contacted imeicheck-people about wrong model ID flashing htc rom.
here their answers:
Hello,
you are wrong. For sure you try to flash a NOT compatible firmware.
It sounds like you try to flash HTC Artemis firmware on a HTC Hero or vice versa.
The HTC Artemis has different chipset inside (it has additional WiFi chipset) than the HTC Hero. (In case you just try to enable WiFi on a Hero... the WiFi chipset is missing, no firmware/software can replace a missing chipset + antenna)!
>From outside both devices look same but inside they have different hardware.
Flashing a ROM from another device most likely will cause serious damage to it.

and just a second later
Hello,
up to now only T-Mobile sells the HTC Hero (the version without WiFi).
Nevertheless you have the following options:
- flash any HTC Hero version you like (T-Mob-UK-English, T-Mob-GER-German, T-Mob...)
- to skip installing the "nice" T-Mobile branding immediately skip the installation of Extended ROM (a message comes up: "Please wait, device will configure in 3 seconds") after hard reset by sticking in "Reset".
We opened HERO device and it is missing the WiFi chipset. So we gave up to try to flash HTC Artemis ROM since there is no real reason to risk a device.

It this possible? "missing the WiFi chipset"?????
If chip is BlueLink 6.0 Platform: BRF6350(Bluetooth®,FM,WLAN) herehttp://focus.ti.com/general/docs/wtbu/wtbuproductcontent.tsp?templateId=6123&navigationId=12659&contentId=14646
then it is one chip!!!
Maybe WLAN Antena is not inserted?
Or it is another chip?

Lets wait some more - there must be a good reason for the Dutch MDA with WLAN ... not sure if that unlocking-company is correct ...

any dutch owners around?
whats your device id?
HTC = arte100
T-Mobile = arte110
O2 = arte200
if its not arte110, chance are 0 to succeed with flashing

I have a dutch Artemis with vendor id ARTE110. tmobile mda3.
Imei check is wrong... It has WiFi capabilities and in the dutch rom it's activated. It's the same device inside.. just another ID. I also unlocked the device with their services (imei-check) and it's not flashable with the ARTE100 rom..
Rom version: 1.13.114.1 NLD

BlueLink 6.0 Platform: BRF6350 ...
... Or it is another chip?
Althought I beleive the "guts" of the HTC Artemis are based on the TCS3500 chipset from TI, the Bluelink chip is not used. The technical specification (page 201 of the HTC Artemis user guide) says that the FM radio is served by Silicon Lab's Si47001 chip.

It seems tmobile requested a different ARTE code this to prevent us from installing other ROM'S. The dutch code is ARTE110 as wel (I own one) but it has all the capabilities of the ARTE100, adding one and one this device is the same as the arte100. THis would mean if we can rewrite the software for the rom upgrades to take All ARTEXXX codes we will be able to excange roms. Its just a number.
I think t-mobile did this to stop us unbranding our devices the easy way: loading HTC / Qtek Roms thereby increasing the second hand value.
Its probably merely time that keeps us away from loading roms from different vendors.

... well,
in oder to prove this wrong or wright, we simply need to get our hands on a dutch rom (-upgrade). all of us having cid-unlocked our gadgets should be able to install this then and we should have wlan--- or not!

i am sorry to say, but all this seems rather pointless.
i managed to install:
ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates/ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe
which, afa we know, is complete with all wifi stuff, and it doesnt supply me with wifi on my hero(no wlan chip).

I already expected this. Ok, one more proof. I think we can now be quite sure that wifi is definitely not in there...

Good day,
While scrolling through my files, found the following link in \windows\startup
WiFiInit.lnk which points to WiFiInit.exe in \windows\
(see attached;) )
This might startup the whole wifi stuff at boot......
Please let me know if anything changed in the situation

Hi,
To thormdac are you try to install rom from htc p3300 ftp://xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates/ART_HTCWWE_11240501_026790_WWE_Ship.exe
Because rom ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Artemis/Shipped_Complete_Updates/ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe is with disable wifi
I'm sure that mda compact III have wifi - we need to install rom from ARTE100 OR ARTE200 not from ARTE110.:)
Look this http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Artemis_Versions

Daros, stop wasting your time on this one, if you need or want WiFi then go and purchase the HTC P3300 Artemis or XDA- Orbit which do have the required hardware. The T-Mobile unit does not have the required hardware so flash it with any ROM you like it isn't going to work - Mike

I think that just lack that antenna and could function WiFi..

I tried several ROMs, including HTC Factory ROMs and other ones, that also supported WiFi on WiFi enabled Devices, and believe me, never was there a WiFi Hardware found in my german MDA Compact III. If there was just the antenna missing, you would get a WiFi Hardware with propper Software Support but no Signal. That is not the case so you should just let go ;)
