View Full Version : Lack of Cases for Artemis

Hi,

Is it just me or are the case manufacturers quite slow at getting out cases for the Artemis?

I would ideally like a Krussell Red Label Classic style case or a Brando with the horizontal flip that covers only the screen.

Was even thinking about trying an iPod Video case as they are about the same size as an Artemis. Would need to modify it a bit but I am sure it would do.

Does anybody have any idea of when more cases will be released? I am not interested in either the current PDair cases or Brando' first case offerings. Also not keen on a Silicone one as they attract to much dust and they done protect the screen.

hi spangelsaregreat,

I know you say you have already rejected the PDair cases... but.. I bought one of GPSforLess (their ebay shop) until I find a suitable silicone case for my orbit and I'm really impressed with it.
The quality of the case and the stitching etc is very good....

I've just ordered a PDair 'book' case for the orbit I'm getting next week - I was wondering if, with the design changes between the Artemis and the Orbit, all the holes line up in the right places?
Cheers and MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Hi,

As a stopgap I am going to get the PDair vertical flip case. I intend to modify it a bit by cutting it down so that it only covers the screen and not the buttons.

Hopefully Krussel will get there classic case out shortly.

Gents,

This weekend I found a shop that sells a aluminum hardcase for the Artemis.

They are called Siemshop and have a shop at Ebay.com.
It comes in 2 different versions: aluminium and black anodised.
Price is approx. 19 USD.

I order a black one yesterday and will post my findings ones I have reveived it.

I already have one of the cases from Siemshop, I have the brushed aluminium case and it is a near perfect fit apart from there is a slight issue with removing the stylus while the phone is in the case.

I don't see this as much of a problem as I plan to use my dremel to reduce the case in that area to sort the problem.

I believe the case is made by pdair as mine was packaged quite nicely in a pdair box etc. The screen is protected by a plastic screen which can be easily removed if you wished.

So I would recommend if you have had this type of hard case in the past get this one, as you cannot beat it due to it not really increasing the bulk of the device and allowing you to attach it to your belt if you so wish.

Hi,

Been using the PDair vertical flip case for a week now.

Its okay but to be honest it is a pain to use when someone calls you.

I have now ordered a Boxwave case which has the buttons exposed and a horizontal flip which covers the screen only.

Will post some pics when it crosses the Atlantic.

hello,

@spangelsaregreat
Thanks for the hint this case looks very promising. I'm also looking for an appropriate flip case and the Piel Frama was the only one fitting my needs...but 50 € is a bit too much in my opinion. I'm impatiently looking foreward to your review.

Sorry to mess with the topic, but my question is do you really need the case for this phone/pda ? Its so small, compared to all others pocketpc... The only thing I use in mine is screen protector... besides that I just wear mine in the pocket.
I think the case for this tiny pda (comparing to the competitions) just add to the bulkiness factor....

Hi,

From a personal point of view I don't really trust only a screen protector for the touch screen. I like to know when it is in my pocket it has some extra protection.

Also over the last couple of years (JAM then JAMin) I have dropped my Pocket PCs and the leather cases have done a good job of keeping them dent free.

You pays your money.......

hi Spanglesaregreat,

I am currently using a taiwan make Silicon cover for my P3300, and it is Anti-Dust coated, and it doesnot attract dust at all, and is nice and smooth, thou the finish could be better. Now finally, Boxwave have started making the Silicon Cases and theirs should be of much finer finish quality. suggest u give it a try.

I am quiet impressed with the flipcase that u have ordered, but the only thing for me is that i dont want anything to cover the screen, so can the screen covering portion be removed off for good from the case???

Also, when the screen protection flap is closed down to cover the screen, is the speakerphone on the top open to hear the caller? or do i have to open the flap everytime i want to use the device for phone purpose?

thanks!

I've got a birthday coming soon, so I'm dropping hints to the other half about the Piel Frama or the Krusell, both of which look secure and accessible.

Already posted this in the other thread before I realised this one is probably closer to the target:

Has anyone on their internet travels come across a vertical leather pouch/holster for the Artemis that has a belt clip?

Something like this:
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wire...roductid=21740

Just want something that can be attached to a belt and the Artemis slid into and out of - not for use in the actual case.

Must be vertical and minimal size (ie designed for the Artemis and no larger).

Hi,

Finally received my BoxWave case today.

Overall it is a good case and pretty much what I expected. I like the back in that it is sculpted to the phone and not just a slab of thick leather. It would have been perfect if they had continued this at the front. Instead it is a thicker bit of leather that the back piece is stiched to. It adds a bit more bulk than is strickly necessary.

