The Palm Messaging app from the Treo 750v is cool.
It's even cooler on the TyTN.
EDIT: This file has been removed from the FTP site, Please do not upload it again.
Palm claims this is in conflict with their Intellectual Property rights.

very nice... it would be even better if we could maintain the messaging app's hard button functionality (i.e. be able to push it repeatably to toggle between this app and the standard inbox app).
thanks for sharing!!

Ok...yes I am a loser....!
Any chance the cab can incorporate the registry changes, (MMS1 to MMS1old)...or was it left out b/c people may wish to leave the message there as well?
I get nervous on the regedit side...
Thanks, and if not...no problem.

All the changes are already in the cab as far as I can tell. I'm not in front of a PDA...

i tried it on Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone, and not surprisingly, it doesn't work too well. it installs fine, but when running keeps generating exceptions in device.exe and gwes.exe. also, the UI does not work well because it's designed for Pocket PC. again, no surprise, but in case any smartphone users are tempted to try it, consider yourself warned.
kudos to whoever got it to work on a Pocket PC though!

Mmmmm, the lovely Treo 650 messaging is back.
Everything works fine on my TyTN. There is only two minor issues. First one is about desconnecting after sending a MMS. I have to do it manually. Any idea?
The other one has been posted before: I cannot set the Palm messaging to the hard button... although I've sourrounded this using SBSH iLauncher. I've assigned PalmMSG to one of the iLauncher's QuickLaunch icons and this one to the hard button.

Some help please..
I tried to look for the following using resco and phm and i can't seem to find the following that was included with the instructions
- Now you've done that, navigate using the registry editor to HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc and rename the MMS1 key to MMS1.old, and the SMS key to SMS.old. This will prevent the standard app displaying SMS and MMS.
Any help is appreciated! and btw this on a treo 700wx :D

Now, in the SMS app, if you go to Menu --> Options --> Advanced tab

Have you tried entering this mcn / ecn at the registry?
Nope. Though I was thinking about that.
I was curious as to where the registry values for this are....do you know?
Also, I don't know the mcn/ecn for Sprint. Well, I think I have sprint's MCN from that link.

i am using a 6700 on sprint.
I installed and ran exactly as it said.
issues:
-the today shortcut does NOT open the app. It does nothing. I must access it from the start menu.
-it says 1 Unread SMS on the today screen, but there are NO new messages.
-once a messages is sent and a reply is recieved... a chat is started.... any message I SEND after that is not sent for a long long time, 10 - 15 minutes, if ever.... unless I go to outbox and resend. If I do that, ALL of the messages that are in the outbox that should have sent, then send right away.
Others are seeing this issue on the treo vx and x over at treocentral. Hope there is a fix soon!

okay, now i'm not sure if I put in Sprint's number like
+1-7044100000
or
1704410000
I'm doing it the second way. The pop up message IS gone now, so that's a start. Though SMS'ing to an email address is not working.
And I'm guessing I'll have to call Sprint about their email center number...

And the outbox issue is clearly an application one and not a device specific one. Hopefully one of you wizards can figure it out! I think the app has real promise!

now that i have installed the palm threaded app, when i try to go through contacts to send a text, it composes a email message to the phone number in the contact. any idea how to get my treo to default to the new application instead of the old inbox application?

Did you by any chance edit the registry as unstructed on the ZIP file? The plugin could be reading from the old app and you may have a new message sitting on it.

Yeah that does seem like a problem. Although I've trained myself to go to Messaging to New to Menu then Add Recipient. A couple extra steps but does the same.

Hi All,
I've tried the prog and it works OK.
SMS and MMS work fine. For MMS, just manual edit the setting obtained from your operator. Very simple.
I've one not so good comment about this prog. Whenever I replied a message under threaded message, the typed characters is hidden underneath the in-screen keyboard or underneath the Letter-recognizer input panel.
Can anyone confirm this and help find a solution.
TQ and regards,
morisa

Yeah I tried to manual edit, but when I went to the Cingular website to get the MMS settings, it was stating to enter in things that the manual settings didn't have. All I see in manual settings are Message center number, email center number, MMS gateway address and URL.
Cingular has Gateway (wireless.cingular.com), Port (80), Server address (http://mmsc.cingular.com). It doesn't say anything about MMS gateway address.

