Is there anyway that I can get BlackBerry Connect to install on my 700W. My company is moving away from exchange, so i will lose my push email. I am in the USA and on verizon so the 750v is out of the question till cingular picks it up or the price for a export comes down.
Thanks - Lil0ne

Can you take me thru the install? I downloaded the cab file, but do not know what to do next?
I am also on Verizon with a 700w. I had the BIS service when I changed to Treo.

So far this is what I know.
There are 2 things that you need.. the .cab file and the " BBC Desktop For windows mobile "
to install the cab file just copy it to your device / SD card and then " open " it with any file explorer, and it will install just like any other program.
ill update this when I get ahold of the desktop software.

I have setup the BB Connect on my Treo 750v (on Cingular) and everything seemed to install correctly. I was able to provision to my corp. BES and receive the IT Policies. However, I only get a partial icon on the Today screen. Rather then seeing 4 Blackberry icon thingys, I get 2. Which tells me I am not completely connected. I see that I have the service books installed (ALP & CMIME). The "Email Setup" button is disabled under the Utility tab. I have done all the obvious. Selected "Register Now", etc.
I also have the BB Connect plan on Cingular. I previously had a Blackberry Pearl and a Nokia E62 w/ BB Connect. Nothing changed on my account.
Any ideas?

Are you able to connect to the BB Connect Desktop software and sync the calendar, etc.?-- Sal
I can. I have all the service books installed and the IT Policies downloaded to my device. I am able to see "Connection Available" within the BB Connect software on the Treo. I was able to provision my Treo to the BES and was able to sync using the handset syncing method in the BB Connect setup process.

I think I know why I am not getting connected. When I spoke to the data support folks, they had me having the Nokia E62 w/ BB Connect on my account. There was no way for me to change the device using the Cingular BB portal. It did not recognize my device (probably because its Vodapone/unlocked). I wonder if they can override the PIN/IMEI number on there side.

I would call and make sure you get their data/treo/blackberry support guys. The normal CS/first line of support won't have an idea. I know Verizon has this. You will need to ask for them once you reach someone in CS.
I am curious if Verizon can accept your PIN from BB Connect.

I called Verizon yesterday and of course after trying to explain the situation to the first support person, I got someone in the know. I did not get the response I wanted. They cannot give me a PIN number that would function with the phone. It may of been a case of not knowing on both our parts. That leads me to another question, does BB Connect work with Webclient or is it just a BES solution?
Anyway, I still could not get around the provisioning error.:(

I have not gotten it to work with Cingular's BIS service. I only have it syncing with my work BES server. Given that Cingular can't register my PIN number, they will obviously not be able to configure my 750 to route emails to it.

To those of you who have BB connect working on the 700w with Verizon...(lilOne, are you still monitoring this thread?) Do you have to get a Blackberry Service Plan in order for the service to work on your Blackberry? When I try to start the service, it flashes "no connection" and promptly stops.
bhailey, I believe you and I may be having the same problem. It is my understanding that the Blackberry Desktop Manager will set you PIN when it successfully connects to your BB over the USB sync cable. I am unable to create this connection, because my Blackberry service keeps stopping. My guess is that is why your handheld is still saying your PIN is "pending". Mine too.
Try this. Go to Start>Settings and click on the System tab. Open Blackberry settings and go to the Status tab. Does it say your service is "stopped"? Does it stop again after you click on Restart? I believe that is why the Desktop Manager cannot set your PIN.
As you can tell by my question above, I think the service is not working on the handheld because it has detected that my calling plan is not a Blackberry plan. I guess RIM needs to make all their settlement money somewhere.

Treo 750v here, BB Connect conencts well. However, I only had ONE message get pushed to me, right at the very beginning.
Since then, no messages get pushed to me. BB COnnect connects just fine and plays pretty well (Although I agree with you Brian, UMTS doesn't play well with BB Connect regarding signing on...)
Interestingly, I am still able to SEND messages, look up names, etc. Just no recieve. I tried and tried re-provisioning, no luck. I am still using the vodafone ROM....should I upgrade to the Cingular ROM? Is that what you're working with Brian M?
Thanks! I've been trying to ditch my blackberry for THREE years now. My company is one of the ones that won't change a thing for me (and I'm even an officer.) Lets work together on this!

