I mean in place of just minimizing the task manager to the tray when you close it [by pressing the close button]. An option to close it without minimized to the tray.
I know you can close by going to options.
This is a suggestion .no big deal.

It was the case in the past, but a lot of people preferred to have the TM minimized. Another possibility is to install a close feature like Spb PocketPlus, Wisbar, MagicButton, which allow you to really close an app when you click on the close button.

maybe he mean that he want your task manager to handle the closing of other applications when they are minimized
like pocket plus and the rest does
and not close your task manager when he minimize it ?

Hi Dotfred,
I found a little bug in V.2.1. When I export a key from the registry (in this case a DWORD) the hex value is written into the .reg file. But when I import the .reg file the value is read as a dec value.
Wolfgang
Btw, thanks for tis really great app.

What I can do, is let the user have the choice from the options dialog.
So either having the "Minimize" soft key and "Exit" in the menu, or having the "Exit" soft key, and "Minimize" in the menu.
What do you think?

Value dword:FFFFFFFF is imported as 7FFFFFFF when I import from .reg-file.
for example, import this .reg-file and look at result:

"LINEIF"=dword:ffffffff

Dotfred a super program but I am relatively new to downloading programs onto my machine. Can you tell me how I get your taskmgr into the my programs section of my Charmer? I can get the exe file anywhere and execute it from here but was wondering if it comes with an icon and can be part of program files. Many thanks once again for a wonderful program..JD76

If you click on the menu, you will see Create Pgm Shortcuts...
The shortcuts will be created (by default) under /Windows/Start Menu/Programs/System

One of this shortcut is TM Minimized.lnk
the parameter is /tray

- fix for problem reported by vint_ (import of 0xffffffff)
- fix for keyboard misalignment under WM2003SE
- Option to switch between minimize and exit buttons
- Automatic/Manual load of devices (wm2k5 only)

Is it supposed to ask me something when I put a check mark by "Create Pgm Shortcuts?" Checking that doesn't seem to do anything different.

In fact, when you flag it, the TM will create the shortcuts, even if you delete the shortcuts. When you unflag it, every existing shortcut will be deleted and won't be recreated until you flag the menu item back.
Hope it's clear...

Hi,
thanks for this great application!!!
This is by far the most complete and perfect Task-Manager I have seen.
If you don't mind, I have two sugestions:
1. a possibility to jump to self-defined "Favorites" in Reg.Editor would be great. So that it is possible to quickly jump to a certain reg.-entry.
2. In the "tabs menu" it would be a good visual aid to have a checkmark on the currently active item (or just like usual on WinCE the "left" and "right" arrows)
What do you think?
Thanks again and keep up that work
Carsten.

Hi,
1. a possibility to jump to self-defined "Favorites" in Reg.Editor would be great. So that it is possible to quickly jump to a certain reg.-entry.
i second this request, and if possible i'd like to see it realized like this:
custom reg folders in the root below the main registry folders. then you can categorize your registry 'hacks' for audio, bluetooth, speed improvements, etc.
Indeed, a brilliant application that works very well. thanks for the effort!

Firstly, I'd like to reiterate the praise of others in lauding this excellent App!
Secondly, I'd like to point out a very minor issue - in IPConfig, under "Windows IP Configuration", I have two DNS Servers. There is no carriage return "\n" between the line "DNS Server 1: ..." and "DNS Server 2:..."
Thirdly, I'd like to submit two feature:
a) In the same way as Task Manager on NT gives a Current CPU utilisation graph (in %), it'd be good if the icon for the application could do the same, or, even better, if there was a way to include an icon in the taskbar (not the Today screen bar, as this is not always active) such that this %utilisation could be seen. There could possibly be an option for disabling this so that if not required, extra CPU is not used showing its utilisation.
b) On the CPU Usage listing, it would be good if there was an aggregate time used (per process) such that CPU-hogging apps could be identified without actually being in the Task Manager program. This would work in a similar manner to SysInternals Process Monitor (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/ProcessExplorer.mspx)
Keep up the great work!

