btw, i just finished reinstalling all my applications on Helmi's AKU3.3, can I upgrade to AKU3.5 and restore the apps, data, etc. from my backup based on AKU3.3? it just takes so much time to reinstall all apps from the scratch

After flash it on mu Unversal I start to test that I care about:

1. Speed is more than this one AKU3.3
2. Avaliable memory after flashing 30MB (this is with SD card inserted)
3. No memory leaks for now even when my Garmin Mobile XT working

-Can't change the start page of IE, returns back to default page everytime.
-Also I like your Crossbow dialer skin, why you didn't included it?

AKU3.3 was a great ROM - no real problems.

I am looking forward to trying this one but I got the country code error.
Please can someone help - I ran the program (in the country code error folder) but not alot happened???

Up until today I had no problem installing AKU3.3 but now I can't ever re-install this one.

I am sure that this have been covered before but I would really appreciate some help.

The resco you are using is OLD one, I have the same issue before then I upgraded to the latest version...

I think with regards to Radio 1.14XX, Helmi helped to expedite the release of it...

I found that the commmanager wont shut down properly. When you hit the [X] to close is using the taskmanager, it takes a long time for it to exit. The rest of the system is hanging at this time so you have to sit it out. It wont crash your uni, but it is annoying.

Maybe hiding the commmanager from the taskmanager?

You can use the Ext ROM to store and run apps, just like an SD Card.

If your question was: is there a program or solution to merge this wasted space to the internal memory? Then the answer is NO. (For now).

Other fault noticed was the 'Country Code' error when trying to load the ROM, I moved the NK file into the Folder for this and loaded with that bootloader. The reason I mention this is can this be the cos of problem with Voice Command - Country Code ?

You can upgrade v1.5 to 1.6 for about 10 EUR at Handango.

What is this empty extended rom mb.nbf file ?
If I use that one, what will change on my device, because on the 3.3 aku there wasn't a ms.nbf.

most of All extra app that I put in rom is not memory resident, beside VJBigPhone, HTC X (only if u activate TaskManager), WM5 Storage (only if u activate it) and BHCS CSR Bluetooth AddOn (this one quite big). other then thoose, they didn't eat up much program memory.

but maybe I'll built a really standar version.

btw currently I used standart version with BroadComm 1.7.2.9000 BT stack for my personal testing on my exec.

Flashed from 3.3 Aku helmi to 3.5 Aku

Noticed changes:

-Selecting a theme now actually works
-Can't delete themes however, besides the windows default (which you can't delete ofcourse) there's a VistaB1 and guava bubbles and crossbow. The Delete button is there but when you try it it says can't delete file from ROM
(the .tsk files are in the \Windows folder however)
-System > backlight, on the Battery Power tab the second option text is hard to read (second line is almost fully covered in landscape mode)

Memory is a bit low, it was around 27 mb free when it was first started. Now it's around 14 - 20 mb. Seem to lose memory after a while :(

I say you wait another 5 minutes. If it does not proceed, disconnect your device and perform a hard reset and clear all memory by pressing 0. After performing a hard reset the device will automatically bring you back to bootloader mode where you will have to retry to flash the ROM. This time it should work. If it does not work over and over again try redownloading the ROM, maybe there are some CRC check errors. Or try another ROM.

Did anyone try VoiceDial using the BT headset? Also TomTom's speed seems to have increased a lot more after this ROM managed to free up a lot of memory for virtual cache.

I have the same problem. I am able to run my customized Ext ROM only on the first hard reset. It seemed that some of the CAB files were transfered rather than copied.

My CABS were executed from my SD Card every Hard Reset. Just Define in the Config.txt that your cabs are in SD Card (i.e, CAB: \Storage Card\My Cabs\Default_A_Cert_Remove.cab). Make sure that sd card is inserted during the HR.
My Extended ROM is for the other stuff (i.e., location of .tsk), I also installed my SPB Weather, Resco Explorer etc. in Extended ROM.

As of now AKU3.5 is the Best Release in the net.!

