Hmmm, anyone know how to silence the ringer when a call comes in and you just want to "shut the phone up" without declining the call? With my Wizard you can just hit the volume slider, and it'll make the ringer go off.

Thanks for your help in advance.

i don't have mine yet, but did you try the joggr when the call comes in?

am-imate
21st October 2006, 08:25 PM
Yep tried that.. Even put the JOGGR in volume only mode, and that didn't shut it up either... I know on a lot of other phones you tap the power button to shut it up, but no button's will do it. :(

I'll keep trying..

I don't think there is a feature to do what you want. Ignore or the end button send it directly to vm as you no doubt have figured out already.

I can touch the volume strip on the dash and it mutes the phone call.
I know, not very helpful, but thought i'd let you know.

Look in the registry around:

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\

There's a key there called EnableRingVolumeMute

If there isn't, try creating it and setting it to 1. Mine seems to mute the call fine with that setting.

Hitting the "reduce volume" slider on my dash silences the ringer -- no registry hacks needed. Don't know if this works on HTC unit...

El Perfecto!!!!!!! The registry hack worked on the S620.. Apparently it comes with EnableRingVolumeMute set to 0.

Muchas thanks!

This needs to go in a FAQ.

Has anyone figured out how to change the JOGGR's launch outlook button (bottom button) to launch something else, say, FlexMail? Even though I have FlexMail set as the default mail program, it still launches Outlook...any ideas?

I hate Outlook email (it does not work well with IMAP, like, it won't delete things unless you resync it manually. Painful!)

Got this from www.smartphonethoughts.com just now:

Well that sure didn't take long. Just 1 day after the Dash hit the streets, akil, staulkor, and some others over at Howard Forums has found a way to change the functionality of the volume jogger on the Dash to include scrolling and launching programs. You'll need to modify the registry to get this to work. So, make sure you back things up before making any changes. Here are the changes you need to make to get this working.

To Enable Scrolling:
• HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\SwitchToAudioFun c = 0

Tap on Bottom Key Launches IE Mobile:
• HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\BottomKeyApplica tionName = \Windows\iexplore.exe

Tap on Top Key Performs Back
• HKCU\ControlPanel\JobBar\Settings\TopKeyApplicatio nName = BACK

You can replace any these with your favourite applications. Other common applications would be START (to Launch the Start menu), \Windows\tmail.exe to launch Outlook Mobile, or http://www.SmartphoneThoughts.com to launch IE Mobile with your favourite website Wink Let us know how you make out!

Here is a utility I wrote that will let you change almost all of the JOGGR settings on the phone. It will also let you change the apps that launch when you press the Camera key and the T-Zones key. The app shortcuts must be in the shortcut file format because I didn't know enough about the Windows CE LNK format to simply let you pick an EXE.

I am going to add support to let you change the apps that launch from the JOGGR bar, but wanted to get this version out now so you don't have to dig through the registry to get scrolling working.

It requires the .NET CF 2.0 or higher.

Sweet, good job! Will give it a shot.

This would be a good base for a simple DASH/S620 tweak util.. 'Cause there's a couple good tweaks out there as well.

The version for the ARMV4I is the correct one. Try the installer at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0c1b0a88-59e2-4eba-a70e-4cd851c5fcc4&DisplayLang=en. That link will take you to the .NET CF 2 SP1 MSI file.

Basically when I run it it gives an Error.

An unexpected error has occurred in the DashConfig.exe
Select Quit and then restart this program or select Details for more information.

When I hit details:

UnauthorizedAccessException
at System.IO.__Error.WinIOError()
blah blah blah.. basically a whole lot of errors

I would love for this to work..

You probably have to Application Unlock the Dash before you can run this software.

This is for the SDA so I'm not sure if it will work on the dash or not. It's worth a try.

That worked! Although I couldn't alter the second registry entry as the tutorial states, nor could I find naked women to hang around while I did it :D

but the JOGGR utility works now.

Strangely enough, when I enable the JOGGR icon option, it only shows up if I soft reboot but then goes away shortly afterwards. Must be T-mobile ROM thing that's interfering with that.

Also, is there a switch between JOGGR functions and system volume?

You can use the Dash Config app to change the JOGGR's function by changing the option under "JOGGR Mode".

Would you guys want to be able to map the camera key to toggle the JOGGR from scroll mode to volume mode?

