I am going crazy trying to find a good mounting system for the Uni in the car (an 01 Focus). I use it for TT and the usual calling so would like it easily visable.
Is the Brodit type of mount better then a windscreen mount - why.
I like the look of the Brodit Active mount, but dont want to loose the Air vent on the dash (can't live with out the a/c in the summer).
If you have pics of the Uni mounted in the car I'd love to see them.
Is your prefered setup best? why?
I hope someone can put me out of my misery

I do have a "fixed" Brodit setup because:
a) the window-suction-cup-thing bounces and vibrates around because of the weight of the Universal
b) In the summer, the heat directly under the windshield is too much for the Universal.
I've placed the universal with a Brodit holder direct in front of the air vent, and the Universal loves it. But with the winter upcoming, don't know how the Universal is holding it when there's hot air flowing around him..

I went with the Brodit active mount.
Advantages:
1: Fixed mount against a solid part of the car which doesnt fall off the windscreen after you go over a bump.
2: Brings the Uni into reasonable reach which suction types didn't.
3: Bluetooth GPS receiver can be connected and charged off the same power supply as the phone, hard-wired into the car's wiring loom so no unsightly wires flailing about the car and being pulled out of the cigarette lighter when you change gear.
Disadvantages:
1: Can't be removed easily.
I haven't got any pictures but will take some later for you to see.

I used this type of mount with XDA II, and now use it with Universal for a long time. The previous one was active, this one is active as well.
I found it better to use Portrait orientation in most cases, except when need to type something, when I use Landscape; not a problem here, you can just turn it around and change between the orientations on-the-go (waiting on red light...)
The power wire has a cigarette-lighter plug, very neat indeed. Just in case my Bluetooth GPS unit gets low on power, I have an additional Y-connector (1 cig lighter plug and 2 cig lighter holes), and a cig lighter charger connection for the GPS. Looks less neat, but then it's got a week on its own without recharge, normal usage -- so don't use this config too often.
Looks very professional. Just like in the picture above, only I have it on my left and use my vent, not missus' :)
That said, my next BMW should probably have Sat Nav in-dash! :D

Hey Guys,
Im not doing a hard sell, but dont forget the Brodit Moveclip system now available. This 3 part pack allows you to slide the holder from the proclip and hot swap brodit holder devices onto the proclip or between cars wth a proclip and moveclip fitted, agreed, this is not ideal for fixed installation holders, but we have installed many onto passive and active with cig lighter holders.
Hope that helps you decide,