29-11-2006, 03:17 PM
Nope. No solution. I tried to call Verizon and convince them it was a BlackBerry, but they didn't buy it. They told me, "We are working on a patch to resolve it." If that is true, I will believe it when I see it.
At this point I am resigned to waiting for something official from Verizon, or for someone more enterprising than me to figure it out.
My current theory of the problem is that BB Connect is designed to only work if it can verify that you have authorization to use it. With GSM phones, I suppose it looks on the SIM card. With Verizon I am not sure how it would work. Ultimately, I believe RIM wants anyone to get BB Connect who wants it, provided that they get the monthly fees for the service.
Therefore, we are unable to get it to work. Because, when the BB Connect service running on the phone is unable to obtain that "authorization", it immediately terminates.

red.jimbo,
My understanding...
A PIN is generated in the BBerry Connect Desktop app, not on the phone. The Desktop app needs to connect to your Mail Server first, then it will auto-generate a PIN (assuming you have that option checked). Once the desktop app has a PIN, you can try to sync it with the device. If you aren't getting a PIN in the desktop app, your problem is likely the connection to the mail server... nothing to do with the phone.
Of course, I haven't been able to get mine to work despite this sounding like I know what I'm talking about. I get a PIN, but I can't sync it to my Treo. So take everything I say with a grain of salt :D

Just to clarify how BlackBerry Enterprise works with a connect device like Palm Treo:
The PIN is generated on the phone, not in the BB Connect Desktop Software.
To get a Treo to work with your corporate BES you have to follow these steps:
1) Make sure that your Sim card is provisioned for BlackBerry Enterprise
2) Make sure that your BES administrator has added your user to the BlackBerry Enterprise Server
3) Install the BlackBerry client (a cab from the Palm website) on your Treo and check the box that you want to synchronize your calendar via BlackBerry
4) When the client is active on the Treo the PIN is generated and can be seen in the BlackBerry settings on the Treo
5) Now install the BB Desktop Configuration Tool (Link is provided in a previous post) on a PC/laptop which is connected to your corporate network
6) Start the tool and connect the Treo via USB cable.
7) Click connect in the tool.
You will be prompted to generate an encryption key by moving the mouse. Afterwards your calendar entries on the Treo will be deleted and replaced with the calendar entries in Exchange or Lotus Domino.
Your PIN is transmitted to the BES and from now on you get emails and calendar synchronized wirelessly.

I don' t know this client, seems that its not the right one for your Treo firmware as you never get a connection to the RIM infrastructure.
I suggest to uninstall the current BB client from your device.
Then install this one:
http://members.a1.net/updateservice/bb/BBConnect_PocketPC_BB_211231.exe
When starting the BB client make sure that no Active Sync or Internet Explorer is active in the background (kill them in the task manager on the Treo by pushing the ok button for a longer time)

Thanks, but...
Installed it and unfortunately, same problems. I think this is the same client as the 750v (which I tried previously), but at any rate... still no luck.
I've seen in other forums (treocentral, cingular, etc.) that it seems Cingular has locked down the 750 to prevent it from communicating to any kind of BB server. All of the successes I have seen written up are with the Vodafone 750v's. No indicator that I have found that anyone has gotten it to work on the Cingular 750. I have even hunted around in the registry to see if there was anything obvious. There wasn't.
Unless you (or anyone else) has any other ideas, I'm thinking of just packing it in. I guess Cingular and Microsoft have won this battle!!

Make sure you take note that I was trying to get this to work on a Treo 700W with Verizon. It appears that you are doing this on a 750. Not to make you feel bad, but based on what brmcquire said, it should be possible for you to get your phone to work with BBconnect.
You and I are having a very similar problem. Your description sounds nearly identical to mine. However, I am still under the assumption that my theory is true: I can't get a PIN on my device because BBconnect is unable to verify that it is authorized to run against the provider (Verizon).
GSM devices, like your 750, are entirely different from the 700W in that they use a SIM card. The SIM card must be provisioned (or programmed so to speak) to permit BBconnect to run. It may be that you are not working because your SIM card does not show that you have a BlackBerry plan on your account with your provider. If you pulled your SIM out of a BlackBerry that worked before, then this should NOT be the source of your problem. Otherwise, you will need to contact your provider and persuade them that you want BlackBerry service added to your plan. Just tell them you bought a BlackBerry off of the web and you want to move your SIM card to your new device.

Unfortunately, I tried using the SIM from my working BBerry device (that I was trying to replace) and that didn't work either. It seems Cingular has done something somewhere to prevent 750 owners from using BBC. I can only assume Microsoft has gotten to the "nice" people at Palm and made sure it was real difficult to use anything other than MS Direct Push technology.

I shared your feeling totally!!! I have exactly the same problem and has spent 4 days looking for solutions but no luck at all. However, I have found that many posts that have the same problem but none of them seems to be able to solve it. So far I haven't seen any post that said "it is now working".
My PIN is still pending. I even got a new phone from listening to my phone provider Singtel since they did not know what to do so of course hardware problem.....
Anyone did solve this problem?
