If someone has posted this already then sorry, but i havent seen it here, just on another topic somewhere...
Anyway, I was browsing around this morning and came across a prodigy 2.47.11 radio rom, downloaded it and wouldnt update.. so i extracted the file from the installer and packaged it back up to work on my cingular 8125... And i have noticed a huge difference in the radio all day.. places i dropped doesnt seem to drop anymore... blah blah blah.. i uploaded it so you can try it for yourself..
This is the radio only.. flashing this will not erase your settings..

Wow! It DOES seem better, at least it seems I see more bars after a few glasses of wine:-) Well, my house is in the hills and the reception sucks, but it seems more robust after this. Will know more tomorrow morning on my way to the office....
Thanks!

Seem like a higher build number, guessing it's a newer rom then our cingular 2.25.11, interested in trying it out but would this in any chance brick my phone or do I need to CID unlock ...or it doesn't touch the bootloader part.
if it's safe to go without have to CID unlock or change setting and programs I'll give it a try. Please reponse back ASAP wanna try it too.

I've just applied this updated RADIO ROM.
Update procedure is succesfully completed but nothing is changed...
My device is still with Radio ROM V02.07.10 and ROM 2.18.7.3.
Do you have any idea what could be the problem ?

Just updated my phone to it. I get full bar at work anyway (less than 100 feet from a tower), so I'll check it out from home tonight. There's a couple of spots that it isn't really that great.
Thanks for posting it!

I flashed this new Radio this AM and it seems to be much more responsive compared to the Cingular 2.25. My office is in a tough cell coverage area. I have an external 4 ft. Yagi antanae hooked to an amplifier and wireless repeater inside my office. Cell coverage inside is usually pretty shakey. This Radio picked it up instantly and its strength changes quickly as I walk through an area where my wireless repeater wont reach.

i cant be much help on this, except i found it somewhere on this board, had to extract from the prodigy update utility(cause it originally wouldnt flash on my 8125), and put it into the no_id update utility, then flashed it on my phone yesterday am, noticed an improvement so i gave it to you guys... and thats about all i know about it...
i dont know if it will work for a G4, but all you would need to do is get the G4 update utility and throw the nk.nbf into a folder with it... i cant garuantee it will work, but if someone wants to try it there is the steps...
as far the comparison to the cingular 2.25.11 radio... in my testing i would say that this radio hands down beats the cingular radio

I just installed on my MDA to check it out. I get a good signal at work here, but have more problems at home. I will post back tonight if theres an improvement.
Just plug in you rphone and run the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID file on your PC. It should take care of the rest. Only take sa few second to update, even tho it says it will take 10 mins in teh update util.

Biggest problem I have with the 2.25 radio rom is how long it takes to reestablish signal once it loses it. Have you noticed any changes on this one?
Also, any status reports on the project? Have you heard from Daz yet? I was holding off on installing the beta because I have been too busy with work to either take the time to play with my phone or risk it not working.

Working great!
2.25 was changing signal level from 5 to 1 bar and back to 5 with no reasons.
2.47 has 5 bars permanently! :)

Ok, i think it is related with this update...i installed it and now it takes less time to stablish a gprs connection, and i think it is using less traffic with my agile messenger (1 connection, 1 contact in the list, i mean, low low traffic use) about 50% less...but im going to test this more time...

I've definitely noticed a difference with this radio ROM. Seems to me like I get signal faster. Also seems to be a bit more sensitive.
No change really in my basement, but then again, I've got so much EMI down here, I'm not surprised. But, even still, on the call or two I've made down here so far, it seems to be doing well, despite not having all bars.
I'll keep trying it out. The real test for sure will come this weekend when we go up to a friends who live out in the boonies..

No,it's just a radio rom, it doesn't change any settings etc.
Thanks for help with the rom!
But in my case the only improvement I've noticed is that it finds the network faster. the reception is still crap!

Today I noticed it on the toilet of my work :)
Normally I had 0-1 bars (usually 1 bar when holding my hand up in the air with my phone in it ;) ), today I had 2 bars!

