First impression: Great!

Some problems though:

1. Wireless manager: When putting in to Flightmode the function to reactivate phone doesn't work.
2. Tomtom 6.0 when installing it turns off the backlight and each time you restart Tomtom it turns the backlight of again but only when running TT6 after shutting down application the backlight turns on again.

But all in all great thanx

Ahum :-( Forums are there to first look for info!!! My fault Tomtom 6.0 issue resolved sorry!

On most XDA's you cannot use the flightmode. This is a known problem U need a third party program.

Dear friend, If you tried to flash it with Shekhar's rom, you haven't flashed your device the right way. May be you did not hard reset the correct way after flashing. Do it exactly according to the intructions.
It must show the correct version number!

Thanks c_shekhar for this rom, I have one problem, I can't access the internet with GPRS or WiFi because there is no option to select when it ask to choose which to connect to WORK or INTERNET on network card setting it's showing the selecting box blank with no options, and therefore internet explorer can't access the internet.
my WiFi is connecting to my access point.
I hope there's a way to get those setting back.

Flashed this Rom Yesterday
everything smooth. and damn fast.
i have an Imate Pocket PC too, i had no problems with the SD card not being recognized.
One gripe though, the programs you have pushd in dont seem to work. I am having problems with running Call2Contact, the Dictionary, FlightMode and the Rubix Cube Game. Permissions errors
is asking me to reinstall the apps.
why is this so?
would it be possible for you to release .cabs of these shiny new apps.

i especially liked the speed dial one on the Today screen. damn neat.

I've flashed my device to this from WM2003SE as well, but the Storage size is still 14.63 and not 30. I'm thinking I might have to use Hima_DOC_tool to do this, so I downloaded it, and ran it, then reset the device. To no avail, unfortunately. Am I missing something?

Thanks for the ROM, c_shekhar! GREAT JOB!

This Rom is very nice, however :
1- Why we do not see Roms with no ramdisk & always we see Roms with ramdisk 32, 64, ...etc.?
2- Why we do not have vanillas Rom ( Rom with no software)?
3- Would u pls upload the Sms backup cab file?

I tried to use the Rom kitchen but it is very difficult for me

No-RAMDisk is something which I somehow dont recommend. There are many like me. Perhaps thats why there are no ROMs without RAMDisk available. Actually if you dont want RAMDisk then the spared memory gets merged with program memory. And having more than 30-40MB of program memory does not add to any advantage. Rather it, in my opinion is a wastage of precious resources. Instead it can be put to some use if converted into RAMDisk. I hope I am able to explain the reasons well..good luck..

C_Shekhar.... Firstly thankyou. Without guys like you we would still be battling with the buggy old original OS the Vendors choose to push out.
I noticed someone else has had the same question I am about to ask which I think you did not get to answer. I have reflashed my O2II several times and still get the storage space of only 14.57Meg and a Program space of 61.26Meg. I have a big problem with the Storage size because its very little space to hold data and some applications which dump some of their files in the Windows directory. Any ideas you can throw at me to fix this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Thankyou.

Install hima_DOC_Tool 1.0 on your device. This shall merge the ExtROM into the storage space and make it 30MB. Mind that after that you shall loose the ExtROM from your device...enjoy.....

I am currently testing your program and noticed that the O2 phone smart dial is working with this RAM. although there seems to be a conflict with the built-it dialer. Regards and Thanks again for making our Himalaya's great!:)

It is a good news dear. I would like to give it a try myself. Would you upload the O2 smartdialler here..

Yes you are right. I have tested that it still gives problem with C2C only. Rest of the programs requiring NETCF work properly. May be another 3.5 compatibility prob.. Still let me figure it out...

If you get rar file you should extract that file become exe or msi using wirar or another application. And install that file from your pc.

Don't bother with rar's or whatever unless you really cannot download the official version, especially since nowadays there are reports of people infecting archives on the ftp site here, so you should be careful what you download and run. The official version of the .Net Compact FrameWork (aka. netcf) is:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9655156b-356b-4a2c-857c-e62f50ae9a55&DisplayLang=en

Also apply the patch if possible:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0c1b0a88-59e2-4eba-a70e-4cd851c5fcc4&DisplayLang=en

I know these files are huge and contain more then you need, but they are easy to install and you are guaranteed to download the correct software.

