HI ALL,
risidoro is back! :)

EDIT: VERSION 11.1.7.1023 IS NO MORE THE LATEST ONE. I'VE PUBLISHED THE MOST UPDATED VERSION (.1034) HERE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1484597#post1484597). PLS USE THAT ONE AND DO NOT CONSIDER ANY MORE THE POST BELOW!!!

I'm here to release a New and Improved version of the great:

Intent MIDlet Manager version 11.1.7.1023

This new MIDlet Manager comes from the new HTC Herald ROM, version 1.2.405

This new version is JTWI 1.0 compliant and SUPPORTS Google's SATELLITE Maps (of course, you need to download Google Maps' client from www.google.com/gmm) (http://www.google.com/gmm)).

This release also supports sending SMSs from Opera Mini 3.0 (mini.opera.com)!!!

Some Details about the program:
Developer: Intent
Name: MIDlet Manager
Version: 11.1.7.1023
Build: 20060907
JWTI v.1.0 Compliance!

------- HOW TO INSTALL ------------

- Download Risidoro's Intent MIDlet Manager version 11.1.7.1023 (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Misc/Risidoro_Intent_MIDlet_Manager_v11.zip)

- extract the cab (inside the archive) somewhere in your PC (e.g. Desktop)

- copy to somewhere in your PocketPC (e.g. \storage card)

- in your PocketPC, navigate with File Manager to the cab and tap on it to install

- when asked, choose to install in the Device (and NOT in Storage Card!)

- reboot when asked

PS: It can be installed over previous version (or in roms where the old midlet is included)!

-------- WORKING MIDLETS ---------------

So far, i've only tested it with the midlets i use the most.

- Google Maps (http://www.google.com/gmm) runs fine. Satellite maps are supported!!!

- Opera Mini (http://mini.opera.com) 3.0 runs OK too and supports SMS sending. Even softkeys works! Photo blog feature, however, is not supported :(

- Mobile GMaps (http://wap.mgmaps.com/), beta 1.30.08. Simply wonderful. Sat images for google and yahoo maps.

- MobileMule (http://mobil.emule-project.net/index.php?page=download&language=en) (latest beta) works ok.

-------- PROBLEMS SO FAR (and possible solutions) ---------------

- a user wasn't able to use this version to connect to the Internet through a proxy
---> use a direct connection to the Internet; check your proxy; downgrade to the old MIDlet manager version.

- the cab cannot be installed due to a security warning
---> soft-reset and retry; use MS Certificate Powertoy for Windows Mobile 5 (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7e92628c-d587-47e0-908b-09fee6ea517a&displaylang=en) to disable all the security checks

- If you want to revert back to the old version of the Intent MIDlet manager:
Download the Intent MIDlet manager version 10.1.7.551 (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Wizard/Misc/Intent_MIDlet_manager.cab)

Bye bye

Thanks for the file, Risidoro. I have downloaded it, and will try it later. Good to have a better midlet manager.

For those concerned with using gmaps on their phone, however, there are a couple free native Windows Moble programs which will display such maps. I find them much more convenient than using a Java midlet, no matter how good the midlet manager might be.

One such program is called Map4PDA, another one is Virtual Earth Mobile. And there is also Microsoft's new beta "Live Search". There may be more, these three come to mind right away. (I don't have the URLs handy. You can find them with a search.)

There is also another Java midlet map program called MGMAPS, which I find more flexible than Google's GMAPS. (It will show the Google maps, or the Microsoft maps, or Yahoo maps, and has other more flexible features.) However, I still find it much simpler to use a Windows Mobile app, rather than a Java midlet.

why use the google one? dny238 found an app that is free and blows the google maps out of the water.

I prefer native applications too (although i couldn't live without Opera Mini (http://mini.opera.com)) but microsoft's maps haven't a good satellite coverage in italy compared to google maps so i don't like MSN virtual earth or Live search very much. I didn't know Map4PDA and i'm going to install it very soon, i hope it supports google sat maps!

Thanks for the suggestions. Let me know if you remember some other google maps compatible native software.

I can read and yes, i know MS's Live search; however, as i said, MSN satellite maps are not much detailed outside US, especially in Italy.
With Google sat maps i can zoom over my house until i can even see my car parked in front of it! With MSN sat maps i can only see all my town, when i try to zoom more i see a message informing the area is not mapped.

