Probably not much point as you say. I'm going to try it just to see all the options it has. If it's good it stays, if not bye bye!!

A very lightweight version instead of having to have something better, which is good.

I wish they'd integrate it with the ok/close buttons on the device though to make one handed use easier. By that I mean, press button = ok, hold button = close.

If you are looking for a small battery monitoring program try to find the program named "batti". It's really small and work good.

I found that, unlike other similar software, it closes ActiveSync, and handles not responding apps just like on BB: shows a message that the app does not respond and offers to kill it.

Hi, I have a Jasjam and so far have installed 7 programs from handango w/ no problems at all.

They are all .exe files but not sure what to do with this .cab file for the X button. How do I do this? Thanks for any help.

rassah

.CAB files are PocketPC OS installation files. Copy them to your TyTN, and execute them from within your TyTN's File Explorer. It will install the software without having to go through ActiveSync. Very convenient when you want to download and install software on the go.

Thanks Rassah, copied it to my Documents, activated it, says successful, but doesn"t do what it claims it can do. Maybe because of the Jasjam ROM?

That's some serious security issue! Maybe you can contact Pocket Quicken developer on that.

Unfortunately for me the HTC app doesn't allow for exceptions and this cause a problem with text messaging. If I send a TXT message and hit the X it will close down the app before it sends the txt and when it loads back up it will send the message as well as a duplicate, I assume cause cingular's systems sent at timeout from when the SMS program started sending the message and got interrupted before it was able to complete.

InClose Button, a free program from handango.com works better that this. HTC x-button has bugs that need to be fixed.

Funny how everyone has their own method for closing apps. Here's what I came up a long time ago on my Wizard and works well...

Enable the close button option in SPB Pocket Plus so tapping the X will close an app (I exclude mail app). The program also creates a shortcut that can be assigned to a hardware button that will close the current app. I assign this to the PTT button which makes one handed operations much easier and is certainly better than tapping the corner of the screen.

Equally beneficial to managing apps is another shortcut for switching tasks that I assign to the camera button. This is equivalent to alt-tab on a PC and even shows a little window that allows you to toggle any open app.

I use DinarSoft HandySwitcher I have it set to the VoiceComm button and have it set to minimize on tapping X and close apps when I tap and hold X. Worked great on my Magician, Wizard, Exec, hp iPAQ rw6828, and now works great on my TyTN :p it has exceptions list and doesn't mess with the phone application and by mapping it to a hardware button I can easily switch or close apps/tasks without tapping the screen even.

I tried this version and could find no bugs as reported, on my Jasjam.

I usually like very small progs and ones written by OEMs but I must say that this one is a little underdone. Needs some visual feedback for tap and hold, at the least.

Have to admit inClose is a very good prog. Think I will go back to it.

I've installed HTC X-button 1.1 on my O2 Orbit (Artemis) and found that it caused screen black-out whenever it goes to stand-by mode and would not turn on unless I soft-reset the device.

This little darling of an app came with my HTC TyTN and have been using it in both WM5 and WM6.

Since I am a big surfer, I try to keep my MagicButton or apps like that to a minimum as I prefer to conserve the battery life on only needed apps.

This things is tiny on resources.

I think this app would be even better if the following were possible:

1. Today screen 'X' can be launched from a key press. A shortcut would do which can be assigned in 'Buttons'.
2. The Task list shown could be scrolled through with the thumb wheel. This would allow selecting an app - alt-tab / task manager style.

If the above were possible then it could be used for switching programs with one hand and also closing them.

Comments?

Gavin

Can the developers add these features:
1. Enable the OK button below the scroll wheel and above the Hang Up button to close the active application completely.
2. Add in the drop down menu the ability to restart the PDA and to shut down the PDA
3. Assign a hardware button to switch on and off Bluetooth
4. Assign a hardware button to switch on and off vibrate
Thanks :)

This Programm is included in the BlackDiamond Rom (Ver. 1.1). I really love this rom, but it has a problem I can't understand.
So, I'm one of that guys that always lose their stylus, so i have to touch with the finger.
But now with this ROM, i have to press the x button ver very exact to let it react, no way to do this with my finger.
Has anyone here the same problem, or a solution??

Thanks

I must say, 1.5 is much better than the earlier version, and it is much more stable.

Kudos to whoever put this together.

As for the above suggestion for a hardware button to turn off bluetooth, I can think of nothing more lame than hitting a button like that by mistake while on a phone call with a bluetooth headset. Don't make a button like this. :o

Hi,

after upgrading my HTC TyTN from WM5 to WM6 I found the X-Button Application more or less included in WM6. But without a register page for "Exclusive Programs".

So I installed V 1.5.0 which has at least the additional page for "Exclusive programs". But I wasn't able to add a program to the lis.

So I installed V 1.5.1 (Build 2....) Also no go on exclusive programs

So I installed V 1.5.1 (Build 30470). But I'm still not able to add a program to the list of exclusive programs.

When I mark the program and hold the stylus on it, I can see 3 quarters of the circle showing up, then it vanishes. No context menu available.

?

Any Hint greatly appreciated,
Martin Knauer

Program has to be active and then on the first tab, just tap on it and you will have the exclude option.

Good luck (it is just a trick to understand and I discovered it after several tries).

Thanks for the answer,

Yes, that's what I was used to do. mark the program on the first tab, the tap and hold the stylus on it and in the context menu select someting like "add exclusive".

Alas, when I tap and hold the stylus on the program I can see the circle appear, but it vanished without the context menu showing up.

Any ideas why?

Another idea:
I guess the resulting list of exclusive programs is stored somewhere (i.e. registry) ...
Was anyone able to find this list? Could he send me an example of the storage location (and format)? Maybe I can add it "manually"...

Thanks In Advance,
Martin

FYI, I observed the same behavior with running v.1.5 & v.2.0 on WM6 (4PDA ROM) hx2755.
The X-Button does not show or does not close the application.
v.2.0 worked fine while under WM5 (Standard HP ROM).
