After flashing the ROM and detaching from the cradle, you must hard reset your device by presseing record+camera and while pressing both prick the reset. It is the step which cannot be skipped...

BTW for your SMS background issue see --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=277595&highlight=_TB_TB_

Since I dont use mp3 as ringtones because they cause delays in ringing. But I have specifically tested for you, the mp3 tones can easily be assigned as ring tones.

hesham, i know the step that you explained to me. but after i did the step, there's no mp3 file in the list.

for your information, file mp3 was stored in SD Card. should i copy the file into specified folder?

in shekhar explanation to assign mp3 as ringtone, just browse the file using file explorer (not resco explorer), tap the file until the menu appearing and select "assign as ringtone" which is i dont have to copy the file into folder \windows\ring.

thx.

Dear friend in this process also the mp3 file is copied to \Windows\Ring automatically. See for yourself...Only thing is that it is simpler and as stated in the manual accompanying the device when you purchase it. What The_hesham is telling is a method adopted by a more experienced user..

I can confirm that it works perfectly with cut off of streamed music when making and receiving calls and return to music when the call finishes.
Turn on pda bluetooth and make discoverable. Put ht820 into discoverable mode by holding down lefthand button for about 7 secs until you get continuous blue light. Now select on PDA bluetooth manager the devices tab and add new device this will find your ht820 . When discovered highlight and click next and enter passcode as 0000 and click next. Headset should then flash blue to confirm passcode is correct. Select boxes to choose handsfree and wireless stereo. Click finish and then click ok to exit . Enjoy playing some music . After pairing only click on device. DONT press and hold then you will have option of selecting both hands free and wireless stereo.
Also noticed that your headset is hs820 whereas mine is ht820 , is this a different model?

The himalaya devices which most of us are having are atleast 2 years old. And so are the batteries. Thats why our batteries are begining to behave in erratic manner. I have two batteries and both are shutting down at different charge levels. The have been long discussions on this issues on this thread as well as on other threads as well. I can say with confidence that there is definitely no prob with the ROM related with this isse. See here--> (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1111805&postcount=325)

Hi zaidam

I feel your pain, my device did the same as well after updated to the latest ROM, previously I was using a ROM called "WM5_2.01a64WWE" and had absolutley no issues at all.

I understand the batteries are old but as many people have realized with the new version of the OS it's doing something none of our phones ever use to do so it has to be an OS issue (not saying it's our ROM builders fault, but defiantly something not 100%)

Hi c_shekhar

Many thanks for that however I know it is working on some devices and not on others, I know it's not your fault and seems to be more of an OS issue, weather MS has changed the algorithm that detects battery life or something I have no idea...

All I'm saying is that WM5 initial releases (I think it's called 2.0?) I have not read of any battery issues but since (3.5 I think it's called) there has been some really strange issues relating to the battery.

I do not expect you to be able to fix this and assume it's more of an OS issue/difference.

The way I'm looking at it is... WM5 initial release = No problems with battery performance at all... Latest version of WM5 running on our phones some people are seeing strange things...

People that have had battery issues reinstall the older version of the OS and there battery runs 100% again, reinstalls the new OS and has issues, so must be something different in the OS side of things but as I've said this is not your fault and I assume all ROMS based on the 3.5 build will be the same, must be an MS thing

Cheers for all your efforts and time, greatly appreciated and OS is working great, I personaly do not have the battery issue but a friend does so I'm happy... LOL

Thanks fudge for the comments..And never mind..
I am certainly not taking it in any personal terms and only interested in extending the discussion further on technical platform. We are exchanging our experiences and our conclusions/guess based on them. What my view is that, the OS cannot be responsible for the cutoff level of battery. You see, when AKU2.0 was tried by all of us it was about atleast 8 months ago. That time our himalayas were average 2 years old. And so were the batteries. We all have experienced the behavior of old batteries in our day to day life on many occasions. How erratically they start to behave? Today when we have stared ttrying the AKU3.5 it is further down the time-line by about 6 months. My observation is that it is the old and worn out condition of the batteries which are giving us trouble and not the OS.
Incidently I have two batteries. And the one out of them is about one year younger. I have seen that the older one collapses at 19% whereas the other was running healthy at even 11% (The screen shot above). And mind it, that it is the scenario experienced on the same device and and on the same OS!!!
What you can try to conclusively substantiate your observations, is to reload the AKU2.x ROM on your device and observe the batteries, and let us all know about it to take the discussion further..regards...c_shekhar

hi

I've got some storage problems. Storage is full and I can't even delete files - I think I "overloaded" storage because I put some files into the ExtRom folder.