BTW, i've just tried map4pda and i've found it slower than mgmaps (a midlet). Map4pda is a .Net 2 application so it's not a real 'native' application, its code is managed (or runtime) exactly like any java applet.

I'll stick with mgmaps until i find a real, compiled, ppc application.

Anyway, if you believe in the newer-is-better paradigm like me (*), you will want to update your midlet manager with the newer version i posted. Just my two cents.

(*) the paradigm doesn't apply to MS's latest OS. IMHO, XP (or 2003 server) is ways better than Vista!

thanks but I wasn't able to complete the install of the new MM on my MDA Vario II (Hermes) due to some "security warnings". after going back to some previous midlet manager (v10.1.7.551) I ALWAYS get an error message (sth like "midlet won't run") if I try to run ANY java midlet (jar or jad). any ideas on how to solve this?

(I overclock and plug in the charger and the phone/map/GPS plotting zips along).

How (and what) did you "pull" from the extended ROM? I tried to install the new version (11.1.7.1023) from Risidoro but couldn't finish the install due to some error msg ("no sufficient rights"). After this I had to reinstall some other MM version I found here since I don't have the original version that came with my MDA Vario II/Hermes. Problem now: I cannot run any midlets and always receive an error msg (sth like "couldn't open midlet file") . Any ideas?

ojay, to solve your problem you can try this:

- download MS Certificate Powertoy from HERE (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=7e92628c-d587-47e0-908b-09fee6ea517a&displaylang=en).
- install it in your PC, connect the phone to usb and run the program
- Choose the 'No security' (i don't remember the exact name) configuration and apply
- reinstall the Midlet manager

Note: the certificate powertoy will deactivate the certificates security checks on the cabs you install.

Let us know if this method works.

Alternatively, if this method doesn't work, search the previous MIDlet manager version i posted some months ago.
This is the link for the old version: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272499

It works in my PC. Also, i've checked the ftp server and the file is still there :)

Maybe, if you're using Internet Explorer 6 or 7, you cannot open addresses containing name and password (e.g. ftp://name:passwd@ftp.someserver.com). If this is your case either:

- install a 'real' browser (opera or firefox)
- use a ftp client to open ftp.xda-developers.com (name: xda, passwd: xda)

Thank you for the good work, works beautiful. Especially opera mini works like a charm!

However I run into a small problem: google maps seems to freeze and when I kill it, my whole wizard is running very slowly and I have to reboot to really get it out of the system. Does anybody experience the same same problem?

I'm not getting any joy with Google Maps either  MM installed fine, but the maps app (which didn't work with the previous version) doesn't seem to want to play. No stylus support, soft keys work briefly but then freeze, then the whole app freezes. Gmail app works fine.

Hey Risidoro,
This looks like a good 'un. but unfortunately not much luck on my mda.

Been lurking here for a while, and have a million folks to thank for a million good tweaks :)

I heavily use my existing Intent Midlet Mgr for Opera Mini and Gmail, and it works tolerably well. It doesn't handle dropped GPRS connections well and occasionally hangs and crashes my MDA.

The big problem with it is that it uses a non-proportional font (courier?), which makes reading a real problem at smaller sizes, and efficient screen usage a problem at large sizes.

Was dying to try this as an alternative.
1. initially got a "insufficient permissions" msg
2. did a soft reset; installed the security toy, provisioned successfully
3. got the same "insufficient permissions" msg

Any hope?
Or any genius tweak to change the font of the current manager? (The tweak i found on the Tao Forum didn't work)

thanks anyway (for a load of other stuff!)

Does this work on PPC2003SE? I installed it without issue, and it removed my previous version, but included no new shortcuts. The old shortcuts no longer work. I noted, after reinstalling a few times, that the EXE file for the app goes in \Windows\jmm.exe. I tried executing this file, but it didn't work... I can only assume that this is a Windows Mobile 5 app (even though it installed without any warnings)? Or am I doing something wrong? I will now try the previous version as referred - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272499&page=2

I will now try the previous version as referred - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=272499&page=2

I also tried the other version, but it doesn't work either. Interestingly, the jmm.exe file doesn't display an icon when viewed alongside the (renamed) jmm.exe of the previous original version (v10.1.2.49), which does display the icon (white icon, blue circle, with parts of a person on top).