This is a follow up on my post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1027881#post1027881
In short what I observed, been an SF Bay T-Mobile customer:
- radio 2.25.11 (t-mobile):
Responsive to get back the signal, usually get back on the network in 60s or less
4 or 5 bars where I know I have signal (don't know if this means a lot...)
- radio 2.25.11 (cingular): I haven't check reception performance extensively.
I abandonded this ROM after noticing that this radio rom needs more than 4 or 5 mins to get back on the network (t-mobile net). In short, it's not responsible at all to regain the signal after having lost it... (at least for me)
- radio 2.47.11: as good as the 2.25.11 from t-mobile at least.
Difficult to said it's better, as I have not observe anything drastic so far, but the responsiveness and signal quality are good.

I have it installed now for one day, I can't say it better .......... yet, maybe after a few days. I also never experienced dropped calls before and I call a lot (404 minutes the last 1.5 days)
The battery drainage I can confirm, although it could be something else ofcourse.
However 2 times today my phone crashed and I had to reset it to get it going again.

11th October 2006, 08:02 PM
k tether connects faster.. way less of that "searching" crap.. even in my basement im able to pull a steady 1 bar where i got the dreaded "searching". i do notice the battery going a little quicker, however.. u can even it back out by changing ur display brightness to 1 before the darkest setting, oh and after upgrading to this radio it turned my "recieve beams" back on which causes battery drain so make sure u check to make sure urs isnt checked.
all in all this radio seems slightly better.

I gained one bar at my home to show 3 instead of 2 now. I also noticed more battery drain. At night I leave mine on and would get maybe a 8% drop in the battery by morning(10pm to 8am). Last night it dropped 15% sitting overnight. I can live with the increased battery drain for the trade off of better reception since I charge mine daily at work.

I downloaded the new radio file and attempted to flash the same way as any other rom. Unfortunately at the end of instruction the software will not confirm what version the unit will be flashed with. Then when clicked on next I get the typical flashing screen except my unit shuts down and will nor re-boot. The I get the recovery screen... have to remove the battery... etc.
I have the 8125 based on G3 chips with all up to date upgrades. The unit is also CID unlocked.
Any idea how to properly upgrade the radio?
Thanks

Well I did a test today, with two 8125 with molski 2.26 rom. One with radio rom 2.25 and the other with 2.47.11. At the same place the 2.25 had one less bar then the 2.47.11. In many places it was the same result, 2.47.11 does seem to have a stronger signal rom. I also notice when the signal is lost totally, just by pressing the send bottom it will regain to full bar, almost in 1 sec with the 2.47.11. unlike the 2.25 which takes a long time to recover sigal, sometimes softreset.
As for the battery drain, I believe that is true in a way, cause I notice my phone drains faster then before. But then again, what is a phones good for, if you don't have good signal and just a full battery eh?
If I notice anything else I'll post it up here guys and gals, peace.

ok... just did some testing... in my brief testing the 2.47 radio was actually slower then the 2.25 radio when transferring data over an Edge connection.
I did this as scientifically as possible. All tests were done with the phone in the exact same place, and all tests were performed the same exact way. The phone showed a 100% signal on both radio versions.
I did 4 tests on each radio version. I did a 100k speed test 3 times, and then a single 200k test... here is what happened.

I noticed some difference for the Settings->Phone (or dialpad, Menu, Options).
I have ROM 2.2.6.10.2 WWE, before it was Radio Version 02.25.11, it would take a long time to launch that phone option screen, I guess it was searching through the device and storage card for the ring tones (mp3, wma, etc.). After upgrade to 2.47.11 radio, it comes up so quick, a huge difference! yes, i still have many media files on the card.
Anyone notice the similar behavior before and after?

I went from 2.25 to 2.47 on a T-Mobile MDA, G3. I get an extra bar at home (normal 1/2 goes to 2/3) but the thing that is very remarkable is when I turn the GSM off and turn it back on, it used to take over a minute to connect; now it takes 15 seconds.
I will test it at the office; normally when I leave my office, I lose the signal and it takes me all the way to my car to reconnect. (With the original ROM took 2/3 of the way, the same as the treo it replaced.) This is a sharp test of how long it takes to find a signal.

Would this radio only work best with certain cooked roms or should it in theory work with any rom?

