View Full Version : i-mate JASJAR AKU 3.2 Rom Update 1.90.94
Jwrightmcps
9th October 2006, 12:07 AM
Hello Everyone,
It has been a while since my last ROM update and I thought I would build another one based on the newly available AKU 3.2 core. The good news is that I have completed the ROM and have tested it myself extensively (as always) with no major bugs or issues to report. I am now posting the final version for all that wish to help evaluate and test this beta prior to its full release. As I stated above this is my final beta and all features should operate as desired, however if anyone should have issues or suggestions please post them.
Enjoy,
Jwrightmcps
Now for the fun part!

Hi,
Is this rom same as Ivan's? and if not what is the difference?
also, can you PLEEEEEEAAAAAASSSSSSSEEEEEE include the languages pack??
Jwrightmcps
9th October 2006, 02:27 AM
This ROM is designed for the I-mate JASJAR and is completely different than Ivan's O2 ROM although they both share the same AKU 3.2 core. see the above post for my ROM contents.
As for the language pack...
if you are referring the the OS language pack this would be impossible, because that would only be on a new device that has never been used before. The language pack feature is a new design in which a new device would already have all languages loaded in the "program memory" from the factory and when the new owner starts the device for the first time it would ask what language he/she preferred, then after the user's selection it would erase all languages except the one chosen. So these language packs are not available in any ROM and therefore I would never be able to package it.
I hope this answers your questions.
Take care,
Jwrightmcps

hi,
I successfully extracted the ship.exe from the ship.zip,
as I have a Qtek 9000 I need the .nbf files.
It looks that the .exe files are not a SFX CAB archive.
This way I cannot use MaUpgrade to flash my Qtek.
Could you please put a .exe SFX file in the ftp? so I'll be able to extract the nbf files.
Thank you very much

SFX???
what are you trying to do???
all you need to do is run the .exe and then go to the temp folder (dont close the installer) on your computer and look for the newest folder then open it and copy the nbf files you want.
Then you can use the MaUpgrade tool. You may want to put your device in bootloader mode first.
Take care,

If I run the .exe = error 120
The .exe file needs to have property SFX, So I can extract the files .nfb. so I can run MaUpgrade :o))
Look the atatck file.

Hi,
I just did:
- Start install
- open (windows->run) "%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp"
find latest created folder (which contained all nbf files).
- copy *.nbf to where maUpgrade was extracted
- close install
- run maUpgrade (needed to do it twice as it didnt go into serial mode fist time).
hope this help :)

Heres my findings and bugs report for this latest Beta Roms we have here, plus i got a New Version of SIM Manager 5.22 to share with u guys!!
NEW SOFTWARE!!!
New SIM Manager v5.22
Current Version in the ROM is v3.16
I found this NEW Version of Sim Manager v5.22 from the Internet. You can copy ALL your name contacts from memory to SIM card at one go. One catch though - contacts saved under company names will only display contact numbers and NOT company names. Would like to share this and hopefully u can intergate it into your next Beta release or maybe the Final release.
Bugs Found:
1: Hardware buttons not responding anymore
a) volume slider
b) light button
c) voice dial
d) camera
SMS Multiple Recipient improvements
2: Cannot find this function in the inbox application for SMS. Not sure if its included or buggy sorry i cannot find it. Pls englight me on this issue. Thanks!
New Ringtone Plug-in
3: Sorry, can't find this application or program either.
4) Default File Explorer is Missing!!!
Findings:
1)New Camera application 3.00 22764
Camera Pictures Quality still not much improved
There is a newer version found in UNI.AKU3.2WWE-indra9110.BETA1 (130.115) Camera Version is 3.00 22844, i can't get hold of this version hopefully someone who has this version can share and contribute. Thanks!!
2)Screen Rotation icon no longer in taskbar!
I personally found this icon very useful, can pls reinstate in your nest Beta or the Final release. Really Appreciated!!
3)Bottom Bar Default Calender and Contacts function changed to Notes and Contacts.
Its this a AKU 3.2 upgrade or can it be changed back to Calender and Contacts Instead??
4) New Game included
Pocket Chess- Cool!!
5)Some findings on Default Memory on this Latest AKU 3.2 Rom
Default Storage Memory- 37.38MB
Default Program Memory- 28.91MB
6) Speed
Yes, Definately we have a faster ROM, still cannot comment on stability cos just downloaded it an hour ago, hope my findings can help improve this ROM further. Thanks Jwrightmcps Great Job, keep it going man!!

