View Full Version : Treo 750v rom dumped!

I've uploaded a rom dump to the ftp server. It was created using mamaich's TestDump.exe tool. It is 59MB in size so I think it's a good dump.

I'm still trying to get someone to copy the registry so hopefully I'll have that soon. There is a related thread in the Treo section, but I think a thread here is more appropriate and will grab more attention.

The first goal is to extract the new threaded sms application which everyone (Treo or not) should be motivated to get. Treo users would benefit to get the a2dp support off of this rom. A cab like the tornado a2dp cab would be really cool.

ftp.xda-developers.com
userid: xdaupload pw: xda
file: treo750vrompartial_bcaslis.zip (dump of Part00, Part01 and Part02 partitions)
Edit: Attached a zipped up .reg file from a 750v.

Let the games begin!

Hi! Thanks very much for the dump, downloading now.
Any chance of getting a registry dump as well?

Thanks!

I'm having problems extracting from the bin.. what would be the suggested tools to extract this bin?

Below is the text of what i'm getting..shortened : )

img 00000000 : hdr=80135a2c base=80000000 commandlineoffset=80000000
ERROR: could not find pointer for ofs 00000000
.........................
8024a838 - 83a10000 unknown

Dont know? I'm only able to get about 2mb of files out of the rom and it ends. Any suggestions?

I PMd hannip about this - I thought it was just me, but the majority of the dump is empty, with just the last 1mb or so with flash data. I think we might need another dump.

I've sent him details of how to do a pdoc dump if he can.

Thanks all for your efforts, rom dumps are always helpful. If anyone else with a treo can volunteer to assist, please shout out.

I'm drumming up interest on treocentral to get someone to try the pdoc method to get a full dump. Hopefully we'll have it soon.

Here is my first pass reg file for the threaded sms app.

It looks like the files we need are:
messaging.exe
messaging.lnk
Treo Classic.mid - already exists on treo's
messagingplugin.dll
smsTrigger.exe
SMS_Providers.dll - not sure we need. Already on treo's.
SMSReceiver_Dll.dll

Are you using the same rom as dumped before? If so, what tools are you using to extract?

We are still waiting for a full rom dump.

Here is my first pass for the a2dp.reg.

I assume we'll need the same files for this as was needed for the tornado version.
bta2dp.dll
Avrcp_MPplugin.dll
sbc.dll

Ok, there is a good rom dump on the ftp server now.

file: treo750vrompartial_bcaslis.zip

Don't be fooled by the name, it's a full dump of Part00, Part01 and Part02 partitions. I was able to extract 1595 files from the imgfs on Part02.

Let the games resume!

I'm excited about this too. I love the threaded-SMS in my Treo 600. It's such a cool feature in Treo 600. I have records of my SMS'es since November 2003, when I bought my Treo 600. It's nice being able to read past SMS'es in a threaded form.

Since I'm moving to Pocket Loox T830 soon, I really hope I can have threaded-SMS in that PDA-phone too. Since Pocket Loox T830 is also 240x240, I don't think there would be any compatibility issue

What's the benefit of a threaded SMS? Can someone post a screenshot of it, everyone gets so excited about it!

Makes your SMS messages look like IM conversations. Probably most missed thing by anyone who moved from a POS device to a WM device. And currently the most prized function for many.

Guys, I've looked through previous posts. So far it seems the following Treo features have been extracted:
-Threaded SMS
-PictureDial Today plugin
-Search Today plugin
-Battery Today plugin (not working well)

Are there any other cool features already extracted, in particular ignore with SMS?
Tell me if I can help.

Now onto the a2dp stuff...
I have the 700wx now & am now anxiously waiting for the a2dp hack from this terrific site (like I did for my apache/6700 b4) but in the mean time would like to know how to get/keep my BT audio gateway open on my wx? Already tried the Toranado cab file (VC_over_BT i think it was?) & tried changing the path value to:
\Program Files\Voice Command\voicecmd.exe
but no luck.

I listen to mp3's on BT headset (not headphones) for audible books, podcasts, etc. I have fingers-crossed as this seems easier than getting the holy grail of BT audio done : a2dp...thanks!

CDTV, I'm right there with you. I've anxiously awaited the 750v rom dump, hoping for a2dp, but yearning for a way to keep the BT Audio gateway open to discreetly listen to podcasts through my mono BT headset. Hannip I'm willing to put my paypal money where my mouth is if you figure this out! Best of luck and thanks for your efforts thus far.

