View Full Version : Abacus Bluetooth Watch AU6001 and Alpine

Sorry to report that the Abacus (aka Fossil FX6001) does NOT work with the Alpine (in my case the Imate PDA2).

When you enter pairing mode with the Alpine and watch, the Alpine sees the watch (calls it "Caller ID Watch"), but unfortunately, there are no services available that the PDA can use. So, while the PDA sees it, it will not connect. I tried all profiles (high quality audio, handset/headset, etc)... none work. I even tried "exploring bluetooth services", and it shows that the Caller ID Watch has no supported services.

My buddy who has an Audiovox 5600 didn't get much further. While in his case the phone saw the watch, and even prompted for a passcode, it didn't get beyond that. The phone said it could not establish a connection.

So, save your $199 for now... it doesn't work with the Alpine, and I'm assuming other HTC devices as well...

<sigh>... good idea, just not enough widespread support.

-Kevin.

ok so i got a response back from Abacus and this is what they said..

Hello,

For the moment, only Sony Ericsson phones are supported. This is due to the lack of a Bluetooth Profile standard for watches. Sony Ericsson is our launch partner (we make a Sony Ericsson branded watch as well - the MBW100), and we are fully tested and supported with most of their phones. Our first intent was to make the compatibility list as wide as possible, but we found that there is just way too much diversity between phone models today. We decided to really target a subset of devices that we had very intimate knowledge of (SE phones). The watch uses GSM standard AT commands to communicate with the phones, but in our testing experience, there is almost no phone company in the world besides Sony Ericsson that actually follows the documented standard.

The watch does use the Bluetooth Serial Port Profile (SPP), but it does not expose any services because it is designed not to accept any connection requests from outside devices. Instead, the watch initiates the SPP connection to whatever device the watch is paired to. You might notice on your Windows Mobile device that the watch attempts to connect to the phone after it's been paired. The problem is that the windows phone will not have any software logic to handle the watch's communication attempts.

If you know of any windows mobile developers willing to write software, I believe it would be possible to get the watch working with add-on software. If you know a software publisher you have bought software from, send a email to them requesting them to create a software product to make the windows phone compatible with the Bluetooth watches.

I am willing to fund someone writing an app to make my Abacus watch work with my Dash.

How were you able to reach mobiwear? I can't find an email for them... i am willing to write an windows mobile application for the watch (i just ordered one and expect it soon) I have an htc apache (xv6700) and i want it to work with my phone as well but i will need information from manufacturer in order to write an application for this.

Sorry guys, but i'm in the same boat as you. I'm still waiting on the tech from abacus to get back to me. I too am waiting to use my watch. I promise i'll post as soon as i hear anything more (FYI last i heard the abacus guy is checking with fossil's legal guys to make sure he can release info to me).

Hey Guys!

I'm also interested in the Abacus Bluetooth watch and in addition in a contact address from an Abacus tech-employee. But what I`d like to do is, sending error-messages from an application on a w3k server to the bluetooth watch.

I want to explain you my current idea to realize this:

- sniffing the communication between an SE cellphone and an abacus watch (I never did it but I think it should work with this Bluetooth scanner (http://darkircop.org/security/). Or just ask a guy from Abacus for connection details ;)
- imidiate the connection in a w3k application
- sending in place of name and number form the caller an error-message (yes I know there a limited numbers of letters, but it should be enough in my case)

Do you think that this plan could work? Has anybody here experience with things like that (sniffing bt-connection, programming applications for an Abacus watch)?

A relative of mine works at Fossil. I received this watch a while back but never got it to sync up with my Wizard (I now have a tilt) for the exact reasons you guys are posting. To make a long story short I have a contact # with someone directly at Fossil that I'll be calling on Monday (he's out until then) to see if I can maybe get some help if people are still interested.

Peace

sure we are interested !!! :)))

did you talk with him yesterday?
does he have a turnaround?

i may have an idea but have to test it before, it is about the Broadcomm Bluetooth Stack, witch is much more powerful and functions rich than the Microsoft one.

i got it last week but have to test it.
I'll let you know guys.

If any news from your side, keep posting :)

see ya

Woo.. I was just an inch from ordering one for my Kaiser... but I guess I'll wait a while until you geniuses figure this out.

But.. if this help, I found the bluetooth certification details for the SE-watches:
https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/QLI_viewQDL.cfm?qid=12024

...and for the fossil-branded one:
https://www.bluetooth.org/qualweb/ProductDetails.cfm?ProductID=3876

(and for the kaiser, just for comparison) https://www.bluetooth.org/tpg/QLI_viewQDL.cfm?qid=13095

Please post any of your findings, I would love to give this a try as well, but 300$ is hefty for a product that might not work... but if there is a glance of hope, I might just.

Best of luck..

So I know this isnt the abacus, but i bought a bluetooth watch for my father in law. When it arrived i decided to test it out on my Sprint Touch (windows mobile 6). It worked, it vibrated and displayed the caller ID. At this time this is all I have tested as it is not my watch. If you are interested here is the link, i intend to buy one for myself if the abacus wont work.

I just wanted to touch base with you all and let you know I have not forgotten about this project.

In the time since my last post I have taught myself the C# programming language as it pertains to Windows Mobile. I am currently using Visual Studio 2005 and the Windows Mobile 6 SDK (by the way, I upgraded to a PPC-6800!) to develop an application to interface with the watch. The application is still in development, but it is definitely working.

Currently the application does the following:
1: Discovers Bluetooth Devices (already paired or in a pairing state)
2: After selecting your device it pairs with it if necessary (currently only devices with pin=”0000”)
3: It then listens for connection attempts (pressing upper right button on watch)
4: It then sends the proper responses to all AT Commands from the watch (currently specific to MBW-100)
5: It then sets the current time and date on the watch
6: At this point it begins monitoring for incoming calls
7: When an incoming call is detected the watch will vibrate every 6 seconds and display the phone number and pull the name from your contacts
8: When the call is ignored, answered or canceled by the caller the watch returns to a dormant state
9: The app can also send SMS notifications to the watch, causing it to vibrate and display an envelope

Currently the application does not do the following:
1: Detect incoming SMS (currently you can test feature with an onscreen button)
2: Properly handle the commands from the watch to silence ringer and ignore call (I haven’t had time – watch & app will lock up if you try)
3: Reconnect to the watch if it has gone out of range (app will lock up if you try)
4: Properly handle the commands from the watch to control music (I haven't had time)

Again, being that I upgraded my phone, I wrote this application for WM6, but it should work for WM5. I will be posting a version for you to test as soon as I remove some of the debugging code and add a few prompts.

puck404: Even though I have already come up with a solution, I would very much like to see the registry settings from your watch. They may not help, as the MBW-100 does not use an SDP record, but I would still like to give it a try.

Anyway, keep your eye on the forum - I will be posting the application very soon.