Does this rom support Video calls ?
thanks
vbguru613
9th October 2006, 06:58 PM
it does support Video calls
4) Default File Explorer is Missing!!!
Its in the Start menu (I thought a 3.2 Feature)
1: Hardware buttons not responding anymore
mine does
a) volume slider
Mine works
b) light button
does not work (i use the power on off button
c) voice dial
Dont care
d) camera
Works
Jwrightmcps
9th October 2006, 07:26 PM
The file explorer is not missing it is on the start menu (look closer please, as your post might scare people)
"ALL" hardware buttons should work, as the do on all my test phones (7 JASJAR's) Please check this again.
SMS Multiple Recipient improvements means you can SEND a text message to more than one person at a time much easier than before (this is an AKU 3.2 feature)
The Ringtone Plug-in is found by doing a "tap and hold" on any sound file, this now includes mp3 files. (so there is no program to run, that is why you don't see it)
The Calendar softkey was replaced with Notes, due to the fact you can already launch the calendar from the today screen. Leaving it as the default "Calendar" is redundant don't you think? I fell it is far more useful to have another program to launch, such as the notepad, so one could take notes quickly. I will not change this, but could provide a signed cab file that would change it to the default.
Screen Rotation Icon, again this is another redundant feature that was removed, since our devices will rotate the screen automatically. I will not change this either, but again I can provide a signed cab file for those that wish to have this icon available.
There were many other additions that I don't think you noticed yet. You all should pay attention to the things like "USB HDD", "Bluetooth Settings w/ all profiles" and the updated "Bluetooth Mouse support" just to name a few.
I hope this answers you questions

First of all, I would like to say thanks for this ROM (and all the guys like Ivan & Indra that put a lot of effort into it).
My observations of this ROM:
1. All buttons works perfectly. Volume, Voice Dial etc...
2. ROM is much polished than Ivan's ROM. A lot of Registry tweaks are even included already.
3. Initially after Hard Reset, the ROM felt very sluggish. However, after applying the usual Registry Tweaks this ROM just flies.
4. First time sync with Activesync 4.5 Beta is really fast. Normally it's a pain!
5. Clear Storage now resides in Control Panel as 'System Restore' so does Download Agent.
6. Lots of goodies: PhonePad, Smart Dialing, USB HDD, BT Profiles/Drivers/SIM Access, Clearvue PDF, Voice Speed Dial as well as Pocket Chess.
7. Messaging is now 'Outlook Mobile'
Will observe more Once I got all my softwares installed.
As for now, this ROM looks good.
Cheers!

Looks like the real thing - anybody figured out what the USB HDD applet is for? Couple of new items in the connections tab - a GPS applet and bluetooth mouse settings
And best of all the clock's back in the title bar.

The "USB HDD" app allows you to use your sd card and mobile phone as a "thumb drive or USB Hard-drive" on windows based desktops (2000 and XP) via USB connection without installing any extra drivers.
Hope this answers your question.

Did anyone try Voice Command im afraid to do that.
Jwrightmcps
9th October 2006, 08:47 PM
Why would you be afraid to try the voice command?
Are you talking about the one in the ROM or the MS version?
Because the one in the ROM works fine (it has been tested) and the MS one never worked right in WM5 and I suspect that it never will until MS updates their voice command software.
Hope this helps,

Hi Jwrightmcps,
Thanks so much for this. I downloaded the ROM this morning and plan to flash my Uni later tonight when I get home. I'm very excited to try it out knowing that you have put so much effort to build and test it out.
I would like to keep the screen rotate icon in my Uni. Can you post the cab file for it.
Quick question for the SIM access and also the car kit support. Do you know if this will work also in a BT headset that has a caller ID LCD, I mean can it show the caller's name without any additional BT extension software (like jetware).
Many thanks again for sharing such a great work.

@dumdidum
.....
4. for the german keyboard on english ROM
4a. get a registry editor (like Resco)
4b. search the Change the key
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\Qwerty]
4c. edit - Layout in decimal to 66567
.....
this works for me ;-)

Hi!
First of all as a new member I would like to thank you for the new ROM.
I just flashed it and experienced that the customization freezed (stopped) at the Default Today Plugin.
Now the Extrom has been cleared and after a hard reset I try to manually customize the device.

Thanks Jwrightmcps for the opportunity to test this code prior to the official release.
Initial thoughts: Huge improvement in everyway, My JasJar performs as I originally thought it would a year ago when I bought it. Much more stable and performance is extrely fast now - at last. All this without any modifications to Registry, etc.
My only gripe with WM5 has to be that theres no task manager included, why cant we have it included on the task bar by default? I know I can install numerous other products to achieve this.
This upgrade (AKU3.2) is an absolute necesity for anyone who has a Universal of any flavour. I prefer this Imate version as opposed to the IVAN releases because of all the additionals included.
I actually enjoy using this device at last, exactly one year after I bought it. The JasJar as it was meant to be.
Good work

For all those non-i-mate users that have experienced issues during the Extended ROM applications install.
The reason that some users may have issues is that the Extend ROM contains applications designed only for i-mate's devices, these applications are locked to i-mate IMEI's and therefore will not work on other brands.
This is a list of apps that are IMEI locked to i-mate phones in the Extended ROM:
CA Anti-Virus
i-mate Backgammon
i-mate Blackjack
i-mate 1-View
i-mate e-mail
i-mate WMP 10 Today Plug-in
I will make another version of this ROM for all other devices sometime this week.
Basically I will remove all i-mate applications from the Extended ROM and maybe package it with the MaUpgrade tool, so people won't have to extract the .nbf files anymore. Until then you guys cans just reset the device before the Extended ROM applications are installed (Only non-i-mate users should do this) with no negative side effects.
I hope this clears the issue up for everyone.
Take care,
Jwrightmcps
AGAIN THIS ONLY AFFECTS NON-I-MATE USERS.

