Is anyone else using this free provided DNS Server. They claim that it tremendously speeds up GPRS connections in Windows Mobile. I have been using it for a while, but havent noticed such an improvement.
If I had the time, I would love to see some comparison speed tests with this Open DNS VS. Cingular GPRS.
Anybody have any other GPRS tweaks?

Brad:
When I use the default settings on my 8125 I get incredibly lousy EDGE speed on the device. I had been using my DSL ISP's DNS info and was able to get at least decent speed. The Open DNS seems just a bit faster than that...but still regularly under 100K.
BTW I'm in the Chicago area with an 8125 running ShogunMark's Cingular 2.26 Aku2.3 w/a2dp BETA, with the 02.47.11 Radio ROM.

I've been using OpenDNS servers on my 8125 for around 6 months now I'd say.
I do it out of necessity because Cingular crippled their DNS servers and lookups take over a minute, which makes browsing painfully slow.
I've never had a single problem with the OpenDNS servers and the lookups are completed with in seconds!

Try 194.109.6.66 and 194.109.9.99
These are DNS Servers from XS4ALL in the Netherlands, they are always great on my connection(s).

Note that this does NOT help with throughput. If you downloaded a file at 75k/s before, you'll download the same file at 75 k/s after. The difference is that you'll be able to find it a few milliseconds faster. Maybe.

check out www.whatsmydns.com for a list of DNS servers... you can add ones that are not in there that you may have
oh and changing the dns wont help with the speeds, just the initial responsiveness of the page loading. vodafone in the uk seems to take an age to look up the dns. changing it to something else makes a world of difference.!