Hey

Thanx for the reply, will be applying this update next week once i've researched it properly! my first pocketpc!mmm!lol.

C_Shekar, i noticed on the front page you stated that smart dial does not work as incompatible with aku3.5, has anybody managed to fix the incompatibility? i use smartdial a LOT (only wish that this would become a STANDARD thing on all phones!)

any chance of any other screenshots? also, how do people find the screen quality? i use a Qtek 8310 right now,and the screen on that is superd, but compared to my older SP3i, the sp3i is rubbish! will it be a case of this too?!

thank you!

(just wondering, how long do you predict to be developing these roms for? the next version of WM is due soon, whats the likelihood that will be 'adapted' to run on a himalaya?)

i'm a newbie on ROM flashing (but not on Himalaya... :) ), i wanted to upgrade my XDA 2 (into WM2005), whose software was untouched (never been upgraded...). Is this possible or safe?

My Device info (from the factory):

ROM Version: 1.60.00WWE
Radio Version:1.08.00
Protocol Version: 1337.18
Extended ROM: 1.60.44

Very eager to try this tonight... TIA:)

Just try and follow the instruction carefully. If you do the steps as written in the isntruction files, I think you will succed to upgrade it.

But I can not give you guarantie absolutely, all depend on your moves, if no mistakes, it will okay.... so read please the instruction and then imagine what should you do... :)

Good luck

1. First of all thanks a lot xmaxx for providing the users an alternative location for download. FTP of this forum has got a bit slow lately may be because of filemanagement going on (as moderator has informed).
2. Scenarios shall not work because it has not been provided. (Read the upgrade note carefully). It is anyway not needed at all because a much better profiler is already provided on the today screen.
3. There is a problem of incompatibility with C2C which is to be removed in the next release. cheers..

In AKU ROMs ExtROM ceizes to exist. It can be merged with the storage memory for making it from 15MB to 30MB. Merging becomes necesary becouse you fall shaort of space for installing many programs. Run Hima_DOC_Toolv1.0 for this...

I belive this is an issue with TomTom and Windows Mobile 05.

There is a function call about the baklight that is diferent that TomTom have not changed. you can edit the tomtom.exe file in a hex editor to fix the issue...

I will try and get my copy of TomTom.exe and upload it on the site, if you replace your file with this one it should also fix the issue you are having :-)

If you are having issues with TomTom 6.010 and the Backlight not working overwrite with the following file and it should fix the issue you are having...

Of course always backup your original before overwriting in case of any issues (although I've never had any)

Mr Shekar
no doubt ROM all fine and stuff
a few gripes though

1. Battery Meter shows 38% but phone knocks off. after recharge, everything ok.

2. when In Call, i dont get the name of the party, just Boxes in the dialer. maybe a throw back to the Chinese translated ROM that you have used in this one. It is a bit annoying to get these boxes in many other programs as well

3. Scenarios and Call2Contact useless ( which you said would be removed in the next upgrade)

4. File explorer is silly, can you update it to Resco's Explorer? i can send you the setup if you want.

5. the Speed Dial is just Fantastic. i love this app, any possibility of getting the .cab of it. i have assigned it to a button and can dial numbers with just one hand free.

6. WM5Storage takes a hug amount of time to be recognized by Windows. the older version used to get picked up instantly.

7. BackUpSMS and BackupContacts, perform a backup, but if you try to restore, it says No Backup Exists.

8. NoiseProfile is also silly. Cant we have something like WM5Phone Profiles which allows ou not only to set the level of sound meters but also the ringtones, and message alert tones

I hope we can look forward to another release soon.
BTW, i did gripe, but in no way think that i dont appreciate the work that you do in these releases. i wish i had a clue how to make them. i would help out.
Thanks for all the hard work

Hi c_shekhar

Many thanks for your efforts, I have not yet updated to your ROM and am still currently using Buzz (2.01a.64WWE) ROM but find the ROM to be a little slow at times and suspect a memory leak of some kind.

I am planning on upgrading to your version of the ROM once it becomes a little more stable and initial bugs ironed out. (I can't afford to have an unstable phone and have features not working at times as I use my phone every day at work).

Please could you give us a general update of what issues you are currently working and on the status of the issues.

Is there any thing general users can help with? (research, program searching..etc..etc), it might be a good idea to have a list of remaining issues , ROM wish list..etc..etc for all users to see and contribute to?