This bug is always found in UniversalAKU3.2, even Ivan and even Imate, why ? :(
The bug is .. when i want to use phone pad, i must kickstarted first (i mean, i must go to Start|Program, and then i choose phone pad, by then the phone pad is stable)
But if i go directly to some applications, let say Agile Messenger, and i forgot to kickstart the phone pad, and then I cannot use Phone Pad, I must soft reset and do the kickstart all over again (painfull)
------
In VGA mode, i cannot see the keyboard, i use MrVGA, maybe you can tell me which VGA that suitable for this AKU,
------
By the way, thanx a lot men ..... its really helpfull to me, especially the internet sharing, its really improved, more stable

Yes i noticed the additional buildin improvement of this New AKU 3.2 ROM, just to name a few
1) Additional profiles in the bluetooth manager, printer. security, ftp, file sharing, **A2DP** and PAN...
**A2DP**Wireless Stereo option now becomes Audio/Video when trying to pair New Devices
2) Bluetooth SIM Access- Cool
Sorry i have not test that but how does it work?? Can i access other ppl SIM card throught bluetooth?? keekee : )
3) Bluetooth Mouse support, Thanks Jwrightmcps for this great driver
4) USB HDD, it works great, now dun need to download third party software like WM Storage, it is now bulildin the ROM.
5) GPS control applet, nice addition for GPS users
New Version Window media player v10.3, supports full screen video.
Taskbar NEW Battery Icon
hi Jwrightmcps, can u dun mind also make a cab for ppl who dun need this icon, cos i'm using other third party battery meter ( Batti 2.1) its a freeware
it draws a line on the topbar to indicate battery status very accurate and very easy to visually c the battery status on the topbar. I have upload the cab file for anyone who find this application useful.

After finishing the ROM upgrade, everything is in the default state. The menu animation, the font cache etc...are not tweaked thus making the device sluggish.
BTW, I also use Dopod 900 and I don't have any hardware buttons problem. Anyway, there are also several CAB files on the Dopod ExtendedROM which allow you to remapped the button back to Dopod original setting. You can also replace the i-Mate link with the Dopod one in the Explorer as well as using the AutoConfig for the operator setting with the CAB.
Cheers!

Thanks for the great AKU 3.2 rom, testing it for a day now and my exec still working perpectly and some more features compare to other AKU 3.2 Rom, but one thing i notice and that is the screen rotation icon is gone even if a edit it in the registry still no icon. Jwrightmcps can i ask for the ff:
1. the cab file for the screen rotation because,
2. can you modify the imate extended rom programs so that it will work on our xda exec.
3. what is the use of Bluetooth sim Access in general.
4. what is the use of USB to PC in general.
Lastly and again Thank you for this great and stable rom. keep it up.

I think the best way is to install everything that JWright provided and just use the UNLOCK Tool to delete the I-Mate stuff from the Extension ROM and perform a hard reset. This is for a non-IMate device of course.

Thanks very much for this ROM J. I have always been a fan of your ROMs even the first one's you've released. I still am using your last QTEK ROM as you can see from my signature (with a few modifications).

All functions are working very fast. Tweaks were already in! Amazing !

For all those non-i-mate users that have experienced issues during the Extended ROM applications install.
This is a list of apps that are IMEI locked to i-mate phones in the Extended ROM:
CA Anti-Virus
i-mate Backgammon
i-mate Blackjack
i-mate 1-View
i-mate e-mail
i-mate WMP 10 Today Plug-in
I hope this clears the issue up for everyone.
Take care,
Jwrightmcps
AGAIN THIS ONLY AFFECTS NON-I-MATE USERS.
No, it doesn't.
I HAVE a i-mate JJ and wanted to install the WMP 10 Plugin.
Did not work (error message)
No big deal though.
Otherwise: absolutely GREAT ROM.
Thanks very much for the effort.

After reading this thread I tihnk I'll be sticking with Ivan's latest build for now as it seems a lot cleaner than this one. I do just want to ask though... With three different AKU3.2 builds now available, why aren't the creators of these builds getting their collective experiences together to make the most stable, fast and customisable build around?
It seems like a waste of talent to have these three competing builds like this.

I don't really agree.
Having gone thru Ivan's ROM's from the start up to Beta 13, I have to conclude that the here present JJ ROM is the best up to now.
That doesn't take away any praise from Ivan, he was truly the pioneer of the AKU 3.2 activities, he deserves all our thanks and considerations for that.

One request the "screen rotation" icon please :)
Also I was wondering, is there a way to lock the screen somehow so that is does not rotate automatically? I am using my MDA PRO as a GPS navigation since I got my MDA VARIO II (great device) and I need it to stay in landscape mode. Anybody please let me know ...