I dotfred,
First of all, congrats on this app !
I have a sugestion to make, i'm sure most people would like to see implemented in your app:
to have those "script : 0X000..." events, created from missed calls, deleted/removed when you delete duplicate notifications.
Something like Check Notifications from ScaryBear already does.
But with the possibility to run with an option (ex: /d), from a shortcut, in order to be scheduled at some times to automaticaly clean those nasty events that reduce performance of phone's edition.
Is that possible ? Because taskManager v2.3, as is, doesn't remove those "script : 0X000..." ...

A GREAT tool! Thanks!!
When you get the device info section sorted out, can you provide additional info on the devices such as hardware irqs, mem mapped addresses, etc. I'm not referring to the RGY data either. It would be cool if the utility could interrogate the actual hardware setup of the device to search the I/O space.
Thanks again.

First of all this is an awesome tool, DotFred. Congrats!
I think I found one minor bug though. I'm not sure if it is already posted somewhere, but here it goes:
Closing an app in the applications tab using the context menu doesn't work. Fortunately, hitting the close button at the bottom of the screen does work, so it's no biggy.
Feat. request:
A "close all" button or context item in the apps tab. Most task managers include this, and I don't think it's in there already.

I've been using this great utility and I'm eagerly waiting for the device manager section but there is a small problem with the SIP selection panel. When you're prompted to enter data, the SIP appears just to the left of the centreline of the display, half way up.
I'm running Wm2003SE on an Dell X50v, so I don't know if this is an OS issue.

Hi kostavan,
When a window from another application becomes active, TaskMgr is minimized to the tray.
So maybe, there is another application on your device that wants to stay active, when you launch TM. I don't see any other possible reason.

I did a little more testing of this on the X50v I have. It only happens in the 240x320 resolution. In the 480x640 rez, it works fine, so the problem is most likely in an area that senses lower screen resolution. Also, the X50v uses the Intel 2700 graphics chip, so I don't know if that has any affect on the problem.
Let me know if you'd like me to run any further tests.

@dotfred:
i have a question about the "memory usage" in the processes view:
when i open for example pocketplayer, its process consumes 650kb according to your taskmanager. but all other apps show, that the free ram is much lower than the new taken 650kb.
now when i use the processes view from "sktools" it shows the following:
pocketplayer.exe size: 6877184bytes heap size: 1477152bytes
when i exit the pocketplayer app, my free ram gains around 6,8mb. so the "size" value in sktools seems to be the real ram-consumption.
and what is showing your application now?

Hi LordDeath,
I will change it in next release, because you're right, it's not clear what it represents.
In sktools, it shows you all the memory used by the program, so the sum of movable memory blocks and fixed memory blocks.
In TM, I show only fixed memory blocks.

The regedit part is not compatiable with spb mobile shell. If the regedit is launched from WM5 start menu, the dpad can work (still lose focus at the beginning, need click somewhere using stylus to change focus.), but if launch th regedit from spb menu, the dpad is blocked completely.
It is strange that the dpad works fine in other modular like process and windows.
The one hand operation in regedit is not so good. Don't know how to jump from the upper panel to lower panel without stylus.

Well I'm not surprised, SpbSoftware is the specialist for making hard life to other applications.
If you want to work with one hand only, don't forget that you can still use the screen, so by just putting the thumb on the screen you will put focus on one of the controls.

Hi vivi,
How are you? Still playing with your BA?;)
Well, to answer your question, it is not possible for the moment. In order to start a service, you have to do something similar as under Win2k or Winxp, you have to use a specific api to launch the service. So if you want to do it via the command line (or shortcut), I have to add a new parameter to TM to do so. I'm going to add it to my TM todo list then.

Congrats on the new release. Your RegEdit component of the Task Manager successfully handles comments in .reg files (ie, lines starting with ';'). It also works with unicode files. Great stuff.
Would it be possible to have a command-line switch for .reg files, such that double-clicking on a .reg file would (a) launch the task manager, (b) prompt whether to import the file, and (c) if [b] was confirmed, import the file?
Posible switches might be:
/irp "xxx" : imports the specified registry file at path xxx after prompting
/ira "xxx" : automatically imports the specified registry file at path xxx (without prompting)
I'm not sure what your take on multiple command line switches is, but I'd suggest having just a /ir for "import registry" switch (instead of /ira or /irp), and three other optional switches:
/Prompt (to prompt before importing - this switch could in future be used in conjunction with other tasks - if not specified, this would be implied), /NoMesgSuccess (to suppress a dialog confirming the import succeeded or failed), and /NoMesg (to suppress all results - success or failure).
Thanks.