Many thanks for your efforts and it sounds like you've done a good job so far :-) looking forward to giving the new ROM a try

Let me try to write answers question by question....>

Mr Shekar
no doubt ROM all fine and stuff
a few gripes though

1. Battery Meter shows 38% but phone knocks off. after recharge, everything ok.
Though most of the other forums talk about phone going off after 32% battery level but Incidently I have not faced this prob. on my phone. It has safely gone upto 22%. There are many users reporting my way. It is a matter of further analysis.

2. when In Call, i dont get the name of the party, just Boxes in the dialer. maybe a throw back to the Chinese translated ROM that you have used in this one. It is a bit annoying to get these boxes in many other programs as well
Again it is not happening on my phone. I am attaching the screenshot. It is during the incoming call.

3. Scenarios and Call2Contact useless ( which you said would be removed in the next upgrade)
Scenario is not provided as you would read in the introductory post. Only zoom SMS was reintrodused on request of one of user like you. C2C is also been explained on this thread already that it has compatibility issue with AKU3.5. I have kept it in my todo list for removal..

4. File explorer is silly, can you update it to Resco's Explorer? i can send you the setup if you want.
Unfortunately this is the only extensively used explorer. I cannot release resco explorer because it is a lisenced S/W. I have added resco inthe ROM I am using on my device. But, your comments abt the standard file explorer are absolutely right.

5. the Speed Dial is just Fantastic. i love this app, any possibility of getting the .cab of it. i have assigned it to a button and can dial numbers with just one hand free.
It is already there in the ROM with all the functions. And I too love it..

6. WM5Storage takes a hug amount of time to be recognized by Windows. the older version used to get picked up instantly.
I incidently dont use it at all so no idea. Shall give it a try in one of these days..

7. BackUpSMS and BackupContacts, perform a backup, but if you try to restore, it says No Backup Exists.
I differ from you on this issue with excuse. I am heavily dependent on these two S/Ws because I keep flashing modifications evry second day and the device is H-resetted every second day. Dotfred has really given a fantastic tool to us. The save/restore thecall log function of the contactsbackup is simply fantastic.

8. NoiseProfile is also silly. Cant we have something like WM5Phone Profiles which allows ou not only to set the level of sound meters but also the ringtones, and message alert tones

I think you are talking abt sound profile. I think it has control of sound as well as the rintone type.. check it a bit more.

I hope we can look forward to another release soon.
BTW, i did gripe, but in no way think that i dont appreciate the work that you do in these releases. i wish i had a clue how to make them. i would help out.
Thanks for all the hard work

M

I think I have covered most of your issues.. Thanks for such a detailed reporting and enjoy testing. I am thinking to release another upgrade of this soon..

I just want to share my experience with this rom. I don't have any above problem. Both of points above worked well in my PDA.

And I think for no 1, you have problem with the battery. This happened with many cell phone, and called battery drop. To solve this problem you have to change the battery with a new one. :)

I was wondering if there was any method do 'password' the sms inbox?

is this possible with your rom? or could somebody point me in the direction of some software that does do this please.

thank you.

Have a look on the details as well as the screenshots on the first post of this thread. The program memory should be 61MB. I think your storage memory might be 16MB. and your ExtROM still exists. Pl confirm..

I reflashed and its still the same.

Curiously if you look at screenshot 4 of my previous post, which is the
Hardware tab of the Device Information applet you will notice that the
RAM size: is 64MB. hmmmm This is an O2 XDA II (not a mini) and I thought
they all had 128MB RAM !!

So I guess either I got a very odd XDA, or some wierd hardware fault, or
something else.

Any suggestions?

1. Scenarios is not there at all even now. So nothing is to be done.

2. Dictionary editor is a good tool if you really want to add the your choicest word suggestion to the database. Needs re-thinking before removing...

3. Display swith is part of psShutxp to facilitate binding to a button or icon.

4. remove Download agent --yes

5. Fast cleanup also??

6. I could have added mms3.5.1.5 but when tested it I didnt like it. It has one very major drawback which causes big inconvinience besides having advantage to add smileys to MMS. Plus it is bulkier by about 1 MB. Thats why you would have noticed that it is not much sought after..Even if you people insist i shall add..

Is Any one able to send or receive mms?

Yes.