I am quite satisfied with this ROM's stability and performance. Great job Jwrightmcps.
The only bug I found with this ROM, is that the Tasks app does not sort tasks by Due Date when the All Active Tasks filter is used, but the same occured with Ivan's ROM as well. What I would like to know though, how do I now use my Jasjar as a wireless modem and were can I acquire the Screen Rotation cab? TIA

HI,
can you elaborate this the one in your post:
"Initially after Hard Reset, the ROM felt very sluggish. However, after applying the usual Registry Tweaks this ROM just flies."
what usual tweaks are you using to speed up you uni.
Thank you so much.
All WM2005 registry tweaks have been discussed in details in many threads in this forum. Some of the tweaks have even been included in this ROM.
To cut a long story short, download the demo of Tweaks2Ks and apply these tweaks:
1. Video: Speed up display
2. Disable all menu animations
3. Check the Speed up SD/MMC tranfer rate
4. Check the WM2005 optimum Cache size
After than soft-reset and immediately after that you'll feel the speed increase.

Sorry, but i think this rom is to buggy for me.
I have tried this rom for 2 days now and found the following problems:
-Sometimes slow responce when pushing the start button.
-The device feels a bit slow.
-Poor quality of radio ROM . (1.11)
-My device totaly froze 2 times when i used my Jabra 250V BT headset and run TomTom.
Returning back to Ivan's Beta 13 (very fast) with T-Mobile Radio 1.10.03.
This ROM works best for me.
Nothing personal to the creator of this JASAR ROM, but i think it needs some more development.

Sadely , the same bug persists on all aku3.2 roms . , System fails to retreive icons from exe files on the sdcard (sandisk ultra II 2gb) leading to the ugly generic windows default icons on today applications e.g : spb plus , clounch , handy shortcuts , and Above all the start menu itself.... how can we call it windows if it is devoid of icons :( ????????????

I'm finally finished flashing my Uni. Phew..
It took me at least 5 attempts (fail ones) before finally its getting through.
All failed attempts due to I was using my laptop with USB 2.0 ports to connect and flash the Uni. None was successful. Its always stucked during flashing the radio.
I was finally using my older machine with only one USB 1.0 port and the flashing went through smoothly without any glitch.
I'm running the new ROM right now, and I must say... it is really good.
I'm very happy with it. Thanks, Jwrightmcps!

Using this for nearly two days now. My personal experience is this is much more complete and stable than other 3.2 roms I have used. My main gripe with Ivan's rom was that the radio seemed to disconnect itself from the phone so to speak (see relevant thread). This happened at least 3 times a day. 1.5 days later on this rom, and still going strong. Thats not to take anything away from Ivan, I will be keeping a close eye on his work :)
Anyone that is having problems that others may not, it would be wise to do a hard reset after the upgrade, and start from scratch. Using any backup programs or images afterwards is bound to cause problems.
With regard to the different aku 3.2 versions, a little competetion never hurt anyone ;) ... Which is the best rom? My answer to that is, the best one is which ever one works best for the individual!! For me, it is this one.
Keep up the good work guys..

I'm testing everything and I have everything runs so smoothly.
All hardware buttons are working fine for me (My Uni is imate Jasjar).
I like the WMP today plug-in. Is it possible to install it in other WM5 devices? Do you have the cab file?
Jwrightmcps, I would like to request the cab file to enable the screen rotate in the system tray. I use this function occasionally.
I noticed the Wireless status - today plug in is not clickable. I have the same plug-in turned on in my other WM5 device with AKU2 and it should be clickable. Can you check it. But it shows the wireless status just fine.
I want to test the SIM-access BT profile but I have no more BT headset with caller ID anymore to test. Anybody with BT headset with Caller ID screen please test and report this, please. Especially with the Nokia-HS-12W.
I just have it for few hours, so for the BT stability, I still cannot tell. I hope we are not longer experiencing 'BT shut down by itself' anymore with this ROM.
Last question, what is the phone pad thing you guys talking about? Is this a new thing I should be aware of? Also, I cannot find the equalizer (something mentioned as the new feature).

Hello, a few issues:
Could you please supply separate rom / ext rom / radio files? I have an AKU 3.2 extended rom based on Ivan's that I want to use.
Also need an uncompiled version of your ext rom so it can be cooked as necessary. But obviously still need your version of autorun & your config.txt file.
Also like many other users, I find the Cyberon 1.6 voice command software useless in the car. It doesn't recognize your voice over the road noise for love nor money. In actual fact the MS voice command 1.5 was the only voice controller that has ever worked properly! Is there nothing you can do to tickle this application to work with AKU 3.2??
While on 3.2, I am an experienced upgrader and still don't ultimately see the big difference between 3.2 and the current ROM release 107 from O2, besides some nicer icons.
Admittedly I havn't tried push email yet but why do we need 3.2 over the current AKU in a few words?
If it is important and we benefit I suppose I will continue regardless but I find MS voice command fantastic & I miss the press / press & hold funtionality of the voice recorder button. (Havn't tried yours yet, but noticed this missing in Ivan's beta 9 version)
I hope you can reply to this one...