Same here. I'm also installing back the 2.25.11.
It didn't improve my reception at home anyway, and yesterday it lost the signal without a reason for half an hour in the place where the previous rom had always 2 bars.

I installed it yesterday on my Cingular 8100 with Molski´s 2.26.10.2 WWE ROM here in germany with my provider O2 and it works like a charm! Here in work I got or rather had places where I did not have any reception at all or minimal reception and now I got plenty of it. People that call me state that I sound crisper and clearer and I also had to put down the volume because I hear the caller also much clearer. This is absolutely an improvement to the allready improved ROM from Molski and I think he also incorporated it in his newest ROM but I am not sure ´bout that.
Have a nice weekend all of you!

i wonder if its more optimised for a US network bearing in mind they use a different type of network to us europeans and so if we try it over here it doesn't like it?! The other explanation for such a patchy response is maybe its the differences between G3 & G4 wizards and other handsets? Think i might stick with my 2.25.11 until i see any conclusive UK proof

Definitely an improvement. On my drive up the hills I used to drop calls regularly, now I don't, at the same location. It shows one bar there, but I guess that's good enough not to drop (now it's almost as good as the Verizon CDMA phone I had before.)
GPRS also feels a bit faster, but in view of the tests on the previous pages, it may simply be that it would drop at times before, while now it is staying connected.
No crashes at all in three days:-)

The 2.47 radio rom is much faster to acquire a signal than the 2.25 I was using. Walking from my office, the fastest I had ever acquired a signal was about half way to my car, but with 2.25 I was usually reaching the car before acquiring a signal. With 2.47 I have a signal in much less than half of the time, 15 seconds!
This is a dramatic improvement for me, and a significantly stronger signal both at home and in the office.

i have seen people complain of this on different threads with different roms and different radios.. The radio is only for gsm/gprs and does not have anything to do with the bluetooth or wifi... i think its a 3rd party app thats causing it, i know the programs on my rom are stable, but besides those, what else do you have installed?

A question,
I just updated my radio rom from 2.25 to 2.47 this evening. If one day I decided to do a hard reset (settings/ clear storage), will it reinstall the old 2.25 radio rom or the new updated 2.47 radio rom?
sk0t

semuts, No, it won't. I've done a hard reset or two since I put the 2.47.11 radio ROM on there. It stays.
And, speaking of it, I think I'm going to go back to a different ROM. Admittedly, this one definitely seems to work better. The thing that's driving me nuts (and I see others going nuts because of it too) is the decrease in battery life. For the gains it gave me, I'd rather keep the battery life. The few areas I was really hoping for improvement in netted me zero improvement over where I was having problems before. (That said, I'm not surprised, and expected little if any. Joys of timbuck-fucking-too.)

I have six networks named T-Mobile in addition to T-Mobile H, T-Mobile SK and T-Mobile HR, three named TIM BRAZIL.
I tried adding some networks, but there are thirteen labelled US T-Mobile (nn), where nn ranges from 16 to 80.
So I added these to see what would happen, and the answer is nothing, once it connects to the network, the list that comes back is the same as the original list; I guess it is overwritten by T-Mobile. Perhaps that resets the tower list, though.
It could also be that flashing the radio rom resets the tower list, yielding a temporary performance improvement.

its great that it has better reception and reconnecting to the network but, does it improve the call quality? I am using it here in the UK, it works fine but i wouldnt say it is noticeably better than 2.25 (cingular). I am on O2 in London so i always get good reception anyway. I am inclined to believe that it just shows extra bars, extra bars do not necessarily indicate better reception!

I'm in the UK and its definately an improvement over 2.25. It is clearer and when there is a signal it is stronger. Unfortunately due to T-Mobile coverage being crap I still have a lot of dead spots!! I also have Molskis pre-30mb free ROM. The upgrade is dead simple, just download the radio rom that was linked at the beginning of this forum entry, and run it. It will perform what looks like a full ROM flash but it is only the Radio that gets flashed.

I was using the Cingular 2.25 radio before the upgrade. Decent signal but rarely above 3 bars. After flashing the 2.47, signal is rarely below 4 bars, and even when signal drops , regains full bars in seconds. Internet speed seems faster with 2.47. I have noticed the battery does drain faster, but something I'm willing to accept. In buildings where I would lose signal before, 2.47 retains full strength. Overall I'm satisfied with the new radio. Thanks a bunch Shogun !

