Might be old news, but XDA Orbit has finally appeared on the O2 UK website

https://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon

:) I'll certainly be looking to buy one!!

I spoke to O2 customer services at the end of last month and they told me that it would be available in November. I was a little skeptical and bought the P3300 from Expansys on O2 as they're not offering the Trion yet. From past experience I wouldn't count on it.

I should have waited for the o2 version, been a big fan since my EXEC. Although I was under the impression that o2's relationship with HTC ended along with i-mates. Very happy to see a HTC phone coming from o2, but I wonder will there be more to come?

I believe the HTC relationship has been closed off (with regard to new handsets).

Expect new handsets to come from ASUS (i.e. ZInc, Graphite, etc.) due in Jan.

Apparently someone in O2 Customer Service said that their spanky looking Artemis version was being released on the 27th of this month.

27th release date is correct.

Dude, Do ya know if this device is meant for the Asia market or not?
Coz I remembered here in Singapore, we had Dopod 818Pro instead of the Neo... which means to say only 1 brand will appear here, and that is Dopod.

Can only talk for UK, Germany, and Ireland, i suspect it will not be seen in Asia.

With reference to this Orbit review:

http://www.4winmobile.com/viewtopic.php?p=42938

There are 2 things that I'm puzzled:

1) Infrared Gate: IrDA 1.2, 115200bit/s (SIR/CIR)
I thought the Artemis doesn't have Irda? Is there a mistake in the review?

2) Bluetooth: Bluetooth 1.2
Pretty much everywhere else says its got BT2.0. This review mention that it has BT1.2.

WiFi support is present for both 802.11b and 802.11g connectivity, but unfortunately Bluetooth is still the older 1.2 specification and not the hoped for 2.0 which supports A2DP, etc.

That said Bluetooth connections to the Jabra BT500 headset have been clear and voice dialing is supported and works well.

LB, have ya tried A2DP on this device yet?

Thanks!

MasK,

Yes I have but only with the Samsung SBH 170 headset and it appears to work OK if a little limited in range.

I think this is always the same with a new hardset from O2 but i've just got off the phone with o2 select support and they reckon it's not out till after Christmas :-(

The O2 website is saying its this month.

https://shop.o2.co.uk/ComingSoon

Worth noting though that different service providers within O2 will choose to stock it at different times, so maybe Select are next year.

the O2 Orbit would most probably be released in other parts of the world except asia coz its released bt Dopod instead

LB,

I know this sounds crazy.. but does the device have glabal warranty?
Secondly, do ya think it's available in the Netherlands? It does seem better looking and more sophisticated compared to the stock Artemis, and I'm wondering what my chances are in getting that into Asia. Thanks!

Lord Buckingham

MasK,

The warranty will be valid if purchased from O2, i guess you are asking whether you can get it repaired if you take it outside the UK? I am not aware of any plans to sell the device in the Netherlands, alough it will be available in Germany.

So if O2 don't release on the 27th (this month), the same way I've moved last year from Orange I can move this year to T-Mobile which have the MDA III.

Didn't quite like the phone signal on the Exec anyway...but if they do release...and they have a similar price as T-Mobile, then it isn't worth the hassle. Can't wait till after Christmas...can you?

MasK

Well.. It's not abt waiting. In fact, I'm quite confident the new HTC devices (at least the Artemis) is gonna be released by end of this month during an IT exhibition. The thing is, the Orbit looks nicer than the original Artemis. It'll be real nice to have one here for the sake of uniqueness :)

Well, I in fact like the original as it's a bit...square.

Hmm.. yeah.. I do like squary designs.
It just seems that the Orbit has a better colour combination (something the Atom should have int he first place, instead of making it all black!)
Anyways, design-wise.. the Artemis is definitely better than the trinity, imho. At least they got out of the magician/prophet form factor.

Hi everyone!

I've just had my O2 customer services representative on the phone to confirm that next week I will have the XDA Orbit delivered to my office, so it seems that this time they have done they homework...

Can't wait to play with it!

Have you guys got your Orbits from UK shops?

I asked my local o2 shop (southampton) about it they looked at me with blank faces, no idea what i was on about.

It's not on the website yet either so far as I can see.

Is there a number I can call to order one?