First ensure your network supplier has enabled GPRS/MMS on your SIM
Just because SMS works doesn't mean MMS has been enabled.

Just phone your mobile phone co and ask them to enable. They usually send you an enabling txt.

Then you need to set up the MMS connection on WM5.

This is what I do for Orange in the UK, which works for me:

Setting up the data account

Tap on Start and then Settings.
Tap on the Connections tab.
Tap on the Connections icon.
Tap on the Advanced tab.
Tap on Select Networks.
Tap on New…
In the Enter a name for these settings: field, enter Orange MMS
Tap on the Modem tab.
Tap on New.
In the Enter a name for the connection: field, enter Orange MMS
Tap on the Select a modem: drop down list and select Cellular Line (GPRS).
Tap on Next.
In the Access point name: field, enter orangemms and tap on Next.
In the Username: field, enter Orange
In the Password field, enter Multimedia
Tap on Finish.
Tap on ok three times.
Tap on x to close the settings.
Setting up the MMS profile

Tap on Start and then Messaging.
Tap on Accounts and select MMS.
Tap on Menu and select MMS Configuration...
Tap on the Servers tab.
Tap on New.
In the Server name: field, enter Orange MMS
In the Gateway: field, enter 192.168.224.010
In the Port number: field, enter 8080 or Permanent, non-secure
In the Server address: field, enter http://mms.orange.co.uk/
Tap on Orange MMS from the drop down list.
Tap on WAP 2.0 from the WAP version: drop down list.
Tap on OK.
Tap on Orange MMS and tapSet as Default.
Tap on ok.
Tap on x to close the settings.
The handset is now configured for Multimedia Messages.

Obviously your settings will differ for different networks.

Good Luck

I would also say to include, netCF 2.0 as it is needed for many apps in this ROM from what I've read.

I would also suggest to remove apps that are not popular to save space for users that don't necessarily want them, if any thing perhaps start a new thread with CAB Files downloads for you ROM to keep it need and any one can download any removed software from there if they still want it?

I have not installed the ROM as yet as mentioned before but am really looking forward to it:

- I use Lexisgoo English Dictionary so I'm assuming the one you include is the same type of thing so I also will not need this app but depends on others :-)

Basically I would suggest posting a ROM that works 100% after updating (eg Include NetCF 2) but still trying to keep the ROM as lean as possible.

Many thanks for your efforts and look forward to the final release after all your hard work

NetCF is OK.
Dictionary is too much to be expected because non of the dictionaries is less than 5-6 MB. So not possinble.
You can post your cabs on this thread itself. Then we can make a library and place them on the ftp later..

1- I have icon on the bottom task bar, when I click on it I get an error message: The file scenarios cannot be opened....etc. Please clarify?

2- Before I upgrade to WM5 I used WordBook 3 for PocketPC. I guess most people have different choice and use dic to know rather than add. Unless of course you mean that whatever you add comes up auto when say writing sms .. do I understand correctly. If this is the case, sue I 100% agree with you.

3 & 5- I guess many would be adding other utilities such as SKtools and Tweaks2k2NET that has replacement for above and more. ... same may be said regarding backup ... I assume most would use something like sprit? However, psShutxp is very small so keeping it would be fine.

4- good
6- Would you or any one suggest an alternative for MMS?
7- Attached the cab file for BTaudio and Total_Commander .. it is great.
8- I agree with 'alwi' ... RealPlayer is OK.
9- I do not know about AgileMessenger. Can anyone gives us advise of advantage/disavantage vs MSN?

Question1: Is there is a way to add/remove the icon on the bottom task bar (other than those by 'Tray_Launch')? Currently I have by default bat, bt, scenarios, mem, and psShutxp (i just wish we can change its skin!)

So to Sum it up..
1. NETCF...Yes
2. Agile messenger...No (as that can be installed on SD card and not many are intrested)
3. Dictionary editor...Yes (As it adds words for autosuggest)
4. FlightMode...yes (By majority)
5. C2C...No (As it has problems with V3.5)
6. Games...No (removed)
7. MSN...Yes
8. Total commander.....I am a bit confused. Though it is a good S/W but many dont like to use it. Instead they use resco explorer. So for such people there shall be 3 explorers on the device (1-default explorer, 2- Total Comm, 3-Resco) Will that be acceptable?? Or else I make Total commander a part of ExtROM which can be tailored by individual depending upon his reqmt? I need suggestons for this.
9. Scenarios ...No
10. Today theme...changed (Preferably crossbow)
11. Zoom SMS...Yes
Any thing left out????