The top closure is velcro and does the job. Some may have preferred a magnetic closure here. The flip is functional and it is possible to pull it back behind the phone for putting the phone in cradle for the car.

I have posted some photos below for you to make your own minds up.

Front Closed

Front Open

Back

Side

In summary it is a compact little case that minimises the bulk of the phone. A change to the front of the case could make it even slimmer if anyone from Boxwave is listening.

MAJID,

How good is the anti dust coating? Does it really stop all the crap attaching itself from you pocket to the cover?

Also, do you have any plans to release a version with a plastic cover for the screen?

I did briefly have one like that for my JAMin, the plastic cover working very well, however, the silicon case just attracted to much dust in my pocket to make it useable.

hi,

the version that I have dont attract dust for some reason its been treated.
I've used the 5 colours (not the pink!) in my orbit they all seem to be fine no dust.
so far there is no version that cover the screen maybe in the future.

Ladotec, JC - how much (if any ) did the aluminium PDair cases need in the end to enable easy stylus access? I like the look of them (solid, minimal additional bulk), do you have any more info?

Not much effort at all to be fair if you have a dremel or equivilent, just take your time with it and grind away the excess. It took me less than 10 mins and I am happy the case is as strong as it was and I did not take too much away from the aperture.

I have just received one of these in black:
http://www.sidiplus.co.uk/silicone%20picture%201.jpg
It is a very good fit for the Orbit. It is more like a sleeve than a thick rubber case.
It has a very fine textured finish with minimal mould flash.

Hi Allenf,

Is the black case semi-transparent like the rest, can you see the buttons through it?

Nice cases but I hate having them stick in my pocket when wearing trousers. Almost dropped my XDA Orbit several times thinking it had slide down into my pocket.

No - it is opaque.
It does have the keys embossed on the outside, but they are hard to read in anything else than bright light.

I was mooching round my local "Game" the other day, and picked up some bargain bin accessories for my son's GameBoy Micro, only for him to tell me that he's lost it in his room somewhere (believable!).
So there I am wondering what to do with this horizontal leather case that I paid all of £2 for when it strikes me that the dimensions look rather familiar. I pop in the Orbit, It's a bit snug at first, but after some stretching and softening exercises and a few days of breaking in it fits like a glove. I might even hole punch some access ports in it.

Flushed with success I raided eBay for more examples. Paid £3.30 for one of these:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-In-Packet-Game-Boy-Micro-Leather-Case_W0QQitemZ130096979361QQcategoryZ18807QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem
Much better looking case, but the elasticated sides may take longer to break in.

Hope someone finds this useful.

Take a look Here (http://www.xda-orbit.com/news.php?item.6.5) for my PDair case review

Jamin100,

Nice review. Brief and to the point. Two questions though:

1) Can you flip the front cover behind the phone so as to allow a firm grip while you write on the screen?
2) Does the case impair one-handed operation in any way? From the look of it, it appears like you cannot make a call or send a text message without having to use both hands somehow.

Thanks.

I like to keep my phone in my pocket, and with previous phones I have had problems with dust gumming up the phone:

* Getting behind the screen
* Getting inside the camera
* Gumming up the buttons

I'm concerned that I may experience similar problems with my Orbit, and so I'm quite keen to keep it protected; however, as I also keep my phone in my pocket I also wouldn't like any case that adds appreciably to the size of the phone.

I'm considering a silicone case, but they do not seem to protect against dust getting in through the wheel and USB socket at the bottom...

What have people's experience with the Orbit & dust been like?

Cheers,

Tim

I recently purchased a silicone case from ebay. I decided it was the best compromise between protection and functionality - if any more of the phone was covered up then you wouldn't be able to get to parts of it.
So I think it will protect the device from bumps or scratches, but the screen is still totally exposed so i can't put it in my bag with my keys for example.

I'm thinking of a silicon case for my Orbit. But I have found nothing that is actually in the shape of the orbit, they are all for the P3300 or the MDA Compact III, which is slightly different in shape (and the alignment for the buttons). Did anyone tried to fit any of these on an Orbit? Does it fit? or does any know of any silicon case specifically for the Orbit?

many thanks

If anyone makes millions selling these after seeing this I want my cut, but...

...why doesn't someone make a book-style case with a built-in mini bluetooth keyboard? Either leather or something more solid would work I would have thought. It'd mean I didn't have to wait for the Kaiser! If the keyboard was rechargeable, you could even use it as a backup power supply for the device.