Hmmm...still not working although I know I am getting someting. When I send an MMS from my gf's phone (she, too has cingular), my wizard shows the rainbow icon stating something is loading. It will do that a couple times then stop. So I know that the MMS is going through to my phone. But for one reason or another, it is not notifying me nor is it downloading the message/image.
I searched another forum and put in the correct Message center number (+1312314890). Cingular doesn't seem to have an Email center number so I left it blank. I tried both wireless.cingular.com:80 as well as 66.209.11.32:80. MMS URL was http://mmsc.cingular.com and Network profile didn't have MMS settings so I tried both default settings as well as my Internet settings without success.
Oh well after working with this for 2 hours, I must sleep now. Thanks for your help mmorisa, I will try again tomorrow.

Hi oo3,
Before you go to sleep, please make sure that you've a MMS setting in your connection setting from the control panel. This is important as the Access Point, username and password for the mms seeting is stored. If you don't have this setting, trust me that you'll never received any mms.
Kindly check it, then go to sleep, wake up early tomorrow and start a new adventure in solving the problem.

See, my messaging center number doesn't stick in the program or the registry after a soft reset. The email center DOES stick.
Either way, if I SMS to an email address I get this:

That 704 number is Sprint's Messaging center number. It's also under the email center.

It works like charm on my HTC Wizard, but my Prophet just wan't to send SMS :(
It does receive SMS with the Palm app, and it shows no error when trying to send or reply to an SMS.
To bad the app doesn't move up a little so it show up above the virtual keyboard . But that is probably because the Treo/Wizard/TyTN etc. have a real keyboard to type with :P
Hmm.. ...just recieved 4 SMS messages on my Wizard from the Prophet.. ..so it does work after all? :D
Seems like it isn't to stable on my Prophet. Havn't missed 1 message on my Wizard though.. ..strange :(

I have this same issue also. I have to resend it from my outbox for it to deliver.
It's not as annoying as getting the device.exe or gwes.exe errors constantly. :(

What if we DON'T rename MMS1 to MMS1.old and just leave it be....will we continue to receive MMS messages with the built in microsoft messaging program?
Won't this solve the problem of the MMS settings?
I don't really need the PALM program to get the MMS messages...just so long as I get them.

OK, I've tried just about every SMS Threader out there for my PPC6700..
This is BY FAR the best.
Just a few kinks to work out.
I installed the file 'Palm Threaded SMS.cab'.. That would be the one that someone posted which included 'smstrigger.exe'.. I don't know why I chose this one, seemed liked the best bet.. (Not the first file @ the start of the thread)
Install went perfectly, soft reset, I DID NOT make any registry changes.
It works great, my hardware button opens the program.. Incoming SMS go directly to it, displayed by it.
The problem.....
I did not make any changes to options in the program, went directly to it, sent myself a SMS. It was about 4 minutes delayed. (Although the time in the thread displayed the time I sent the SMS, not the time it was recieved)
That is problem 1.
Problem 2.
Ever SMS I tried to send after the initial one was placed in my 'Outbox' and I had to manually go there and resend for it to work.
So EXCELLENT program with sooooo much potential. Just need to iron out these bugs..
Recap:
2 problems.
1. Delay on recieving SMS.
2. SMS's sent after intial one are placed in 'Outbox' and are not sent immediately, rather must be manually resent.
Question for other 6700 Sprint users..
Anyone got any settings for me? MMS, etc..
Let's get this working 100%!!

I installed 'Palm Threaded SMS.zip' posted by Lvballer06 on page 5 of this forum.
Works damn near perfect.
Except the two issues I mentioned above.
Hopefully someone will come up with some the Sprint settings for Email and Message Center Number and the MMS Gateway Address.. That might resolve the delay issue.
The SMS going to 'Outbox' and having to be manually resent, someone needs to just figure that shit out.. Confuses me.

You copy it to your windows dir on your device.

I don't think smstrigger.exe will fix the outgoing delay problem. Looking at the registery it appears to be related to certain content types. It probably just routes certain content to the messaging app.

Palm wouldn't send any messages - so I hard reset and restored a backup from before I installed it.
Now I get the message "Your text message cannot be sent" even from the default mail program.
I HARD reset and then tried to send an email from the unit WITHOUT restoring - same error.

Do you have the "Create chats from messages" set to "never"? The outgoing sms messages seem to work fine with that setting. It's only when you start a chat where the sends get stuck in the outbox waiting for something to send them out.
If your sends are from a chat window and are not getting stuck in the outbox then let us know your secret! Maybe a reg export to examine?

