I want to migrate to Linux (currently testing OpenSUSE 10.2) but I also would like to have possibility to synchronize my contacts, calendar etc. with my HTC TyTN. Has anyone tried it? I've heard that there were problems with devices using WM 5.0, but also recently I've found some info that latest versions of SynCE are compatibile with these devices. Please advise.

Haven't tried it in Hermes, but I read SynCE works now with WinCE 5.

I tried this, but it seems so complicated... I wish I had more time... Requires kernel recompiling, adding some custom driver modules, etc... And the usage seems limited.

just recently i've found option to synchronize with Pockets and Palms already included in openSUSE 10.2 but haven't had the possibility to try that out yet. i will let you know how it works (or not) when I'll have an opportunity to check it.

Funambol (http://www.funambol.com/opensource/) seems to offer a range of solutions. I'm going to try it, but haven't yet.
There is a connector for pocket pc, and to most backends in regular use. It might be a bit over the top for most people, and might require a server running exchange or suchlike. Which is the sort of environment I will be using it in (possibly kolab).

yeah, the SynCE gui is a mess; the fork's been dead for a while it would seem. I've got the underlying services running but never got it to actually connect with my TyTN. I stopped debugging a few weeks ago.
What the heck is "Pockets and Palms". I'm running SLED 10 and there's nothing here. Google turns up a blank as well. Anyone got a link?
