View Full Version : New ROM version 1.11.405.4 (ENG) for HTC Excalibur

pof

A new test ROM for the HTC Excalibur is available on xda-developers!

Rom Version: 1.11.405.4 (English)
Radio Version: 4.1.13.28_02.63.90
Bootloader: 1.11.0000 (Sep 12 2006 at 13:08:40)

You can find the ROM on XDA-Developers FTP:

RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.4_4.1.13.28_02.63.9 0_Test.exe (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/smartphones/Excalibur/RUU_Excalibur_HTC_WWE_1.11.405.4_4.1.13.28_02.63.9 0_Test.exe)

For the curious out there, the ROM is shipped in NBH format (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_NBH) so you can extract it if you want to look at the ROM components, the bootloader (SPL.nb 512K size!) has a lot of debugging information enabled as this is a Test release ROM.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/images/icons/icon4.gif EDIT: For those people having problem in updating to new Excalibur ROM due to Invalid Model ID error, that is due to bootloader version on Dash. You need to flash this bootloader first and then flash the Excalibur ROM. Also, this bootloader CAN be used for flashing new ROMs on pre-production Excalibur devices.

RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/smartphones/Excalibur/RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe) contains bootloader version 1.11.0000 (Sep 26 2006 at 20:19:20).

PS: I don't own an Excalibur and I can't test it so I don't know what's on this ROM, if you try it please post details about it.

Enjoy! ;)

Pof, sorry, I would like to test but... I can't suggest. If someone can upload the HTC original ROM I will test the TEST rom :-)

My ExCaliber is running a earlier, but, very stable ROM.

Radio Version 4.1.13.21_02.42.90

Be great to try something new ... I'll let you know how it works out and when I get the ExCaliber commercial ROM I'll throw it up here for you.

Hey guys,

I just got my HTC S620 from Expansys TODAY, and you'll be surprised to hear that it is running the ROM posted in the first post of this message:

ROM: 1.11.405.4
Radio: 4.1.13.28_02.63.90

The phone is very stable and fast, with no issues at all. Very pleased with the OS (previous Windows phone was a slow Tmobile Vario). Plus the form-factor is superb.... :-)

I'll let you know if I run into any bugs. So far though (1/2 day of use), no issues....

What is this new ROM supposed to fix anyway?

How good is this ROM? Is just the basic S620 SW with some engineer plugins? How easy is it to upgrade the ROM? Ive never tinkered with upgrading on windows mobile phones.

Is it possible to only upgrade the radio? My ROM version is newer (HTC T-Mobile Dash).

In the positive, can you please outline how to do it?

Thank you in advance. I am in above my head ;-) but would love the "sensatioinal battery life".

I believe, since this ROM is from HTC, you are going to have to CID unlock your Dash in order for it to accept this ROM since it was designed specifically for the S620. Haven't seen that anyone has figured out a CID unlocking utility yet.

Now, if anyone can create RADIO upgrade only. I'll really LAIKEEE! :)

I extracted the radio from the shipped ROM, but as I don't have an Excalibur this is *TOTALLY UNTESTED* and I don't know if it will work or it will brick your unit, so upgrade at your own risk:

Excalibur_EXPERIMENTAL_Extracted_RADIO_4.1.13.28_0 2.63.zip (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/smartphones/Excalibur/Excalibur_EXPERIMENTAL_Extracted_RADIO_4.1.13.28_0 2.63.zip)

I put the MaUpgradeUT_NoID.exe from HTC Magician as utility because I guess radio upgrade bootloader commands are the same, at least this is how it works on the Hermes for extracted radio upgrades... but I have no idea about Excalibur. BTW, the extracted radio is in file "radio_.nbf", you can test other RUU if the Magician one is not valid for Excalibur.

Remember: RADIO UPGRADE ONLY TOTALLY UNTESTED! UPGRADE AT YOUR OWN RISK, DON'T CRY TO ME IF YOU BRICK YOUR DEVICE !!!

any ideas when the tmobile dash rom wil be available for download? or the final release version. The test rom says "UI BUILD!! Test ONLY as soon as it boots. it's right before the green WindowsMobile push technology screen.
anyone know how to change that.

I just got done upgrading my unlock tmobile dash to the test rom for the exaclibur. worked fine after the bootloader upgrade. the initial boot after the rom was upgraded took about 5 minutes. i seriously thought i bricked it.

this is a quote from another post from this forum. i think it would work? unless its UK english i asked the same question above but then i edited my post to ask another question

I've found this: (sorry, I have to repeat this sequence)
"Your device Locale - how to change the letters entered when pressing keys on the hardware keyboard.
Change slide-out keyboard layout

If you have a Device from one country, but would like to use the keyboard layout of another, you can change the keyboard's language setting to do so...

