The rear speaker of my JAMin blew... I need a replacement so I can do the work myself and not have to send it over for a week to the lab. Where can I get one?
Thanks,

Hi
I could read a lot of posts on that issue and found this solution:
Remove the battery cover. Then the camera cover: to do so, lift up the gently the cover starting from the side of the battery.
You will see something looking like a fan. This is the speaker. the problem is with the red wire whixh connect the speaker.
Turn on your prophet and run your favourite MP3 song.
then touch the red wire with your stylus. The sound should come back. Insert a piece of folded paper to keep the cable properly fixed. that's all
Watch out not to wish to fix it too nicely, you could damage the wire !
Hope this help, otherwise a return to the service department will be necessary !
Hope this helps

I went here to learn how to remove the flap to the speakers:

Well, my speaker had the voice coil broken... touching the membrane would bring it back to life but that is no real solution. I replaced it with a speaker from a used old cellphone with some minor use of hot glue to fix it in place and seal around it.
It works now just as new.

yeah it is a real Problem.
mine is broken twice in 6 months.
tried the paper thing. but it sometimes sounds weird and there's some hissing. maybe I did it wrong. so I tweak it a bit and just lost it completely. no sound whatsoever now.
went to the service center today. they said that they have a new batch of speaker which supposed to be better than the previous one. if anyone can confirm.

That's great, this fixed my problem. After I touch the red wire with my stylus, the speaker just works fine, don't even need a folder paper.

I'll try this one myself - my speaker just died again - it's been back once already.

Well, I followed the instructions above and now I have a working speaker again. A very low tech fix to a high tech device. ;)

I have found a small bit of sponge does the job better than folded paper.

Hay Guys,
I am suffering from this nasty problem since sometime. My brother has tweaked the speakers with a metal piece seem to work. However if I use speakerphone, it goes off.
Is there a permanent solution to this constant spurce of unhappiness.
Incidently I have been blessed with a on & off camera problem as well. I think I will never buy a DOPOD product in my life again.
My Camera has those colour matrix instead of proper images. Occasionally it behaves normally. I have tried hard reset already.
Any body? help !!!!!

I also have the speaker problem. And thanks for all of you to suggest that sponge and folder trick. I did it and i have put a small slice of ear plug sponge. For past 2 days my spearker is working. But dont know how long will this sponge give my speaker lifesupport. I am sure after few days again its going to be problem. Hey,...... is there anyone in this thread who has used sponge/paper and the speaker is working for long time.. at least a year ?.
These HTC products seem really bad quality products.

It's too bad they saved on the speaker. Guess the manufacturer of the speaker had a very nice presentation @ HTC :D
Trying to download that pdf file, but it's not working :/ However I've read on other occasions that people talk about that motorola speaker as a replacement. Might be worth giving a more detailed look into that.
What exactly is the problem with the speaker btw? Did anyone narrowed that down already? Why is the speaker not functioning properly?

I had the same problem as you guys, and I could fix it with the "foam piece" trick.
Do you think it could had been caused by my car dashboard magnet, which in some way could have "attracted" the speaker towards the outside?
In other words was anyone of you also using such a magnet when it happened?
Thanks and happy new year to all

It´s very easy to find replacement at ebay.
make a search on ebay with rear speaker qtek htc s200 and you will find a lot of sellers for this item. it´s very cheap and easy to replace it.
I tried too with other speakers, and motorola ones goes ok. (model from motorola v 525), the only problem is the different shape, it´s not easy to put it on the hole for it.
That´s all.
excuse my bad english, next time will be better.

Thanks Regis..
My O2 neo speaker went bad recently for no reason at all. It was the same issue of the red coil disintegrating itself from the main cone of the speaker.
As done by the ingenious friends, I used a thermacol ball to hold the coil in place. I know this is a temporary solution but it did bring back the sound in my handset.
Thanks,
Umesh

Thank you, TheBrit. I used a piece of cotton swap since I could not find any sponge. Your method works although it impairs the sound quality. But at least I have the sound back.

Hi there.
I was having the same problem, tried the cotton trick for a few days, but eventually the issue returned...
i talked with pocket PC techs who quoted $75 + shipping both ways to replace the speaker which seemed a bit too much ...so i just bought a replacement speaker on ebay item # 250140632357 which also comes with a screwdriver to open the internal screws...
it seems pretty easy to do using the pictures on modaco and with the help of the forum guru's ... we'll see...
if anyone's done this already, any tips or suggestions?
Thanks

Ok, as a follow-up to my post. I ordered the speaker from hitechhk on Ebay (arrived in 5 business days). I installed it using the excellent Modaco post/pictures and all is right in the world again.
It took only about 25 minutes for a novice such as myself. The speaker fit perfectly and even came with the needed screwdriver. Much better than the other option, sending to CA for a repair and cost of about $100.
My total cost $11.
Hope this helps someone contemplating this repair.

Ok guys. Tried the touching/paper trick without results. My problem seems to be the same as yours yet slightly different:
I was on my way home listening to the music in my S200 (I have a 4gb card). When I reached home I unplugged the headphone and found it weird that no sound was coming out of the phone. I asked someone to call me, and even if I could answer I could no hear a sound and the caller could not hear me. I tried the other way (me calling) and the results were the same. I soft reseted it and nothing. I hard reseted it and still nothing. I plugged back the phones and it worked. Now I can only use the phone with the headphones plugged in.
As I said I tried the "red wire touching thing" and the "paper thing" without results.
Any help around here? I am in Brazil so sending the thing back to Taiwan or wherever is the client support seems pretty much out of question.

The problem you are having is with the microswitch in the 2.5mm headphone socket. It didn't release properly when you unplug the handfree.
There should be threads discussing on these here. Basicly what you can try is to quickly plug in and out the 2.5mm connector several times. You may have the microswitch released in this way. You can refer to "http://www.modaco.com/M600-speaker-problem-t254192.html" for further discussion.
The 'paper thing' is to fix a bad speaker. It won't help on your socket switch.

:( well nothing...
Took it to a repair shop that told me that the speaker blew (which I know can't be true because when I call the phone, it rings...)
I am really desperate at this point wondering if I just shelled 500USD into a huge 4 gb mp3 player...and that because I have a 4gb SD card. If I hadn't...

Guys, dont mess around with the folded bit of paper.
Look on EBAY, i got a replacment rear speaker (exact size for prophet/jamin) including the tools and screw driver needed for under £5 (<$10). it takes about 10 minutes to fit if you have taken the cover off before.
I was quoted £75 to have the work done so im £70 in pocket and have some tools to boot!:D
See link for how to take cover off, but its straight forward enough, be careful when removing rear cover as speak cable (short) is attached to board and its fiddly, use wife tweasers!!:D :D