Thanks very much for this suggestion. I'll try it as soon as I get back from the gym. I prefer to use the Ext ROM for this though. Although your technique also has some advantages, as the needed apps are left on the device even if you take the SD card OFF. But I will soon have a 4GB, so it does not matter where I put the Ext ROM files. Thanks again, I'll let you know if it works.

Works on mine.

Check your settings. There should only be one app assigned to each button. It works on mine.

The way you described these, sounds like a problem with the app and not the ROM. You have to remember, those apps are meant to run on a different ROM.

Because if I get it right, you want the option of installing what you want, but this would hurt you instead because the more you install manually, the more you will eat up the memory. Please correct me if I am wrong, but this is how I understood the memory management.

Here some errors of mine :

starting : The file 'sddaemon' cannot be opened. Either is not signed with a trusted.......

yeah, you can securely remove it, it is a "Smart Dialer loader", with a functionality limited to quick load SmartDialer at start it to be faster when use, the same action you do with first time you use it.
if you want it, just remove the shortcut and add another one (you can find the application in \Windows), or you can open the shortcut as a text file (by notepad) and check the path of the application is writen correctly

What difference are we talking about? I used the AKU3.5 ROM in combination with the "empty extended rom" and find that what little there is in the extra's folder is not neccesarily cumbersome, and the only thing that really comes in sight is the VJBigPhone app ...

PS Helmi, this ROM rocks! My only question would be whether you could take out the PU10 info version and date that appears in the boorscreen :-)

Unfortunately the smart dial is missing so much but I hope you can manage to make a compatible one... meanwhile I am using PhonePlus which works perfect but the skin is a bit childish:D ... waiting for your solution which uses CB dialskin.

I highly recommend people with Universal to use this ROM.

This is the best with speed and memory. I can always have about 20M after installing lots and lots of software.

One minor effect is .... if you leave some programs running and power off, when you power it on again, the program may terminate itself....

That's all I experienced and everything else is ok (I don't use smart dialling...)

I used my Destinator 6 and it is excelent with 16 mb of memory + running SPB Weather + Egress + Picture Dial + Wifi (I forgot to switch it off) + Connected Windows Live + Wisbar.... wheeew what else can I ask....

I hope Fingerclix works on your device perfectly... I tried a (maybe an earlier) version and it killed 16(!)MB of RAM and worked very slow... screen changes were like the curtain in the theatre :mad:
I mentioned that Phoneplus is the other solution (not perfect... it works only in portrait mode but of course portrait is the default mode for me in the car, where smart dial is important.)

I highly recommend people with Universal to use this ROM.

This is the best with speed and memory. I can always have about 20M after installing lots and lots of software.

One minor effect is .... if you leave some programs running and power off, when you power it on again, the program may terminate itself....

That's all I experienced and everything else is ok (I don't use smart dialling...)

Indeed I have 25mb free always. I have SPB/Tomtom/Windows media player running and it wont drop below 20mb. Its really fast. Tomtom responds quickly and there is minimized pixel distortation in videos.
The minor problem you experience is intentional and is not a flaw in the ROM.

I have no such problem with fingerclix. The only downside is that the skin is, lets say, not very pretty. It does get the job done however, both in landscape and portrait modes. You do need version 2, as 1 does not work on WM5
You're right... fingerclix works in both mode... skin is not very sophisticated, but.... I got Fingerclix 2.1 !!! and i did not succeed make it working.
No problem, I am happy now with Phoneplus as long as helmi makes the smartdial ready... I hope it is possible ;)

first of all thanks for the nice ROM and the efforts to release it.
I have some problems with the restore of my Contacts and the Calendar from the German Vodafone ROM.
I guess there´s a problem in the mixture of German and English - i cannot open Contacts (it opens for less than 1 sec) and if i enter the Calendar and tap f.e. on Friday the 16th i get a error message "An unexpected error has occurred in this program." and that's it, it's absolutely useless for me :(

Does anyone have an idea how to get it run?
I´m now thinking of upgrading to a UK Vodafone ROM, restore my stuff (and look if it works here), backup and upgrade to the Helmi ROM again.
Has anyone some experience here?

