welcome...;)

I tried both apps long time before but they were somehow buggy and not very effective then.
Now I downloaded both again and found absolutely useful.
Actually I - as many other PDA owner - would like to have as much RAM as possible but honestly.. I am pretty satisfied with 17-20 MB which is ALWAYS reclaimable w/o softreset.

Waiting what you experience with the apps.

Hi Guys, hope someone can help with 2 issues:

When making a call, I frequently get "Dialing..." and can hear nothing, but other party can hear me swearing and cursing
I need to get .NET CF2.0 working on this ROM (.NET apps all fail), and truly want to avoid re-flashing a future ROM release. Any ideas on how. Here's what has NOT worked:
- Try to install CF2.0; says already in ROM
- Try to install older version and uninstall; Did nothing
- Try to delete GAC files then install 2.0; says already in ROM
If we can't fix it, I at least want to delete it and recover some ROM - anyone know what files to delete with CF2.0?

Any help would b much appreciated.

As there are (at least) two AKU 3.2 ROMs we lucky Universal owners can try, I thought I'd give Ivan's b14 ROM a go. Here's my brief comparison for anyone wondering which to choose.

Like JW's ROM it's quick and stable but there are a few differences:

- Ivan's ROM seems to lose some program memory after use, like JW's .96, but it seems not to be as dramatic. With Ivan I start with about 19MB after a soft reset and generally then stay in the 13-19MB band. JW's starts me off with 20MB but I can end up as low as 9MB.

- Ivan's ROM seems to have considerably lower power consumption. It's hard to judge, but I'd guess that a charge lasts me at least 30% longer than JW's. I was really surprised by the difference and I have no clue why this should be. Has anyone else had the same experience?

- For all that, JW's ROM feels more polished. In particular, it has the very helpful BT and GPS control panels enabled: Ivan's is missing them or (in the GPS case) has them hidden.

- Ivan's ROM doesn't seem to like SKTools' Clean-Up. It always crashes or doesn't refresh the screen properly. JW's ROM runs it flawlessly. I've never had a problem (memory permitting) running apps with JW's - I've had occasional issues with Ivan's.

In other respects I've found them to be very similar. They're both good ROMs and we're lucky to have such talented and generous folk who make these available to us. In an ideal world I'd go for JW's ROM with the memory and power issues sorted because it's that bit slicker: maybe that's what 1.91 will bring us!

Tried both & am Very Happy with My RAM Scenario... 80% Kudos to Oxios Closeapps & 20% Kudos to Magicbutton.. coz' i was previously using the "Running Programs" Application provided by ToeNailed... Anyways... The Oxios App really knows how to recover.. Currently after bout an hour of installing both, my RAM has settled at 24.7 Mb which is awesome...

The Magicbutton was a little buggy initially... It itself had slowed down the device but one SoftReset & its working like a charm...

A big thanks to fallenczar for pointing out that having a fixed WM5 cache can significantly shorten battery life.

I've installed .96 but set the cache to variable. Power consumption is MUCH better.

Who'd have thought it would make such a difference?

There is no visible feedback of caps lock. Many times I forget that caps is on so I have to retype my text again.

Any solution welcome;) :D

Hi dredd...

Its actually funny you should bring this topic up just when i was gonna suggest our Universal Bosses to look into this small software called Registry Wizard which, well as the name suggests is made for the device HTC Wizard ... That along with many other super cool tweaks has the functionality which you ( & many of us) have been craving for.. The "sending SMSes in CAPS" problem is indeed quite a irritant ;)

All those registry Maestros reading this post, please do take some time & look into the above mentioned app.. Obvious enuf, you shud find it on the Wizard threads... Should you not for any reason, i do have a copy of it & will be happy to upload... The reason why i have it is about 40% of those tweaks work on our Unis aswell (including transferring IE cache to Storage Card & Getting rid of the annoying Message Sent popup)

Well i have been in active for a while. This new ROM is the best that i have seen.Athough i have not updated my ROM since the last one by I-mate(I have a JASJAR).I can zip back and forth with no problems and its alot quicker.I have sat here for over an hour and read all 55 pages and it seems to me that most if not all of the people are having problems are trying to use this software for other phones.EVERYTHING works like a charm and alot quicker.
APPS i have installed:
Informant2007(sd)
Flexmail2007(sd)
Pocket Mechanic(sd)
Resco(sd)

lakeridge Vista transformation pack
I-launcher

**update.there is a problem that someone else had in this thread.
(And i went through my settings/button tab/unlock all buttons. To fix this problem and still a no go)I get the error cannot execute \Windows\nrdwakeup.exe.I have soft reset a few times and still the same constant error. Now that is the only problem i have had.this just started occuring a few minutes ago..regards

first, thanks sooooooooo much for such nice release rom...It's really great..

