View Full Version : Remapping Keys on the Excalibur

Has anyone see anything on how to remap keys on the Excalibur (assuming it can be done) similar to the relatively easy remaps that could be done on the SP5M and the 8500/smartflip/3125? I looked thru the windows directory and could not see anything to modify that might relate to remapping the explorer key and/or the email key. I would like to remap one of them to the internal voice dialer. I have it set to #9 as a speed dial but would like to remap if possible.

I've found this: (sorry, I have to repeat this sequence)
"Your device Locale - how to change the letters entered when pressing keys on the hardware keyboard.
Change slide-out keyboard layout
If you have a Device from one country, but would like to use the keyboard layout of another, you can change the keyboard's language setting to do so...
For US layout (QWERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0409 (REG_SZ string)
For German layout (QWERTZ):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0407 (REG_SZ string)
For French layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 040C (REG_SZ string)
For Spanish layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0C0A (REG_SZ string)
For other codes, see: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/reference/winxp/xp-lcid.mspx
Note that the values are STRING values, not DWORDs!
"
Alas, it seems to me somewhat doubtable that it be in the HKCU section, having assumed it to be a machine-wide setting. It does not work in either place. Can anybody confirm or correct this setting for smartphones?
Thanks Michael

I thought you wanted to just remap the mail and web keys? The link I posted above explains how to easily accomplish that.

You absolutely have .lnk files on your phone. You just must not be able to see their extensions. It's quite simple. Find the .lnk file that corresponds to the button on the phone you wish to remap. Then drag and drop that .lnk file onto your desktop computer. Now open it with NotePad or a similar text editor. Then change the path to the desired application. Save it, and then drag it back to your device, copying over the previous .lnk shortcut.

I only have the Camera.lnk shortcut. I see the extensions. There is no lnk file for the mail and the internet explorer key.
But maybe if we create them manually? Does anyone with a htc s620 got that working? i am not talking about the t-mobile version.

The tutorial referred above seems to be unaccessible. Could someone copy-paste it here?

You don't have a \Windows\Short_IE.lnk file?

When you change your locale, is it still possible to switch between languages? I.e. have both English and, say, Russian at the same time?

i use the phone for a while before reboot it doesnt change..
iff i adapt the other reg keys, i´m only able to type numbers and no letters any more...
any help would be nice:)

see that post and what it said at the bottom of post about changing the keyboard layout ;)
value should be at this location:
HKLM/HARDWARE/DEVICEMAP/KEYBD/CurLang=1033
1033 is for US keyboard layout.
if your quest is not about that ... then disregard my post info :p

you have just to play with et9.excalibur.0409.kmap.txt in \Windows folder. Open it, read the instructions on the top of the file, that's all .

One silly question the file seems to be write protected. How do if change or overwrite this file? Do I need to application unlock to be able to modify this file?

thats no silly question;)
i didnt do any unlock, , it seems to be write protected indeed,
when you copied the file on to youre hard disk, rigth click on it, select properties and overthere you can uncheck the write protect.
then just copy the file back to the correct map. and the problem is solved.

You must make Short_IE link to make remapping.
I do this:
Make new txt file.
Put this text in: 19#\Windows\CeleTask.exe?:TaskManagerApp
change the name of the file to Short_IE.lnk and paste it to Windows folder.
You can change the path, but I this doesn't work with spaces in paths like "Program files". Thats why I paste the program in Windows folder.
I have question. What shortcut name i need to remap the message button????
10x :).