Make a COMPLETELY stripped down ROM, with absolutely NOTHING extra on it, and then produce some sort of a CAB file which can allow you to install say a 'software' package which installs the extra stuff on later? i think some people would actually prefer this as it means you would (in theory, not sure how it works) end up with slightly more storage space to install your own applications without having the rom 'cluttered' up with extra things?

just a suggestion!

total commander is great, although i think having 3 file explorers is a little much! sticking with resco would be better methinks

the idea to make a 'library' of HimaWM5 'addons' would be waaaay better than 'bloating' up the rom with extra software some of us may not even use at all!

Good Luck

First I'm not using this Rom, I'm using TofClock one done from the same source Helmi_kitchen (buzz.net) . The main reason that it has basic programs but it seems that he ignored mms.
He posts Acrosoftmms 3.5 cab to be installed and it dosen't work.
I found programe name mmscomposer. I instaled succssesfuly, and the mms massage apear inside the massages. I mean (start-massages-new - mms or sms)
However, I phoned my services supplier and step by step we done every thing.

The Web to open internet was Ok
WAp was not ok
mms failed to send/receive.
I will pay them a visit as they suggest.

If you don't have probleme with mms by using C_shakhar ROM.
I think I will wait till the next ver. and using it.
It seems to be a very nice one.

Thanks again

No 8, I think we should chose maximum 2 to save place in ROM. I don't mind you will chose which one. In my opinion, Both of them have almost the same function but different user interface. Anyone know what are the advantage from one and the other ?

Just for for vote if it is necessay,
Resco is used commonly in my environment. :) but anything our choice. I agree....

One that I know, this will be the best rom for us...:)

c_shekhar thank you again, Our wish to get great ROM can happen because of you. Good work mate. !!! I can not be patient to try for the next version.

I Agree, a basic functional ROM is best and personalize it your self later :-)

I use Total Commander BUT don't think it should be included as many might not like it... I would stick to the basic explorer and people can add which ever file manager they like after?

Still agree with the rest of the list though... Sounding good to me!

Yes - NETCF
Yes - Dictionary Editor - (not 100% sure but if it's very small why not)
Yes - FlightMode
Yes - MSN - (although I don't use it, I guess others would)
Yes - Default Explorer
Yes - Today Theme - (default is fine or any other as long as it looks clean)
Yes - Zoom SMS - (not 100% sure what this is yet but sounds small)

No - C2C
No - Games - (would like the cab to install later)
No - Total commander
No - Agle messenger
No - Resco explorer
No - Scenarios

Hi C_shkhar
What do u mean by,

You are right mate :) I also want to know more concerning this one. Is it means possible for us to merge extROM in device and the storage so we will get more space ?

The_hesham
15th January 2007, 08:26 AM
I'm really confused,
I understand that I had to install this Rom and to get more space in storage I had to make Extended Rom Unhid, Unlock.....etc
Now this Rom has 30 MB storage is this mean that after merging the Extended Rom it will be more?
Is this mean that the mobile will have a problem from any kind if i moved the storage card for any reason, due to the fact that Extended Rom is there?
Or the Storage will have another name

Or What!!

I really want to understand this issues before start using this Rom.

Are you sure your storage 30 MB ? not in my case. My storage still 14.54MB, RAMdisk 39.96 MB and Program 61.26 MB.

How could your storage 30 MB ? or is it means your extROM has been merged ?

No mate I said I did not use this Rom yet
I was going to use it but I was wandering about it is specification written in the first post.
If u install it and u have 14.54 MB storage, this normal for WM5. But after that u have to merge the Extended ROm to get 30.5 MB storage.
If u used it can u tell me about the mms is it working normal because I'm using TofClock AKU3.5 and i have a problem in addition to another bugs.

@the_hesham
@selangkahlagi
@carlosA

Let me try to add some more facts which are a bit historic.
1. Since the time the WM5 has been tried on Himalaya the storage memory was only 15MB initially. this 15 MB wash was falling really short for comfortably installing and running programs. So the ExtROM, which was resident in flash memory of the device, was merged into it by using hima_DOC_Tool v1.0. After running the utility the progrm memory increased to 31MB and made every body comfortable. So all those who have been using WM5 on himalaya are normally not having ExtROM which they used to have earlier.

