"They" said it's not possible because the hw6515 has no much memory for wm5... I've a Motorola mpx200 with WM5, a phone with a ridicolous amount of memory. The problem is $$$ because HP wants to sell their "new" devices with WM5.

I searched and can not find a ROM for the iPAQ 6515 series tha will flash it to Windows Mobile 5.0.
Have you actually tried this? What's the full link that you found this on?

WM5 for hw6515 doesn't exist, neither officially on HP site, neither unofficially on forums. The problem is that HP wants to sell newer models and no one who owns the iPAQ 6515 has the technical competencies to supply a modified ROM for our device (it can be done modifing the ROM of another device such as the hw6915).
I own also a Motorola mpx200 (an old 2003 phone with ridicolous hardware specification compared to other modern WM5 phones!) with Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone edition, the ROM was supplied by an expert user. But the Motorola mpx220 (the successor of mpx200) doesn't have WM5 because no one "made" it.
I searched and can not find a ROM for the iPAQ 6515 series tha will flash it to Windows Mobile 5.0.
Have you actually tried this? What's the full link that you found this on?

thanks for the replys, upgraded ok, but 1 final Q, to backup/sms contacts etc it requires outlook2002 which needs some outlook express (not compatable) install with IE5 - I have IE6 (not used) but cant be uninstalled and IE5 refuses to go on because it says its already later SW installed. Damn MS cant even get there own sh!t to work together.
Is all later versions of outlook and activesyc compatable with this pda/phone?

what will it take to create WM5/6 update for this phone? Can't someone take the ROM for the HW69xx and modify it for the 6515? I am looking to upgrade the phone simply because of the lack of WM5 and it seems like such a waste.

theres nothing wrong with the spec of 65XX series there is an official wm5 rom for the 63XX series. hp just wants people to trade in the 65XX and get the new 69XX series. so ya someone needs to just dump the rom and modify it for use with the 65XX series.. only question is who not many ipaq users...

Hey,
Has anyone tried modding 6915 or other "compatible" WM5 ROMs to support 6515?
I am very eager to know.
Thanks,

I know this treahd is old, but I really need to put this some way anybody in the world would finally get it : devices from companies like hp, o2, t-mobile, etc will never get updates like wm5 on a wm2003 device, or wm6 on a wm5 device. that will never happend, first because of the windows licensing issue, and second because of the hardware limitations.
please search it via google and see, that the devices that came win wm2003 and supported a wm5 upgrade, are running awfull, or give some errors.. A mobile device is not like a computer, but still we can compare it : if u have a old celeron processor with 512 mb ram, and run xp quite well, ...then vista comes along; what would u do normally ? - of course install vista, ...and realise that everything is almost the same, but just better graphics, and more slow speed - nothing else more... ; you end up putting xp on it.
pda lovers - just go and buy a new device, with the new ver of wm-x that u want, and stop asking for crazy updates like wm 6.1 on a 6-7 year old device.
I don't want to be cruel, but I am asking myself sometimes, reading posts like this, if ppl who ask these questions even try to give a crap about their device actually, or just come and post #$%^ for no reason. Please, use google, and read before you ask; this way you don't need to wait for an answer that is not coming
have a nice dat ;)

He has a Blue Angel and the rom's for updating are in the Blue Angel product section. This phone does not have any such rom. I do believe some people upgraded to WM5 when it first can out. It was available though HP at that time but not any more.
The only chance for getting a modern OS is getting the HARET bootloader to load linux for this platform. Then you may be able to load/port Android which this device should be able to handle some what. Android is normally clocked down to 380mhz on ARM CPU's and I think this device has a 312mhz.

There never was an update, HP had them for non phone pda's but never for any 6000 series phones. The only hope this phone has is android and even that will be so so as we don't have a cpu with gpu features like most modern phones. As well the low 240x240 res would hamper android a lot and as well any gui from wm6.1/6.5 would have to be all custom. This phone has served me well but its feature set is at a brick wall. I'm even just about at that point with my Kaiser and looking at a new touchpro2. Oh and to add this is my 2rd HP PDA phone and my last, I should have learned my lesson with my 6315. IPAQ was once an industry leader to the point people called wince pdas IPAQ's just like people say a coke even if they mean just cola. It's nice to see everything HP got from Compaq has turned to second tir dirt. Everything from Alpha, to ipaq and even Compaq laptops.