When I run from my previous link in the Start Menu, I get the following message jmm.exe - 'jmm' is not a valid Pocket PC application.

Any help from others who may have had similar issues?

Thanks in advance...

Hei guys,
i really don't know why some of you are having problems with this prog. I'm running it fine on my wizard with both molski's 3.0 rom (which includes my midlet manager by default) and the 2.26 rom i released a while ago.

Maybe there's some problem with the installer (the cab file) and not with the program itself. In this case you may try to extract the cab content in your PC and then copy the files by hand. Or you can try installing in your device the disable_security cab (you can find it in many rom's extrom) prior to installing my cab.

I'm really sorry if this prog isn't working in your phone. I can assure you it is working fine in my wizard and in many other users' ones.

Maybe there's some problem with the installer (the cab file) and not with the program itself. In this case you may try to extract the cab content in your PC and then copy the files by hand.

The installer installed without any problems. But, just to be sure, I opened the _setup.xml file inside the CAB, and extracted the 00000JMM.006 to my PPC as jmm.exe. This file still didn't have the icon that my existing jmm.exe file has.

Or you can try installing in your device the disable_security cab (you can find it in many rom's extrom) prior to installing my cab.

I don't think this applies to the PPC 2003SE. Security affects only Smartphone 2003 & PPC WM5+ devices. I didn't have any of the security/certificate issues that others have described in this thread.

I'm really sorry if this prog isn't working in your phone. I can assure you it is working fine in my wizard and in many other users' ones.

I appreciate your response, anyway. Would you be able to let me know whether it's supposed to work on a PPC2003SE device? Usually WM5 installs just fail outright at the install stage, or perhaps it's a WM5 application that has been packaged in the PPC2003 style?

Thanks again.

I have a Blue Angel (PPC2003SE), not a Wizard (WM5).

So i think the problem is this midlet manager isn't wm2003 compatible...

Don't know. Are you sure that 00000jmm.006 is jmm.exe actually? When i said extract the cab's files, i supposed you would have used WinCE Cab Manager

You're right. I made a generic package while i should have made a wm5-only cab. I'm sorry for the time you wasted. At least now, other wm2003 users know that this is not compatible with their devices.

Imate SP5 is a WM5 SmartPhone and NOT a PocketPC phone. I don't know whether this program is supposed to run on smartphones or not, so i can't say if there's something wrong with your phone. Anyway, considering that i found it in a PPC phone, it is likely that it won't run in any smartphone.

I think it is only WM5 PPC phone compatible. No Smartphones, No WM2003.

Never tried that! I just looked in the _setup.xml file. But the file was the same size (kBi) that the file that installed with your installer was. So I'm pretty sure it's the same. The mapping was between these two files in the XML.

That would be very much appreciated - thanks for making this available, anyway (I'm sure that all the others with WM5 devices are very greatful!).

In the meantime, to use Google Maps, I'll just have to continue with the IBM Midlet Manager (which works on PPC2003SE, but not with Opera Mini).

hello,

thanks for the MIDlet manager update!

all applications run just fine, only IM+ from shapeservices, an instant messenger, has a problem with it... much too small letters in conversations! the other letters kept their size, or are at least readable.

with the wizard's native MIDlet manager it is working... how can that be? does anybody have an idea on how to fix that?

+1 for Virtual Earth Mobile, i use it all the time and its great. lets you use your own GPS, updates while you drive, will overlay sat. and road maps together,it even shows traffic maps. and if you dont havea GPS it can find your location by the wifi if you are on one ( isnt always supported by the wifi hotspot/ router)

Most java games don't run with this midlet manager (nor with its previous version). Don't know why, i'm not a java guru, probably they need some java graphic libraries that are not supported in PPC.
The only games that will probably work are those created for motorola phones; I remember i read something about this on menneissys blog. You can try.

Thanks for this update. Installs and works great on 8525. Gmaps v1.4 series still seems to hang though, and I get a message in 1.4.2 that traffic services are not supported on the 8525. The last 1.3x release works like a champ in sat and hybrid modes, joystick, etc. and traffic will "turn on", but still don't see the speed indicators I see on other phones. Any idea what the hangup is with traffic services and the 8525?

**Just realized...sorry for the cross-post. Got linked over here from the Hermes section, but this may apply across both models. Thx.

