Cheetah or Treo 750 : Vote

I suggest to call this forum Treo750 instead of Cheetah. The phone will be known worldwide as Treo 750 as opposite to the HTC other phones called differently by various operators. PALM is selling this phone and not HTC or the operators.

What do you think ?

well, it is "my fault" that this forum is called "cheetah" as I suggested the change to the board's admin (previously this was incorrecly placed on the Smarphone section).

I also suggested to change the TyTN to Hermes which in this case has more sense as it is released under a lot of different names by operators.

If the 'Cheetah' is not going to be released under any other name than Treo750 then we can change the forum's name as it has no sense to call it by HTC's codename i guess.

first, I glad we got it on the board in the first place.
second, I liked seeing it pulled from the "smartphones" and put up with the other ppc.

now we don't know for sure if it will be released under any other names, but it does look as if just the letter after the 750 will change.

my though is the "treo" name itself will always be there. even if htc made it people will always see it as the "treo".

I vote for it being called the Treo 750. That is what is will be sold as worldwide. 750v (Vodaphone) 750c (Cingular) etc...

I thought the cheetah was the 700wx? I know the wx was made by htc so it sould be here as well. the title treo treo would cover both.

I googled cheetah and found nothing. how do you guys know that is the name of the 750v? what's the htc name for the wx then?

I say just "Treo" or "WM Treo"

Not "750v" or "Cheetah".

Though 750v may be more popular since it's a GSM phone around these parts, fact is the 700w/wx community is pretty well established and both phones overlap significantly. They have more in common that differences so why even make the distinction?

IIRC the Treo 700w is manufactured by Inventec, while the 750 is manufactured by HTC. In terms of OS they are not very different from any other WM5 device, but ROM formats are different, bootloader is different, hardware is different, radio stack is different... and previous XDA-Developers 'kwow-how' can't be used with the 700w. That's why the "general Treo" forum will probably be suitable for both devices, but the "Upgrading" forum will only make sense for the 750 in this board.

EDIT: just seen in your signature "Treo 700wx (HTC)", then I am wrong... didn't know that the treo700 was also an HTC device... probably it makes sense to let the foum be for both devices then.

There was a huge rumor going around that Inventec was building at least the 700p but it turns out to be a false (http://discussion.treocentral.com/showthread.php?t=121715) as HTC does both the 700p and 700w/wx.

I certainly acknowledge the other hardware differences, so it would certainly make sense to have the 'upgrade only' section for the 750v (and I'm very jealous that you manged to get them a new ROM already! ;-) )