Here is a cab that will install the 750 a2dp support. It installs the 3 dll's, reg changes and cert.

Doesn't work on the 700wx yet. It installs on the 700w, but exhibits the same lag issues as the tornado cab. I'm posting it here for people to experiment with and other devices may work with it also.

what are you trying to do
I'm trying to eliminate connection-problems between my TyTN and my Parrot CK3100 carkit.
I've also got a 750v which doesn't sync its contacts, only the speeddial

Are you sure both files are OK ? btagsvc.dll should be about 43k.

Can't get any connection with them.

Are there any dependencies ?

Is there a way to get the 750V Poutlook files to be imported into a 700WX? I would assume that folder switching app is part of a newer version of Poutlook.

After installing Palm messaging my pocket outlook stopped suggesting emails while I type the person's name in the To: field.

I think in Treo the built-in suggestion mechanism for emails is replaced by the one similar what is used in 'Dial by name' or 'Palm messaging'. It is just that whoever was dumping/ripping the Palm messaging app from Treo ROM has forgotten to include the new email suggestion in the cab as well.

Is there a way to fix this?

Hi Hannip,

I tried your treo A2DP cab on my wizard, surprising it works on my wizard but with some noise distortion on the lower frequencies... Interesting enough, the tornado A2DP hack gives noise distortion on the higher frequencies(!!??)..
Anyway, if you don't know already, the lag issue is fixed via an overclock on the wizard(260Mhz).

thanks for the try... now to see if I can improve the quality of the stereo sound...

new2city
30th October 2006, 09:05 AM
sorry, got too excited... the reason for the difference in quality was, your cab's default setting is asjointstereo=1, when I disabled joint stereo, the distortions went back to high frequency... sigh... still stuck with low quality A2DP on the wizard...

Guys, apologies for being a pain, but could I ask some kind soul to dump his Treo rom using the attached app.

It'll dump all of your ROM onto your SD card, into a folder called "dump". It'll take about 15 minutes :(
Once done, please zip it up and PM me, or host it on an ftp.

Again, sorry for being a PITA. But this dump can be useful.

Anything, doesn't matter what Operator, just that the dump is done with that app. It generates relatively unsuable files (or at least different to a proper rom dump), but they have their uses!

Thanks so much.

You can use this dumper on the Hermes, but it's not the best way to do it. What do you need the files for? Use Mamaich's romtools ideally.
I have a special need for files generated with the other dumper posted above.

Ran for over three hours and still not complete, I think (screen almost frozen, as the app takes up all the resources). I couldn't wait much longer, so I stopped it. Here's the partial dump (does seem to have a lot of stuff):

I'm trying to replace some bluetooth-related files on the Treo to restore Phonebooksync with my carkit (Hermes does this correctly).

And I'm trying to replace some other files on my Hermes to get rid of my connectionproblems with the same carkit. (Treo has no problems)

The files I get with the Perl scripts are to small and the files with this dumper are to large. How to get files I can use ?

It may have actually completed, the dump looks mostly complete, at least for my purposes.
I'm very grateful to sabesh for his help.

Mamaich's file dumper may have crashed, I've not tried it on the Treo, but it's also difficult to say when it has finished, it's not very verbose!

But it's good enough for me!

Now this has been discussed many times on the XDA Forum but does anybody think he/she is able to extract the one line plugin that shows Operator and Wireless connectivity?

@vijay555
Since you are really good with this. Do you think it's easy to extract this part from the Treo ROM? I do think that it's much easier than getting the Contact Search Plugin, don't you think?

I think (but I'm not sure, I've never had a Treo) the operator and wireless plugin are connected to the phone dialer stuff, the stuff that they tried to get rid of.

Although I don't think anyone's got that stuff working yet, I think I know why. But for the time being, I think it would be easier to write the plugin from scratch... what do you need?

I was afraid about that. Read it yesterday night on a forum that they are indeed connected. Noticed that you also posted over there ;)

I'm not a hardcore programmer unfortunatly, so what I i need is just the plugin :p But now I know why it takes so long to just get that "simple" plugin, since it involves multiple parts of the ROM.

vijay555
14th November 2006, 06:52 PM
The plugin that you need would be "relatively" easy for someone to write, you probably could. At least on Wm5, the state and notification broker contains everything you need, so just read the registry and format it to the screen.

However, check see if the guy that wrote the great OMAP overclock battery plugin could write you a special simplified version.

I'd love to do it, but I'd do it badly and somehow set fire to your cat. It wouldn't be pretty :(
