Run the .exe (on your PC) as if you are installing the ROM. After the contents have been extracted and you are asked if you want to continue, just browse to the \Windows\Temp folder and you will se the extracted contents. This has been described in the Atom section last post by Apu http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=268005&page=7&highlight=New+atomi+rom

If it is a WinImg file you would need that program to "look inside" :)

Using: XDA Orbit

I connected the Orbit with my desktop pc and run the "RomUpdateUtility.exe" on my desktop pc, continued the first 2 steps ( "I understand..." "i complete..." ) and canceled then. But there is no extended rom on my desktop pc (C:\Windows\Temp) or Pocket PC (Windows or Windows\Temp)

...What i'm doing wrong?

I think, if i press "Update" in the "RomUpdateUtility.exe" it will update my Pocket PC - or not?

You don't have to cancell. Just stop there and look in the temp folder. You can cancell after you have copied the contents of tep somewhere :)

Upon searching further, I found the following site:

I have cid unlocked my phone and wanting to flash this dopod rom. However i dread that "this is a test rom...." thing on the test rom from ftp after soft reset if I should want to revert to my original P3300 rom. (I have not seen the p3300 shipped rom yet)

Anyone who has tried both please tell me any improvements over htc rom above. Any issues with tomtom?

-Absolutely no issues with anything, except the network wizard does not list any networks than the asian ones. this meaning first usage of phone you have to cancel the wizard. after that the phone locks into the standard routine of finding your network.
- main feature afaik is the tremendous increase in speed on my machine in comparison to the orig tmouk and tmobile germany rom.

Thanks for your input. However, my mention of test ROM refers to the HTC version on ftp.

In the meantime, I have copied the extrom files just in case. Will upload to ftp as I don't see it among the uploaded ones ;)

is good rom. it is not test, as thormdac already mentioned.
you can use it.
for the moment there is no known method to dump rom from device, keep this in mind when re-flashing. if you would like to go back to original rom, make sure you have it, before flashing with somethig else.

Hi, I'm reflashed my P3300 (French) to Test WWE ROM more than month ago.
I did not notice any issue to use the test ROM (except the annoying splash screen after each reset). WLAN works fine. TomTom -super.
Just recently done the trip NL-DE-DK-SE and back in total 2000 km with working TomTom nonstop. Everything was great. Suppose it was real "crush test" for navigation software :-)
But of course will reflesh to the normal HTC shipped ROM as soon as someone dear find it and share with the community :-)

you are the third person that i know who can not install another rom on Orbit device with unlocked cid. and this is not that imei-check doing something wrong, they unlock your device, you can check this, but new rom does not install. :(.
i am not sure it will work, but try this:
run your imei unlocker .exe file. this will load fake spl file with haret utility.
when unlocker will ask you for the .unl file, don't select it. go to unlocker windows and press Ctrl+C, this will terminate unlocker, but your device will remain in fake bootloader. at this point start your rom update. as your cid already unlocked, it may work.
inform about the results.

With the help of the IMEI-CHECK team we have finally upgaded my orbit phone with the new ROM. I am now successfully running the new ROM, and have been able to convert my GER (German) language phone to WWE (English) using this method.

Below I have listed the instructions for use with the DOPOD ROM (on the FTP site), but this method will also work with the other Artemis ROM's as well.


Downloads / Setup:
=============================================
- Download HexWorkshop from http://www.bpsoft.com/downloads/
- Download ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe from ftp.xda-developers.com
- Download winzip or winrar (if you don't already have one of them.)
- Download CID Unlocker from - http://www.imei-check.co.uk/C3v1Unlock.zip
- Get your IMEI keyfile at http://www.imei-check.co.uk/ ($20 pounds)

File Modification Instructions:
=============================================
1. Install hexworkshop and winzip/winrar
2. In explorer, right click on the file ARTE_DOPODAU_12570702_026990_WWE_SHIP.exe and select "Extract files..."
3. Goto the directory you unpacked the files to above, and right click on the "AUSHIPsigned.nbh" file and select "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
4. Navigate to the 5th row in the editor and you will see the text "ARTE1****". Change this text to "ARTE*****" and save the file.
5. Right click on the ROMUpdateUtility.exe file and select "Hex Edit with Hex Workshop"
6. Search in this file for the word "password" and immediatly after this text you will find the word "BsaD5SeoA". Change this word to "IMEICHECK" and save the file.

Flash Instructions
=============================================
1. Connect the phone to your PC via the USB cable.
2. Run the C3v1Unlock.exe program, and when it requests the UNL file, disconect the phone from the pc and press cancel (and close the unlocker program). The screen on your phone will now probably be white.
3. Connect the phone back to the PC and then run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe you modified above.
4. Follow the instructions of the update utility and it will now flash your phone.
5. After the upgrade is done the phone will reboot automatically. Once this reboot is complete, run the C3v1Unlock.exe again and this time select the correct UNL file.
6. Task Done.

NOTE: After the phone has rebooted, it will automatically start to install the extra dopod tools. If you would like to skip this you need to press the soft reset button with the stylus when the phne gives the 3 second message about installing the add-ons.