1st off thanks for this ROM. Ok I just finished installing the OS part only of this JJ AKU 3.2 beta, am just finishing up the install and settings of my usual apps... and will be testing this ROM, so far the only thing out of place to me is I have both Voice Commander and Voice Speed Dial [maybe because I am using a dopod 900 Ext ROM which uses VC]. So far so good the ROM is snappy and seems stable enough. Will now play around with Bluetooth and the USB-HDD function and see how that works. :)
--
I am using it with latest Dopod 900 ExtROM and Orange Radio 1.13 no issues so far. I did a clean install of all my apps and data [did not restore from backup]
--
I really wish there was an easier way to change the splash screen though... I kinda like the O2 or Dopod splash screens better than i-mates' no offense to JASJAR owners...

Other thing I have noticed since installing, I only had a weak signal at work before, but with this radio stack, it loses the signal very easily, and spends up to 5 minutes searching before finding it before. The old radio stack (1.09 I think?) would hold onto weak signals.
Could be coincidence, but seems odd it's only happend since yesterday when I installed this.

Having successfully installed the ROM. I have a problem. I have unlocked the extended ROM using Buzz's tool and removed all the items from it, thinking i would be able to install to it. but when i do a soft reset all the stuff comes back! It didnt use to?
Also it seems any piece of software i install (Except Handymenu) gives me the Unsigned app problem and wont run. i have run the SDKCERTS cab file which seems to have installed OK, but doesn't help.
These are both big issues for me as i need to install Resco Explorer & Registry etc...

I upgraded my Orange SPV M5000 to this ROM image 3 days ago. So far, I'm very happy with outcome.
The bluetooth stack seems much more robust and stable than the Qtek9000 AKU 2 ROM, which I had previously. No problems connecting to, and maintaining connection with, Parrot bluetooth in car kit, and SE stereo bluetooth headphones.
Device seems more responsive, less of a tendency to hang. Much faster reboot after soft reset (was ~1min, now about 20sec.)

First, you have to enable the SIM Access feature from the BT SIM Access application.
Second, in order for it to work, I believe you have to store the contact name and phone number in your SIM card (like tradisional GSM phone).
When the call comes, if the entry exists in the SIM phone book, it should display the caller name in your BT display.
Can you pls test and report it back? Thanks!

The attached file contains a backup file and dll file, i used them once in a previous roms and was working, u may try it but consider that u may need to hard reset your system again, either wait for few days till i can test it myself or try the following yourself and tellus the result:
Install the accert accert2 files then restore from the backup file then copy the dll file to windows directory then softreset. Or do the reverse, i.e. Copy dll and restore backup file then install the accert and accert2 files.
Best wishes

Hello All!
I must say thank to Jwrightmcps for this ROM, it works excellent so far.
Only thing I found is that SBSH Contact Breeze was freezing most of the times, however it did not on TMobile newest ROM. But this is the less problem I should have in my life :) I uninstalled CB.
The MDA works even faster after the registry tweaks in system storage (cache things). I am using the device without any extrom content (hardreset after extrom empty) and I am satisfied.

Take care,
Jwrightmcps

I don't think so. If you tried one of his earlier ROMs, you would know this is his own creation. Give him a big credit for actually doing a better job than the different operators. Plus I don't think any operators are going to bother for new ROM releases when there is already a Universal replacement on the way. This has happened before, so expect the worst.

This is the first time for me when i try a non-official rom and i have to say that this rom is way better.
Thank you again!

I don't think so. If you tried one of his earlier ROMs, you would know this is his own creation. Give him a big credit for actually doing a better job than the different operators. Plus I don't think any operators are going to bother for new ROM releases when there is already a Universal replacement on the way. This has happened before, so expect the worst.
well if he actually made this rom...then i guess my statement speaks of efforts...
the only problem i found was the HUGE memory leak in this release
i constantly go below 20 mb (18-16mb) when in aku2 i never went below 20

Hi,
I'm interested in the AKU 3.2 localized in spanish. Any info on the release of localized versions from manufacturers?
Thanks for all the effort you put in to bring these great ROMs !

Hi Everybody,
I am following this thread from the very beginning, and I have installed this AKU 3.2 ROM seeing how other people react.
It is better in every way then my official Qtek AKU 2 ROM:
- Activesync 4.5 Beta now works via USB and via BT perfectly on XP, this was never possible with my previous ROM !!
- I can watch news channels fullscreen with WMP 10
I use it for two days, and it is very stable ! Jwrightmcps, thanks for your efforts again !!