I would assume yes as it upgrades everything on the phone unless it detects that its already a higher version. I would advise switching if i were you guys i installed it last nite and its great.
Only 1 tip for people with a G4 device you need to download the package right at the front of this thread to get the radio ROM and then you need to download the G4 update utility and copy the file (i think its called nk.nbf or similar) into the directory of the G4 updater, if people like i'll upload the one i did

it SHOULD not erase your data, you are only flashing your radio, not the OS or Ext rom... and it should be a safe bet, no one has reported data loss, but with that being said... all phones and enviroments are different, what works for everyone else doesnt necessarily mean it will work the same for you.... i would give it a 99.9% chance that you will data will remain...

i'm running molski's 30Mb rom and the 2.47.11 radio but i flashed the molski rom then the radio so thats about the only way to do it for now. I know he is testing the 2.47.11 rom on his device so we may see it in future releases.

First let me congratulate you on your use of the english language! Second in answer to your question yes it will work with the 02 Mini S because that is an HTC Wizard and this works in Wizards as well as others, yes it is also a free ROM all you will get however is the radio stack to upgrade that there is no other software included.
sorry, i'm vietnames and i can't speak E good!

G3 or G4 use good for O2miniS?

If your upgrade fails (RGB screen, but OK again afer removing battery and restart), you should proceed like this:
1) disconnect from PC
2) turn off wizard (press powerbutton until confirm dialog, confirm)
3) power on wizard while keeping camera button pressed
4) you are now again in the rgb screen!
5) connect to PC with USB cable
6) go to device manager, you'll find a Win CE USB device that is not properly installed. this is your problem :-)
7) right click, update drivers, confirm if necessary
8) update your radio rom!

GRRREAT!! Two notes:
1. When the upgrade failed, I just did a soft reset and everything came back. So if you try and fail... DON'T ASSUME YOU NEED TO DO A HARD RESET!!
2. One wierd thing was Windows claimed that the upgraded driver was unsigned. Isn't this all Microsoft?

well ive been using my phone with the new radio for a while and i havent noticed any particular drain on battery life, but by the same token i havent noticed much change in reception strength. Saying that tho i have had more data service lately in areas that i previously didnt and the call quality does seem better. I think that this upgrade is more for our american cousins as you guys run a different type of cellular network to us in europe/UK and i think this 2.47.11 is optimized for you. I'm still gonna keep it tho :D

I travel to the US (Houston) quite a bit and have always found that the call quality over there was terrible compared to the UK (especially Cingular!!). I've always assumed that the networks were at fault, but now I've updated the ROM to 2.47.11, it will be interesting to see if anything has changed when I go again next week. I'll report back my findings....

I was under the impression that gsm is gsm. What is different about the type of network we use? Isn't the difference that you predominantly use 1900mhz and we use 850mhz? (although both of use use different frequencies as well).

There is no difference besides some areas use different frequencies.
He's wrong.
GSM stands for "Global System for Mobile communications".
GSM is a global standard, it's the same around the whole planet.
That's why you can take any Quadband GSM phone from the US and use it in Europe, and vice-versa.

well i'm not sure i am wrong after a quick check it would appear that in the UK we use 900/1800 networks where as in the US you use 850/1900 all i'm saying is i think the 2.47.11 radio is stronger on the 850/1900 frequencies. I have no proof of this just from what most people have said here it appears to be the us users that get the better results

tmobile usa actually uses alot of 900mhz also. And cingular roams off of some 900mhz places.

