Alright ROM upgrading lesson: plugin the Universal into the USB of your laptop or PC and make sure Activesync is installed and detects it on your laptop. Next run the executable file for the ROM upgrade and it should go smoothly. Just follow the instructions till the end of the ROM upgrade.

Now if you are looking for the best and most stable ROM's, xda-developers would be a good place for it. The reason why I dont like official shipped ROM's from companies is because they are outdated and usually lacking a lot of features. Orange ROM's are very slow and take up a lot of memory. Ofcourse company ROM's have their benefits like the Orange start menu and main menu looks completely different from all ROM's released to date, company ROM's also most likely contain more drivers to support things like blackberry connect software.
Now if you are looking for a nice stable/best/latest ROM xda-developers would be a nice place. You can download Helmi's AKU 3.5 ROM which is the best we have to offer at the moment and is also the best on the net. Helmi's ROM must be extracted, its in .rar format which is just like .zip and then you have to run the executable file in the folder you extracted it to. Everything will go fine if you follow instructions and dont do anything weird.

download winrar and install it, right click on the file you downloaded and click extract to folder..to extract the contents of the rar file. Next you have to connect your device via USB and activesync must detect and synchronise with it. Then in the folder where you extracted the rar file there will be an executable file romupgradeutility or something. Just follow the steps it tells you and you shall be fine. Dont worry if the screen turns black or anything

Its a good place to start.
I'm still running with JWrightmcps Rom .96 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279258
I have been running this since it came out - cracking Rom.

I will look to upgrade to Helmi's AKU3.5 soon I think.

Have fun
