hi hello to everybody. i need to know many things. maybe an expert will help me/guide me to the links i needed or maybe reply to me. my gf bought me an o2 xda lli last june. it works fine for me all this time and i have no prob about it. i somehow fried the cradle by inserting a bad adaptor to it and it wont work. so i don't do any backups yet or whatsoever from the pc. all i had was the 1 GB sdcard. i bought an infra red adapter recently and was wondering on trying updated roms with all the hype regarding on better performances as you guys have confessed. now unto my question:

1.do i need to upgrade my rom

XDA IIi
Rom Version: 1.11.00 WWE
Rom Date: 01/27/05
Radio Version: 1.00.00
Protocol Version: 1337.39
ExtROM Version: 1.11.923 WWE

since it never gave me a headache as of yet? honest opinion only please

2.how will i do it? any step by step instruction perhaps since i am very new to this.

3.will i be able to return back to my original rom if i happened not to like the upgrades?

4.again is it safe or worth risking it?any step by step procedure to go back to my old rom would be a big help

what do you think guys?

In my opinion you don't need to update your device! And if I know it right there isn't an update over 1.11.00!

Hi MacGuyver first-of-all Welcome to the XDA community. You have mentioned that you have already burnt-up your cradle, and then have you arranged another yet? Because once you will run-out of the battery completely then you will loose all the information as your XDA will reset to its default position.
As far as the concern about the ROM you have got the latest ROM but I think this Rom is the default rom from the manufacturer, I am using the same rom as well but the edited version (you can see in picture), edited means few features have been altered from the original rom e.g. All the O2’s crap has been deleted and by that the system is using less CPU power. I can help you out if you want that Rom. I am a big admirer of the SPB softwares as they are light and accurate (try the link below) and I am using nearly all of their softwares (pictures attached).

One suggestion would be to check out ebay and some of the other online sites for a replacement cradle and power supply, then you will at least have full connectivity to the computer.

thanks for the warm welcome guys. as you can see i live in the philippines and i am away from the metropolis for the moment till the end of the year. there are no cradles for sale right now at this town. so i might end up buying it by january when i return to work. anyways i have seek help from a local cell shop and the dude there gave me this charger which cost me about 10dollars just to have the unit charged. it was a modified nokia charger, but it gets the job done, so i'm guessing that the infra red device i bought will be of no help for connectivity for my Alpine? actually i never tried it yet with the alpine, because i treasure this baby so much don't want to mess or destriy it and all.

i do consider upgrading the camera though since it looks so dusty. and yes i want to rid it of the O2 stuff as well. so far i am happy with it's performance. got few more questions to ask.

1. by fixing the camera, do i really need to have an entirely new rom on the unit?
2.judging by what you guys said, updating the rom using with the infra red device is not adviseable, or it can be done?
3.do people on ebay really can be trusted sending stuff to remote places like the philippines if i go shopping from there?

thank you and i am very much enjoying my stay here guys

Hey a fellow countryman!

There is a shop that sells XDA series Phones and accessories. It's not a specialty shop but it is the only one in the country. If I remember correctly it is called Brightpoint, located in Araneta Mall.

Been there once, I kinda broke the phone and had to have it reflashedd with the original ROM.

First of regarding "upgrading" the ROM, only the Extended Rom can be manipulated.

The radio version has a newer version, v1.04. Don't know the exact difference and the O2 website doesn't give it to Asian XDA owners (been checking and no upgrades for us in this part of the world).

The WWE ROM is still the same thing as far as I have learned. Although you can change it for another language (Don't know how but a lot of people have been requesting the localized version of the ROMs for their country).

One method of taking out the O2 stuff (without having to reflash) to relieve more memory would be to cancel the installation after a hard reset. It is a bit tedious since the installs are somewhat fast and at times you might cancel the installation of an important program!

Plus, our ExtROM also has the keys and screen locked during installation.

On the other hand you can modify your ExtROM to not install the O2 stuff. That would need a cradle (as far as I have experienced).

Keep reading the forums out there to check if you really want to change your ROM or not.

And if you do want to change your ROM, I also learned from these forums how to do it. Also, one poster gave a website that has it as a step by step. It's not anymore updated (the thread) but is still very useful.

