Downgrade vario G3 2.21, plz final advice!

Hi all,

I've read a lot on this forum and posted quite some questions already. I am now almost ready to start customizing my NLD tmobile vario sid/sim locked 2.21.

However before I can start flashing I first NEED to downgrade (i think). I saw a lot of posts about this and some contradictions. Could someone please help me out or maybe a FAQ should be stickied for these kind of things.

I read the following, what if any is true and how to proceed people:

*) a 2.21 G3 cannot be downgraded (yet)
*) I have to flash the qtek custom rom
*) i have to flash the qtek custom rom twice (why twice?)
*) the SPL won't downgrade and that's allright
*) the SPL won't downgrade and that is a problem
*) I have to extract the custom rom and just run 1 file from it
*) flashing the downgrade rom bricks G3 vario's
*) the downgrade rom gives me ipl/spl 1.01 or in another thread it gives ipl/spl 1.05
*) A G4 rom can or cannot be flashed on a CID/SIM locked G3 vario

I hope you can clarify these issues, I have read a lot myself but not all advice on all threads are the same.

i don't know if there is anyone with the definitive answers but if there is maybe this info could be posted on the wiki or stickied in this thread, or am I the only one who finds all the diverse information somewhat confusing.

As far as I know, if your MDA Vario comes with the following:
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21.0001
then people call it G3/G4. Again, AFAIK, it cannot be CID-unlocked. You can get nice information on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043. Basically, using some tools and an existing ROM, you "cook" the ROM to cut off the IPL/SPL part, so that though it's not CID-unlocked, you still can flash the ROM to a (usually) newer ROM.

thanks for your reply, however it is only a G4 rom when your vario is like 2.21.0001, I know already that this cannot be downgraded. I have a G3 vario (2.21 without .0001) so according to the posts it should be able to be downgraded and then CID unlocked. I have just seen a lot of different opinions about the G3 downgrade process (craptree, faria, mr puttingham, etc. all have different suggestions).

stefanNot I and Faria... I use his procedure constantly. Actually when I'm testing a ROM with a different IPL or SPL I downgrade to the 1.05, re-unlock CID and SIM (just for fun as it takes no time) and then downgrade one MORE time to get the SPL down. Just did 3 Cingular G3's yesterday and will do 2 today....