My question is: how do I hardreset the pda - that everthing is going to clean/reinstall itself (just the original status)

1) if I want to use Windows Api in my Qtek 2020 to view power strength or level strength for the GPRS not work because Microsoft.WindowsMobile.Utilities dll or his dependences is missing.
2) this rom contains several tools but so I don't have space to charge my applications, there is a fast way to remove this tool from the rom?
3) there is a light version of your rom? Can you build one for me ;-)

Try installing the following registry on your device.
Just remove .zip and install it straight away using resco Explorer..
DONOT foerget to backup your registry before you load these registry for easing out the rollback.

Thanks for the handsfree.exe bluecream but on my XDA, you still have to press & hold the green phone hardware button down for a few secs in order to enable speakerphone (which puts the call on hold, then you have to unhold it).

Is there a fix that allows you to enable the speakerphone from the menus in the phone program once again?

Welcome here in the world of WM5. Here I try to answer your queries:--

Since WM5 has an advantage of persistant memory, this feature is used ffor carving out the extra storage space on XDA which is part of RAM but can sustain the soft as well as hard reset. So you can install your heavy progs on this and enjoy the speed of having it installed on RAM.

You have to use HIMA_DOC_Tool1.0 for merging the ExtROM into the storage and make it 30MB. search this thread you shall find the related post as well as the utility...

Yes it was a problem all through the XDA-2 inception. But, use 3.50c.40cs and in bluetooth settings activate the ftp. You can find this problem completely solved.

cheers..

You dont have to do anything in nk.nba at all. You have to only follow the procedure for running the hima_DOC_Tool. see this thread --> http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,26,6657,page=1 and ensure that your storage is 30MB. Smart dial does not work with AKU 3.5. Yhere is already provided an alternative in ROM ver 3.50c.40CS which is called celedial. It works better than smart dialin my opinion.

1. It should not have any prob with vista. I cannot comment further as I dont use vista.
2. On Radio 1.17 the inbuilt utility of "turn flight mode on" in the phone baloon works fine. Whereas with Radio 1.19 you require external flightmode utility. And like wise there are many more other small small advantage.... I prefer 1.17..

Firstly it is not possible to increase the storage beyond 30MB.
But, I have never faced any shortage of storage space at all. After installing heavy progs like spb weather, spb diary, resco explorer, phatpad, spb photo viewer and many others on RAMDisk of my device I still have abt 14MB of storage spare.

I have indeed experienced the prob getting to flight mode with 1.19... think I too will be downgrading the Radio, thanks for the info...

Apparently it seems like its not a prob with VISTA... i tried to flash my device, so went into the bootloader mode... since then I am unable to sync the device itself, does not seem to be connecting at all, any thoughts/suggestions?

Thanks and Regards...
Ravi.

Old Hima batteries have weird character flaws :) the only solution really is LUCK

back up all your stuff ( and i do mean REALLY backup)
format your SD
dump nothing but the ExtROM on it.
Reflash ROM
Pray

if it works, it works, else, live with it. this is the only possible solution. even if you go back to the old 3.5, there is no guarantee that the batt will not be weird.

mr c-shekar,
i am trying to no avail to run flash files on my ppc. i installed the Adobe Flash player 7 for ppc on it, it installed fine, but then it just dissappears. the flash ext doesnt get associated with it either. There is a Macromedia subdir made in the Windows dir, but it shows empty. /windows/system/ also has no trace of the executable. would you have any idea where this thing gets installed?

ver 3.50c has many improvements including better stabilty. I suggest that you reflash the ROM once again by following the procedure mentioned in the readme files. I hope you shall enjoy it.