Works nicely on HTC Artemis .... prior to this I had Tao's Intent Midlet Manager v.10

All I use as of today is GMail Mobile application and it works on both nicely. I wonder what are the major differences between v10 and v11.

I'll try now Opera Mini on both and see.

Tnx

Hello all :),

I'm having trouble running MIDLet Intent v11 and even with v10 on my QTeck 2020 (know also as O2 XDA II), having WM5 installed (I have upgraded the ROM with a new version).

Installation seems to work OK - jmm.exe and other files are in WINDOWS directory, but when trying to run them, I just get a standard "thinking" colour circle for 1 second and then nothing happens, MIDLet Intent is not in memory. I have tried to find any event log, but I was not successfull.

Before I had tried WM5 ROM update, I have tried WM2003SE ROM update and in that distribution, there was the MIDLet Intent and seemed to be working (at least I could run it).

So questions:
1. what could be wrong ?
2. does anybody try MIDLet Intent for this version of XDA ?
3. Does MIDLet Intent create any logs for troubleshooting purposes ?

Many thnx to any idea spelled here out :D

Hi,

I have found alternative Midlet that is working fine with my XDA and WM5 - it is the HIMA Java PPC 10.1.0.17 WWE - this works fine, GMAps working fine, Opera seems to be working fine as well (at least starts well, I can't get pass the network test when in cradle connected to my PC with connection to internet ... I do not have SIM card in my PDA yet, so I can't test the GPRS connection ...).
I had now some troubles when experiencing with enlarging the ROM space, I had to go back to W3KSE, so I had the chance to look at what JVM is working fine with my O2 XDA (originally Qtek 2020) - it is the Tao 1.5.11 (vppc-jmm-test-devlock-htcph10, build 20040225. I haven't tried any Java app with this midlet, so I cant say how good it is.

Cheers !:D

Hi,

I have pdaviet WM6 Black&Blue v2 rom on my Artemis and installed Intent v11, the one linket from the original post. Than installing the jar-s was also OK, but when I tried to run any of them (for ex. opera mini) I got the "Failed to run midlet" error message. Afterwards, I tried with intent v10 (uninstalling v11 and installing v10) but got the same error messages.

What could be my problem? Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you for this article which gives me hope!
I downloaded the intent MIDlet Manager but am unable to get it to install successfully on my iPAQ PPC (Mobile 5). I suspect that this is a security matter.
I would be most grateful if you would tell me how to get the MS Certificate Powertoy for Windows Mobile 5 to connect to my device. I have installed it on my PC but when I run it I see no way of getting it to connect, even though ActivSync is running!
Thank you

Hi expert,

I was following

http://www.modaco.com/lofiversion/index.php/t253768.html

to enable proxy for opera mini 3.1, but my opera mini is still connecting directory to server.operamini.com (195.189.142.68) during setup. not through the proxy I set.

Can anyone confirm if proxy is support by Intent MIDlet Manager, especailly the new version. Is there any change in the new version. The document seems for Intend Midlet Manager v10.

My version is V11.1.7.1023 which is downloaded here. I have tried selecting "Network" and "My Work Network" in the menu connections, either doesn't work, The latter works for my Pocket IE (Windows Mobile 5). I have tried killed the process and restarted also. I was using ActiveSync for testing.

Any help is appreciated.

I was surprised that Java 3D works with this MIDlet manager on my MDA. JBenchmark 3D results are posted below. Only 4fps low quality and 2fps high quality, but still interesting. Had to move the application data folders to the storage card to have enough room for it though.

I'm having the some weird capitalization problems though. It wasn't working right in the online submission form for the JBenchmark and was also not working correctly for MidpSSH. I can't delete or space without holding the shift key, but all the letters are capitalized regardless of the shift key. I did manage to get lowercase letters if I caps-locked and then held shift while I typed. It seems to get locked into other bizzare combinations as well. Has anyone else run into problems like this with the JVM? Unlike PocketPutty, MidpSSH has a small enough font to run 80x25-ish terminal, and this JVM seems fast enough (unlike J9) and allows typing input (unlike Esmertec).

HI ALL,
risidoro is back!

When you unzip the first time you get the CAB. It is not another zip but a CAB the one you see. The problem is that windows, by default, hides file extensions and winrar supports CAB files so what you see as a winrar archive is actually the CAB you're after.

BTW, intent midlet manager is no more the best midlet manager out here. Search for the latest Jbed midlet manager instead.