Great rom must say it works great for me ! Only have one problem, i loose my wifi connection after soft resets. Sometimes it does come back and sometimes it doesnt. Also when it is available, it does switch on at all. Any ideas on how this can be fixed ?

I installed it on my friends's jasjar, it is a very good ROM, but not worthy enough to the extend that I bear all of the hassles of installing my all progrmas agin that works very smooth with Helmi's AKU3.3 1.2 version.

Well, i guess there's no way to restore the Contacts and the Calendar.
I always get the attached message in Sprite if i try to restore it.
What i did:

German Vodafone ROM => Backup => Flashed with English Vodafone ROM => Restore => OK! => Flashed with Helmi ROM => Restored Backup => Contacts does not open and Calendar brings a error message :(

From time to time, i also get the strange arrangement of the dial keys, also seen on the attached screenshot.
Also, if you enter Buttons and try to close it you'll get a message "Each program button must have a unique button assignment. Please select a different button assignment."
As i see, Button 4 is assigned 2 times (Record) so i guess that's the reason for it.

Damn, what i found out now is that if someone calls me he just gets a free signal but it does not ring on my phone. (This worked already BEFORE the restore of Sprite)
I guess i have to wait with the restore of my backup :(

I don´t want to criticize, i just want to help :)

After testing the rom I found the following to be quite a problem;
THIS IS ON MY UNIVERSAL...(Qtek 9000)

- GPRS is not working as stable as in AKU 3.3 v1.2 (radio 1.14.10)
- Internet sharing is not working
- Added accounts (Gmail) disappears and reappears after softreset.
- Wifi and Bleutooth freezes when you use them both...
and......
- Girlfriend complanes because I'm constandly plaing with ROM(s)...

Well that's it for now, I've swiched back to 3.3 and will patiently wait for another..

And the screenshots posted by 'Van' are not correct, at least not according to me, there was no photo viewer and screencapure (as shown) in my programs menu.

The same problem as it was with AKU3.3 ROM. When the system asks me to enter PIN the screen looks strange. At the first moment everything is OK and in half a second buttons 1,4,7 move right and take place almost over buttons 3,6,9. Buttons 2,5,8 move right halfway and take place in between. Sorry I can't make a screenshot at this moment.
I've removed VJBigphoneRes from startup and everything is OK.

Anyway I appreciate Helmi's efforts to make the very nice ROM for us. Thanks for your great job!

I've had a few hangs yesterday evening. Most of the time i'm playing with the live messenger and tcpmp.

Also I see that everyone has around 20-24 mb of memory free. After a reset I have around 21 mb free
After some usage it's around 14-15 mb if I close all apps.
With hibernate or close apps program I get up to about 17-18 mb

Also I tried playing a divx clip (Pussycatdolls) yesterday evening and I can't get it to play smoothly with the same settings it used 2.
If I benchmark I get around 80 - 90%. This used to be 105% on the same conditions. I think I used v1.2 aku 3.3 at that time.
Tried using xcpuscalar to lock the speed at 520 but that didn't help. Also connecting it to the charger didn't make any difference.

Heres my experience. I play DVD's which i copy to my 8GB SD card and they work fine using TCPMP. Now DVD's are 4.7GB and they are much harder to play on the Universal thaan the pussycat dolls video you were watching. If your pussycat dolls video does not go good on your Universal I cant expect much out of a DVD.
There is barely any pixel distortation. The pocket pc slows down a lot ofcourse but the movie runs stable. I tried playing .avi xvid files which are 200MB each and they also worked fine in TCPMP. Starting I have 23-25MB free and when TCPMP is running i have 10-15MB free. I always run my pocket pc on full strenght 520mhz with maximum performance. Using a larger capacity battery also helps a lot. When i use 1700mAh the video starts to flicker and very less frames/sec and with 3200mAh there are no such problems experienced. You will notice this problem in the camera app too.