Hi everyone! This is my first post, regarding my first rom update on my first PDA phone, so please go easy on me if I'm missing something obvious...
I am having the same problem described above where my phone freezes on the RGB screen and the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe fails with Error [300] Invalid Update Tool.
Following the procedures above, connecting the phone to the PC after booting directly to the RGB screen, my device manager shows the Win CE USB device functioning properly.
Any ideas why I am not able to install this?
Thanks!!!
My configuration is as follows:
Phone: Cingular 8125
Rom: 2.25.11.1 WWE
IPL: 2.25.0001
SPL: 2.25.0001
Radio: 02.25.11
Ext Rom: 2.25.11.102
I have run the Lokiwiz03 utility to SIM unlock the phone, but I have yet to try a different SIM card so I don't think the unlock has taken effect.
[EDIT] Tried my friends T-Mobile SIM card and it asked for his pin, asked for my SIMlock Code and booted correctly after entering them. I wasn't able to make an outgoing call as I kept getting a voice recording saying that the number was not valid, but I assume that means that Lokiwiz03 works for my phone.

have you unlocked your phone with lokiwiz?
if this question is for me, i assume you are asking if I have CID unlocked my phone. I have not, because I was under the impression that I did not have the ability to do that on my phone yet. Am I correct in thinking that lokiwiz03 only supports SIM unlock and not CID? And am I also correct in thinking that other versions of lokiwiz will not work with my 2.25.11.1 ROM? I have run a few different versions and lokiwiz03 is the only one that doesn't throw an error.
I was under the impression, due to some previous post on this thread, that a CID unlock was not necessary for this update. Is that true? If I do need to CID unlock, is it possible given the specs in my previous post?

You do not need to CID unlock your phone for this rom. You do have a g4 wizard. That means you need to use the g4 updater. In this thread quite a few pages back you will find the g4 updater. You just need to take the rom files out of the g3 updater folder and put them in the g4 updater folder. That should do the trick

Thank you! This was what I was looking for ... i see now that it was mentioned on page 9 and 16. Hindsight is always 20/20! Of course the only G4 update util I could find was in italian, but I combined them and used the RUUResource.dll from the G3 update util and viola! An english G4 radio rom update successful!

I have been running this radio ever since i found it, which is also when i posted this thread.. so far, i have had fewer dead area's, picks up signal faster, and calls are clearer! I will give this radio an 8.5 out of 10, i would rate the old cingular 2.25.11 radio around a 7.. but this is my own personal opinion

I could not get the firmware updater to run correctly under Windows Vista RC2. Just an FYI. It worked just fine under Windows XP64, though.
Under Vista, the program would crash when it began its update, leaving the phone in update mode (or whatever it's called - the colored bars screen). A soft reset fixed the phone. The problem may be the not-ready-for-prime-time Active Sync software that comes with Vista.

What you need to do is discover if your phone is a G4 or a G3. You can do this by doing a soft reset and if you look at the IPL/SPL in the top corner this will tell you.
A G4 Device, has IPL/SPL like 2.xx.0001 whereas a G3 has IPL/SPL like 2.xx
Once you have discovered which version you have then you need to download the appropriate files which are towards the front of this thread somewhere.
Once the file is downloaded to your pc you need to sync up your device and then unzip the file and run the exe file in there this will then display the rom update utility and you just follow the instructions. The G4 one is in italian so next is "avanti" so just keep clicking that. It will only update the radio rom so you won't loose any of your settings.
I have the G4 Rom Update Utility on my website at www.tubbyworld.co.uk/files
Hope that Helps

After being on the 2.25.11 RADIO for the past few weeks and having previously used 2.24.11 i can conclude that
2.47.11
PROS:
- improved call quality,
- signal strength is far better (more bars in places where there were no bars on 2.25.11),
- speakerphone is acutally functional, with 2.25.11 even screaming didn't help, the other party barely heard me,
CONS:
- HUGE power drain compared to 2.25.11
BOTH RADIO ROMS although the quality was better on 2.47.11, both were giving me the static SPIKE once in a while during the phone call.
i'm on 2.25.11 currently and im gonna give another try to 2.47.11 (regardless the fast power draining)

I am new to this and read the thread, but still can't figure it out.
I extracted the Rom Update Utility into a new folder under My Documents. I then put the radio .rar file in the folder. When I run the program I get:

When this error message appears, check whether the downloaded image is placed in the directory of RUU. If, for some unknown reason, you find that the ROM image is not located in the RUU folder, you have to download the RUU and retry again.
Note: it is italian, so this is the code def from the readme file.
I have the T-mobil USA MDA (2.26.10.2 WWE Rom; 02.25.11 radio)
I think it is G3, but that really confuses me. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks - did not know that rar files were a compression utility. Worked.
I have a weak signal at home 1-2 bars and it is at 2 bars now. Hopefully it will be a more constant 2 bars.