For US layout (QWERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0409 (REG_SZ string)
For German layout (QWERTZ):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0407 (REG_SZ string)
For French layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 040C (REG_SZ string)
For Spanish layout (AZERTY):
HKCU\ControlPanel\Keybd\Locale = 0C0A (REG_SZ string)

For other codes, see: http://www.microsoft.com/globaldev/r...p/xp-lcid.mspx
Note that the values are STRING values, not DWORDs!
"

Alas, it seems to me somewhat doubtable that it be in the HKCU section, having assumed it to be a machine-wide setting. It does not work in either place. Can anybody confirm or correct this setting for smartphones?
Thanks Michael

Anyone tried that radio-only update? I don't want to be the guinea pig :-)

ID64 tried it and said the RUU was complaining about "wrong device". If you know which RUU to use (should check radio checksum after flashing and get the update in nbf format) you can test the extracted radio, otherwise it's not possible to flash.

OK Pof, Here is the rundown on this ROM.

First off it obviously removes the previous splash screens and sounds.

It sometimes appears to be a liitle sluggish on the OS side, then others it tend to feel pretty speedy.

Incall was pretty bad. I couldn't understand what the otherside was saying, but they heard me fine.

I haven't had enough time to notice anything with the battery.

I'm, having Wifi connection problems I didn't have before. But when I am connecting it seems it might be rendering a little faster.

I have to go to work I'll comment more later

If you are happy with device, and don't see why anybody would go through the trouble, then don't. but for most of us flashing the rom and tweaking extended rom is not for gaining productivity, just a mere sickness or more of a hobby, same reason I am running Full version of OS X on my PC, I could just buy a ,Mac but how fun would that be. With that attitude, there would be no such thing as linux, solaris, or all the other opensource projects. so think of it as a hobby more than any rational thinking. it does not matter how stable a rom runs i know for myself, i will still try out the newest, thats why i have Two. same reason hard geeks rarley go mac, the damn OS is to damn perfect.(I am a PC guy, but it is the truth). so there is my thought for the day...i am bored waiting for delayed flight.

This rom version is put on devices by htc without that notification so this rom most be availeble as a normal rom and not as a test rom.
Does anyone now how i can get the normal rom version back?

Great, thanks for the information.
Just for clarification, step 1. 1. CID unlock the unit requires paying someone to unlock the phone and without completing step 1. there is no point in experimenting with the new or different ROMS.

Make sure that you are CID unlocked. Do not confuse SIM unlocking with CID unlocking. If you need help determining if you are CID unlocked I've got one question, did you pay to get CID unlocked? If yes then you know what you are doing but if no then you are not CID unlocked and it will not flash.

For some reason in my readings through the different posts, I thought the bootloader downgrade allowed bypassing step 1.. Wishful thinking on my part I guess.

Correct. step #1 is not required.
If what you say is true, and CID unlocking is not required prior to flashing a phone with a different ROM, do you have any idea why when I attempt to flash my T-Mobile Dash with the "upgrade only" Rom the result is the INVALID VENDOR ERROR? Same result when attempting to flash with any of the rom updates.

Meaning what? It should be working for me on my Dash? Won't work on my Dash? I'm not using it properly?

I'm only sure of one thing, I receive this error when trying to downgrade the boot loader: INVALID VENDOR

If the flash is supposed to work on my Dash, then I would like to figure out how to make it work. If it is not supposed to work with the Dash, then I need not proceed.

1. put your DASH in bootloader mode manually.

2. run bootloader upgrade only package found on local ftp. I will not point you directly to this file. you have to understand that I might be bound by some Agreements and /or contracts, restricting me from disclosing certain kind of information or knowledge.
I have no idea how and who have uploaded this bootloader upgrade package to local ftp but it seems to not supposed to be publically available.
anyway. that bootloader is designed to bring HTC Excalibur to special mode, allowing for cross vendor firmware update.

3. run full rom update package.

that worked for many DASH users. May be Pof can explain better than me.