I've flashed this rom for about a week,It really works great with my T-Mobile MDA Pro. But I found something that seems to be bug..

1. In "Contacts",it cannot display the SIM Contacts automaticly, it means that if you wanna see your contacts in you SIM Card ,you need to open "SIM Manager",then choose "Select All" and "Save to Contacts"..It's soooo complicated ,at least for me.. In the early version 1.90.94, the "Contacts" works well, it can display the contacts in the SIM Card. anyone got the same problem like mine ??

2. the lightkey next to the stereo speaker doesn't work anymore.. In 1.90.94, it's ok..

I wonder you guys could help me and give me some suggestions to solve these problem..because I really like using this rom...THANKS VERY MUCH!

Hi dude...

For your problem no. 1 :- Well its actually a blessing in disguise for many i guess and so has been tweaked to be the way it is in .96
If you go through the prvious pages though, you will find a registry tweak which will undo this copying the Sim Manager problem of yours...

For your problem no. 2 :- I do not know how to get the original functionality of the Light Button back & neither can i promise you that the following solution will work (no harm giving it a try)

I am providing you with a small cab file which will give you the power of assigning any function to that button (just like Camera & Voice).. U'll be able to do so by going to

Start->Settings->Buttons

Am attaching the file below...

For the records - It aint my creation... ;)

Hope this does solve your problem...

No Dude... It does not let you gain access of anybodie's SIM CARD.. All it does is gives you the capability of displaying your own Sim Data (Contacts stored on your SimCard) on your Bluetooth handsfree Device (ofcourse considering your handsfree device has a Display)

Besides this functionality, I myself would wanna know if theres anything that the Bluetooth Sim Access can be used for...

When using your universal device, how many times has it happened that you thought you are typing in lower case but it turned out you were typing in Upper Case... Well it happens to most of us. Reason = HTC cud have incorporated a Backlight Warning for the Caps Lock on but i guess they forgot...

Now, considering there aint much we can do bout a physical glow on the keyboard, the next best thing would be a sign on our screen, letting us know that the Caps Lock is on... A similar functionality has been given for the FN button in the HTC Wizard.. I hope this makes things clearer...

As for more than one SMS at a time, what they meant was you could send the same SMS to more than one people... While sending an SMS, after your first recipient has been added, simply tap the Menu(right soft-key) and then tap on "Add Recipient".. Doing so should show you your contacts once again from where you can choose the second person you wish to send the exact same SMS as the first recipient.

I always just press the "to" words to open contact and locate, or simply type the beginning of the name, select it, then start typing the next after the semi colon. don't see a need to use soft key add recipient, browse and select, especially if you know the name of who you are sending to.

"to" is quicker. start typing name much quicker. it auto adds the semi colon anticipating multi recipients.

surprised this wasn't considered obvious...!

hey morph, good to see your device is working after your "brick" effect a while ago seen you msn notices occassionally, but you had always gone when I saw it...

there were several question regarding the SIM profile and what you can do with it.

For Example my car stereo is equipped with BT handsfree. So it can connect to my MDA as soon as I enter my car. After that I can dial all the contacts from the outlook address book through the steering wheel of my car without looking on the mda display because all contacts are mirrored to the car stereo display (BT handsfree device). So you don't have to use the buttons or display for making or receiving phone calls.

This is the designed functionality.... of course there are problems too. There seems to be a wrong timeout between the MDA and my car BT device. It connects and after a few minutes it automatically disconnects and you have to reconnect manually :( . And this happens all the time.

My car BT hands free works just fine - always re-connects when I get in the car without me having to do anything and never disconnects until I get out. It was actually far worse under AKU2.0...

I used Tweaks 2k2 to change the FS cache, but I believe the keys are:

HKLM / SYSTEM / STORAGEMANAGER / FATFS / Cache

HKLM / SYSTEM / STORAGEMANAGER / FILTERS / fsreplxfilt / ReplStoreCacheSize

HKLM / SYSTEM / STORAGEMANAGER / PROFILES / MSFLASH / FATFS / Cache

each of which is set to 0 for a variable cache and 8192 for a 2MB fixed cache.