Thanks for the Reply Jwrightmcps
"ALL" hardware buttons should work, as the do on all my test phones (7 JASJAR's) Please check this again.
I'm using a Dopod 900 in this firmware upgrade of AKU 3.2
1: Hardware buttons not responding anymore!!
Another user has the same problems as was feedback by me, althought he dun really mind, pls investigate further as i understand u have 7 jasjars as testset but i'm using Dopod 900 dun know if its related..., i believe it is not an islolated case cos the feedback speaks for itself. Hope u dun mind cos i'm also trying to test try this beta and hopefully we can all help to make it as bug free as possible before final release.
Thanks Jwrightmcps for your quick respond on my feedbacks, hope u can help me solve the hardware button issue faced on my Dopod 900 this time. Thanks in advance!!
FIRSTLY, I'd like to thank cktlcmd so much for guiding me to install, and to JWrightscmps for such a wonderful job he has done that benefited so many die-hard HTC Universal or aka users.
SECONDLY, I'd like to verify that Thiam77 observation is true.
the light button does not work anymore after installation; so now i use power on/off button to turn on wake-up the machine.
Hopefully, JW could resolve this when release his rom for non i-Mate machine.
My machine now has following status after installation
rom ver. 1.90.94 wwe
rom date 11/01/06
radio version 1.11.00
protocol ver. 42.45.p8
extrom ver. 1.30.230wwe
btw, Im using Dopod900.

Just tried this one out. Seems great.
Although, i´m missing one thing.
When i´m connected with gprs/3g and want to disconnect, previously i clicked the reception symbol, and chose disconnect.. Now i have to enter profiles and click Data connection. Why is that? or am i "missing" something?

First, you have to enable the SIM Access feature from the BT SIM Access application.
Second, in order for it to work, I believe you have to store the contact name and phone number in your SIM card (like tradisional GSM phone).
When the call comes, if the entry exists in the SIM phone book, it should display the caller name in your BT display.
Can you pls test and report it back? Thanks!
Hi
Done as instructed but still only number appears not caller's name.

I'm kind of expecting it would work finally, out of the box, without any extra software. The Nokia headset is a nice addition to the Universal if every function works well.

Hi pdawhore,
I'm new to any of the xda-developers' forums. This is my first post. I've just finished updating my Xda Exec to this same JW's AKU3.2 ROM, and have observed the same effect as yours, although my router is D-Link's. This is how I fixed it. Hope this works for you as well:
Tap Start -> Settings -> Connections tab -> Wi-Fi;
On the 'Wireless' tab, tap & hold over your LAN's SSID, tap 'Edit' on the popup menu;
Select 'Connects to: The Internet', tap 'Next';
Select the appropriate Authentication and Data Encryption methods according to your router's settings;
UNCHECK the box marked 'The key is automatically provided', fill in your router's Network key instead and tap 'Next';
Finally, check (or uncheck) IEEE 802.1x network access control, also according to your router's settings (mine is UNCHECKED) and tap 'Finish'.
I really hope your Universal connects to your netgear router this way.
Cheers !

Everyone,
I will be posting a version of this ROM for all those non-i-mate branded devices this weekend (to help with the ExtROM installs). Basically it will be the same CE ROM (minor changes) with a different Extended ROM. I will also post another one for i-mate brands and some cab files you guys have asked for too.
As a side note:
I have been fairly busy with my work and haven't had much time to check the post here and would like to thank everyone that have been helping answer the questions of fellow users. Thanks!
Take care,

Use Total Commander to delete or cut and paste the Extension ROM files. I assume you are using the built-in File Explorer, which does not work in deleting the contents of the Ext ROM thus returns after a soft or hard reset.

Read The Manual. The thing you discribed is an option.
Go to START, SETTINGS, BUTTONS, tab LOCK and here you can find your answer.
For the RegistryHacking/CabFileMaking People:
HKLM\HARDWARE\OEM\KEYBD\Keylock
1 = for Lock all buttons except...
0 = for Do not lock buttons.

I have created some new Extended ROMs for non-i-mate branded devices as promised. However before I package them into the ROM update I would like a few people to try them out. So could some QTEK, O2 and T-Mobile users please load the new Extended ROM and let me know if it works correctly(no lock-ups during the cab installs). I have made a version for each brand, so you will not need the MaUpgradeUt_NoID tool to flash, just choose the correct version from below for your device (However these are only for WWE devices).

This custom ROM seemed very attractive so I took the plunge. Unfortunately, after install, Jasjar just would not boot anymore (Brick state I presume). Could it be due to bootloader, I believe mine is at v0.6??
I then tried Ivan's ROM and that boots fine and is smooth enough.
Any ideas what I could be doing wrong. THX and keep up the good work.

for those having backlight problems...well the ROM is absolutely fabulous.. when you install the ROM it also installs REGISTRY TWEAKS at the same time because the jwright configured it to be set-up the quickest possible way right after hard-reset(my deduction)..
anyways gong back to your problem...
A.
go to settings
go to system
go to backlight
check turn-off backlight if not used for 30 sec.
B.
go to settings
go to buttons
uncheck lock all buttons except power

ALso do you know of a step by step menthod of UNLOCKING and deleting/modifying files in this version of the extended rom? Please help....
ThanksTry this unlocker. After installing simply restart your device and you will see Extended ROM folder in the explorer. When you open the folder you can edit/delete/copy files in the extended rom.