In my experience, you always have to have an unlocked phone. Sometimes, and by sometimes I mean rarely, a provider won't lock the phone or will unlock it for you. If you ever want to upgrade your ROM I would go ahead and expect to pay the one time fee for the service. It of course never hurts to give it a go round before you pay. ;)

checking the unlock status does tell me that my dash is unlocked. however, reading through 13 pages here and several others elsewhere does not indicate whethere the unit can be restored to an earlier (original version) if the conversion goes wrong. the fact is that to attempt this without such verification seems risky because my cell is the only phone i use (skype really does not count) and to be without a phone seems unrealistic.

i stupidly contacted tmobile tech support and asked them this same question and it seems that all they can do is to read from pre-released screens on their computers...in other words they are as stupid as they come...they know nothing. any help here would be greatly appreciated.

All I can offer you all is this. I have a T-mobile Dash and was running ROM Version 1.11.531.1 with Radio 4.1.13.24_02.48.90. I already had the phone unlocked from T-mobile so that I could use another sim in it. I then had to go through IMEI-Check.com and pay 38.00 to get it CID unlocked. After getting it CID unlocked I then had to run the RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe file and after that I could load any ROM Version that I wanted. Everytime you want to reflash the phone after that you must re-run the RUU_Excalibur_SPL-1.11_UpgradeOnly.exe file in order to load another ROM. I am currently running the 1.11.405.4 Rom Version without any issues. But beware there is no XT9 with any of the HTC Roms only the Tmobile ROM and Dopod ROMs seem to have this. Hope this helps you.

I assume it's the phone and not the network, since some ppl around me have Cingular that works fine, but Dash is not roaming on the Cingular network.

I don't really mind T-Mobile branding and all that crap, but I'm really interested in upgrading to this ROM version for the radio ROM update. Does anyone who upgraded saw an improvement in connectivity?

yes, i noticed this...so how do i type things like the letters "w,e,r, s, d, f, x c, v" does not seem a way to do this unless i use a bt or other external keyboard..any ideas? because this is a pain. not that i do that much text messaging but it also applies to any feature in which these letters are needed. also be aware that the alt and cap keys have no effect. also the letters a and z do not work at all, and no java apps can be installed.

have you changed the keyboard language to US English? set it both in Start>Settings>More..>Regional Settings..then change language to US English then change Locale to English (United States).

then go into your registr settings to HKEY_Local_Machine\Hardware\devicemap\KEYBD and change the value data for curlang to 1033.

If you dont have a registy editor here is one. Just unzip it and copy it to your phone and run it.

I'm using a t-mobile dash with
ROM version: 1.11.531.1
radio version 4.1.13.24_02.48.90
the phone was sim and cid unlocked at imei site
so do i need to run the bootloader first
and then load the test rom?
to run the bootloader and the rom do i just run the exe with activesync connected?
and just to confirm this rom update gets rid of all t-mobile branding?
does it revert back to original htc settings?
like will it default to ABC instead of t9?
thanks for all the help
hope this fixes buggy alarm too :(

if you're CID/SIM unlocked,

Run the special bootloader ROM

Then install any ROM you want. Do not bother with the test ROM as the actual released ROM from HTC is the same ROM without the test warnings throughout.

I'm also using an unlocked dash and tried to update without the bootloader ROM first - did not work.

I owna US t-mobile dash and recently flashed to this rom. Everything went great but I do have one issue. Ever since I flashed the phone the page up #2, page down #8 on internet explorer doesn't work. I have smartweaker loaded and one of the tweaks is for this. I activate it and i still can't get the feature. I have done all the proper zone and keyboard adjustments to make a US keyboard. I also tried surrealnetworks hacks for this function. I don't know if the reg for the htc rom is different than the t-mobile. If any body can tell me the reg hack or how I can get the feature from smarttweaker to work I would be forever grateful. I hate using the jogger and holding down d-pad is just a pain.

Hey, guys.
I've been following this thread (and others) for the last few days now. Firstly, this site is great!!! Thanks for all the info etc!!
I did try to upgrade my T-Mo Dash, following all instructions to the letter. I'm not new to flashing, having worked my way through a MPx200, 220, Sp3, MDA, SDA, etc, etc.
It does appear that my Dash is CID Locked. I tried upgrading the bootloader first (many times), tried flashing the HTC rom by itself, tried the radio upgrade as well. They ALL fail. The "special" Bootloader upgrade, described by "SecureGSM" unfortunately fails with the "Incorrect Vendor" error....
My Dash is only SIM unlocked from T-Mobile. It's also App unlocked, but not CID unlocked. Like several others in this thread, I am reluctant to pay $38 to just get it CID unlocked, as it will already accept other SIM's..........
I know there are many smartphones/PPC phones that can be CID unlocked without the help of IMEI Check. Surely, there is a way it can be done with the Dash/Excalibur.........!!!! Someone???????? Please Help!!!!???