To be honest i have never exp. the failure of my phone staying in CAPS lock while typing.i dont know why the automatic caps lock happens to most ,but i have not had that problem since i have had mine.I usually use the keyboard or tap the screen but not sure why most have the CAPS lock problem.thank you for answering my questions.I have been able to send more than one text to the same person a several times over.I thought this function(SIM bluetooth) was for being able to show the contents of other bluetooth enabled mobiles.Thank you again.Has anyone used the ROM that someone posted in earlier pages here on the forum>?cannot remember what page but there was someone who made their own ROM to replace the ROM that comes with the package.
***BTW-this morning i tested the functioning of the button problem i mentioned before and there are no errors.I think maybe the new ROM had to get adjusted or something.Everything else is working like a charm.****

Hi Bro!
What you are talking about is the auto CAPS after end of sentences.... initials are automatically caps in SMS and emails, documents....which works perfect!!! The problem starts when you definiately WANT to write a word or more in uppercase... or you have to log in with your uppercase username... so there are pretty quite cases when one easily can forget the keybd in CAPS.
I really do not believe one developer of the WM5 could not discover the lack of this essential feature....

Hey Simon..

How u've been buddy... ya the aku2 had really taken my device to its grave.. I eventually had to send it to Dubai (Local Warranty Issues) and convince them that i had made an authentic ROM upgrade (which took bout 7 months) but I managed.. Got a new motherboard for the JJ... Now its back with a bang... They have put BootLoader Ver 2.1 for crying out loud... :D

Though i had sworn off flashing ROMs completely after the 7 months torture of using a shitty Nokia but cudn't contain myself after the 3.2 reviews ;)

Newez... I'll see u around buddy...

Addition, what you explain is for the Handsfree profile used in car kits, but Sim access profile is different. It is developed by Nokia and till now I did not see any other Car Kits with this profile except the 616 of Nokia.

Then about the functionality, the SAP subdue the whole SIM to the Car kit ie. you do not need your mobile when you are in the car even if battery is empty because you copied it to the car kit. Your mobile is disconnected to the network car kit has the full connectivity, your car kit will use the car regular antenna as the mobile antenna. Once you are out of the car your mobile will resume connection as if you were in out of reach area and went back.

Hi All,

In these ROMs there is a good-looking (green) Battery indicator in the lower right corner. I thought the amount of green color is in accordance with the charge level of the battery. But for me it does not seems to be the case. I shows (almost) full battery, even when the charge level is around 70%. Sometimes it goes down, but I do not know whed. Does anybody know how this should work? (Maybe it does not have a fine resolution as I supposed...)
Thank you for the clarification.

Hi tetriska
As for the green batt indicator, I experienced also false display but either it is too small to show the right status or poorly calibrated.
As I remember somebody in this topic linked a cab file or a registry hack which makes this indicator to be disappeared. I am using Magicbutton built in indicator but there is also the free Batti for battery status.
Roll back here a few pages and you will find I think

How is the progress on the new rom ?? any major changes with 96??
because i'm using that one right now with my mda pro didn't have serious bugs just some small ones the major one was that it froze during installing ext rom even though I used the right one and I removed the sim lock but similar problems are already adressed in this thread.

Well you can take the chance of losing valuable data, but most if not all remove BOTH.I have heard of people losing memory not the first few times.the phone itself makes the card lose their data. Its reported in several differnt threads.I dont understand why someone would not take the precautions.I know i dont want to damage my jasjar or lose data or fry a sim card or even my SD card.So if you do it all the time-may the GURU gods watch over you........

IF you look at the Modaco link on the first page that discusses the AKU 3 improvements, it says for this particular feature that the improvement is:

If you send SMS to multiple recepients, if the sending of any message fails, you get the option to resend only the messages that fail.

Previuously there was no indication which of recepients messages didnt send.

Hi
Just wished to thank Mr J Wright. You did bring in a stable ROM, fast flashy and neat. Its up and running no hiccups. I find it flies like a flash if you dont overload the memory.
What i wonder is can you not customise it and not load op setting for so many operators and allow the user to select from a service provider.
Second, i find program memory to be limited.I wish you could address this. A2DP, Works like a breeze (xcept for skipping and lagging ).
Thanx for making the effort and my words if they may should make u happy that YES your hardwork paid off...

IF you look at the Modaco link on the first page that discusses the AKU 3 improvements, it says for this particular feature that the improvement is:

If you send SMS to multiple recepients, if the sending of any message fails, you get the option to resend only the messages that fail.

Previuously there was no indication which of recepients messages didnt send.Thanx for sorting out the issue.

I noticed that my email now has the most recent emails coming in at the top instead of the bottom.

Anybody know how to change it back to the default?

Thanks in advance.

ROM Update 1.90.96 WWE

Hi:
I have updated with ROM Update 1.90.96 WWE and I see in the register of windows that appears some line regarding OMEGAONE software. The question is if it is due some new adding in the rom or is because the upgrade doesn't clean totally the registry. In the past I was checking this software but unistall it.