The feature is already there. You just need associate the reg file to task manager. Go to the regedit module of task manager, click the first icon of the toolbar (or the menu) you have the option to associate the reg file with task manager.

You're absolutely right. Thank you. That option adds a link to HKCR\regfile\Shell\Open\Command\
(Default) = "\Windows\TaskMgr.exe" %1
It would be nice to have the extra features regarding suppressing prompts, but they'd probably be low priority at best.
One thing I have noticed though - and this seems to be a shortcoming of all PPC registry programs that I've used - is that they don't support deletion of registry keys. In WindowsNT Registry editor, in a .reg file, for a key preceeded by a "-", the key will be removed. For example, the following script would add a key:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AAA]
... and the following script would remove that same key (note the red minus sign):
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\AAA]
This would be a good fix/feature to add to improve functionality.

Just a question...

Some of them are important like replog notifs (activesync), calnot.exe, clocknot.exe and some named events having this face : \\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\XXXXXXX except those beginning by SCRIPT:0x000
Of course, if you remove them is not that bad, some of them are recreated after soft reset, other not and your ppc will still run properly, but you will lose some notifications... of course :D
What I would suggest is:
1) Remove duplicates
2) Remove SCRIPT events
3) disable the rest except replog, clocknot, calnot and \\.\Notifications\NamedEvents\XXXXX notifs
4) soft reset and check if it works
5) try to enable one by one until the problem appears again and remove the suspicious notification when found.

Well then I suppose there is a soft on your ppc that is launched on startup and that generates these notifications.
Try to find out, and remove it, if possible

Perhaps a long shot, but try removing your storage card and resetting - the autostart mechanism sounds a tone on media insertion and launches the autostart app. TomTom loves to install itself this way for instance. If you have non-removeable storage, look for a numeric folder (like 2577\) which contains executable(s) - see if renaming that folder makes you mystery alarm go away.

Hi Dotfred,
your Task Manager is really wonderful. I am using it on a regular basis. I have one issue which I can't get solved:
Within the Task Manager on the Servies tab I am getting all services listed. It is very handy to be able to start/stop/disable a service (tab&hold).
I would like to write a batch file (mort script) to do the same thing. Therefore I need to know how the commandline would look like. I have played arround with the services.exe but without any result. My test was "\Windows\services.exe stop GLL0:" where GLL0: is the instanciated service which I would like to stop. But it just does nothing.
As your Task Manager is able to perform this "stop" interactively you must have somehow coded this into your application.
Could you point me to a documentation or give me a hint how to manipulate services from the commandline?
Thanks a lot! Igloo

Hi Igloo,
You cannot call services.exe with a parameter in order to stop/start a service, you have to use a specific API which is RegisterService to start a service and DeregisterService to stop it (see MSDN for more details).

Hi everyone,
It is VERY important to wait for 60 seconds or so after the modifications (disabling notifications in my case) so that they are well written in the internal database. Then soft reset with a soft that does it, AND NOT USING THE STYLUS IN THE RESET HOLE.
Dotfred, can you mention this at the beginning of this thread for new readers.
Can you also add a button to soft reset the device with a warning questioning if the user as waited for the 60seconds ?
Thanks anyway, your software solved my reccurring problem of undisplayed notifications !

Just to pass along the results of testing. The unupx'ed WM5 version still results in lost tool icons at the bottom of the Notifications tab. I tried the WM2003SE version and the icons do show at the bottom, but of course the resolution was terrible. I even brute forced VGA the WM2003 version and the icons disappeared. By the way, I'm using an Axim x51v. Again, great app and maybe this can be worked out.

It's a native Windows Mobile application. Copy the binary to your PocketPC and execute it there. Note that there's a menu item to install program and registry shortcuts - do that, then when you execute the registry editor there's another menu item to associate registry files - do that also!