I've gone through this thread in its' entirety, but what I still don't really understand is why are some people finding it possible to use the 'excalibur upgrade only' bootloader revision on the t-mo Dash, while it won't seem to work for others. I've tried just about every possibility I can think of on my end, but nothing seems to get it to take. I always get the "Invalid Vendor" prompt.

Are there some software revisions made by t-mo on the Dash, where some people have slightly different operating software that is making something like this possible? If not, if someone has the time, I would love a very meticulous step by step for what someone has done to get it happening on the Dash. If it's not different software on the t-mo dash, then it must be something we are doing.

I'm having intermittent issues with all the wireless networking types, such as problems connecting to gprs and 802.11 networks, and when it does work, my gprs/edge is INCREDIBLY slow.

I have read this entire thread - now three times.
I purchased unlock from imei-check.co and the program reports that my device is now unlock.
I tried flashing the bootloader as page one says. I tried from windows and from manual bootloader start.
Then tried over and over again to flash using the latest Tmobile firmware flash -- I keep getting that same error regarding the wrong device.

Any suggestions given that I have read all I know to read and tried everything previously suggested?
I would like to upgrade to WM6

Thanks

Me too.... in desperation :-(

first unlock the phone (cid unlock)
here:
http://www.imei-check.co.uk/dashunlock.php

then download the rom for wm6

and follow this steps :

Tools you need:
===============
- HexWorkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
the ROM of your choice
- Winzip or Winrar
- a valid UNL file for YOUR phone

Preparation:
============
a) install HexWorkshop and Winzip or Winrar on your pc
b) in explorer on pc, RIGHT click on the ROM of your choice and use: "Extract files to folder ..." from conext menu Now it will unpack all the files
c) in the new folder you will have ONE file like "HRUU_signed.NBH" (*.NBH) RIGHT click on the .NBH file and use: "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from context menu
d) You'll see on the 5th row EXCA20000 ==> !!! make it EXCA***** (5 stars) and save the file
e) Now RIGHT click on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and use: "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop" from conext menu
Search for word "BsaD5SeoA" (without quotes, case sensitive)
You'll find it around address 0x3FC6C ==> !!! replace "BsaD5SeoA" with "IMEICHECK" (without quotes) and save the file

ROM-Update:
===========
1) take SIM card and SD card OUT of the phone

2) Connect the phone running windows ce to the pc (normal way).

3) Completely Unlock your phone using our unlocker <== REALLY IMPORTANT

4) After phone is unlocked run unlocker (again) BUT when the unlocker ask for UNL file, remove the USB cable from the phone THEN press "Cancel" on the unlocker select file window (unlocker will close on PC). NOTE: The screen on the device will not show something usefull when in this mode. Most probably it is complete WHITE. !!THIS IS NORMAL!! Don't touch phone, let it like it is!

5) After you closed the unlocker, attach usb cable again (phone has still white screen)

6) start (the modified) ROMUpdateUtility.exe

7) when update finished and device started you will get a message: "Data Crashed, contact service provider" (!NO PANIC!)
==> Simply fix this problem by running the unlocker again and this time select the key file normal way (full unlock process again).

just follow it exactly and it will work,
i just got scared my self when i got data chrashed, but a few minutes later everythinbg worked well.

Go here http://forum.Xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435&highlight=FARIA+REAL+THING Things to look for: First you want to find out if your Mda is a G3 or G4 before you do anything! Mostly lkiely your device is a G3,but make sure. Next, you want downgrade back to Button Rom, 105 Rom, you have to do this before you can Cid and SIM unlock your MDA. After you have done all this, download the LOKIWIZ unlock tool. You will find this download their at Faria's school. If you need more help contact me!

Hello,

Need your guys help urgently. I have a HTC Excalibur, but recently did not power ON for about afew weeks, and now when I power ON, it will just hang at the booting green page showing "Windows Mobile Direct Push Technology", and can never goto the main screen at all, suspected that the software corrupted.

Please help, I have tried to use the Activesync but it does not detect my HTC Excalibur. Is there any way to reload back the default software/firmware image back to the device? like BlackBerry device, there's a software application and can use the Desktop Manager Application Loader to reload the software/firmware back to the device, is there such similar way for HTC Excalibur? Or any alternatives to resolve this issue?

Please HELP, any kind soul expert out there to help?

Thousand of thanks.

A treo 750v is not an Excalibur\Dash no wonder it doesn't work... If you wan't to brick your phone then keep flashing ROMs not designed for it...