It would be nice to design the interface to allow the enduser to map any key to the jogger. Also provide a config file the user can define the keys and reg settings. This way you won't have to build 10,000 different versions or manage different configurations soley by code.

Just a suggestion.

Is there any possible way to completely disable the in-call volume function, while retaining the scrolling functions? I am CONSTANTLY bumping the volume up and down during calls with my ear/face, etc. This is the only thing I absolutely hate about the Dash. If you could come up with a solution, even if it involved triggering something with a remapped key, I would be very grateful.

double sliding but holding it is continuous scroll and you can control the speed by moving it up or down

Kennie From Intergalactic Communications, I like what HTC and TMO did with the Dash, thanks for the volume control slide bar (ERROR), everybody is mad, because they think it does not work right, Wrong! Go to (http://www.1800message.com/default.aspx) Turn you Dash into the ULTIMATE INTERGALACTIC DEVICE and let your fingers do the walking and Slide in style. Another must have (APP) ( THE DOPPLER WEATHER RADAR APP), GO to (dopplerradio.net/dopplermobile-beta). Live TV, the SLINGBOX works in full screen on the DASH, even using (GPRS/EDGE). what fishel was talking about is to find the command of volume and not an utility. for assigning commands to buttons you actually don't need an utility, this can be done by editing the registry.

Well I found such an app --- on XDA-Developers (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=260213) also here (http://handheld.softpedia.com/get/System-Utilities/Enhancements/Volume-Ctrl-9249.shtml#)

So I mapped it to the bottom jogger button on my dash and the D-Pad up and down are volume up and down, to make it go away just tap the bottom jogger button again.

Now if it could mute the volume I would be a happy camper. :)

I've read about how to change the volume strip to do other functions but when reading the directions, I don't know what HKCU means?

What does that mean? Are there any easier instructions to follow?
I want to use it like the track ball of the Blackberry.
Thanks

turtle10:

You have the modify the Registry of the device through a Registry Editor application to edit those keys.

HKCU refers to HKEY_CURRENT_USERS

If you are unfamiliar with the registry, it is highly advised that you don't modify the buttons.

with this program you can make the jogger silence the ringtone, won't reject it unless you touch and hold it for 2 secs(you can change the duration or turn reject off) run it from your SD card or your device

http://rapidshare.com/files/23560774/DashConfig.exe.html

**note: it doesn't install to your start menu, you just run it from wherever you save it, each time. you can move it or make a shortcut of it in total commander and move it to the start menu to make it easier

Is there a way to use the volume strip hack for scrolling AND silence incoming calls without immediately sending the caller to voicemail? I would like to use the volume strip as a scroll bar and still be able to silence the device when someone is calling.

Is this possible?

chaznet
9th April 2007, 09:59 PM
It's a quick tap to the volume strip that'll mute the incoming call, without any changes at all. A tap 'n hold a bit longer and it goes to voicemail. Personally, I found a regedit somewhere to get rid of the longer tap to voicemail as it was so easy to accidentally send to voicemail instead of muting the incoming call. If you want to do the same, here it is:

Touchbar Reject Call setting
Set to 0:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Jogbar\Settings\Ena bleRejectCallFunc

As far as using the touchbar for scrolling, good luck -- tried that and turned it off after 5 minutes -- what a pain.

richy240

I know, scrolling with the strip sucks. But I keep bumping the strip with my ear and turning the volume up/down unless I have the scrolling feature activated. Is there any way around this

Anyway, the touch strip sucks. If it weren't for that, this device would be *perfect*. Let's hope the next one has a real JOGGR instead of this crappy strip!

There is a way, but the Rogers version must accomplish it with different registry changes than the Dash or S620-- guess you'll have to wait for someone to figure it out, maybe that'll be you...

To mute an incoming call by double pressing hte Jogg on the s620 use the following regedit

Hkey_current_user-->control Panel-->Jogbar-->Settings-->EnableRingVolumeMute the value data should be set to 1

Yeh i have the same problem on my rogers device. I've searched everywhere and cudnt come up with anything. I think for Dash owners, they just hit the joggr and it goes off. We'll see if flashing to Excalibur Rom helps. Im waiting for the WM6 excalibur release, then i'll flash it.

richy240
30th April 2007, 06:35 PM
That's how you do it: tap/touch the JOGGR and it goes silient. Unless, of couse, you've disabled it because it SUCKS (like I have). In that case, you can't silience a call, just ignore it. You can thank HTC for that.

chaznet
30th April 2007, 08:12 PM
After flashing my Dash to WM6, I noticed the touchstrip defaults to not being able to reject calls. That's good, the first time around with WM5 it defaulted to being on for that and it was a pain until I found a registry entry that shut it off.