Same line of question here, but
- it's a command line option, not on the tab, right?
- the instructions under "about" said "/nb" "/ns" would remove SCRIPT:0x000 events in versions 2.7 and 2.8b

These events are created by the cprog application, in other words the phone application when you receive a missed call for instance.
They can be deleted, it won't affect/degrade/arm the device, so no worry.
I will have a look why this functionality doesn't work anymore in v2.9

I have tried to execute task manager with the /regxpall, and I have no file created in my My Documents directory.
Hi Thierry,
I will investigate why it doesn't work...

Same line of question here, but
- it's a command line option, not on the tab, right?
- the instructions under "about" said "/nb" "/ns" would remove SCRIPT:0x000 events in versions 2.7 and 2.8b
- now it says (all?) SCRIPT:0x events
- 2.9 still doesn't impact any of my plenty SCRIPT:0x00... events
- but none of the former versions ever did that for me
- I remember facing SCRIPT:0x00... events already with WM5 (never knew how to handle them though)
Dotfred, would you mind to enlighten us on the nature of these events? What creates them, what are they supposed to trigger?
May SCRIPT:0x00... events be deleted as well?
Thanks once more, for sharing your wonderfull tools.
Hi again mistrix,
Could you do something for me?
1) disable the SCRIPT:0x... notifications on your device
2) go into the registry under [HKCU\Software\FdcSoft\TaskMgr\Notifs]
3) export the Notifs key to a file
4) send it to me
So I will restore them on my device, and I will find out why the remove doesn't work, hopefully!
Cheers,
Fred

Great app. I have found it by chance, just because I like your other PPCPimBackup (another big great app) [I would like to donate but you link do not accept euros, and I do not want to give part of your money to my bank]
May I ask a feature :
It will be great if we can export the list of apps, and for each apps the list of the dll, with all the data. /expapp:all or /expapp:poutlook.exe
One question :
what is the purpose of /w, if I launch a command, my pda is already wake up, no ?
Salut Thierry,
Can you tell me what you mean by "with all the data"?
Cheers,
Fred

Hi rodalfa,
You're right, they have the same behaviour!
I copied/pasted the same code and forgot to change StartService by StopService!:o
It will be fixed in next release...
Cheers,
Fred
Thanks!
I think it could be very usefull for all the people that uses A2DP FIX and want to start & stop this service when they are using A2DP, in order to save battery when they are not.

Great program, thank you.
I faced with just one problem:
Sometimes right after start the progress bar of process list updating stops after getting aproximately 20% of processes. But if i click the "cancel" button and then "refresh" everything goes right.
And I want to ask about you plans to add the "CPU Time" to your program?
I use your program for test the CPU consumption of my applications and it would be great if i had the ability to get the information about appetite of my apps.

Is there a way of using this app on a WM6 phone without a touchscreen?
Could be me... but can't find out how to kill an app in the task manager (no way of going to the 3 buttons on the bottom without deselecting the chosen item).
Thanks...!

Ok .... I've read the whole thread (which was a rather dizzying experience for a lay person like me) but I havent seen this mentioned. somehow the icon for the task manager appears on my today screen and I dont know how to remove it. I dont even know if I put it there or it just comes with the prog.
Any help please??
THANX!!!
PS
FANTASTIC application (even if I dont understand most of it ;) )
UPDATE: Ooops, never got back to this. I found the option in there that allows me to remove it.
Thanx.
I however have a new question: I thought that if a program freezes a Task Manager was supposed to be able to override it and shut it down, but I have this prog that appears to freeze if the phone screen goes off, and when I turn it back on Task Manager also freezes.....?????

I am using an older Ipaq wm2003se.
and when I open the ap it flashes on screen for half a sec with a cancel button then closes.
I was able to rapidly tap the cancel button and get it to break whatever operation it is trying to do, and check it out and it is quite impressive. But I need to get it to stop doing whatever is causing this . any reset seems to re corrupt, or whatever is going wrong, and I have only been bale to break the cycle twice.
Any suggestions?

Hi dotFred,
how does your TaskManager differ from the built-in Task Manager of windows mobile 6.1 or 6.5? It doesn't report the same memory usage for device.exe in processes...

