I have a sound called msgbox.wav that is very annoying. I use a onebridgeclient for checking my work email and everytime this connects I get this msgbox clunky sound. I found the file but I cannot remove it or change it to something else because it is writeprotected. Is there anything I can do?. I cannot change the sound in normal settings. I have shut every sound down and still it goes of when connecting to my inbox.

Try using TotalCommander, freeware file manager. It can replace most protected files (copy over it)

If in any cases that it is not able to, the program may be using it. Try disabling the problem by either some TaskManager, or remove them from the start list, and try again. Then re-enable the program.

I hate programs that tried to be funny with so call 'real-sound' effects.

I just tried to delete it using resco file explorer, didn't work. Gives me a message that the file is in ROM memory and can't be deleted, is there really nothing I can do?

You can't delete the file, you have to overwrite it as hanmin says above, just create a wav file with no sound, make sure you name it msgbox.wav and paste it in your windows directory, a warning will come up asking if you want to write over it, just click ok and bobs your uncle, sorted!