Why r u guys wanting an updated ROM? I'm finding it works great. Sure the Uni still has many issue that need solving with a range of apps, but it's not a ROM issue. The only problem is the .NET CF 2.0 installation is bad - and I certainly don't intend to reflash to fix that - I want to know how to fix it manually.

I agree, I have been using the latest ROM for a couple of weeks now and have to say I am glad my Exec is now living up to expectations. It was always a great bit of kit, but now it works too - woohoo
Many Many thanks to JC for the effort and for sharing the fruits of his labour.

I couldn't agree with you more bro...

I remember what a sluggish brick my device used to be when i had bought it... Infact i was regretting having WM5 due to lack of speed & lack of apps & was asking around people if WM2003SE cud be installed on JJ.. hehee :o :o

Now all thanks to JW & other maestros on this forum, i am absolutely contented with the device & feel it was worth spending that kinda money back then...

On the Application & Games front though, i still feel we(Universal Owners) shud be ashamed, coz' our device is the Pinnacle of Handheld World but even symbian based Nokias wud give us a run for our money when it comes to s/w...

Newez... this is hardly the forum to discuss those issues..;)

Just upgraded to the new ROM. Installation appeared to go fine. Did a soft reset at the end of the install process and get nothing, nada, zilch.

O2 XDA Exec no longer boots.

Can still get into Bootloader mode, and also can do a Hard Rest OK.

Am trying the upgrade process again. At the end I will Hard Reset rather than soft reset and see if that makes a difference.

My Bootloader is v1.00 (if that makes any difference)

i upgraded to the 1.90.96 rom yesterday and i changed the right soft key (the right '-' key) to the calendar.
after i few times of using the soft-key it started giving errors, it said: "the program "calendar" is not trusted, doesnt have certificate blablabla cant start blablabla" (dont know the exact lines because i solved it), however it worked when i started the calendar in other ways (programs - calendar or just clicking on the today screen)

after some changing to the extended rom i did another hard-reset and after a while i had the same error with a different button. when i pressed the contacts-button (the one which is immediately right to the left soft-button).
it said: "the program "contacts" cant start blablabla its not trusted blablabla"
and i could start the program contacts without any problems by using other ways.

when i went to settings - personal - buttons and selected the button and the program the error disappeared, i didnt even assign a different program to the button.
i dont know if anyone else has had this problem, but i just thought i should let you guys know.

Yes I agree that the 1.90.96 ROM is a step forward, but I am still not able to use it on my everyday JasJar. The memory leak is a major problem - to be able to use my mapping software I need at least 20 MB of RAM which is never available on the 1.90.96. On my 1.30 ROM on the second JasJar unit, with more software installed, during few days of use between resets it stays on the 18-22 MB level and after reset I have >24 MB. On the 1.90.96 after reset there is around 16MB and after a while it drops down to 12 MB range without any programs running, which is not enough for me.

Firstly, A big thankyou to Jwrightmcps for his fine work with 1.90.94 & 96.
I believe the quality of the build is better than the manufacturers' efforts.

I have an issue where I cannot answer incoming calls when the device is closed using the hardware buttons. My definition of closed is with the screen facing the keyboard. This behaviour is consistent and once the buttons are pressed the call cannot be picked up even if the device is opened and screen buttons are pressed to attempt to answer the call.

My device is an Imate Jasjar.

Has anybody else experienced this?

My device is standard except for the installation of SPB Pocket Plus 3 and Tom Tom 6.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

On my 1.90.96, available memory sticks at around 20Mb all the time. Do you actually close programs after use or do you minimize them? I use SPB PocketPlus to really close most of the programs I use (I have no problems with the delay when starting programs)

I hava a couple of questions:

1. normally with the original rom, when you are connected to GPRS you could click on the G ontop and you see the status and a button to disconnect. can it be possible with a registry tweak or something to put that status and the disconnect button back?

2. can I change the splashscreen that appears when you start the device?

Hi xanadu,

I have an MDA Pro (from Germany). I have the .96 ROM. I downloaded the TMO-H_Customize.CAB (92KB) from your site. I just tried to send an sms to my other phone. It works! What bothers me is the lenght of the sms. If I use accented characters other than é and í, then the message length will be reduced to 70 chars... To be honest with you I do not know wheter it is the fault of MDA, T-Mobile or the Hungarian language :)

on my side the new rom is working fine. Performance is better that previous official imate -including the registry modification used to increase the speed- and I am very happy with the new software. It is very stable. There are some things to solve: phone image is lost (I mean the picture of the small phone that show where is the keypad) and there is a problem with the installation of netcompact, from microsoft. For me is important because I cannot use some small software (pushmail v.1.0, freeware) that detect when you have mail and do automatically a syncronization, due my corporate exchange server doesn't has SP2.
On the other side the new tool for using the imate as modem for the computer is very effective, besides other new improvements.