I figured out SMS to email messaging for sprint
go to options, go to advance, go to manual, hit edit

Here's a list of the SMS Message Center and SMS Email Center numbers for these North American carriers: AT&T, Cingular, T-Mobile, Rogers Wireless (Canada) and Fido (Microcell - Canada).
http://kb.palmone.com/SRVS/Data/Palm/KnowledgeBases/PalmSupportKB/document/htmlimport/6487.html
Also, I installed it and only had one issue with sending a message and it sent late. Other than that, sending was instant.
The biggest problem I had was with sending MMS messages. I could receive them just fine but I couldn't add a picture to a message. I could get the drop down box to pick a location (main memory or storage card) but the screen wouldn't refresh so I couldn't actually see anything at all. Also, when picking from the default location (My Pictures), the pictures wouldn't show up.
I ended up restoring a backup I made just before installing it. I hope all the issues everyone is having can be fixed and I would like to see Palm release it everyone and not just limit it to the Treo.

No need to choose, I dont know if it is the best solution, but I havent had any problems doing this. Just rename the file "\Windows\Mfc80u.dll" to something else (I use "\Windows\Mfc80u.dll_") and your pictures and video app will work again. Hello everyone!
I was hoping someone could help me with this. I use an HTC TyTN and since yesterday the Palm Messaging app - thanks for all the great work on this. It works like a charm.
My question is this: We use Good Mobile Messaging (formerly GoodLink) on our phones, and after installation of Good on WM5 all contact links and buttons point to Good Contacts. However, in the Palm Messaging app this doesn't work. If you wan't to add a recipient, it still points to the Outlook contacts (which of course on my device is empty, as I only use the Good Contact app for all my contacts). Also, when receiving an SMS, you only see the phone number, but not the name of the sender (I take it this is obvious, seeing that the contacts aren't connected to the messaging app).
Can anyone help and tell me how I might fix this?
Thanks in advance,

Hi could someome kindly pm me the app as well & supporting apps if any, thanks in advance.
Had a treo 600 back in the day, kept it for 2yrs, keyboard made life very easy and sms threader was the best.
This is my first post, yes im a newbie, but damn this forums' the nuts! Praise all you techies who aid 'padda ones' like me!
Currently using SPV M600, wish it had a keyboard, and the sms threader.

No, it seems that if you don't do the editing, no SMS will go to the Palm one.
Not true. I have not changed any registry settings and all SMS's go directly the the threading program and my 'old' inbox does nothing..

This solved my problem - I get all my SMS messages with the Palm application and my MMS messages still go through Pocket Outlook.
Works perfectly.

I can't seem to extract the files from the ROM, but if someone who has can look for this file please: "mailcmdlinehook.dll". Its listed in several spots in the Treo 750 registry and I do not have a copy of it. Could be worth giving a try.

Hey that looks promising. It's tied to sms and mms.
Can one of the TyTN users check to see if mailcmdlinehook.dll exists on your device? Treo 700's don't have it, but it's referenced in the registry. hmm.
The file does exist in the 750 rom. It's looking more promising.

Hi peeps,
My SPV M600 has been working since my last post.
Txt's stay in the outbox now with a tick to confirm delivery , they do not move into sent items (they did before i copied over the smstrigger file), but are included in my inbox thread when opened. So the outbox messages dont really bother me for now, lets see what happens over the next few days.
Wish i had a tytn, ive got crap loads of txt's on my tariff and i hate using the stylus to type!
If anyone's got a good on screen keyboard let me know.
Oh, one major annoying thing about this sms threader for the M600 (Prophet) is that the on screen keyboard takes the place of the typing space so you cant see what you are writing. Someone on another forum was having this trouble. But it doesnt bother me im txting away!
Thanks to all the real techies on all the forums! Im just a newbie and it took me most of today to get the correct file thanx to you know who!

21st October 2006, 05:28 AM
I installed this app on my 8125 several times and each time it worked fine. Sending and receiving text messages was always instant. I could also receive MMS messages but could NOT send them, no matter what settings I tried or which profile I tried. It just wouldn't send. I ended up restoring a backup I made before my first install of the app.
I do like this app but I also wish there were more options. For instance, once a chat was started, each received message wouldn't give me an alert, so if I put the phone down and got a message, I wouldn't hear a notification (or it wouldn't vibrate if that's what I had it set to). A notification here would be nice.
Other than that, it's a pretty nice app. Palm should clean it up and make it available to everyone.