Previously, I could tap the strip during an incoming call to silence the ring, but not reject the call. I don't seem to be able to do that with WM6, or at least I haven't figured out how yet. The registry seems to have this turned on, but couldn't get it to work.

I have noticed the touchstrip is much better behaved for volume control in this version. Previously, you would just touch the uppper or lower part of the strip and the volume would change -- now, you must slide your finger upwards or downwards for volume to change -- harder to accidentally change the volume.

There is a regedit to enable the JOGGR to silence an incomming call, but not reject it. search the forum for a regediting program and you can make the following edit:

Mute Function:
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\
EnableRingVolumeMute
change to 1.
(thanks to xda-developers)

then you want to tap the joggr once or twice to silence it - if you have vibe & ring, it might not silence until the current vibe sequence pauses (a bit of a delay)

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question but I searched for it in the foruns and on the internet and couldn't find an answer.

I used SetJogbar to change my Dash's Joggr back to act as the HTC Jogbar, but I am having a lot of trouble using the app buttons on the dash (the upper and lower portions).

I always start the mapped apps (Task Manager and Mobipocket) by accident, but when I want to use it it's always very dificult. I keep on tapping in diferent parts of the JOGGR, sliding my fingers slightly and making all kinds of crazy movements and eventualy the app is launched.

Is there a correct way to use it, I got a faulty unit or is it actualy very badly implemented?

Thanks for the help.

I have a T-mobile Dash and T-mobile disabled the joggr ability and made it a volume button. using the attached program you can enable the Joggr to Scroll and you can assign functions and programs to the buttons (e.g. my top button opens pie and the bottom opens the task manager). Yes, it does.

as of Excalibur ROM version V1.11.407.2:

...Implement the double click to mute ringer for scroll mode.

1. make sure that JOGGR is in scroll mode

2. during incoming call: make double-tap on the JOGGR between "up" and "down" arrows.

3. Call goes silent immediatelly.

I have verified that with latest WM6 official ROM and it works fine.

Ok, I have the same problem, but the difference is that I read your post all the way and I see where the bug can be coming from. If HE like me is using WM5 and not WM6, that may be why the jogger does not let you silence the call.

QUestions now:

If I upgrade to WM6, is there any chance my phone will be locked?
(From what I can see, it was a factory unlock phone, since I have no logo from any carrier)

If I dont like WM6, how can I set it back to WM5?

Thanks a lot for your help every one!

SecureGSM

You do not have to upgrade your handset to WM6 just because of this minor issue.
Here is something for you to try first:

It will mute the ringer as soon as you touch the jogger.

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings\

There's a key there called EnableRingVolumeMute

If there isn't, try creating it and setting it to 1.

Before you install SetJogBar (great program), make sure your phone is decertify. Also look around for DashConfig.exe which also works great with SetJogBar. It takes time getting use to and I would recommend if you use your Top/Bot buttons to open up programs that you set the setting to very fast so you don't accidently open it when you are listening to calls or whatever. With very fast sensitivity, it's like using your finger to double click on your mouse. As for the scrolling, I think we all know it's ups and downs on how reliable it really is. And for future references, please search before asking. I knew about SetJogBar before I even bought the phone by a simple google search. This was once of the VERY FIRST issues that many people wanted to know when they got their Dash and there's numerous threads and videos about it.

If you are using the new HTC Rom it gives you the option.. If your phone is CID unlocked.. under setting, more more, jogger, to choose scroll or volume option.. I don't know if anyone else can relate, but I find myself constantly hitting the lower portion of the JOGGR and accidentally opening Outlook E-mail. I would rather not disable JOGGR since I use it a lot to mute incoming calls. Is there a way that I can just disable the Outlook shortcut portion of the JOGGR to make it not do anything?

Thanks...

Try the file attached:
Then run it even if it says that your phone isn't a Dash.
Then for "Bottom Key App" leave blank
And for "Bottom Key Param" leave blank too.
And to finish save it.