What were the tarrifs like??

cheers

Mine was from a retail store in Liverpool. Got it on upgrade and moved to o2 max to get it for free with Co-pilot GPS Micro SD card, window mount and car charger.

Got the orbit having to wait for a couple of days the co-pilot pack.

i would check with O2 retail rather than customer service, as they are different.

I got it free from O2 shop in Worcester on the £35/month contract. Knocked em down from the £70 they wanted initially. I get 400 mins and 100 txts a month. Happy geeza! They wouldn't throw in an SD card though. Tightarses. ;-)

doesn't the Orbit come with TOMTOM6 like the P3300 in it's other guises?

Is the hardware spec different in anyway to the HTC P3300? GPS still built in?
or have O2 fiddled with it like T-Mobile have?

I hope not. Otherwise i may just buy the P3300 sim free or via expansys.

cheers

O2 are selling it with co-pilot software not tomtom.

Spec is slightly different check out the below review:-

http://www.4winmobile.com/portal.php?topic_id=3830

Has GPS built in :)

I have had a couple of XDA devices in the past but always found they were great PDA's but crap phones - this device in my humble opinion is just enough of both to keep me happy :)

rang up O2 store in London today, they said, they don't even know if O2 is going to do it.

Couldn't be bothered to continue to conversation, as he obviously didn't have a clue!! I'm glad O2 keeps their sales people up to date with the products they sell!!

Just upgraded to the Orbit today (got the last one!).

But am I the only one to feel short-changed?

No MicroSD card,
No GPS software and
No Case!!

What's going on??

Just upgraded today to the Orbit. With an online account as I have they want £99.99 for the upgrade (£30 month). Even if changing to a higher tariff the price is still the same.

So they have it in stock, I also called the Wood Green store in London they have it is sotck as well.

Will post again when received.

Went in to the Bromley O2 store today and they had them in stock, apparently they arrived yesterday. They got one out of it's box to show me - very small and sleek compared to my beastly Exec!

To upgrade on my £25pm tariff they said it would cost £150 for the handset. If I switched to a £35pm tariff (for min. 6 months) it would drop the handset price to £50. If I switched to a £40pm tariff the handset would still be £50 but it would also include the Co-Pilot software.

Also spoke to O2 Online today and they reckon there's now a one week delay showing on the Orbit so they're not expecting it to be available before Monday..

Got my Orbit today from O2 store in Cheapside, London (Last one), and I must say, pretty impressed so far. The Rollr is better than expected, still prefer d-pad, but it may be just a matter of getting use to it. O2 software still slows it down a bit, so didn't install it.
Size is more or less the same as the Prophet (SPV M600), but seems smaller when held in hand.

Bought for £49 with £35 tarrif. Not the best deal, but tired of looking for good deals..

Overclocked to 234, and its running smoothly.
I have come across a couple of times when I wake up the phone and the back light doesn't come back on, leaving me to soft reset or trying to guess the back light settings!! I think this is something to do with what I have installed, could possibly be the over clocking! Not sure, will investigate further if it happens again. I do know some other peeps are having same issues.

Didn't get the Copilot software as I have tomtom already :)
Need to get a memory card to install tomtom maps, until then I can't test the GPS properly.

No case came with the unit which is a bit crap.. But, overall happy!!

How do folks?

My Orbit has apparently been sent for dispatch today (if they can be trusted). It'll be my first pda/phone & am looking forward to seeing what it can do.

I noticed that it doesn't come with the microSD card, which isn't a big deal as they aren't super-expensive. But what I don't know is the max size that is compatible. I have read (I think) that the max is 512mb, which frankly is pants - can anyone vouch for this?

Thanks!

I am using the 2Gb Sandisc Ultra II on my HTC P3300. Cool :)

Yep, it'a all true. It's their O2 not our O2.

No card, no case, no software. £99 with an online account (upgrade) on £30/month. The only good thing was delivery, under 24hrs.

So T-mobile have no Wi-Fi, O2 ships with no case...can anyone do something proper, can we ever have it all? :)

Unless I really bottle it, I think the ETEN x500 beats both the Orbit and MDA III hands down.

Faster processor, Wifi works, Bigger battery but thinner form (although longer and wider) and a leather case included!

Around £360 SIM free by the looks of it. Search for Matt and Tracy's blog, they have a £30 voucher for Clove.