On my next post I'll answer your next questions as long as I am sure of the answers...

Answers to questions:

1. As far as I have learned, the camera fix is a CAB installer inside the ExtROM. More like a patch installer. A new ROM isn't needed unless you want the patch to automatically install after a hard reset.

A copy of the CAB file is just what you need.

If you're thinking of grabbing the camera patch posted here, you'll need to open up the ExtROM file (uploaded here) to get it.

2. I haven't used IR yet but I have had a VERY SLOW experience with it. It took me 20+minutes to receive a 1MB file. (haven't checked my settings, it might have caused the slow transfer)

The ROM upgrades are approx. 50MB total.

From my point of view it's better to go for the cradle.

3. There is the ebay philippines website. Although the cradle doesn't get sold separately there.

As for international ebay, you do shoulder the cost of shipping and would also pay additional if customs over here categorized it as taxable goods.

Try checking out Brightpoint at Araneta Mall sometime, they might have the cradle there as a separate item.

Goodluck and don't forget to backup your old ROM before upgrading!

wow thanks a lot JP2005. that was very informative. yep i heard about brightpoint too. actually i have been there i think last year. my phone came from japan but it is in english. after reading your post i have changed my mind regarding upgrading the rom for the moment, maybe in the future but not now.

i am also interested at this cab file installer for the camera to somehow make it look a bit presentable, if you can fill me in the details or anybody around here to show me some links to it that would be much appreciated. anyways i have printed out the instructions i thought might came handy to me regarding guides. thanks you again good day

can any good soul upload an asian rom [factory default] .nbf file to the server? you know the file being used to backed up in the memory card. thanks

also if i just run the cab files inside the zips of the rom upgrade, will it work or crash? for example the camera fix?

Elo...

I've managed to backup the original ROM sold for the Philippines via the SD card backup.

Unfortunately, it takes the same space as the capacity of the SD card used.

I used the 128MB SD card and have backed up 128MB of ROM data (not the actual size but it uses the whole card).

I'll try to upload it via the download service websites when I have the time. Will PM you or post in this thread the link.

Also, as far as I know you can only flash this file via SD card and bootloader mode.

The necessary programs and instructions I'll try to pack in within an archive file so you don't have to look around for it.

Sorry for late reply...

Here's the link:

The file is in .rar format and is 83MB...

Good luck with your upgrades!

does running the camera patch.cab file alone damages the OS of a pocket PC?

I don't think the camera patch will affect the OS...

The deepest it can tamper is the registry (as far as I know). It creates the required parameters for the camera to operate.

So I think the camera patch will probably do some fixes to the camera (prog) registry...

thanks for the reply. but you are still not very sure about this yet? i am planning on extracting the camera fix from Pugs rom and running it as a cab file fom the ppc. i am still trying to know if my proceedure will work or fail

This probably won't hurt the system...

I've tried PUG's ROM (the whole package) and my Alpine didn't go haywire.

Everything was fine but I kinda missed the rotatescreen icon and didn't know how to let it show via registry edit...

So I went and restored the original ROM and just upgraded the Radio from PUG's ROM and cooked my own Ext_ROM.

you just run the .cab file of the radio? if so that answers question of running these fixes while everything is installed

nope, the radio is flashed...

I just renamed the ms_.nbf and nk.nbf files so they won't flash together with the radio...

thanks a bunch. it clears up everything.

i guess after i do the radio then i have to get sun/globe/smart configs too since they have UK once and that doesn't include our telcos.

If you like I can give you the autoconfig files for our networks.

yeah that would be neat

yeah that would be neat

Here you go!

I've edited the autoconfig.txt for our networks.

Just copy into \Windows\ folder the autoconfig.exe & .txt.

Not sure if it can be call up the CAB files outside of Ext_ROM...

My suggestion would be to put these in with the Ext_ROM (via editing the Ext_ROM and flashing into your PPC) and add the following command lines inside Config.txt:

CPY1:\Extended_ROM\Autoconfig.txt
CPY2:\Windows\Autoconfig.txt
CPY1:\Extended_ROM\Autoconfig.exe
CPY2:\Windows\Autoconfig.exe
EXEC:\Windows\Autoconfig.exe
