what does it do? Is it to change application in the main (today) softkeys?
or can it also change softkey in other applications such as Outlook Mobile?
Thanks in advance.

I too am confused. Isn't there already an option to change whatever application we can launch using the soft key buttons by going to the system settings?

This application is not standard in every Rom.
If you don't have it in your Rom, you can add it now.

Yes you can assign every program to one of the softkeys.

This one is much better:

- It allows to select any application whereever the application is.
- Allows to rename the Soft Key Display Name
- The applet can be put on any Tab (Personal, System or Connections) of Settings

Cheers,

.Fred

ps.: the only disavantage is that the size of the applet is 63k against the 18k of yours

You need to unzip the file and copy the applet file to \windows folder then perform a soft reset.

Does anyone know of a way to access call history using the softkeys, or even the hard keys?

On my old C500 i think there was an executable somewhere which opened call history, and it was possible to point a button at this, can't seem to find one on the hermes though.

There should be an option there to rename it. Just read it carefully. It should be at the top.

So I changed the right soft key to new sms and it didnt work, so I changed it back to Calendar but now it gives me an error:

HTCCalendar.exe

The file "HTCCalendar" cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.

This is using the former file (soft key changer.zip) not applet.

I've got the same problem. Someone said you could change a registry setting to point to /windows/calendar.exe to fix it. They must have named the calendar program differently in the different versions.

This softkey changer does not work properly on the Tilt (at least). The default left softkey is set to calendar... if you change it, and change it back, it sets the value of the OPEN reg key to \Windows\LSK\HTCCalendar.exe, which does not exist. The correct value is \Windows\Calendar.exe. You will have to edit the registry manually to correct the entry then do a soft reset to make it effective.

I tried this app and it worked fine. With one odd side effect I no longer have the option of adjusting transparency level to my background image. Another great fix would be a way to just make the BG Black. I am running HTC Homeplugin with customerizer I'm looking for the option in that but no luck.

Can someone please provide the exact path in the registry for "\Windows\Calendar.exe."

I'm also experiencing this issue and would like to have it fixed. Thanks!

hi, on TouchFlo screen LS key is Phone and RS key is Programs (ROM 1.93)
I would like to change the LS key to Contacts. I tried using both - SoftKeyAppletEx as well as Softkey Changer, but they both do change the keys when you reset (you can see the change as it is resetting) - but once TouchFlo is up they both go to Phone and Programs (default). Please help. Thanx in advance. Noor.

I wanted to add the -favorites command line switch to iContact so I had to use the registry:

Changing Soft Key 1 (Left SoftKey)

To change the default value of the left softkey (SK1) on Windows Mobile, navigate to the following registry key:

For Windows Mobile 6 Professional or Classic:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 2]

For Windows Mobile 6 Standard:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Home\Keys\112]

Inside the registry key, there are two options which should be changed accordingly:

@=”” (Also known as Default)
“Open”=

Changing Soft Key 2 (Right SoftKey)

To change the default value of the right soft key (SK2) on Windows Mobile, navigate to the following registry key:

For Windows Mobile 6 Professional or Windows Mobile 6 Classic:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Today\Keys\11 3]

For Windows Mobile 6 Standard:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Home\Keys\113]

Inside the registry key, there are two options which should be changed accordingly.

@=”” (Or label as Default)
“Open”=”[Enter path to the location of handling app program or executable]”

After the change been made, Windows Mobile may take a while to reflect the change on Today screen (or Home screen). To make the change takes effect immediately, do a soft reset.

If you just want to change and revert back to original factory default SoftKeys values of Windows Mobile, just delete the “Default (@)” and “Open” registry entries, and the default SoftKeys will be displayed.