if you are referring the the OS language pack this would be impossible, because that would only be on a new device that has never been used before.
Hi, since there is a source for the AKU 3.2 ROM (obviously :-) ), why is there no source for the language pack? As far as I understand the subject, I only need the files for my language to put somewhere, maybe in /Windows/System, right?
Greetings,
Andreas

I have created another set of Extended ROMs for non-i-mate branded devices. I was able to remove all the IMEI locks in the cab files. Can you non-i-mate guys please try it out and let me know if they work right. Again I have made a version for each brand, so you will not need the MaUpgradeUt_NoID tool to flash, just choose the correct version from below for your device (However these are only for WWE devices).
I have also created a few cabs that you guys wanted. They are attached below as well.
Thanks,

I created one extended rom for your aku 3.2 rom. It's a lot better than your extended rom. What's inside:
1.Skype
2.WMP10 Today Plugin
3.Certificate and Security Disable Patch
4.Softkey Changer - change softkeys from Settings-Personal
5.VJCandela - use flashlight as torch
6.Backlight key is programable and is set to activate flashlight as torch
7.Rotate Icon is fixed
8.Added some reg fixes(bluetooth obex;no menu animation;IE button on keyboard goes to offline default page instead of operator's page;message delivery report;4-Way Nav Pad in IE scrolls instead of selecting links and some other fixes)
9.After the customization the Extended ROM unlocks itself and becomes visible.
Try it - it won't hurt you ;)

I have created some new Extended ROMs for non-i-mate branded devices as promised. However before I package them into the ROM update I would like a few people to try them out. So could some QTEK, O2 and T-Mobile users please load the new Extended ROM and let me know if it works correctly(no lock-ups during the cab installs). I have made a version for each brand, so you will not need the MaUpgradeUt_NoID tool to flash, just choose the correct version from below for your device (However these are only for WWE devices).

I flashed the ROM today with the O2 package on my Exec. On the basis of less than one day's use, here are my observations:
- it's stable
- it's faster than the latest O2 ROM (which is some variety of AKU 2 ROM)
- I had to use MaUpgradeUt_NoID to flash the ROM. Setup and cutomisation were fine except that it stalls on the Default_TodayPlugin cab. I gather this is because it's an i-mate plugin and is doing an IMEI check. Someone (tsekov?) has been kind enough to post a version that doesn't do the check and installs correctly.
- I had to enter MMS, WAP and O2 Mobile Web info by hand. Maybe this wouldn't have been necessary had customisation not stalled.
- all my software reinstalls without problem, except v2.1 of Batti that seems to make a bit of a mess of the screen up by the Start menu.
Overall, it's a really good, fast ROM and I'll keep on using it. My only whinge is that the keyboard backlight doesn't come on despite my fiddling with timeouts and covering the sensor.

AS Cocky and rude as it may seem, some of these would be excellent to add.
#9, #5, #6, #3 and #8 does sound really cool.
Personally, I would like the ext rom unlocked, then to wipe it clean and use it for installing programs, storage, etc.
With Sprite Backup, and your ROM, I plan on building the ultimate rom.. One that keeps getting better as time goes on and new programs installed and configured. Then they are backed up so I can always replace my device and be right back to my "ultimate rom".
A new rom, as cool as yours is, is nothing as good as a customized to my personal settings and likes.

I agree - having tried Ivan's and this ROM my preference is for this. The conclusion is subjective and based partly on the professional feel of the installation process, inclusion of some truely useful components and the overall speed. Have been running for several days now without a reset - perfect and the first time I have achieved this since buying the Universal.
For info I run:
Pocket Breeze
Magic Button
Agenda Fusion (which I leave running all the time)
Memmaid
Opera
TCPMP
Total Commander
Wififofum2
Tweaks2k2
apReminder+
I run in VGA mode (MvrTrueVGA + VJBigphone) and put up with some overlap of the taskbar icons.
Battery life seems no worse than any other and phone signal quality is fine.
My only complaint is that I no longer seem to be able to turn off a data connection by selecting the 3G/GPRS icon and selecting disconnect. Is this just me? What is the best way of doing so now?
PS I don't want to take this thread off message but I have never, in the UK, been able to get a 3G connection - In germany it dropped straight in so the handset works. But I am in central London and would have thought that if one could get 3G anywhere it would be here? If anyone has any advice on this please PM or start a new thread on 3G coverage (O2 network) in UK.
PPS - My MMS is working fine but I had to manually input the O2 settings.
Serious thanks to Ivan and Jwrightmcps for their respective efforts and each developing ROMs that far outperform counterparts provided by the official providers.

Ever since I've upgraded to the Imate AKU3.2 version, I frequently (once a day) get the following message:
Pocket PC Networking
Unable to obtain a server-assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings.
When I get the message, I switch over to check if anything is running, but theres nothing reported. It doesnt cause any issues, I simply acknowledge the warning, and all is OK.
Does anyone know what process is doing this? Is this a bug of sorts?