I could be wrong but I think the threads are just a "view." If you change the setup to never show threads, then each text message shows up as if it would with the default text inbox.

Im wondering also how to integrate this program with the regular contacts browsing. Like for instance when I'm looking up contacts and I wanna send a text message it hangs because i think it's trying to open up the native text messaging program rather than Palm's. All I gotta say though is that I'm extrememly happy. Have a few gripes about the full integration, as does everyone else..but so far its AMAZING. My previous posts about it not working was my fault because I only had the .cab file with no instructions on how to rename the folders to .old etc. Instructions really did help.
Im using an MDA on T-Mobile and boy this is a beautiful app. Wonder if there will be any notifications while open soon? Or able to launch it from contacts browsing etc.
THANK YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! I LOVE IT. I'm sure I'm gonna turn some heads very soon.

Ok This is Where I'm At. The SMS portion of the app works beautifully aside from what some people noted about no notification when you are already inside the app/thread. (Minor gripe). Also seeing that the MMS and SMS folders were renamed to old I wasn't able to get to the MMS settings. Just for kicks I went into the registry and brought it back. Edited all the PictureMessaging settings correctly and then renamed back to MMS1.old. I'm on T-Mobile. I can't send nor recieve picture messages. The :8080 trick didn't work for me. I know somewhere I went wrong. I wonder if I should test a picture message with the native messaging app just to see if it works. I'm using the Molski Rom. And To be quite honest I think I got completely screwed up/confused on my Internet & MMS settings because they were not included in this super clean rom.
Anyone have any suggestions? Anyone have cab files that do a complete restore for the standard T-Mobile USA settings & MMS settings? I think I did screw something up on the internet gprs settings. I don't have "The Internet, My Work, My ISP, and all the other standard stuff that was inside of the original stock t-mobile rom"

Hi Dialekt,
I think you should approach molski if you havnt already. Im a newbie, so dont think i can help on roms cus i didnt go there.
I did consider changing the rom on my Prophet but decided not too to take th risk as i may sell my prophet for a tytn. I have seen molski's website and work and his rom must be the best ive seen in terms of freeing up ram.
I did get this app working on my prophet, but i dont mms! so cant help again. sorry!
Once you've managed to set the app up, have a look at vijay555's 'slippypalm' app which allows you to assign the sms threader to a button, thats how ive set mine up.
Sorry cudnt help you! Good luck! Mav.

I've checked in the registry and a new folder titled 'SMS' appears (this is in addition to 'mms1.old' and 'sms.old'). I've tried deleting the 'SMS' key but it just keeps reappearing.

I sadly have exactly the sme problem, I have absolutely everything working fine, no delays no problems with threads and mms works in and out, when I reset my device though my old SMS program takes over and my device takes it upon itself to create a new SMS folder in my HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Inbox registry! The SMS.old is still there and simply deleting the new SMS folder makes everything return back to how I want it.
Can I either stop it from making this new SMS folder or if not make a small app that I can put in startup on the device that deletes the new SMS from the registry automatically so I don't hav 2?
Any ideas you marvelous people?

So either it's a device specific thing or there are some other files missing. I did a dependency check on RecBar.dll however and it doesn't seem to be dependant on anything else that isn't part of the OS.

Look at page 18, it's still there on the rapidshare link I posted; and it's still active. So please don't PM me asking for it, as you guys should do a little reading before requesting. Thanks :).

LoneRanger or whoever is around, I advise you to knock together a cab to revert the settings installed by the Palm Messaging Cab.
GUYS - take a backup of your system before you install this app. It's difficult to remove it afterwards without a backup. At least dump your registry first.
Please note that VJSlippyPalm is not a tool for removing the Palm Messaging app. It's just an easy way to swap which app is loaded.

VIJAY555, I love your work, u reckon its poss to have a look at this for me?
when I reset my device though my old SMS program takes over and my device takes it upon itself to create a new SMS folder in my HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Inbox registry! The SMS.old is still there and simply deleting the new SMS folder makes everything return back to how I want it.
Can I either stop it from making this new SMS folder or if not make a small app that I can put in startup on the device that deletes the new SMS from the registry automatically so I don't hav 2?

i installed the cab file on my WM5 XDA2s. SMS and MMS worked perfectly. i didn't even have to use the smstrigger.exe, changing notification sound also had no problems. :)

Has anyone been able to send MMS on Sprint using this software?
I tried editing the registry and using the proper Sprint info, yet I cannot get any MMS to send.
When I have it set to 'automatic', the MMS just hangs in the outbox. When I have it set to 'manual', the messaging software just closes when I try to send.
Anyone?