You can edit the registry below. Remove \windows\tmail.exe.

Registry Jogbar
\HKCU\ControlPanel\JogBar\Settings
- BottomKeyApplicationName
value = \Windows\tmail.exe
- BottomKeyAppParameter
value = -service "ActiveSync"

Now let me ask you guys. Is there a way to leave the Scroll function working, while preventing it from manipulating the Volume when in the middle of call. My cheeks are constantly altering the volume and it's getting quite annoying.

If not, is there a way to disable all the JOGGR's functions (including scroll and volume functions) except the "silence ringer" function?

Thanks in advance...

I searched but couldn't find how to set Joggr to scroll by line instead of page when scrolling in sms or e-mails. With SK Tools I changed the scrolling by d-pad for word and notes from page to line; however, can't find the setting to apply that to sms/e-mails. It changed after I did a hard reset last night.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Good "ceregeditor" download it and use it. It edits the phone's registry, from your desktop computer. No fiddling with the phone to edit the registry anymore :)

This may be common knowledge, but it is new to me. I am outside of T-mobile's coverage area today, and I see that the large E changes to a small E with a triangle, which I think means that I am roaming. If I recall, in WM5, the triangle was a large icon all by itself on the status bar. I have attached a screen shot. I wonder if anyone has compiled a legend of all the icons and their meanings.

Is there key unlock based on JOGGR (like on iPhone)?

Has anyone managed to figure out how to silence an incoming call if the phone is locked?

What if the JOGGR is disabled by choice?
My JOGGR is disabled because it usually is more of a hassle when it's in my pocket than it's worth.

Is it possible to remap a key to do this? Or a program that would do it?

Why does LowLight never run when I click the JOGGR Bar 3 times? I have it enabled and it never works unless I check the box for LowLight and click done. Then it will run. But if I lock the phone and unlock it, LowLight turns off and it's bright again, but it still shows the process in Tasks.

Any ideas?

Lowlight overrides the screen-off functionality. So, when it runs all the time, it runs ALL the time! :(

Actually there are some registry changes that make it run permanently dim. The only problem I have is, after making the change, the display goes white (instead of turning off) after I unlock it... so I never lock it. If you're interested, I can tell you what I changed and you can play around too ;)

It's something NRG wrote to add a panel to WM6.1 for your favorite programs so you don't have to go to START all the time.

I use BL toggler...i love it.
If you decide to use it...remember to run the default.exe in BL Toggler folder first.
Why? Cause it needs to know what the default settings are so when you toggle the program on/off it will actually keep the back light on or off.

It's great for when surfing the net or watching a movie....it will keep the back light on instead of dimming or turning of if you dont hit a key on the pad.

That's the base key - but yeah, a word of warning: you may have to hard reset your phone if you put crazy values in here. What I found worked, was copying the "bkl1:" value from the profile BacklightOff to On... I just can't lock my phone.

Does anyone have a permanent fix for this?

Thanks

After you disable the JOGGR, do you reboot? Sometimes rebooting is just the ticket... If that doesn't work, you may want to tweak the registry settings.

Still no dice. I'll do some searching through the registry so I can permanently disable the JOGGR. If someone knows right where to look and what to change I would appreciate the assistance.

I hate the darn thing. Phone rings, stick my hand in my pocket, JOGGR rubs on my hand or pocket and ignores the call. Getting a bit annoyed LOL...

Thanks in advance.

In your Windows folder on your phone, there is a section of pics that say Click two and Click One Lower Down Scroll and Goutte Lower down Scroll. There are other pictures called Jogger Volume and popcork lower down that you might want to play with as well. Just make whatever sound you want to replace these with and change the name to the one you want to replace. Drop the new file into the Windows directory and that should do it.

it's gotta be something in the rom because i didnt want mine on because of the volume accidently being turned down during a phone call...so i went into the settings and turned it off...it never turned off...so i went into the reg editor and turned it off that way...it then turned off, but only for a period of time and it started scrolling again and changing the volume...so its gotta be in the rom...other than that...props to you kavana! great rom

lol i dont convert wav files cause they are compressed, making them smaller in size. MP3 uncompresses the file and makes them larger. Since there are no vocals in a wav, useless space will be taken up. :p