I have to say this : This is byfar the fastest ROM i have ever seen for my Uni (JJ)...
Its almost flawless.. and though if one should want to, some tweaks could be found to the existing ROMs but i rather choose to enjoy the tons of goodies in it than sob about the one odd thing not suiting me..
i am more than happy with it overall... especially the bluetooth (sim access and mouse)...
The speed is lightning fast... nothing like i've ever seen before on my device...
The USB HDD bit comes as a blessing for the likes of me..
Though cant find a noticable difference in Camera Quality ( as i mostly use Coolcamera) but ya, am very happy to see the new & better icon... :)
Thanks alot buddy...

For all those who want to disconnect the GPRS and are missing the option in the G-Baloon...
Use the good old trick... Keeping the Red Phone Button(Disconnect) pressed for about 4-5 seconds disconnects your GPRS.
Although not a very refined way but am sure the big bosses will come up with something... Meanwhile... lets make-do with this solution...

Hello,
I'm rather a rookie on this forum, formerly been following (almost) everything on BuzzDev's forum while enjoying all upgrades to the Himalaya.
That was swell :-)
Now I switched to an HTC Universal (actually t-mobile MDA-Pro) and i m very happy with this major awesome Mini-computer/phone.
Sadly to say there is nothing much going on on BuzzDev for the Universal (at least on the point of Rom-updating) and I switched to this site.
Thanks though Buzz and all the others at BuzzDev. You really made my Himalaya experience a great one :-)
I allready downloaded and installed the beta2 rom from Indra9110, which works rather well (up to almost everything). Heel erg bedankt Indra !

Managed to upgrade after second attempt (upgraded bootloader first and downloaded the rom again). All seems pretty stable and quick so far.
Anyway, I can see CF2 SP1 is within the ROM but still some little programs that run under 'Framework2.0' just don't want to run anymore (e.g: C2C).
The other thing is although I know I'm slowing it down by using the SPB suite, Jasjar turns on when being called after 3 rings then starts ringing after another 3or4 rings which only leaves a couple of rings left before the call is missed... Is there something I don't know?
Finally, bluetooth multi-connections still has a hard time dealing with BT-Headset and BT-GPS both V1.2 specially when a call is terminated the bt-gps is ditched as well then is picked up again after about a minute.
Very impressed with your work, keep it comin'

one last thing... could u include the real full voice dial software and not the stripped down one???? i could provide you with a cab of that..
P.S. you mentioned that you have increased the paging pool from 4 to 6 mb ... i had read somewhere here that it had no preformance improvement... could this be the reason that i am missing 2mbs of my prog memoray when i start the device???

Hi Jwrightmcps,
First of all I would like to say thank you for the great work you have done so far. I have the .94 at the moment.
Please allow me to share my findings.
I was also missing the Screen Rotate icon, sometimes I browsing the web in landscape with 'folded PDA'. The program which puts it back was welcomed.
Still there is one thing I'm missing: the 'Running Programs' icon. Was it removed or I overlooked something? (Maybe it was never in your ROMs, I do not know. I had it in the T-Mobile ROM in the Start Menu). Update: Sorry, probably it was the Memory (which can be found in Settings). Nevertheless I miss it very much...
In the Wireless Plugin the WIFI status sometimes disappears... Usually after turning off WLAN. In this case the Bluetooth icon will be on the left.
Finally a small typo error... First I could not find the .96 version on the front page, because .94 is written in the message body...
Once again, thank you for the great ROM.
Best regards,

PS: is there a way to redefine the e-mail and t-zoned key on the MDA Pro? (I do not know how these buttons called on on other machines. They are the neighbours of the Windows start button.)
PSS: I also faced the white screen someone mentioned earlier...

Hi,
It is there, in the middle of the first message. Just the number was mistyped. (Look at my message just above you.)

My first impression is very positive indeed. One niggle though. The apps I install do not appear in the Remove Programs list in the control panel :-S

Download the ROM file again; I suspect that your copy is corrupted.

HI, On numerous threads they say that one should upgrade the bootloader version. Sorry for the amateur questions but:
1) what is a bootloader and how does it relate to Rom CE, Ext Rom and radio??
2) Also how do find the version of the bootloader on my Universal?
Thanks

The Bootloader is like the BIOS on your PC. It contains information for the device itself. Newer AKU's require that bootloaders be a certain version to support them.
You can check the bootloader version by putting your device into bootloader mode (by holding the "Backlight" and "Power" buttons while resetting the device) then looking at the version listed at the bottom.
Hope this answers your question,

I am not sure what your guys are experiencing but my keyboard backlight works fine (the actual keyboard lighting up). Maybe you should try covering up the little sensor or going into a dark room to verify.
Anyone else having this issue?
Thanks,

backlight works with no issues whatsoever. I have a silicone case which covers the sensor thingie so you may want to try and cover that up and test it.

even after downloading it 5 times I get a corrupted file. I also tried to decompress it with several programs. No luck.
Could somebody who has a working copy upload it again or post here in the forum?
Thanks