You need to put your port number at the end of your MMS Gateway Address IE. MMS Gateway = 149.254.201.135:8080 (obvioulsly use this as a basis of what ever network u are on will be IP.AD.RE.SS:PORT)
That help?

Nope I don't think it does. Sprint uses standard port 80 I believe and does not require anything after the MMS URL.. Thanks anyway though..

You need http://mms.sprintpcs.com/servlets/mms:80 and it will work, if it dont you need to either check the internet connection you are using or try and reinstall it cos if it kicks you out youve gone wrong somewhere,

Tried it. Did not work. I am still waiting for a Sprint user on a 6700 to confirm that they got this working.
Anyone?

I have been using this app on a 700w (v1.10) for the weekend, and have found it to work pretty well.
Here's what my experience has been.
I have gotten the two exe crashes, replaced the SMS program - (did I really put it where it's supposed to go, who knows?). I haven't gotten a crash since then.
I have noted the "stuck SMS" last night.
I also have not had any luck getting the 1 SMS unstuck.
I did not reconfigure any of my settings - left it on "automatic" and it worked fine for verizon. No where in this thread, has anyone posted any verizon specific information.

works great! only thing i have noticed is that the soft keyboard pops up over the top of the reply text area so you can't see what you're typing.
...or am i doing something exceedingly stupid?

I found that using the 750 poutlook.exe fixes the problem for me where a soft reset would make poutlook take over sms. No more having to rename the SMS folder in the registry.
Try this cab and let me know if it solves the problem for you. As always backup before installing any of these cabs.
Edit: hmm, well it worked over several resets, but it seems poutlook will still takeover sometimes. :(
Edit2: ok, I really found the solution now. The 750 tmail app doesn't include a text message account even if there is an SMS folder in the registry so there is no confusion where the text messages should go.
I'll create a cab with my changes later. I need to figure out how to get the 750 tmail to boot and not the one in rom. I can start it manually after killing the rom version and have tested it to play nice with the Palm messaging app.

Great little app!
Two cons to this program though ;)
1 - You still need the "normal" SMS app to send vCards via SMS when using AKU3.2
2 - Mentioned before, the virtual keyboard blocks the input field, so you have to guess what you're typing.
Also noticed that my HTC Wizard (AKU3.2) has no problem with this app, but my HTC Prophet (AKU2.0) does. On the Prophet I've noticed the delay in sending a SMS. about 50% are never received by the other party :(

I am thinking this is an AKU issue... at least the threaded sending issue is.

I think the Treo 750 is at least on AKU 2.3 or 2.6 so that could explain it.

Yeah, I've suspected that also. I've been trying various 750 dll's over on a AKU 2 device to see which will fix the problem. No luck so far, but the 750's tmail app does solve the soft reset issue where the mail app would take over the sms receiving.

I have gotten rid of the program for now. As cool as it is and as appreciated the work that went into getting it is I MUST have reliable SMS. For now I am just going to have to wait. It was fun to play with though. Thanks!

Likewise. I got rid of it immediately after writing VJSlippyPalm. In the UK o2 indicates voicemails by SMS. I never got the sms, so missed calls AND sms :(

Any joy on this as yet, as I still have to edit my Registry with every reset, program still works lovely though?
PS, where is an Update for the Tytn that is 3.2?? I didnt know it was about as yet?

From what I know, AKU3.2 doesn't even exist. If you look at the build numbers of AKU2.6 and AKU3.0, they don't jump at all; however if you look at the build of AKU3.2, it makes a HUGE jump. It's a hacked version from what I know, and every time I try to look for screenshots of AKU3.2, I can't find a single one; and no one mentions it besides on XDA-Developers. I mean, AKU3.0 JUST came out, why would they have AKU3.2 already? I personally don't believe it's real, until someone proves me wrong.

gameboy213 asked me to post here about my experience. I have an iPAQ 6945 and the program works flawlessly. The only thing I can't get to work is MMS. Won't matter much to me soon, i'll be selling my iPAQ. I just got the T-Mobile Dash.