In resume, thanks a lot providing us so nice software. Let's wait the new release...

Hi

Thanks you for all your effort Jwrightmcps.

I have had my Xda Exec for a year or so now. Just upgraded to this new rom and it worked fine first time. I can report that eWallet, Mobipocket reader and my Plantronics Pulsar 590 all work well. The plantronic headphones do need a bit of coaxing to get the A2DP working but once running the sound was excellent, very occasional loss of sound but generally very pleased. It cuts over to phone mode very well and back to music after ended the call. All the remote control functions (next track, last track, pause) worked perfectly. Anyone considering the Plantronics the only problem I would report is that people often complain that they can’t hear me when they call. I may upgrade to the new Sony headset.

Cheers

on my side the new rom is working fine.
On the other side the new tool for using the imate as modem for the computer is very effective, besides other new improvements.

Can someone please tell me what this tool is and where I find it. Is it the "Internet Sharing" thing? In fact, I seem to be missing a program I recall having before called "Modem" or something similar. I know I'm being a bit dense here...

Yes, it is internet sharing. process followed:
- pda connected by activesync, with cable on usb.
- activate "Internet Sharing", by USB

the consequence is activesync is disconnected and msoft recognizes the pda as a modem. After some seconds, the computer has a new connection, name "22" that provide internet access to the computer.

I am using your latest version 1.90.96 with MrTrueVGA hack. I just tried running the game IMate Blackjack and was able to start it with sounds and everything, but it would do nothing. Even the EXIT button does not work. It does not seem to respond to any taps. The only option I have to get out of the Blackjack game is to do a soft reset. Anyone else have this problem?

I use Ver. 96 too.
No problem playing i-mate Blackjack.
Only difference: I don't use true VGA at all.

He's right, I got the problem too, without any VGA hack. Just make sure you have your Universal in PORTRAIT mode, and Then run i-mate backgammon.

Well, I downloaded the file (.96), in the rar file, there were BL1, WWE aku 3_2, and 2 read files. I guest I have to run the WWE file to see what is going to happen. The instalation terminates with: "rar$1 missing" or some "msi missing" Can anyone help? Why does it have to be sooooo complicated. With ivan´s rom I just run it and that was it, but I miss a lot of features on that rom. Thanks for help.

Thankyou very much Jwrightmcps.

I am only new to the JJ device and was hesitant to upgrade however your rom upgrade is easy and I re flashed my unit in 20 minutes and have had it running for 2 days now and all programs and functions are performing as they should.

You are a Legend keep up the work I look forward to further enhancements and have no hesitation in letting anyone know how good your work is.

As a side question is there any way (reg entry or tweak) I can speed up the screen refresh after rotation of screen as sometimes it can be slow.........this was more so on the old rom but I still experience a stuttering effect on an incoming ringtone.....I can live with this minor issue however if this can be rectified I would be very happy.

Thanks (A very happy Jas Jar Owner)

Hello all,

Like everyone else here, impressed with the ROM etc. Many thanks.

Still can't get MMS working properly with TMobile UK. Anyone out there that does have MMS working properly with TMobile UK ?

Thanks.

No-one as far as I can tell. I have emailed arcsoft in the vain hope that they may have told me what fundamental difference the two versions have, that may mean it might not work with a particular operator. As I expected, I am not important enough to warrant a response.

As well as people on this board, there are also people on Modaco using the 3.2 rom having the same problem.

Sadly, as skilled as they are, the developers of these ROMs cannot be expected to know how to fix this, as it is a problem or 'feature' of the application itself.

So, if anyone on T-Mobile UK is reading this, is using an aku 3.2 ROM with MMS client 3.5.1.5, and cannot receive MMS messages ( It notifies you it is downloading, shows 0% then 99% then nothing, nada, zip ), Rest assured, it is not the settings that you have no doubt checked several times, it is in fact an incompatibility of this Client Version with T-Mobile UK.

To the developers......how difficult would it be to have one of your ROM's with an earlier version client? Is this something that we can do ourselves?

Is there a possibility to modify/edit the ROM file(s) before download? For example I would like to remove the 2 i-mate tsk files, the chess and clearvue pdf. Would I have more space remaining? Please write me if there is a program to do that.

Not at the prices they charge in Australia AUD$0.02 per K/Byte! Internet access via Mobiles is NOT an option except for the VERY Rich and some businesses.