2. But, the craving for having something similar was always there. Which has become possible now. Only change is (I feel it as rather advantageous) that the ExtROM progs shall now be residing on SD card called \Storage Crad. It is very advantageous because now the ExtROM is always visible and the hassels of unlocking/unhiding shall not be there. And you can freely add & remove the S/W cabs in it by correspondingly modifying the config.txt available in the \Storage Card\ExtROM.

3. Since the use of ExtROM is only at the time of Hard resetting the device there shall be no problem even if you remove the SD Card from your device after the hard Reset. More over if somehow you dont want to install the progs in the ExtROM you can freely remove the SD card and hard reset. There shall be no problem for the device to bootup.

4. For installing the progs in the ExtROM on to the RAMDisk instead of main memory, you need to edit the cab files. Be careful because it is a sensitive task and must be done carefully. Normally the ExtROM is used for accomadating only those progs which are to be installed in the main memory of the device. however it is only a convetion and not a restriction.

This is the final ROM of ver AKU 3.5 from me. And has been testes for internet/GPRS/MMS etc very well. You need to feed the configuration manually or through a cab corresponding to your service provider...

....regards and cheers...

You need a CAB file editor. A program that compile the installation files into one pocket pc CAB file and set the installation routine.

Since you have never done it, I suggest you start here:
http://www.trajectorylabs.com/pocket_pc_cab_file.html

you can use CAB editor, such as OCP WinCE CAB Manager (http://www.ocpsoftware.com/products.php?nm=cecabmgr)

The dictionary editor is not a dictionary at all. If you are using any dictionary continue. This dictionary editor helps to add new words into the database of the windows default autosuggestion database. There are many words which are normally not there in the autosuggestion database of the windows and you would like to add the words of your choice into it. Use this tool it is great...

Many thanks for the quick reply, I might get my phone connected and install the new ROM :-)

Many thanks for all your efforts, it sounds like it's going to be a great ROM...

1. Just a silly question, if you do release a new build of this ROM, you do loose all your installed programs..etc..etc when upgrading again is that correct?
From memory you have to clear the registry and format your storage so all will be gone, correct me if I'm wrong...

2. Also do you need to install the ExtROM or can you leave it out? (please could you explain a little more what the files in this folder are for).

3. Also my understanding is that I can also put the "cs.WLAN_Fix.cab" file into the ExtROM folder if I want to automaticly install this file (and if I chose to use the ExtROM, is this correct?)

Yes. It is to be hard-resetted

Every thing except RAMDisk shall be gone

You remove the SD card at the time of hard resetting then the ExtROM shall be ignored. Simple..
3. Also my understanding is that I can also put the "cs.WLAN_Fix.cab" file into the ExtROM folder if I want to automaticly install this file (and if I chose to use the ExtROM, is this correct?)
Yes you can

Hey c_shekar , I am new to this forum I recently upgraded my rom or lets say I deleted my old rom because of a lot of bugs and problems screen freezingi up anyways I have a error on start up I install your software 3 days ago.

Here is what it says
The file 'sddaemon' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certificate , or one of its components cannot be found. You might need to reinstall or restore this file.

How can I remove all these icons from my computers desktop so I wont have to scroll down to get to my phone or so many icons on my desktop because it slows down the performance of my cell phone. ( I dont want the icons to show on my cellphones desktop I want them to be hidden or something or only show when i turn them on )

Can't help to not to salute you! Five Thumbs?

I've been passive members as my search for The Best Himalaya ROM ever cooked, but this 3.50b.40CS can't help me to write this post for your Great Work!

Since I've dare to post, what does EDGE or EVDO (_connect_PPC/_sync_PPC) do? Is it exactly the same as file gprs, gprs_connect and gprs_sync_PPC? Is it than possible to use those EDGE or EVDO services? or even better: shall will be there UMTS or HSDPA :D

Tx for cooking

I apologize for my bad English,
but again: can't help to not salute to Chandra Shekhar!

Great ROM CS !!!