Hello DotFred,
I have seen that task manager hangs when S2U2/ilock2 is running. It happens on my Kaiser and also on Fuze. If I kill S2U2 and ilock2 then task manager runs fine.
I have seen many people seeing hang up but I am nit sure if they have same issue with S2U2.
Thanks.

Hi, I've found minor bug with Registry export/import:
It's impossible to correctly export value REG_SZ with contain non-printable symbols. For example - value="\0\0" (I mean two zero bytes) will be exported as value="".
Also when I try to import some thing like this value="\r" - I've got 6 bytes value "\r" without any special char.

Hi,
If you do the same with regedit on Windows, you will obtain the same results. As you defined the value as a string, even if you have 1000 zero bytes, it will be exported as an empty string, I wonder how you could do it in another way, except, as you mentioned, by using a special notation.
Another problem is, if the reg file is used by another program, it won't work.
Anyway, if you can find some specs somewhere, it would be nice. If I find the time and if useful for other people, I will add this feature, BUT as an option (so not by default)
Cheers,
Fred

Does anyone know how to run this taskmanager from command line using a mortscript. I need to autostart/stop a service and the /startsvc would work perfectly.
edit:
Run( "\My Documents\TaskMgr.exe", "/startsvc servicename" )
Works great.
Thanks for the help fred.

I saw this on a crack site lol, it should have been here...
dotfred, I use cabviaactivesync to install all the cabs on my phone, but the new version (and I think previous had this error), gives me an error
"FdcSoft TaskMgr does not support the connected device type. Application Manager will make the application available for installation when a supported device type is connected."
I'm with a Touch Hd with WM6.5 and tried FdcSoft_TaskMgrv3.3_WM6.5.cab
Please fix this error. I install "thousands" of cabs on my phone I 99% they are installed fine via cabviaactivesync plugin in the explorer.
By the way, here's my suggestions
Is it possbile to have another set of icons/theme, as an alternative option. Cause sincerely those are a bit fat and ugly (at least for my taste)
Can you update the start menu icon to a more recent and high quality version??
I'm using HTC Sense and when I left/minimize the app or click on the left first icon (the one that indicates to place the task manager on the tray) the app simply disappears and the only way to go back to it is to click again on the icon on the start menu. It would be good if the app stays on the HTC Task Manager at least...

First of all I want to thank DotFred because this Task Manager is by far the best I've used in my PPC.
dotfred, I use cabviaactivesync to install all the cabs on my phone, but the new version (and I think previous had this error), gives me an error
"FdcSoft TaskMgr does not support the connected device type. Application Manager will make the application available for installation when a supported device type is connected."
That's because the cab files are made with the option "Platform Name: SSDK" instead of "Pocket PC" or "Smarthphone".
But there is a really terrible bug; the physical sofkeys are deactivated after using the Task Manager (tested with WM6.0 on an HTC TyTN). You need to soft reset to make it run again...
BTW: I don't like the new UI :(
Best regards.

Dot Fred.
Maybe you can post the PNG files and other image files used in the 3.3 taskmanager.
I tried extracting those but could not because of Compression on the exe?
(tried ResHacker and CFF explorer)
Maybe "We the community" can help bringing design ideas.

Dot Fred,
I tried downloading both just the exe file and the cab file for the 6.5 version, but the version still says 3.1 after install. It doesn't look anything like the screen shots on your website. I was thrilled to see an update. Great work!
EDIT: Nevermind. Its working now.

I've backed up a couple of notifications using pocket database editor. Basically, I took a clean mxip_notify.vol, put it on my sd card, then edited with Phatware's editor to include the notifications I needed. Then I put it in my kitchen, and have it over-write the stock sys .vol file. It works great, but editing the volume is a little tricky.

hey Fred!
thanks for your hard work on this taskmanager, it's certainly a real pearle of software :D
i'm currently using task_mgr in version 3.1, mainly because i love the menu organisation. also i get confused by the icons in 3.3 easily.. one thing that is really annoying, is what you describe as bug fix in version 3.3 - the hang caused by badly programmed apps.
i wonder if there's a possibility to have the old styled menus in version 3.3? without the thumb stuff?
thanks in advance.