My Cable 60GB monthly charge is only $90.00, via my Mobile it would be
AUD$1,200,000.00 !!!! - PER MONTH. Sure, some bulk rates are available but there is no such thing as an unlimited account and if you are not cut off (they call it shaped here) the excess charges are as foul as casual rates!

I bought a JASJAR with the original ROM, and felt i lost good money on a piece of JUNK. After 3.2, I think this junk is transformed into a productive tool. I have had minor annoyances (wifi reconnect post suspend, hanging coz of some apps, blue point pocket earth doesnt work wis bar wont work etc) well these are minor in comparison to what I had before. I would like to thank Mr John Wright for his tremendrous effort in bringing about a beautiful easy off the shelf solution for thousands of UNIVERSAL users. I appreciate his ROM more so coz its a simple one update affair and does not require additional tweaking which is better than the manufacturers ROM. :)
For people who wish to load with good software I recommend looking at this link.

I am a fan for your hardwork Mr Wright and would like to volunteer for testing softwares on any updates you would wish to create.
Dear fellow universal users please understand we are at the infancy of Windows Mobile devices and people like Jwright wud be making mega bucks like our Mr Bill Gates if he chose to. He has put his efforts to our collective use Make a contribution to his efforts and to this forum as well for making it available to us. I do not know how to set the contribution front for JWright but it is at his discretion to set one up. As for forum XDA its right on the main page.

Have been running with the new ROM for a week now, haven't installed any additional programs yet, just resynched the device to get my contacts and appointments back.

I seem to be having a problem in that my Storage disappears and I can't run some of the built in applications, e.g. if I try and run the Contacts I get an error that :MSCONTACTS cannot be found, same with Calendar (:MSCALENDAR)

I looked in Settings->Memory->Main when this happens and instead of the usual view like this

Storage
Total: 43.72Mb
In Use: 23.72Mb
Free: 20Mb

I get a screen with a little slider bar that lets me choose between storage and program memory.

The Total Storage memory shows as 0.00Mb, In Use as, say, 12Mb and Free as -11Mb.

and instead of 'Find large files using storage memory' i get a line showing the syntax that lives behind the 'Find' hyperlink.

All very strange as, as I say, I haven't loaded any additional programs yet. A soft reset cures it.

I will probably try Ivan's ROM now and see if this is any more stable for me as it looks to be more O2 XDA Exec specific.

Regards

Mike

I think I am alone in this world with my A2PD problems after having tried every trick in the forum. I guess is just my Xda Exec machine because everybody seems so happy...

Thanks for replying; Yes I did pair and tried the two BT headsets straight after the upgrade and none worked (I guess that's what you mean by an HR?). They both worked as headsets, but none as "wireless stereo", i.e., the usual 1 or 2 seconds followed by long silents...

Yep that's what I meant [HR = hard reset] anyway that's really odd I installed this ROM and did not do anything else and BT A2DP is working.

Just to check during service discovery the Wireless Stereo option did not present itself in either of your headsets? Just Headset profile is shown?

Hello Everyone,

It has been a while since my last ROM update and I thought I would build another one based on the newly available AKU 3.2 core. The good news is that I have completed the ROM and have tested it myself extensively (as always) with no major bugs or issues to report. I am now posting the final version for all that wish to help evaluate and test this beta prior to its full release. As I stated above this is my final beta and all features should operate as desired, however if anyone should have issues or suggestions please post them.

Enjoy,

In the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft .NET Compact Framework 1.0 SP3 you can find a file "netcf.all.wce4.ARMV4.cab", copy it with activesync to your device. Then from your device install it via File Explorer.

I still having problems. It was installed with your guide- thanks a lot- but the programs using netcf don't work. Looks something is not included because are looking for some modules.
Maybe the solution should be to eliminate the installation on the rom upgrade of this software (framework) and install later. Who knows who to do it?

Hi!

I put my working version to my ftp, try this

http://www.dredd.tvn.hu/19096_noextrom.zip

This does not contain extrom so the extrom will be untouched but of course you have to unlock and unhide after reflashing.

I start reflashing with bootloader mode.

It seems T-Mobile UK have made some changes! I received my first MMS today with the new client, and I have not changed a thing. Sent myself a few, and got them all!!

i love the ROM!
although one problem is starting to bug me.
since i upgraded, i can no longer send an SMS using the hardware keyboard, without touching the screen to navigate from the Recipients list to the message body field.

before it used to be as simple as type the recipients name, press cursor down, and the focus changes to the message body and you can type the message away.. not anymore though

help.. anyone?Did you apply PIE Smooth Scrolling Tweak if so this may be the cause of your issue. I noticed after applying the tweak I could no longer use d-pad or dir keys to navigate from field to field in messaging, TAB still worked though, upon disabling the tweak I could use dpad/dir keys to navigate between fields.

