Just got a Vario II yesterday.

Whenever I try to install any software (by tapping on .CAB files which I have copied to the device), I get "This software is from an unknown publisher ... Do you want to continue?" I answer "Yes", but immediately get "Installation of <software> was unsuccessful."

It's all software (Batti, PocketBreeze, DockWare, RegEdit, etc) which works fine on my XDA Exec (HTC Universal).

Any ideas?

This won't help you much but pocket breeze for example definately does go onto hermes. Sleuth has a patch that can tweak registry to remove the Unknown Publisher warning (might only work on cingular network - not sure). Doubt anyway that that would solve problem.

At least your thread is temporarily at least back to the top!

philip, search for application unlocking, i guess this is the problem you're having. Can you tell your rom version?

philip, search for application unlocking, i guess this is the problem you're having. Can you tell your rom version? Thanks for the suggestions - I read the thread about Application Unlocking, but it seemed an unnecessarily complex procedure to have to go through (I'm used to WM5, and have had a XDA2, XDA IIi and XDA Exec, so I'm fairly well experienced in loading software to HTC devices).

My ROM version is 1.21.110.3 dated 06/19/06.

For what it's worth, doing a Hard Reset seems to have solved the problem and I can now install software. Hmmm.

Now I'm off to do another Hard Reset followed by an immediate Soft Reset to get rid of the T-Mobile stuff.