I think I downloaded V1.01 from this forum or buzz lightyear's site. The advantage is that I have never had any issues (touch wood) upgrading to any ROMs. (And I have tried all of them in this forum).

I solved it when I disabled VJbigphone from loading at the startup folder (Since I don't use native VGA mode)...

This ROM is fantastic. I love the new theme and sounds and speed, but most of all I love how VGA mode is practically a native feature now! So much easier than messing around with system files after every upgrade.

Edit: Bug to report: When I change the ring tone to anything but RoaringGuitar it accepts the setting but then reverts to the default. I did find a way around it by browsing to the tone I wanted in File Explorer and selecting "Set as Ringtone", then it sticks. Still weird though.

Installed on my Qtek 9000.. been experiencing freeze on my phone application. I always end up resetting my phone 4-5 times. I missed some calls eventhough I have full bar signal strengh (phone doesn't ring). Phone will lock up sometimes when searching for a signal when I hit the settings option. I did not restore contacts or anything else. I restore the contact list and programs manually. I like the concept, great work Helmi. I can't wait for the next version that will clear this problems. For now, i'll stick with the old version (Qtek 9000 official AKU 2) and my T-mobile Dash!

But if you close it open it again and go to the band quickly you can change them and press ok.

I have resolved my MMS problem, for some reason all the settings had got changed to a differant IP address and Http site.

After these teething problems I can say I have ran this for a week now and no problem with the phone or anything else.

you can use the IMAGINET Arabization B343 ... it works with AKU3.x roms but don't put it in the Extended Rom ... install it manually after finishing the initial setup ... good luck :)

This is not a bug.

To change the Band setting, ensure that your GPRS connection is disconnected. You will be able to change. If you connection is on then the phone system does not allow you to change this settings.

The Contacts is in PIM.VOL. If you read the forum, it did say that the PIM structure from AKU2.x to AKU3.x is different.

The best way is to sync with your outlook and sync it back.

I am having difficulty in installing this. This is what I do:

1. Execute CD_Dialler.CAB from my Storage Card
2. Install it on my device.

It says that it has been installed successfully, but when I activate the phone, I still see the same old blue dialler skin.

Am I missing some crucial step? What am I doing wrong as, obviously, the program is ok coz others in this forum have installed it successfully.

OK Ignore the above, got it working. I have to enable this in the registry.

However, the reason I was getting confused was that in AKU3.3 V1.2, if you disabled the phone skin in the registry then it would show the CB skin (colours only, not buttons) as default. In V1.3, it is the generic blue skin as default.

It says that it has been installed successfully, but when I activate the phone, I still see the same old blue dialler skin.

Am I missing some crucial step? What am I doing wrong as, obviously, the program is ok coz others in this forum have installed it successfully.

OK Ignore the above, got it working. I have to enable this in the registry.

However, the reason I was getting confused was that in AKU3.3 V1.2, if you disabled the phone skin in the registry then it would show the CB skin (colours only, not buttons) as default. In V1.3, it is the generic blue skin as default.


It does ask after installation that you should reset the device, so I'm sure you did that. But if you didn't, then you might want to re-install the cab and at the end press OK to reset the device. Hopefully you'll have your new dialer then.

The Contacts is in PIM.VOL. If you read the forum, it did say that the PIM structure from AKU2.x to AKU3.x is different.

The best way is to sync with your outlook and sync it back.

I think it's something related to the memory.....

To avoid device crash, it helps you to automatically close some programs....

Now I can confirm that this ROM 3.5 is realy faster but after some usage has huge memory leaks. Tried on both Universals. Installed aplications as follows:

1. CB_Dialer
2. Pocket Breeze
3. Garmin Mobile XT
4. Backgammon from I-mate rom

May be on next release this will fixed :) :) :)

I have played Ivan's & Jwrightmcps latest ROM's and my personal openion is, Helmi is the winner.
I would like to request him to remove the extra stuffs from the ROM and provide as saperate cab (or ext rom) and it will be the best ROM undoubtedly. Because there is some stuffs and those are not really used and simply eating running memory.