If you are unsure if you applied the tweak or not... Here is the tweak taken from the Wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=WM5_Tweaks_Other) just check manually:
Navigate PIE up/down with the four-way pad
By default, PIE uses the four-way pad's up/down buttons to jump between hyperlinks and form fields. You can set it up to page up/down instead by setting:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\4-Way Nav = 0 (DWORD decimal)

And to re-enable hyperlink/form field navigation:
\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Navigation\4-Way Nav = 1 (DWORD decimal)

Note that you may still jump between links using Tab and Shift-Tab if your Device has a built-in hardware keyboard.

REMEMBER: REGISTRY EDITING IS DONE AT YOUR OWN RISK

I'm still having this problem. What did you do to change it? Do you have a 3G chip? or are you using the old GSM ones? I've had my chip for the past two years. This is really annoying. And what do you mean by "new client"?? Any help will do.

Very silly question, but did you set the device's time/date/timezone prior to establishing the first connection? I recognize this error from my Exec, whenever after having performed an hard reset I forget to first set time/date/timezone prior to synchronizing.

Hello .
I am a new member here. I read this post a bit from page 1 upto 9 and again from last page till page 56. I conclude most have used the new rom update some have had errors.
As i own a new Imate JASJAR , I want a bit of step by step walk though guidance as to how to go about upgrading the rom, since I have not done so earlier as i have a new JJ.
Also let me know if its worth going for this update or I should rather wait for a next release. I would appreciate all kind help all you good people can provide.Thanks. :)

1.Also let me know is a hard reset required after update or soft reset?
2.Besides loosing data viz contacts, emails, sms, All 3rd party applications need to be removed prior update or will it be there?
3.Does the rom update meant for jasjar like i have run as it is or do I ned extras too as listed in 1st page of this post?
4.Do i need boot loader or just run the rom update only for my Jasjar.
5. Will all operator settings of Gprs,MMS get removed or will be there after rom update?
Please dont mind as I am new in here and want extreme precautions before I go ahead.

I found these bugs in AKU3.2 version 1.90.96:

* Always, ExtROM version : <> is clear, no version written.
* Sometimes, can't turn off flight mode when it turned on.
* Sometimes, can't bring the phone back when it turned off (when not in use for 2 minutes), and must do a soft-reset.
* Sometimes, the date not shown in (Date's Today plugin) until click on it or bring up any application to override it.
* The Battery dead after 2 days (in best cases) in this version, when it was full for 5-7 days (in most cases) with the same configurations and usage with AKU2 (1.30.82) installed.
* The standard camera application still very poor and very slow compared with applications like CoolCamera (which is still in beta version[1.5]).

I can overlooking the whole bugs but the battery.

Mr. Jwrightmcps, do you plan to provide some update? We still being waiting for your great news..., boss

On my side I should add:
- Light button doesn't works as previous or original ROM.
- Incompatibility of some CPMPACT Framework programs.

But really is stable and very fast. About battery consume times, when it is 50%, it is died...

hello my friend.let me help you out.
the screen will guide you through this process.and i you do a soft reset while its installing the programs to ROM-it will deplete them.
you want to DL the newest rom 1.96
there are newly added servers that you can choose from now in the rom.the unlocking tool is on the first page.copy it(cab file so you cannot double click on it)to your jj and then it will do its thing.the new rom is excellent.just back up all of your info, like i stated to you previously and then when its done restore it.

Friends
I at last managed to upgrade my jasjar to the latest to 1.90.96. I found some issues with this version.
when the alarm is ringing the dismiss button is missing, even after reboot the alarm is still ringing
The overall sound of phone has decreased, I mean I could hear only low sound but the other end is ok.
The camera is little slow
Except these I found the ROM as excellent.

Hello All

I am having a nightmare and hope someone can help. I have tried to update my Jasjar ROM to 1.90.96 today but have failed catastrophically! Before starting I insured I had the latest level Windows 3.1 installer and Active Sync 4.2. I have checked the bootloader on my device by pressing the two keys on the top of the keypad and the reset button and it confirmed I have version 1.01.

Now for the bad news. I established a connection via Active Sync as instructed and opened the update file. The programme started the radio update but sat at 0% for about 5 minutes and then informed me it was unable to establish a connection. I have tried to follow the recovery instructions on the screen but my device just displays USB v1.01 on the screen and does nothing. My P.C also tells me it is unable to establish a connection and the program closes.

Can any of the experts out there help please or have I now managed to make myself a very expensive brick!!!