As far as battery is concerned it is for sure that the batteries have worn out. They need to be replaced. There are threads on this forum which have deliberated a lot on this issue and finally reached this conclusion. Kindly go through them..

Could you create a new version of your rom, without any 3rd party programs?
Just the basic rom features and standard programas and colors, only adding the fixes and corrections you provide in your rom?

I'm asking this because I nedd one cleen rom with no other programs in order to be very stable and fast.

Thanks for yout time.

i found a glitch in this ROM, everytime i remove the battery the RAMDISK gets wiped. even if i dont use that RAM DISK reset switch.

so have to be very careful about not letting the battery go down to zero either. cause same thing happens

One other thing i noticed, in all of your ROMs, i always had a persistent volume button problem. on each reset, the volume button would automatically keep getting pressed UP until i physically pressed it down and clicked on the vol meter on the Today screen.
in this new one, this problem has been magnified. Now it just doesnt do that only at each reset, but does it suddenly just out of the blue, anytime.

i chalked it up for a long time to the fact, that ok, my vol button is messed up. But then i flashed it recently with Helmi's SP2 ROM and that anooyance has just totally dissappeared. i even reset the peice multiple times to see if it was just a fluke thing, but it actually works. there is no volume button problem any more

just FYI

Battery vs Ramdisk:
I too have encountered this problem. Even the Time resets to factory default. But it is not the ROM related issue. I have two batteries and while replacing the rundown battery with the fully charged one something happens. I guess shorting or mishandling of the connecting pins are the root cause of it. Now, since the the I have started removing the vattery a bit more carefully I dont enclunter this prob.

Volume button-Issue:
I indeed is a very strange prob you have encountered! No body else has ever reported such prolem, though my ROMs are in use since more than a year now. Not even me have this issue, I am surprised. Let us have some more observations on this...

For upgrading the radio kindly put the radio_.nbf of your chosen version in the folder where HimaUpgradeUt.exe is avilable.
2. Bring the xda-2 to bootloader mode.
3. run the HimaUpgradeUt.exe

You have to follow exactly the same procedure for upgrading the radio as you had adopted for upgrading the ROM.
The best way is to add the radio_nbf into the folder where nk.nbk is existing. Anf, run the HimaUpgradeUt.exe. It shall upgrade both.

DeltaDart

Greetings All,

CS, I think you from the ends of the Earth for the wonderful work that you have shared with the people here in building the WM5 ROM for the Himalaya.

I bought my XDAii about 2 years ago, and it didn't take long before I thought that I had bought a lemon. I can't remember a single week going by that I didn't have to do a complete re-install of all the programs to this device from a crash. In the end, I was running Sprite Backup and backing up at least once a day so that I would have a reasonably recent file to restore from, but this was too frustrating and in the end I put the phone back into the box and decided to sell it.

That was about 12 months ago now, and I'm glad that I didn't get around to selling it because after finding this website, downloading and installing your ROM, I could not be happier with the phone.

I've been using the new ROM for about a month now and not a single problem. I have tried several versions of your ROM's and decided to come back to the 'B' version and a downgraded Radio to 1.17.

The speed increase from the standard 2003SE version of Windows is simply stunning and the phones new-found stability stands alone as a reason to keep it.

No complaints here and I again thank you for all you work and continual support of those wanting to use your creation. I have read each and every post on these 70+ pages and you have had your hands full trying to keep everyone happy. I applaud your willingness to continue and release the 'C' version even though you said that you were done with this project.

To those that don't like the work that has been done here. The door is over there and don't let it hit you in the arse as you leave this happy place. There are plenty of empty ROM's out there and I'm sure that you can find one with a simple look on Google or head to http://buzzdev.net/

Thanks again CS

Regards

Delta

CS, quick question.

I know you can rotate the screen using the systray icon for screenrotate, but i have that disabled the tray default because it takes up too much space.