* Ivan seems to load programs a bit faster;

* eats even more memory! (about 1 meg comparing to Ivan);
* nice graphics;
* lots of pre-installed useful and useless programs;
* no smartdialer;

- I was a SmartDial user and still havent found a good free alternative. Just Waiting!
- Some sudden Lock-ups but seems to be due to lack of MEM at times.

Apart from that, the device is very responsive and quick, nice graphs and sounds.

3. Copy MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe & files into the same directory as nk.nbf.
4. Download from FTP for Radio 1.14.10 as well.
5. Copy radio_.nbf of Radio 1.14.10 in the same directory as nk.nbf
5. Put your Universal into Bootloader mode with USB connections.
6. Run MaUpgradeUt_noID.exe.
7. Wait until it says 100%.

Hi All Ive recently upgraded form a ba to universal, which is running well on aku3.5 2.50.00WWE, however the pictures and videos application will not play videos , the pictures section works but videos say the file 'xxxxxx' cannot be opend, either it is not signed with a trusted certificate or components cannot be found, even thoug you get a thumbnail of the video!!. If i use windows media player then go to library then open file they play ok but its a bit of a long winded way. Is there a tweak to get them to play in pictures and videos OR is there a version of Album for the Universal.

The majority of these problems are due to an SPB Backup restore. You're restoring old Windows files over new ones. Notice that even the Windows version is changed to the old one when you restore!!!

OK, I upgraded my i-mate JasJar, and a friends SPV M5000 last night, both suffer from the memory leak, but we can live with this.

Button 4 (record) has stopped working on both, and also Up on the D-Pad (left if it's in landscape) has also stopped.

Both are PU10 id that makes any difference.

I upgraded from Intra 3.3 with an empty Ext ROM, and he upgraded from the Orange ROM that shipped on the device.

Both were working fine before :/

and my operator isn't blocking anything...Internet browsing, email, messnger all was working through all the ROMs I tried (Pocket MSN + Live Messenger)...

but now all I got is Live Messenger is failing to sync and always tells me that's there is no connectivity....or that's I'm in a bad coverage area..

but the Internet Explorer can browse the net through my GPRS normally..

so the problem with Windows Live in GPRS mode, cause It also worked with my WiFi network @ home.

I copy the pMSN*.* from older ROM version into the Windows directory and ran it.

Hotmail ok now.

I have to say that I can not wait for smartdial anymore... however 3.5 rom is the best ever so far. I compared to indra's and Ivan's and found significant speed and memory advantages on helmi's.
I downgraded to 3.3v1.2 now... I have to say it is still faster and has more ram than the others... and smartdial works... besides all other advantages.

Honestly... I still wait for smartdial solution for 3.5 ;) :) ... or a higher version.... maybe caps lock indicator included???????????:p

If you update the ROM, backups from earlier ROM versions cannot be used.

If you like some of the apps (example, Windows Live Msgr, etc), you can copy it out from 3.5v1.3 and put it back into 3.3v1.2

I tried using sprite backups from HelmiAku3.3v1.2 to place into HelmiAku3.5v1.3, works, but seems performance is not good.

So I did a hardreset and do everything fresh, except for those items that are still in my extended rom and shortcuts (*.lnk) files.

Aku2 to Aku3.x you need to do it fresh as a lot of the apps and also PIM cannot use on Aku3.x.

Does not know what Battery Status software function, but if you are looking for something that report the battery %, try either LVMTopBat.exe or GigearApps BatMemTime.CAB.

I have had to revert back to 1.2 because of the lack of Smart Dial (I really need this otherwise the Uni just doesn't behave like a phone) and after about 1 day of use I installed the CB_Dialler and then had to reset the Uni, after this my Outlook email completely disappeared, all the settings, the account & all the emails. This may be due to something else but it has never happened to me before.

Speed and look are very good but there are apps missing from 1.3 that are in 1.2, why was the app list changed ?