I was sceptical that a software upgrade could improve the reception on my Cingular 8125, but I gave it a shot and it worked! I am getting better reception in my house now. I used to only get reception near a window and now I can walk around the whole house. Also, the Edge speeds are faster - although I have found Edge to be so fickle, it might just hae been that the network was running extremeley well the minute I was running my speed test. Anyway, I am one satisfied customer. Thanks!

think of it this way.. its kinda like an updated driver for the hardware.. not just regular software.. so no reason to be skeptical ;)

I have had the 2.47 radio rom installed for about a month now. I am going back to 2.25 :(
The battery drain is INSANE!!! My phone battery is not even lasting 8 hours where before I could go about 2 days with my normal usage.

Well after a month with the 2.47 radio rom, I am goign back to 2.25 :(
The battery drain was INSANE!!! I couldn't even go 8 hours with minimal usage without the battery reaching critical. With 2.25 I could go almost 2 days with my normal usage.
Maybe another one will come along that doesn't kill the battery like this...the recption was great...but not knowing for sure I would have my MDA to use when i needed wasn't worth it.

Tiffster.. it appears that the complaint you have about battery drain has been reported before and actually linked to certain roms, not the radio. Its all in this thread somewhere, but if you need anything else feel free to contact me!

Sorry for the double post...
I have the standard T-Mo rom, that came with my MDA...prior to this update my battery life was great...since I installed 2.47...it has been horrible.

I have the standard cingular 2.25 rom and upgraded the radio rom only. My battery drains alot and I have problems with bluetooth headset dropping connection. I did not have this problem before. I know others have said that the radio rom has nothing to do with the bluetooth. but I am only reporting what happened with me. I will be going back to the old radio rom.

I've been running the 2.47 Radio ROM for about an hour. So far so good. MMS & SMS are noticeably faster. I can't tell if signal strengthis different, but I'll try the basement later. The comm manager hung once when I tried to turn on BT, but I soft reset and it seems fine now. It probably wasn't the Radio ROM. Who can tell?
Is it me, or is the thing booting up just a tiny bit faster?
When I call my mom tonight after she takes her hearing aid out, I'll let you all know definitively if the mic transmission is better.
I'm curious, and perhaps this is a bit of cross-posting, but who do you (all) call to test these things? I swear I'm the only MDA junkie in Mpls, and my friends all think I'm just a little odd, even without the gadget addiction. Anyone else interested in a poll result on this?

Lately when I get calls from people they have been telling me that they were calling me and I wasn't picking up. but when I look at my phone, I had all my bars and no missed calls. Has anyone being experiencing this problem with this 02.47.11 radio? I really like it, but if calls are going straight to my voicemail when I have full bars,I might need to change (I have cingular).

Which ROM are you using? AKU 3.x is known to have Missed calls/delayed notification issues with most radios other than 2.19.11 in the US especially on Cingular. If you are in the US and on Cingular and using AKU 3.x or WM6 you should flash the 2.19.11 radio from the FTP site.
Eventually you will get a load of notifications for voicemail and missed calls.

or you can try the new 2.61.11 radio just posted a couple days ago

Yeah, I have the WM 6 ROM, and I really love it. So, I guess I need to re-flash my radio to 2.19.11? I'll go ahead and do that. Is the 2.16.11 better than 2.19.11?

I apologize, I meant 2.61.11. I have not had any problems with it as of yet, but I am not using AKU3.x or WM6.

2.61.11 might work just fine for you. I know that 2.19.11 will work for you as it is the only radio that for sure doesn't have any issues with missed calls/delayed notifications in AKU3.x or WM6. That is the only reason I suggested 2.19.11. by early next week several people will have been running 2.61.11 for a week and can give updates on it as of now the only issue I have had in 2+ days is 2 calls have mysteriously went straight to voicemail when the phone was not in use and had full signal strength.

is the 2.19.11 radio rom for tmobile. Will I get bad reception because I'm on the cingular network but I have the tmobile radio rom?
