Just wanted to highly recommend this ebay seller (http://stores.ebay.com.au/sky-39-top_ipod-earphone_W0QQcolZ4QQdirZ1QQfsubZ3494586QQftidZ2QQt Zkm) - he's selling what I assume are genuine* iPod earbuds, with 2.5mm plugs that work perfectly in the Prophet. It fits well in to the jack, it doesn't 'crackle' when touched (i.e. the connection is great). For $10, it's revived my jamin as my primary music player. I'll be buying another pair and attempting to mod some old Sony EX-71s on to the cable.
edit: on closer inspection they are NOT genuine, but they are damn close. The grey tip on the edge of the earbud's wire end can easily be pulled off and slid around the wire. It doesn't happen unless you pull it, but i'm pretty sure that apple wouldn't release a product that did that. This is the only way I have been able to tell it's not a genuine product. In terms of sound quality It's a pretty close match in my estimation to the cheap senheiser MX-300s that came with my iRiver, or 'the usual' $20 sony buds.
