If you keep GPRS on whilst connecting using WiFi then it will swap to using GPRS if signal drops on wifi connection. This can be expensive if you don't realise it's happened.
I always use the connection manager button beside on/off switch to disconnect GPRS when I'm using WiFi.

But won't that disalble the radio and as a result won't be able to receive calls?

No it won't disable phone. If you use button below on/of button you'll see the phone soft button is seperate from the GPRS connection button that looks like a PDA with two arrows beside it.
So first use this to disconnect GPRS (Phone will still be operational) then go to connections and enable wifi (or do it from tool bar at top of screen).

I always turn my phone off when I am Wi-Fi web browsing as if it swaps over to GPRS or 3G you can have a VERY big bill.