Using wisbar advance's method of screen rotating (wm2003only) leaves my XDA all jumbled when slide2unlock is running. Screenrotate's the only thing that works properly.

So my question is, how can i create a regular shortcut (that i can store in the start menu or as a button in claunch) that when pressed, will auto-rotate the screen to your desired orientation (basically what the systray icon does)?

BTW, continued congrats from me on this ROM. It hasn't let me down yet. Still running as good as the day i installed it. Only reason i can see for upgrading to a new one is if you rebuilt this with the Widcomm bluetooth stack. Kudos CS.

Dear c_shekhar,

Many thanks for your rom 3.5c.40CS. it is very nice, however i found some mistake need to be corrected as follow:
- Speaker phone button on call does not work
- Can not update contact when add new number (Nokia phone can). whenever we add new contact, PPC never ask to update or add new.
- When save new number from call history, PPC always auto add to office phone, not mobile phone

i think if we can add and correct these functions then your rom will be surely much nicer.

Thanks

Hey guys,

I think I can call myself a NOOB  regarding flashing ROMS.

I have an I-mate Pocket PC (as I found on the forum it is the equivalent of the Himalaya) and the ROM update in this topic should transfer my WM2003 to a WM2005. I want to upgrade to run some programs that need SNAPI, which is only integrated from WM2005.
My biggest concern at the moment is that the ROM update goes wrong and that I can throw away my phone (and new phones are expensive)

Can someone help me with the following questions.....
1. Is this the correct upgrade for my phone?
2. Can I make some kind of recovery ROM backup for my device
3. Can someone talk me through the different steps (sort of tutorial), maybe with some screenshots

Thanks very much in advance....

Install the following cab on your device and backup your SMS using it. Switch over to the version c and restore them. This utility is inbuilt in version c....

Thanks a lot - great work by the way :)

Hey C_Shekhar

Just upgraded to WM6 (Helmi's TofClock ROM) but i wanna keep a few things from this ROM (specifically, the Blue_White KB Skin, Flight Mode, Photo Dialler (that cool speed dial thingy on today screen with photos of contacts), Select All contacts and delete selected (More than one) contacts in the option, WM5 newMenu, Contact backup, and SMS backup).

Is there any way i could get a copy of the cabs for all these? I've redownloaded the ROM to try and extract em but TBH i wouldn't know where to start.

BTW, the above list is from your feature list on the first page of this thread.

Thanks.

EDIT: Found the keyboard skins, wm5newmenu and softkeyapp on buzzdev.net (download section), found the contacts backup app here ('http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=36132&d=1175113273') and i'm still looking for the rest.

Hey C_Shekhar

I installed your ROM in my QTek2020. It is working fine. I checked the Contacts app features. I didn't find "find online" option. It is part of over-the-air lookup of global address list (GAL) information. Microsoft includes it in AKU2 release. The AKU2 contains the Messaging Security and Feature Pack (MSFP) and GAL lookup features.

Can you include it in your WM5 ROM image?

hi C_Shekhar,

After upgrading to 3.50c.40CS, i installed my Holux M-1000 bluetooth GPS receiver and ran the map program. Only managed to detect the GPS receiver once and while it was working the O2 xda 2 restarted by itself.

I tried flashing to 3.50b.40CS and it also gave the same problem.

Any ideas what could be causing the problem? Could it be the BT software on the ROM? I was using the same GPS receiver previously on W2003SE without any issues.

thanks..

Tried 7.0b.40CS as well i faced the same problem. I then tried 3.5c.40CS and also experience the same problem. The xda 2 reboots when bluetooth is connected to the GPS receiver and most times the map program not able to find GPS receiver. Could it be the bluetooth stack? I installed the map program and maps on the SD card where EXT Rom is also present. Can this be a problem?

use ftouchflo. It is simulations of the touch of HTC new devices. And very good. I think this ROM must be having this in it. If not you can upgrade to My WM6.1 ROM.
Look for ftouchflo icon in your programs. And simply click it. For all future auto start copy the shortcut to startup