Yeah. I realized that the first time I played around with the new ROM. I however let SPB Pocket Plus manage the app closing business. And for some odd reason I can't even find the HTC X button app anymore. Well it's strange. Even when I open, say Settings or Programs, when I close them it goes to my Today Screen but it still says Programs or Settings with the close button still there. It's really strange.

Personally I would like to see the 'vanilla' ROM the same as the O2 Corporate version with none of the extra programs (Camera would be ok).

Don't want to scale it down to a brick that can beep.

Really? As in nothing? ... Well I'll stick with the current ones. Vanilla is definitely not for me. :P ... According to me:
-MMS is a requirement
-VGA is a requirement
-Phonepad I want
-Smartdialer I need but isn't working (hoping it will soon ;))
-Additional file support I want
-Don't really need the Video call

True! No point really with a brick that beeps! :D

Looks like this vanilla version is high demand. We might release a normal version and a vanilla version of every future ROM. ;)

I agree with you. We should have the vanilla (with nothing) and the cab files for personal customizations. That seems fair for all.

lol!! :D ... Well I think now we need to find out what apps are needed for the basic operation of WM5. Once that's found out we can then customize the rest depending on our own needs.

If no, go to "Settings" --> "Personal" --> "Phone" --> "Voice Mail and Text Messages".

Check with your service provider what is the "Text Messages service center" number.

I have been trying at least two weeks to solve suspend sd-card problem.
I recently upgraded to "I-mate JASJAR AKU 3.2 Rom Update 1.90.94" ROM.

My JASJAR stops applications installed on sd-CARD after suspend. (not always). This issue unstable.It was same before and after AKU 3.2. I red many things about it in different forums.

My findings
- The name of issue DSOD "Dark screen of death"
- Problem comes from --> suspend shuts down (unmounts) sd-card, wake-up can not mounts it fast enough. so opened programmes installed on sd-card crashing.
- suggested solutions [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Power\State\Suspend]
dsk1:=2 (To keep sd-card awake)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\]
"PNPUnloadDelay"="8192" (originally set at 4096)
"PNPWaitIODelay"="8192" (originally set at 4096) (to make softwares delayed until sd-card wakes up)

These suggestions just decreased my sd-card crashes. But did't solve problem.

When I suspend my JASJAR now I am praying for wake it up whitout sd-card problem.
If I run something from sd-card I cannot continue after suspend. (sometimes)

I am going to install ROM AKU 3.5 now.
My questions
1- is there anybody having same SD-card problem with AKU 3.5
2- Is this ROM compatible with JASJAR
3- If I buy faster (150X) sd-card , can I solve this problem.

WinCE is NOT DESIGNED to run programs off the SD Card (while technically it is possible). The only programs that is recommended to store on SD card is Maps, Dictionaries and games. All other should go where the developers expect it.

For example my pdf reader is in main memory and pdf files are in sd-card. After suspend still program terminates. So i cannot read anything contiuously. I need to reopen all files after suspend. Is it normal for winCE.

I was happy in my Himalaya (O2 XDA II) with same card and same softwares. There was no problem with sd-card installed softwares or data. I was using WM5.Still I didn't sell it. I am planning to go back my himalaya but the only difference for me 640 x 480. It's 4 times big area to read PDF's. Himalaya has 320 x 240. (not enough to read pdf). But there is no problem with SD-card. I think it is winCE too.

I am everyday reading PDF's by Repligo software. I stuck now !

I think some XDA execs has this problem.

Another question :

Does anybody know any device 640 x 480 and Windows Mobile.

First I am going to try AKU 3.5 then I am going to give up and I can try to quit from XDA exec to another model with 640 x 480.

Just realise something that is not happening in Helmi_c Aku3.3 v1.2 but happens in Helmi_c Aku3.5 v1.3.

- Incoming Call Ringtones take WAV & WMA.
- Others Ringtones take only WAV.

If I install the Resco Explorer 2005 version 5.42 i can select the Language during the Installation procedure. I have no OK-Button to click, so i can't finish the installation.

The problem ist also in during the installation of Resco Keyboard Pro, version 4.36. The version 4.35 works fine without problems.