Love the extROM install from SD

Just a few things:

1.Backup SMS just gives me the window as per attached screenshot

2.The Icons in the programs screen seem to refresh every few seconds. The older ROMS did this too, so nothing new, just wondered why

3.Any chance of a tiny tutorial on adding our cabs to the extROM. I added WM5torage and although it does install it also hangs the system (I think there is a reboot (yes/no) window that gets hidden underneath.

Thanks

1. The backup SMS should show up as attached screnshots.
2. Dont understand what are you trying to convey.
3. As I have written in my post on ExtROM, that as per conventions, only those cabs are to be added in ExtROM which need to be installed on the main memory and also dont have any screen/window popping up. Or else you have the ability to tailor the cabs to suit this principle.

ANy way thanks for liking this ROM...

PaY87: I find the same, even though all draining processes like bluetooth and infrared are off. I think it might have something to do with the O2 programs and the activesync issue where activesync doesn't switch off when the device is uncradled.

i dont know if its active sync, because this was running in background before in previous version too without battery draining..
is it possible it has something to do with the tray icons on the bottom of today screen? an other strange point is that i am not able to see my backup battery anymore in the power menu!
there is just the normal battery status!

Hi c_shekhar

I've asked a chinese friend to translate the words posted but they don't seem to know what they mean, they said if they can see the Chinese characters that would be easier...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Say the Chinese character for "small" is a few squiggly bits. The "pin yin" for that would be "xiao". I don't think there are exact english words for the following :( And no. 1 and 4 seem to me as having no difference. I don't know what no. 2, 3 and 5 are. No. 3 might mean "phonic"

1. Pin Yin
2. JianPin
3. ZhuYin
4. HanYu PinYin
5. TongYong PinYin
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry could not help much, but if you can get a screen shot of the Chinese characters I might be able to get a better answer.

Cheers
Fudge.

Hi c_shekhar

I will see what I can find and ask some more friends that are Chinese...

Would you happen to have more words before and after (sentence structure), pictures...etc..etc.. any thine else other then just the words?

I'm thinking if it's in a sentence it might be easier for them to understand?

Perhaps you could let me know what words you have translated so they can get a feel of what type of words it will be similar to?

Cheers

Hi C_Shekhar,

PinYin is a method of phonetics used to represent Chinese words with English Alphabet. By the looks of the screen shots, the options are simply asking which phonetic method the user wishes to use. For instance the method to say the "ch" sound in church might have different representations in PinYin depending on method, such as a "t" or a "x".

Therefore there is no possible translation for these words, as they are simply input/phonetic methods which are dialect/region based.

A full explanation can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PinYin

Hi Pneuma/C_Shekhar

I believe Pneuma is correct, I send my friend a copy of the screenshots and they also came back with the same kind of answer...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
From the looks of the screenies, it looks like they are mainly for searching. So I suppose that if the person's name isn't written in Chinese, then those functions are not required. As English doesn't use pin yin. In the 2nd screen shot, the options seem to be all the same (all pin yin). Just different versions of it. Are you having troubles searching for names of people? If not, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Not sure if I explained myself well! But see how you go.

Fudge :-)

Hey

Is there any news on releasing a completely stripped down ROM update?

or, better still, how would someone go about stripping down a rom completely to just include the STANDARD phone software with absolutely nothing extra attached?

also, c_shekar, the skin that you use, in the 'red' screenshots, it looks like you've got all of these little 'tabs' on the top most band where the signal meter and clock are, how did you get these?

thanx

hey

last i checked, O2 didnt release a WM5 rom update for the himalaya, i've already tried c_shekars, and just for the sake of it, yesterday i flashed the one HELMI has put up, and i prefer that rom as its a lot more stripped down and is noticeably faster.

also, whats the max people have overclocked their devices to?

ROM: 3.50a.40CS
dated: 17.12.2006
OS 5.1.195 (Build 15698.3.5.0)

Hello c_shekhar... as written in my post on Buzzdev (http://buzzdev.net/index.php?option=com_phorum&Itemid=125&phorum_query=read,26,29006),
I was looking for a working Terminal Services Client (Remote Desktop) on your ROM (cause I didn't found it from when I started using WM5). The one downloaded from Microsoft website says "MSTSC.exe is not a valid Pocket PC application" and doesn't start. I have found the rar attached, a mod of the original application by MS. It works! Unrar, copy in Windows folder all files, and link in Start Menu, and import .reg.
I think you can add this useful tool to your next edition...

Thank you,
Bye :)