Look forward to hearing form you guys

This might be a silly question, but let's start with the simple stuff before we make it complicated: have you tried a soft reset? If that failed, did you do a reset to factory defaults (by holding the two '-' menu buttons on the keyboard and poking the stylus into the reset hole)?

If the answers to both are yes, I think there's there's a tool by Buzz Lightyear to get out of bootloader mode. You can track it down here or on Buzz's site.

I've also been told that it sometimes helps to reflash the ROM from another PC. As usual, don't try it through a USB hub - plug the cable directly into a USB socket.

That's all I can think of. Any other suggestions, anyone?

Hi Goldry

Firstly thanks for the lightening response.

I have tried both soft reset and factory reset, both of which failed. I also tried a hard reset buthtat just put me back to the same screen.

I will track down Buzz's tool to see if that helps.

Your comments about USB hub is an interesting one. I did the install through a 4 port mini hub! it had nothing else connected and is not the powered type but it is a hub. Could this be the cause of my problem?

I don't have access to another P.C so that will be difficult. However, if all else fails I may perform a format and re-install on my desktop to see it that helps.

I'm not a hardware expert but I'd try removing the hub before you do it again. I've reflashed the ROM in my Exec any number of times and it's never gone wrong - but I've always had it plugged directly into a USB port.

Anyway, here's Buzz's tool and the description of it he provided:

Description: little PC tool, which will jump you out of the bootloader.

To be clear:
It works only for "stuck at serial/usb" screen.
It will NOT work, if you are stuck at splash screen.
You ALWAYS HAVE TO TRY REFLASH prior running this tool, it will help most of the times. If flashing didnt help, run the tool.
It works on UNIVERSAL device type (maybe some others as well).

The tool does opposite of what EnterBL.exe does.
Once you ran EnterBL.exe on your Universal, it will prevent the system to boot into OS.

In such case, or after unsuccessful update, you can recover using this UNI_ExitBootloader.exe tool.

How to:
- disconnect USB cable from your device
- disable USB connection in ActiveSync
- reconnect USB cable
- wait some 30 seconds
- run the tool

If successful, device will boot itself.

Best of luck

Hi Big G,

I also have an USB Hub. When I wanted to sync my Universal through it, it always dropped the connection! So I can easily imagine this was the problem... I hope you can/could revive your PDA.

Hi Russell

First off, go to this thread:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=269118

It's the best step-by-step walkthrough I know. Then disconnect any USB hub you're using and start upgrading!

BTW, O2 calls it an Exec but the manufacturer calls it a Universal, so that's the name most people here use. AKA i-mate jasjar and lots of other names. They're listed in the XDA Developers Wiki, which is anyway a jolly good place to browse.

had this problem with sdk 2.0 too soo it has nothing to do with this rom
* Sometimes, can't bring the phone back when it turned off (when not in use for 2 minutes), and must do a soft-reset.
off hand i can think of 2 reasons....a) your battery is dying...
b)you have a prog running from your sd card that needs to be loaded so you have very long loading time
* Sometimes, the date not shown in (Date's Today plugin) until click on it or bring up any application to override it. never happened with me so cant comment on that
* The Battery dead after 2 days (in best cases) in this version, when it was full for 5-7 days (in most cases) with the same configurations and usage with AKU2 (1.30.82) installed.
read through the 75 odd pages and you'll find an answer to this
* The standard camera application still very poor and very slow compared with applications like CoolCamera (which is still in beta version[1.5]).
so???? what is your point???

as for someone who just found out that .net cf v2 is not functioning properly... Jwrightmcps has already replied to it

and one last request to all the people who have a problem in upgrading the rom....or who brick there uni.... please use the search function...of the 75 odd pages here most are filled with this BS...for heavens sake there are threads related to this just SEARCH

Do we have a Clue on When to expect the new Rom?...

simon_darley

For people who wish to load with good software I recommend looking at this link.
http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=197462&page=208&highlight=wm5
I am a fan for your hardwork Mr Wright and would like to volunteer for testing softwares on any updates you would wish to create.
Dear fellow universal users please understand we are at the infancy of Windows Mobile devices and people like Jwright wud be making mega bucks like our Mr Bill Gates if he chose to. He has put his efforts to our collective use Make a contribution to his efforts and to this forum as well for making it available to us. I do not know how to set the contribution front for JWright but it is at his discretion to set one up. As for forum XDA its right on the main page.
Regards to all in sincerity

Re blue point pocket earth, I believe it works fine on mine. months n months ago, when I went to jasjar rather than xdaii, I pointed it out, they gave me a free upgrade to v3.4 which works fine in portrait, not landscape.