I hope this helps some other users upgrade their Artemis phones.

They just change the model id in the rom, and flash it with their "fake" bootloader, that doesn't check signature on NBH. As their fake bootloader uses IMEICHECK as password, the RUU has to be hex-edited to.

Something you could just figured out yourself by looking at the NBH header and at the failed upgrade output of usb monitor.

Nice from them to provide the instructions, they have a really great support team :)

Yes IMEICHECK team have great support and they are so fast on the email responses as well.

I think there was just a delay from them in releasing the info as they told me they didn't have an orbit to test the procedure on. Apparently the artemis is a bit different to the other HTC devices in that it comes with 3 hardware ID's (so far). For example O2 has hardware id ARTE200, T-Mobile C3 is ARTE110 and HTC variant is ARTE100. So if the ROM file has the hardware id in it, it won't flash to a different hardware id.

As pof mentions above they worked out to change the hardware id in the ROM, and then use their modified bootloader without sig checking to flash it.

I also think IMEICHECK team are happy for me to post the solution as it will only work with their UNL file anyway, and it will hopefully show to other users it can be done so they will also buy a UNL file.

I am just so happy to have the phone now working with english language, it is has been easily worth the $20 GBP to get the CID unlocked for me ;)

i can guess what could of happen - you use .unl file from different device.
NEVER DO THIS!!! This may lead to data crash.
cid area is unique for each device, meaning .unl file can't be re-used on different devices.

I have flashed my Tmobile NL Rom with the HTC and the DOPOS and I like the DOPOS more because of some nice addons like audiomanager. Performance is much better now on my MDA Compact 3 and more stable.

But the HTC theme is much more nice than the one that came with the Dopos ROM. Does someone have the HTC theme for me please? I cannot find it via search or google.

you can backup programs, although not all, your contacts, emails,..
but you can not backup your existing ROM, because it is digitally signed.
even if you would be able to backup existing ROM, it would not be of any use, because when you flash your device, signature is removed. if you backup this rom, you will not be able to install it. with standard tools i mean.
for software backup, you can use sunny soft backup manager (http://www.sunnysoft.cz/software.php?idarticle=245) or spb backup (http://www.spbsoftwarehouse.com/products/backup/download.html?en), for example. i am not recommending, just giving you examples, you choose.

No need to backup your current ROM,just visit ACEHellas and ask them nicely ,they'l give you the rom and tell you that its locked to the Greek IMEI's .Better do it before upgrading just to be on the safe side.

I can't find out but that option wasn't there in the TMobile Rom. maybe it is an great feature so i would like to know about it!

You can take a picture of your location with gps co-ordinates and send to a friend via mms, and he can use it as a POI to locate you with his tomtom. Handy in emergencies or to show friends "where the party is at ;)

Wow I found out that in Picasa when looking at the Properties of the file there is GPS data, when I click an coordinate it shows direct in Google maps!!! Wow that is something I can really use for blogging! Really cool this feature!

Edjekroketje, if you're running the HTC rom, can't you manually copy the theme files from the \windows directory and put them on the DOPOS rom ?

If i look in my MDA Compact3 T-Mobile rom, in the \windows folder, i find 2 *tsk files, named Guava Bubbles.tsk & T-Mobile.tsk.

I haven't tried to modify them and replace them on my device but it's worth the try?

I have a T-mobile dutch MDA III
Now i tryed to install the

PDAMobiz_Dopod_P800W_AKU301_v1[1].1.2_PowerMap

rom. The install went great but when i tried to reset my phone (hard reset) it just hang in the boot screen.

I tried the bootloader but i keep getting the vendor error.

I also downloaded the t-mobile rom from the www.t-mobile.nl site, but when i tried to install the rom it says: Connection error 101

I think this update needs the active sync avalible

The MDA III is not the same model as the MDA Compact III. Last time I looked there was no Dutch ROM for the MDA Compact III available yet at the Dutch T-Mobile site. Maybe you are trying to flash the wrong ROM?

Unfortunately, there is no Dutch T-Mobile ROM available. Well, not on the Internet anyway. You could be aware of that if you read the different threads about it before trying to flash...

However, things are not completely lost and your phone is not worthless. Just send it back to the local T-Mobile Servicecentre. They are able to restore the ROM. Maybe it will cost you some money though.

1. Connect the phone to your PC via the USB cable.
2. Run the C3v1Unlock.exe program, and when it requests the UNL file, disconect the phone from the pc and press cancel (and close the unlocker program). The screen on your phone will now probably be white.
3. Connect the phone back to the PC and then run the ROMUpdateUtility.exe you modified above.
4. Follow the instructions of the update utility and it will now flash your phone.
5. After the upgrade is done the phone will reboot automatically. Once this reboot is complete, run the C3v1Unlock.exe again and this time select the correct UNL file.
6. Task Done.

NOTE: After the phone has rebooted, it will automatically start to install the extra dopod tools. If you would like to skip this you need to press the soft reset button with the stylus when the phne gives the 3 second message about installing the add-ons.


I hope this helps some other users upgrade their Artemis phones.
